The holidays are an exciting time filled with love, good food, family and friends. And we all know that it can be busy and sometimes stressful. Try stop for a minute and focus on what the season is really about.

sorry to hear you feel crummy.

I wanted to do exercise today. They are building a huge apartment complex across the street. I wanted to stay indoors.

Earlier, I went across the street to the store. The smell is bad. I'm thankful for my air cleaning machine.

Had 3 teeth pulled this morning. Novocaine is wearing off; struggling to keep my tongue off the stitches.

Meal replacement shake for lunch; soup planned for dinner. I think I'll make tuna salad tomorrow, that's relatively 'soft' (will leave out the celery, or dice it really small).

oh great news on tea, since that counts for some of my fluid needs. When I can I will have usually tea, water with lemon, berries , limes, and 1-4 cups of tea. Some teas make two cups each.

Anyhow a good way to get hydrated. I used to drink a good amount of fruit juice. Now I dilute it a bunch for favor.

I don't really have a fave part of the book - I'm just trying to change my life to do the right things, little by little. But I do like the first chapter where she explains how we need to do this all in His strength.

OnADiet - you are not the only one! I have just started a bullet journal and am going to track a list of goals each day to make sure I am doing what I need to do. After that, if I will spend as much time as I want on SP. It is social, but it is also encouraging me to set goals and stick to them - and because I am normal, I can take comfort from the fact that I am not the only one here who isn't perfect.

wow on number one. I mean big deal... I have to admit, there is a man at church... His wife really cares for herself. He has a list of health problems. I'm not saying it completely his fault.. but he has been and out of the hospital , but only wants to take pills and the like.. and not change the lifestyle things.

It actually breaks my heart, because it reminds me of my friend that passed between 56 and 57
because her diabetes was out of control and all those repercussions.

My favorite parts of the book?

1. "If you saw a run-down church, you'd wonder about the pastor, wouldn't you?"
2. "Carry water around wherever you go."

How about you?

I understand. I too am guilty of often spending multiple hours a day on SP, partly because I joined 51 teams, and felt the need to read at least 6 articles daily just to get all the available points. There were many days that I spent hours sitting and reading about exercise, but not getting up and doing any.

This year I'll focus on only 3-5 teams on a regular basis, and maybe drop in on others when I have truly ‘free’ time (like multi-tasking while watching a movie with my hubby on TV).

Please stay with us. Since you are most familiar with Joyce’s book, I’m sure we can all benefit from the insights that you can share in the discussion.

Thank you CHERRIET...

I have been with Sparkpeople since 2015.

Look Great Feel Great is my favorite book. I have read the book 6 times!

I just don't know what to do. I am poor and would make so much more money if I focused on work with the time I allot to Sparkpeople. I could always just exercise on my own.

Dear On a diet girl,
I think you are like a lot of us.

I do believe you said, you were here for one year ( unless that is just how long you have been to this Joyce Meyer group).

I have been here since 2011, so Ive seen a lot here and also can discuss my experiences.

When I first got here, I tried very hard to meet somebody from my city to exercise with. However, all my friends either do nothing at all with that or diet. The rest of them take a class or are in a club. I did have 3 different exercise partners at one time. They fizzled out.

Some of them were totally inconsistent and didn't call or show up. One gave me lectures about how I should help our son ( since hers was doing the same stuff. )Her method was to give him a computer and car , and bug him to do college. The problem was after he graduated, he dropped out. I didn't mind her openly giving me her opinions. It was when she yelled at me and gave me a lecture the entire walks.

I did have a lady who had walked with me every Saturday, but now I moved. So we have walked 4 times in the last 8 months.

I've had several Spark people work with me. That lasted for about 3 weeks to about 6 months.

However, there are some groups on here that really hold people accountable. There are a few that have given people " spark goodies" or have various challenges. I can't be in certain groups because I am not disabled . There are some running groups and such that follow through.

I do believe that our leader here has tried SO HARD to get people involved. She has set up all sorts of games, activities, book discussions, and topics. I think last year, we had 306 active people.

When people get involved it's fun. There is another group I'm in that the lady is older, but is a real cheerleader.

If you read the stories of those who have lost 50-250 lbs, you would completely change your mind. I know one in that group who went from being bedridden to getting her certification. What I learned from her was, that is she can do that, and she still has lot of health problems, anyone can.She was going to give my best friend 3 free sessions. However, my friend never got out of the hospital and passed. She was 2 months past her 57th birthday.

Watching her and my Mom go through what they did makes me want to help others.

I wasn't able to afford getting schooled, but I share with anyone who will listen to me.

So my vote is try this group, or another one here, or find something you will do.

I find my problem is either motivation to start, or boredom with the same stuff.

Please STAY! My situation may be similar to yours.
I started SP in mid-2014, motivated & conscientious, and lost 10 lbs. by the end of the year. Then, for over a year I was just 'playing' on SP, logging in, reading team posts & posting mainly in fun & games forums, but not logging my food or really trying to follow any 'plan'. SP had become more of a 'social' forum for me, more like one would do Facebook. By the end of 2016, I had gained back the 10 lbs. I had lost (+ 1/2 lb.) I re-started with new resolve in 2017, and lost that weight I had re-gained, but got complacent again, just 'socializing' but not consistently controlling what I ate, or exercising, or logging (If I knew I had over-eaten, I wouldn't log for that day -- so there wouldn't be a record of what I had done).

Can you say, DENIAL? Don't Even kNow I Am Lying (to myself)

2018 had its ups and downs, but I got started back on a downward trend during the past 2 months. (Only gained 1 lb. over the Holidays.)

Please stay with us. emoticon Let us know how we can support you. I can look for more mini-challenges we can participate in.
I'm hoping that our new Book Discussion - Joyce Meyer's "Look Great - Feel Great" will aid in renewing my mind to get/stay on track and take care of my body. For as Joyce says, "As the mind goes, the man follows."

emoticon emoticon emoticon

P.S. Wow! This is the most I have ever revealed about myself online in any post or blog. Maybe this is a good first step. Thank you, On_A_Diet, for being the trigger.

Hello to all of you superb Sparkpeople members. The new year is here.

I have been keeping myself occupied with work and side hustles. When I wake up it is dark outside. When I go to bed it is dark outside. When is the time change ever going to get here?

Instead of drinking my favorite diet lemon iced tea in my sports water bottle, I made a pitcher of unsweetened black iced tea. Tastes good for a change.

I may be quitting Sparkpeople. In 2015, I began Sparkpeople and weighed 170. It is now 2019 and I still weigh 170 pounds. I think I need to pursue different avenues. If you really want me to stay, tell me. If not, I really may have to go.

Have a good weekend.

I would guess it is harder to make one exercise when it's cold or snowing. We all feel sluggish at times.

CherrieT - I checked out your article - the exercises are all included in the 7 day program except one, so I will stick with that. It is handy that it is broken into 10 minute sessions.

Happy New Year everyone. I am enjoying the Look Great Feel Great conversations we are having. I am also aiming for at least 5 fregs at least 5 days a week, and at least 20 minutes exercise at least 5 days a week. Have goals for Bible reading, prayer, meditation, etc too. Today I started strength training - very important especially for older people. I started by reading sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?post=y
ou

and then I read two of the articles suggested in that -

and

ou

Lets everyone get a good start to 2019 by keeping (keeping no matter what) your commitments. I will work on a commitment of at least 10 minutes of exercise each day and 10 minutes of meditation and or prayer, Today I walked 2 miles with my wife. Didn;t time it but I;d say it took over an hour. I spent time meditating during the walk and also my wife and I had a good chat.

I'm Bob. I am retired and live in Virginia, USA (EDT) with my wife. I co-lead the teams https://teams.sparkpeople.com/Positi
ve_Sparkers
and https://teams.sparkpeople.com/Keep_I
t_Simple
.
My goal is to help all members live Positively and Simply and to reach their goals whatever they may be.
May others be blessed by your presence as I likewise try to be a blessing to others. Note this doesn't require any faith other than a belief in your own worthiness. Bob
