I signed up for Karen Abends workshop www.karenabend.com/sketchbook-revival-2020
. The pre workshop is making a junk journal. I've never made one like this before and am happy with the results (Although I have a better idea for planning when I make another.)

Still plenty of time to sign up.

Easiest pet craft ever, Rocky tested & approved. I actually made it several years ago but I've moved several times & it has been stored. Got it out yesterday, washed it up and the cats have a "new" bed.

That sounds like a good decorative craft! I bet my aunt would really enjoy making one of those coffee filter hearts! I'm imagining it will end up looking like white roses.

I've been spending a lot of time on my genealogy lately so not much crafting done. I do have a new journal to make. I need to finish the cover and put it together. This is the journal I put all my keepsakes and cards in.

Hi, FFK! Glad to have you posting again!

Your idea to turn the tablecloth into a shower curtain is a great solution to the length problem you needed to solve. I remember making curtains and various items out of sheets, but I never thought of using a tablecloth. That's got to be upcycling without having to save something from the landfill in the first place!

It doesn't really count since I bought the tablecloth expressly for this purpose, but I am making a shower curtain. I cannot find a curtain I like that is also long enough since I raised the rod up to the ceiling, but I did find a nice shiny white crinkle tablecloth that can be trimmed & hemmed to be the perfect fit. emoticon

Good idea for using up that not-so-great fabric, F8CONE8! How many have you finished so far?

Those are two ambitious projects!

I didn't get the little booklets for my art friends finished before my get-together this past week. Hopefully I can get back to them soon and hand them out when we meet in January.

2 main projects going. I am finishing the top for my "forever" quilt. I call it that because I started it over 2 years ago. My other project is getting my tablecloth done. It will probably take months but I am having fun with it. It was given to me and had been started already. The lady passed and her kids didn't want it. I had to find thread to match and then teach myself how to embroider it.. I love it though and it will fit my table well.

Today I folded some postcards and cut different kinds of paper for pages to make some small, postcard booklets for my nine friends who attend the Drink & Draw sessions with me. I'm using some postcards that are white with small patterns to be colored, and some of my pages are recycled papers from old ledgers. Now I just need to sew the pages into the postcards sometime this weekend. I think they'll like them!

I don't blame you for finding distractions to take your mind off your tooth pain! Y-e-o-w!!!

Have fun with your Bigfoot projects. All I've been doing lately is paperwork for either my aunt or myself. The sale of her house was finally funded this afternoon, and I was able to get to the post office before it closed to postmark my own important papers for today's deadline.

So now I can breathe easier for a little while. Yay! And maybe get back to some daily artwork!

Thanks, Polly. How are you doing? I've missed seeing your posts since I've been back.

Today I went to my Drink & Draw group session, and we did two exercises. The first one was to put our journal on top of our head, and the leader told us things to draw. First she said that it would be a beach scene, so to figure out what would be the bottom of our page and what would be the top. Then we were asked to draw a palm tree. Next, two horizonal lines -- one to separate sand from the water, and the next one to separate the water from the sky. Then we were to draw a campfire in the sand area of our scene. After that we could see what we had on our pages, add the sunlight, and then color the picture with watercolors, watercolor pencils, or crayons. Strange results, but fun.

The next assignment was to draw with our eyes closed, following the prompts. We had three different-sized black markers to use with this project. Using the medium pen, we drew a dog house. Next, with the fine point marker we drew a candy cane. Using the large marker we drew a turtle. Then we could open our eyes and use color or collage materials to make the marks on the page into whatever we wanted them to be. My turtle and the dog house came out okay, so I used watercolor pencils for them, but the candy cane was totally unrecognizable. I didn't even want to try to make it into a tree! Using an image from the collage papers that were passed around, I cut out a picture of an old guy in shorts with his belly hanging out and pasted him over the failed candy cane. That made my picture just goofy enough to be successful. Another wacky project, but we all had some laughs!

Sounds like things are keeping you busy! I'll be ready to pack up these winter clothes as soon as I can.

I've been getting clothes packed and items like boxes and packing materials together so that I can leave this afternoon. I won't have internet service (or TV!), and my phone service will intermittent this coming week because my aunt's house has a metal roof that blocks the signal. And with the cold and rainy weather expected there, I won't be wanting to walk out to the back fence or to the middle of the street to get cell service! LOL!

I don't have a treadmill, but I do have a stationary bicycle that I don't ride near enough.

Hope you enjoy writing in your new journal. I have all sorts of journals around here, too, that I've been working in. Still have not tried bullet journaling, and not sure that I ever will. But never say never!

Re: the oil paints. I can't handle the odors, either, so I'm totally satisfied using acrylics or watercolors. I admire those who are so proficient at oil painting and are so good at mixing and blending colors. I have painted only one picture in oils during a class in the 70s, I guess, plus I used to use oils on pottery in folk art-style painting. That was before all my allergies, though. It's not practical for me now.

I have several drawing books and have taken courses in drawing, but it's a work in progress! Last night I was listening to a vlog and I sketched the woman's face (just on a used envelope) as she was talking. I've seen some good drawing instructions on YouTube, so you might look there, too.

Good luck with getting Patty trained for the leash!

Louise: If the weather is nice I might walk outside , but I have a treadmill in my house and I listen to music while I walk or it would be too boring . Outside there is stuff to look at while I walk which makes for an interesting walk. I have a number of blockages so I can't walk very far or very fast , but I do what I can do because I think we have to keep moving no matter how slow.
I did 11 min. on my treadmill today.

I bought a new type of Journal and it came today so I was busy putting it together. It is a loose leaf binder type and came we 3 types of papers . My bullet Journal was getting too full and there was no way to add pages , that is why I am trying this out. I already see where I can improve on this one too. LOL Are we ever satisfied?

Also I am trying to train my Cat to a lease. I have not got to far in that yet since she is scared of the lease and will not let me put it on her yet. This Summer I want to be able to walk her around the backyard to get some fresh air and maybe train her to walk to the mail box with me. My mail box is not attached to the house . I have to walk down a short block to get my mail.

I have always enjoyed painting pictures, yet I have never had a drawing glass and to improve my paintings I feel learning to draw better would help so I bought a book on how to draw. I think it will help me with perception. I like water color and acrylic' I have never been a big fan of Oil painting because I am painting more for fun and that takes awhile to dry plus I paint odors.

This is what I am working on at the moment. Louise, I like how you experiment around with things. It is the best way to figure out what you like and learn new ways of doing things.

That's really good to walk everyday. I just can't handle it when it's so cold outside.

For the past few months I have not been motivated to record my exercise (not that I've done that much) or my steps that are recorded on my Fitbit.

Craftwise, I've been playing with some Ranger brand Dylusions paints. They come in really vivid colors, and they are meant to be blended with either baby wipes or a blending tool rather than using a paint brush. So far I've just been using them with stencils.

Good attitude to keep on doing your good habits of tracking, portion control and good food choices or whatever you do that works for you. Myself I am not into denial of anything when not on vacation , I just work it in. The important thing to remember is you can have it all , but not all at one time or in large amounts so I would do the same thing on vacation . Times past I would use vacation a excuse to over indulge in food , but came to the conclusion it is not worth it.

Yep, I'm an idea gal, for sure; sometimes struggle to follow thru (a friend used to call me the germinator, for all my ideas germinating). That's one reason I chose embodiment as a word for me for 2019, to help focus on following through on both making ideas and plans reality, and to focus on body issues.

SPARKNBs : You have a lot of great idea's . Hope you will post some pictures of your finished projects.

I finally finished with my CD project. Most my collect is Gospel Music, Country Music, Rock n Roll, 50's and 60's. If I buy more CD's they will be blue's and Jazz. I used various containers to group my CD's in. Took a pic of my Gospel CD's. Now when I am in a mood to listen to a particular type I don't have to spend half the day looking for it. LOL

Sorry it came in sideways . I don't know why this happens sometimes.

emoticon re-doing the basement—especially working on organinzing the craft space in Jan & Feb (though got stalled out in Jan with the snow shovelling—just didn't have the energy afterwards, mostly mental energy)
emoticon and I'm making storage out of "crafty recycler" 'supplies' (clear salad boxes) in (large cat litter cardboard) boxes (like diaper boxes, which I saw upcycled on pInterest) & shelving out of other boxes. Also eventually using cat litter cartons (like plastic milk jugs/cartons, but a bit bigger) cut off, I'll crochet drawstring bag tops (yes I spent hours and hours on pinterest, getting ideas and inspiration for my #craftRoomOrgChallenge!
emoticon My cat is now an elder, and has kidney issues (so I have THREE litter boxes, just for him) but he gets along pretty much the same as he's done the rest of his life (I adopted him at about 1 year old, a frisky teen. I'd never had a male cat, and he used to mark occasionally, much more than the females I had, but now I wonder if he's always had a slight kidney issue, to a low-level, that was never picked up by the vets, until it became more pronounced as an elder. Thus he was indoor-outdoor, during nice weather, but he is SUPER sweet—he was a sponsored cat at the Humane Society because he is so sweet
emoticon I just logged some of my holiday gift yarn stash on ravelry.com last night; it's a 10 pack of rainbow mini-skeins; I need to figure out what I want to make with that, plus I have some hats I'm knitting for one of my sisters but it's all buried under stuff in the crafts area, somewhere....
emoticon Also, for fun and relaxation, I've been saving paperboard from packaging & plan on making some ATC's & "postcardsToVoters" for the 4 regular & some special elections that are happening this year (I'm an activist and paid organizer sometimes)
emoticon I also want to start working on pysanky (Ukrainian eoster eggs; done with a wax resist method, kind of like batik) next week, for Spring Equinox + Easter
emoticon After the craft area is organized, then I want to start seeds, in March, in a different part of the basement, & outside (peas around emoticon ); but in the meantime, I need to go through the seed catalogs I ordered & go by the local nursery (& the dollar stores sometimes have screaming deals on seeds; dollar general especially, also big lots)
So those are my craftastic plans....
emoticon Currently, though, I just cut my 2nd TidyCats box; need to find the contact paper I'm going to cover them in.... emoticon

Looking forward to make the Roaring 20's the best decade!! Making it happen!!! Motivation into momentum.
My words-of-the-year: *SMART* (goals) & *evolve* (2018 was persist, 2019 was: *eMbody KIND(/ness) &/ =balance= )

My 2020 goal is TRACKING FOOD to result in a loss of 100 pounds (so 111.20 on ticker, started year 11.2 down from summer 2019)
Jan-March fitness goal = PUSH-UPS! Starting with my age (now 57) wall push-ups....

That does get to be a tedious job when the CDs are out of their covers. Keep at it and you'll get it finished!

I was out of town for most of the day today, so I just mainly went through the mail and recycled ads and envelopes.

Right now I am working on getting my CD's organized. I use to be real organize , but after my stroke almost 3 years ago now . I fell into some bad habits like listening to my CD's and not putting them back in their cover. Now I a large collection so I recently bought a case to put them in , but first I have to match CD to their cover. It is very time consuming so I try to spend at least 15 min. a day on this project as I like to listen to music while I am being creative. Little by little I am getting it done.

Hope things go better for you! I'm glad you got a partial "art fix" by watching the video.

I used to do a lot of calligraphy, but I put that aside about 29 years ago when I got a divorce and had to get a job! Anyway, I had put some inks in a box when I moved, and I looked for them this weekend to do some of that pulled string art. One of the bottles was an acrylic ink, and it was dried up and not able to be salvaged. A few of the bottles of the good Sheaffer inks were dried up, too, so this morning I boiled some distilled water and reconstituted them. I'll try them later this evening or tomorrow on my project, and I think they are going to be dark enough to use. I wasn't being as careful as I should have been, and now I have blue ink stains on my fingers and under my nails! Oh, well...

I have not been working on anything this week because of my multitude of problems taking up my time.

One of my Christmas gifts from my son's family is still in the box, too. Just sitting on the floor. It's a piece of yard art, and I need to get it put together (someday!) and find where to place it in my yard. But that's on hold for now.

Polly, I have spent years letting other things get in my way of making art, so this year I decided that allowing myself to have a creative outlet everyday was going to be a priority. Many days my house is a mess and the dishes aren't done, but I am already so much more content.

Today I want to do a little more string pull art, which will be the content for my next small book. I have only worked with one color so far, but it's simple and fun. Here's a link for how to do it, in case you have not seen it before.

Moving the furniture around plus shoveling snow has got me down in the back

Having stuff in boxes is only bad if you don't know what box what is in. LOL Sounds like your set up is working for you and not stopping you from being creative.

I moved a heavy inn table to put a Cat House. Move one thing then there are other things to move. LOL My worse problem to solve is in my Kitchen. I got some new gadgets for Christmas gifts that I don't have the space for. They are still in their boxes till I can figure out where on earth I have space left to put them . I am maxed out.

I seem to just be moving things from one box to another! I don't think I'll ever find a place for everything until I throw a bunch of things out. But that's not going to happen soon.

Last night I finally decided on a cover paper for one of my little books, so I pasted that paper on the book boards last night. In a few minutes I'll go in and glue the accordian book pages to the covers and add a ribbon to close it.

I love rummage sales!

Yesterday one of my friends helped me with a valentine project that I will take to the assisted living home for the ladies to work on next Tuesday. We cut out burlap strips and ironed some backing on them to make into banners. Then my friend sewed the banners onto cording to hang them. The ladies will paint in hearts on each of the two end banners, and paint the word L-O-V-E on the four banners in the middle. I saw a finished one for sale at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago and thought it would be fun for the ladies to do. Didn't realize at the time how much preparation it would take to make our own!

This morning I punched holes in pages and covers to bind some little postcard notebooks, but I couldn't find my beeswax to coat the thread. I think I'll just get out an old candle and run the thread over that.

Your hair looks great! I've got an appointment to get my hair cut tomorrow.

I haven't been home very much the past few days, but I have managed to prepare a book page each day. A little behind on the binding, but I'm not going to let it bother me -- and I'll catch up when I have the time.

Yesterday I worked on my hair. It was getting too long and unmanageable so I cut about 6 inches off. I updated my profile picture after I cut my hair. I don't feel as creative when something is bothering me and my hair was bothering me so I stop working on projects and worked on myself . LOL

I started on my goal to get a Cat this year. Collecting stuff I need for one like litter box etc. Watching the web site of local cats for adoption. Pictures make me smile . Lots of cute cats on the site. Don't know when I will complete this project , hopefully by the end of the year or sooner.

Yes Louise , I would like to see a pic of your book. I think we are all visual persons. So much easier to understand what one is talking about if you can see a pic. It sounds like a very helpful project to your Art.

I got out to Hobby Lobby today where the leafs I wanted are on sale today for 50% off . Wow I could not believe all the bird houses and ones like I never saw before. I already bought as many as I need for my project so I passed them by.

Sounds like a fun project you're working on in your kitchen! I bet that's going to turn out nicely. My mother was a birder, and I inherited a lot of her porcelain birds, plus some decorative plates with birds on them. I don't have the plates hung, but there are a lot of decorative birds sitting around my house, too! They make me smile.

This week I am working with Gelatos pigment sticks on the paper for my next book. This book will be a simple accordian fold, so I've got the pages glued together and I've completed four pages already. I have 12 colors, so there will be 12 segments (pages) in the book. When finished, it will end up the same size as the other three books that I have made this month --
2" x " 2 1/2".

IMPROVINGME" Lighthouses would fit in with that theme. They probably were not hand painted ones like mine. I have one light house flower pot that was store bought that I like. Right now there is no plant in it. Sorry to say I don't have a green thumb.

Carol: Good for you!

AT the moment I am working on a decoration project for above my Kitchen Cabinets. I am placing birdhouses up there and Bird Nick Knacks up there. I want to get some artificial green leafs to place around the bird houses. I will take a Pic for you when I get it all done.

I love those flower pot lighthouses. I went to a volunteer luncheon last year and those were the decorations for their "Beacon of Light" theme. Several lucky people won them as door prizes, but I didn't end up getting to take one home.

Well, I found my Vision Board out in the corner of the garage. It was not easy getting too it because I have too much stuff in my garage. One of my home goals this year is to de-clutter the garage , but I will wait till warmer weather because there is no heat there and it is COLD out there.

Took a pic of my Vision board .

IMPROVINGME: Thanks for sharing , you just came me some ideas. LOL I have one big vision board that is old so I might make another one even though I still have the old one. I could make smaller ones like you did and put in places like you used as I don't have much wall space to hang one. Like you it will have to take a back burner for now as I have a number of projects I am wanting to get done.

We can't hold on to everything and recently I read a tip somewhere on organizing and it said if you part with something you really liked then take a pic of it so you can look back at it. I thought that was a good suggestion. I wish I would of took pictures of some of the flower pots I painted and gave away.

: F8CONE8 : That is great that you did get something you wanted that you posted on your Vision board. That is encouraging. Just remember in the future to take a pic of something your fond of before getting rid of it so you can look back at it and feel the smiles it will give you.

When I worked in adult training I had my students make a vision board the first week they attended. the first one I made hung in my office for years. The car I wanted was a yellow Xterra off road special. I did get it! I didn't keep my board when i retired but wish I had.

I'm jumping into the conversation again. Kind of got sidetracked!

It's been so long since I created a vision board that I need to do another one, too. My last one was probably in 2010 right after I joined SparkPeople. I remember intending to do another one a few years later, but that one never did get finished. I've got lots of projects staring back at me right now, so not sure that I'll get another made anytime soon.

I remember one year -- probably 20 years ago or so when I lived in another house in a different town -- I decided I wanted to glue pictures and text to the inside of my linen closet/bathroom storage door of things I liked or things that I wanted to manifest in my life (pretty much a vision board, although I don't think I knew the term then). Since I opened that door everyday, I thought that would be a good place for me to see beautiful picutres of travel destinations, clothes, shoes, and fashion accessories, and other girly stuff. So I cut them out of magazines and attached them to the inside of the door with rubber cement. Liked it so much that I glued magazine pictures of food items, pretty dishes, teapots and teacups and healthy sayings/quotes to the inside door of the pantry in my kitchen. Sometimes I would take something down and then replace it with something else, just for a visual change. I live by myself, so I'd put anything up that suited my fancy. I really enjoyed seeing those pictures everyday, and sometimes I think I want to do the same thing here, but I haven't. They were real easy to peel off the doors when I moved. I saved some of the images for awhile, then finally came to my senses that there would always be more, so I threw them away. Kind of wish I could go back and look at them again to see what kinds of things I was interested in back then!

Thanks to both of you for sharing what you do. It is good to bounce ideas off each other.

Love the artwork on the cowbell!

I have so many journals going for different activities that someday my kids are going to find all of them and realize they should have intervened. And yes, always one in my purse.

Re: the stickers. I get so many free stickers on address labels, and sometimes I can't bear to throw them away, although I can never possibly use all of them. So a lot of times I'll cut the picture part off the address label and stick a tiny, cute picture on my journal pages just to brighten them up. I guess some of these could be used for codes in a bullet journal, in much the same way that some people color code theirs by using different colors of ink. But I haven't gone that far.

I have a bullet journal in my purse. I do like it but I will make my next one. I've made my regular journals for a couple of years. I write, draw, doodle, etc. My bullet journal i use for notes reminders etc. I would like to be able to draw in it but it is lined. I do like having it in my purse so it is always handy. For instance a friend tells me about a nook or video and I can pull it out.
