I would just tell them that you are having surgery.........If they ask just tell them it's for a personal reason and leave it at that.

Maybe just tell the kids you're going to the hospital to get better and leave it at that.
Tell the snoopy relatives it's personal and leave it at that.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone, The important people know about the journey I am about to take, but my kids will tell anyone and everyone. I want them to know I am in the hospital but not the specifics. Plus, what do I tell family that questions but isn't privy to real information?

Hey,

I'm afraid I can't help you with that. Just tell them you are having surgery to make you get healthy. I didn't tell people about my surgery because of the negativity 12 years ago. What you say or don't say is up to you.
I hope to see you in the general chat.
Take care!!

I told my five year old that I have tummy issues, and I was going to the hospital where doctors would fix my tummy. 6 months before my vsg, I had a c section, so my 5 year old was already familiar with the word surgery (i.e., "being cut open", "cutting mommy's tummy", etc) and hospital stuff.

I am having VSG, what do I say to my children about why I am in the hospital? They are young and I don't want them to know about the VSG surgery. I also don't want to lie about where I'm going. They are old enough to understand but not old enough to understand privacy (we don' tell people our business).
