For those that hyperfocus on internet reading, research, gaming, etc. here are a couple of cool extensions to add to your browser:

Leech Block for Firefox : addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir
efox/addon
/leechblock/?src=search

and

Nanny for Chrome: chrome.google.com/webstore/d
etail/cljc
gchbnolheggdgaeclffeagnnmhno
?utm_s
ource=chrome-ntp-icon

Both of these extensions allow you to set certain websites as blocked during times (i.e. 7PM-10PM, 5AM-9AM etc.) that you set to block them or limits the amount of time as a whole per day that site will be available to you (i.e. 5 hrs that day) or both . Examples of sites you might want to block are Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, game sites, news readers, blog sites, etc. but can be whatever else you choose, too That way you don't have to remember those times after you set it. It will automatically block that site or those sites when the time arrives. emoticon

Speaking of hyperfocus. At my last job I had an employee who often hyperfocused for hours on end. Sometimes I'd come in and first thing in the morning notice him in the lab slumped over his terminal. I'd ask him, "Bill did you work all night?" He'd look at his watch then say, yeah; guess so and turn his attention back to the monitor. Then I'd say, "Bill, don't you have class now?" and he'd panic and say "oh yeah" as he grabed his books and ran out of the lab. I hyperfocus but not like him!

Hey SparkL3--love the site! Especially since I can type in a tag. A lot of times I set a timer and forget why I set it Lol (what I was going to do next, other than sit in front of my pc?). Mine is set to laughter :) Makes it positive transition for me rather than the annoying thing I want to turn off Lol

Personally, I like http://e.ggtimer.com/ better. You can choose seconds, minutes or hours and just click "Go". It even has special timers such as "Pomodora" (25/5), "Brushteeth" and more.

To keep yourself from spending too much time on Facebook, Twitter, PinInteres and/or other "Time Leeches", use the Mozilla Firefox browser and a nifty Add-On called "LeechBlock"! It can be set to any amount of time (20 minutes), period of time (09:00-12:00), or even full days (Mon, Wed, Fri) and will totally block those time wasters, not just beep at you!!

Awesome! I am sucked in by the hours but I never attributed this to my ADHD. My dad and my brothers are just like me when it comes to reading and research. I just figured it was our family thing! I LOVE this team. I feel so normal - in an ADHD sort of a way! emoticon

LAURANCE,

I think it would be fantastic if there were an app for this, but I can't think of any way to do that. I just open a new tab on my computer for it so that the timer is running while I'm surfing the 'net. emoticon

Oh boy, I went to that website and got to the timer. I finally settled on the clarinet sound. It's great, but I see I have to go to their website to use it. Is there a way to download this app onto the computer?

I, too, can get horribly stuck on the computer. I'm going to go and have a look at that timer. Thank you!

I am the same way. A new goal for me is to spend less time on the computer and more time with my family. I don't think the timer would work for me. I would just ignore it or stop using it. lol I hope it works for you though emoticon

My family cannot believe how I can stay glued to the computer. I want to pull away from it but seems I get sucked back into the internet.

This looks like a good tool.

SPARKL3 , this is hilarious...and strangely, incredibly useful for people like you and me!
I am the same way. I can feel the lifeforce being sucked out of my eyeballs, as I stay glued to the screen for literally HOURS and HOURS. I often work from home, so that can be just a recipe for strain.

Do you just cut and paste the link to your favorite's bar, or is something downloadable?

Another trick that I have used is my iron-man watch timer. They are about $30 and, of course, we use them primariy for tracking exercise and laps, etc. However, I've found it to be a WONDERFUL tool for keeping myself on task during the day.

In the morning, when I'm usually distracted with just trying to get out the door, I set it for 15 minute intervals. It will beep, and I'll think...shoot! I should stop picking fuzz off of my couch and get to work! It's like a bullwhip.

During the day, in front of the computer, I set it for 30 minute intervals. When it beeps, I get up and do something active. Helps to keep me from turning into a total waffle.

Anyway, TMI, I'm sure. Thanks for the link! Great solution and I loved the sound effects. I have it running on my computer right now.
:o)

I've found that I can spend hour after hour on the computer. I need to cut that back to a reasonable time. So the other day I discovered a countdown timer for your computer. Open up a new tab on your computer, and go to www.timeme.com/count-down-timer.htm . You can have it count down or count up. I have mine set for it to count down 30 minutes. My start time is 00:30:00 and my stop time is 00:00:00. You can set preferences, like what sort of alarm you want it to give when your time is up. (The alarm I chose is someone clearing their throat. LOL) You can have it loop, so it can count the time, give an alarm, and then restart automatically. You can have it start your time as soon as you open up the page. You can choose color, font, etc. that the numbers appear on that page. I think it's great! I thought I'd share this with you all. Hope it helps!

...And now my countdown timer says I have 4 1/2 minutes to get off the computer. Four minutes and 25 seconds, 4:24, 4:23.....
