We need to remember all of this the next time we vote! They say one thing & do another when they get in. Government people need their pay frozen & the extras stopped. All of them should be on SS. And quit using tax dollars for personal trips. During this time of recession everyone has to do their part - including the leaders! Bring our jobs back home & send all illegals back to where they come from & quit giving them money! If someone comes here legally then help them. If you can find them (illega)to give them a handout you can find them to send back. And quit selling our land to other countrys! .We need to put the USA first & get back on our feet before we interfere with other countrys! We need to get back to where a few didn't get control of the rest of us. And the government needs to stay on budget. I really don't see why we can't do this. I don't understand what's behind it. Maybe if all the money a elected official gets had to be reported to the public ever quater, as well as which lobbiest they supported (& why) we could get something done! Just my thoughts!!

NC budget shortfall was 7 billion. The Gov has imposed so many cuts it's unreal! Up to 7,000 positions will be cut or not filled. As a school employee, our cuts will be one of the largest. Many programs are being cut and open positions will not be filled. We've taken pay cuts and had furlough days. Some of us have taken on extra duties to fill in positions that have been cut. There will be no increases or bonuses. Morale is terrible--what is that going to do to our children?

My husband is in a manufacturing industry who has also been cut. For 6 months now he has worked reduced hours--about 24 hrs per week. The plant has been cut from nearly 300 down to about 60 employees. We're thankful he still has employment and some weeks lately he has been getting more hours, because when they do have orders to get out the minimal staff has extreme overload to cover all the staff that has been cut. Some of their lines got sent to Mexico and 10 of their main product lines just got pulled and sent to China. He has been with the Industry for 25 yrs and his future is not looking too promising. Of course the morale there is very low as well.
Our Government has got to do something to stop industry from sending our jobs out of the states. Look at what happened to the textile industry many years ago. I agree many of us have had to come closer together and become very resourceful. Prayers for us all and for the Government to wake up and get their act together.

Those who spread sunshine to others cannot keep it from themselves!

Yes!!!! A like minded person!
I visit Friends of the Library & the thrifts for books! In fact my friend had called to tell me a couple boxes of the old paperbacks had come into our little thrift store yesterday. I love the old ones...the cover art on most is great! Not to mention the stories take one far away from day to day worries! And I don't have to pay that high price for gas to get there! ha ha

No way can a book be called clutter! Sometimes i can win a bid on a box of paper back books at the auction we go to. They'll be juat like new & I pick out what I want to keep & trade the rest in to the used book store I go to for 1/4 book credit. We pay 1/2 price for the books we want. Sometimes all I have to pay is the small handleing charge. Also another lady gives me a large plastic shopping bag (with handles) every once in a while, after she's finished with them. She doesn't keep any of the books after she's read them. Says she just doesn't have the space. Mary/MO/USA emoticon

The only really good thing I can see about the recession is that it's pulling people closer together. We're starting to help each other more & not expecting something in return. And people are really using the help to improve their lives. We'd slid into withdrawing from each other & living apart, I think. At least people are comming together & acting like a big family now. It sounds like what life was like back when my grandma was a girl. She said everyone was willing to help one another instead of trying to out do each other. When you were finished using something you passed it on to someone else who could use it & they did the same. I'm trying to downsize what I have & I've found that it makes me feel good to pass it on to someone else who can use it. I'm not big on yard sales (too much work) so I give it away instead. The end result is the same. It's gone. I'm always grateful someone is willing to take it off my hand. It's just I really wished I'd wised up a long time ago to what I needed against I just wanted. And don't get me started on those "parties" I was talked into by co-workers when I was working! You know, Tuppleware, candles, etc!

Gosh, you all make me feel good! I've been told I'm weird for thinking the way I do but I'm tired of being someone else's stepping stone! I used to just think it but then got to wondering why I couldn't express the way I felt when everyone else got to? i don't mind "helping" someone else but I resent being thought of as "not as good" as they are. OK, I'm off the soap box!!! Mary/Mo

I couldn't agree more that things are bad and something needs to be done. My job is to approve and issue government benefits (such as Food Stamps and Medicaid). There are so many people who need the help and can't get it... and so many people that get the help that maybe don't need it as badly. I am swamped at work, working constantly and no relief in sight. And as a reward for all the extra work the economy brings, no raise and no performance bonuses this year (which were never more than 100.00 for the year). Oh yeah and health insurance almost doubled in cost for what I will have to pay for my family. On top of that they are talking about layoffs to fix the budget, but not our workloads. Feels nice to be appreciated.

Have you noticed that the Fed & State government people still get a raise? I'm talking about the ones that we elect. Why can't they be cut back? Why do the top ex's get such bonus? Now they're trying to get around them by calling them something else. If the government really wants to get things going put a freeze on the top dogs salary, where it is now for a few years, & use that money to help straighten out things. The average person can't keep up everyone. Prisons need to cut back on things that they really don't really need (like gym stuff) & just get basic medical care. That's more than the homeless get. Also why are we giving money to the illegal people here? If we know who/where they are to give them a monthly check why can't we find them to send them back home? I really beleive we need to start taking care of our own befor we spend millions on people who are breaking the law. Just my thoughts! And I do beleive in helping those who are trying to help themselves buy not those who are out for all they can get without following the law or working.

Well, it's sure scarey these days. One wonders where we will be in a year if things keep going the way they are!
I'm barely scraping by....I can't afford gas. I've cut way back on groceries. But then there are people who lost their houses and I'm still paying on mine...guess I shouldn't complain!

Agreed again Lenore1971 I hear that people on SS will not get a cost of living raise for 2 years. Food, and gas prices are not going to stay the same price for 2 year's. It is so hard for everyone these day's. It really bites that people that are poor get good insrance in our state, and food stamp's we need a middle ground for those of us that are still working or have worked hard all of our lives. Good Luck all. Marie emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

My friend retired a year ago from Probation after 26 years of dealing with Juvenile Delinquits. Now she has heard she may be issued an IOU in place of her monthy retirement check. How will she survive on an IOU? emoticon

i heard on the news this morning that the state of california is giving out iou's to their vendors because the state has no money. how are these vendors going to pay their bills with these iou's? this recession is getting bad but a state like california can get away with giving out iou's. will the mortgage company, electric company, gas company, telephone company & the supermarket take an iou from me?
