I totally understand, Eliz. I will be doing the 16:8 during my travels this week. I'm never hungry for breakfast anyway. Thanks for explaining!

No Tammae I Fast 16 hours and then my goal is to eat during the 8 hour window every day BUT! Often I am only hungry and eat about 4 hours - 6 hours. (2 mini meals, 2 snacks) I eat Low carb, high fat. And I seem to get full very quickly. But if I have a day when company comes, or I have appointments I may only Fast 12 hours and eat 8 hours. I eat about every 2 hours of the hours I eat. I don't eat 8 times! LOL!!

I can't do the Fast Diet of 12 hours fasting- and then eat 550 cals and then Fast 12 hours. I couldn't even make it 1 X a week doing it. The kids take too much of my energy! LOL!

Eliz... are you doing the 500 calories during a 16:8 window twice per week and 16:8 on the feed days? Just curious... and nosy. I did that for a while and it worked well as long as I was not in the house where the temptations stare at me!

At first (a few months back) my body quickly responded to non-fast days with a pound to a 2 gain.(re-gain?) But oddly this month I can eat a bit more on fast and non fast days and weight stays exactly the same! I think my body had to adjust a lot to fasting! Because this is not just a lose quick- gain back fast type of thing like I've done previously. This is for life.

Now I have to reduce the food enough to lose again. But I love the no more up & down scale weights!

Eliz... we had a blueberry smoothie last night. I love blueberries and tis the season that the prices are reasonable. Enjoy... but remember, the carbs really add up... but they are so good for you!

Hey, Lindsay... was just thinking ... maybe the scale is reflecting your head cold issues and water retention. Keep drinking the water...

Tea... work DOES help me stick with my fasting routine. I know the scale hasn't moved for you BUT it hasn't gone up. That is good... remembering you had a weeks worth of buffet on holiday. When I fast the scale will drop but by the end of the weekend it often goes back up and sometimes more than the week before. What keeps me going is that I keep track of my daily weight fluctuations on the calendar and view it over the month. The trend is down... not daily but monthly. What I'm saying is give yourself some time to adjust to fasting. It is frustrating but the scale will move. Be mindful of your eating days too. Those days make or break me.

@tammae: Scale is still not moving (week 2 with a scale stuck in the same place), but i'm not giving up. On holiday now, so i think i'll see a big difference when i go back to work, start biking to work and too busy with work to eat! :-)

In the course of the past week my weight has yo-yo-ed across a six-pound range. SIX pounds!!! Yes, some of that (hopefully quite a lot!) is due to TOM water retention and some of the lower readings were a result of dehydration, fasting and lots of exercise. So at the moment, I really have no idea how my weight is doing!

I'm fasting again today.

Eliz... I do the same... I am eating good carbs but went overboard on the fresh blueberries/strawberries. It is so easy to do! Thank goodness we have IF to fall back on to reset the body. It is wonderful your daughter noticed how you look healthier! What a great feeling... remember that comment to help you stay on track... this WOE takes time but is well worth the effort.

Tea... you may not have lost weight... but at least you did not gain! There is NO WAY I would have gone to buffets for a week and not gain. You are doing great! Keep it up and stick with your plan. You've got this...

That's great, TEA - congratulations!

I was away last week, too, but unlike you I DID gain a few pounds. However, I'm back now and have already taken steps to get my weight and eating back under control. I didn't go too overboard on holiday, so I hope it won't take long to get back to where I was.

Ok! Back from a week in buffee land!
I did not put on ANY weight.. yeah!
This was my strategy: No breakfast (it's not too unsocial, since people get up at different hours).
Lunch and dinner i ate what i wanted, but started with loading on veggies.
I also tried to avoid, but not ban altogether the sweets...
I'm pretty pleased... :-)

Love small plates!! When we have people for dinner we hand them the large china plates and then they look at us quizzically as we always use the small (8" in our set) plates!! LOL!

All excellent suggestions.

Recently we went out to breakfast and they served us a fancy cup of coffee in a very large mug, had to be at least 16 ounces, which we all finished before the meal arrived. None of us were able to finish our meals, and the portions were not large. So I am thinking 16 ounces of any fluid before you eat will work to help curb your appetite.

Maybe for 2 of the meals you could use the dessert sized plate and only do one trip to the buffet. Then for the 3rd use a regular sized plate and maybe allow for dessert as well, so that you don't feel deprived. I feel like we all have a favorite meal, my husband's is breakfast mine is lunch, and if you let yourself go a bit for your favorite and just did a sort of tasting for the other 2 meals you should come out doing well.

I would also suggest a shift in focus to what you will be doing and away from what you will be eating. I find this works for me when I visit my mom who lives at the beach, I usually come back from there having lost a pound or two.

Good luck and remember to have fun!!!

Good idea, Lindsay. I use a small plate for all my meals and it does help to give myself time to "feel full". I also have to focus on eating slower when I'm very hungry. Don't want to inhale the foods like a vacuum!

Eliz... I agree... no need to swallow foods that are not tasty! Sometimes only one bite is enough.

Tea... one thing I thought of for your situation... before eating the food drink a large glass of water for hydration and to feel fuller. I notice for myself I drink less during a meal so I try to get that glass of water in "before" I start eating.

One suggestion for not over-eating when faced with a buffet might be to tell yourself you can eat whatever you like provided you put everything you're going to eat onto a plate (preferably a 9-inch plate rather than a huge one), then go and sit down, focus on it and savour each mouthful - and then that's it. No going back for more or nibbling something whilst standing at the buffet table.

If you want to do the same for dessert - that's fine, but again you could - if you choose to - decide to limit yourself to a certain amount (eg what will fit on a saucer or in a cup) and again, not go back for seconds.

I'm not sure if this is possible in practice, but I think if you determine / plan in advance how you're going to tackle it and what rules you're going to set yourself that's far more likely to be successful than simply turning up to the buffet table and trying to 'be good'!

Best of luck TEA - let us know how you get on!

Ha, ha, that is a good trick.
I'm now on day 5 of a 8-9 hour eating window... this is way easier than 5:2 !!!
Though the scale has not started to move yet... but i guess that will come...

Me too Tammae, my best intentions always fly out the window if I use "will power".

TEA I gain too if I give in, but sometimes I just think that's life. :o) The memory is often well worth it. (the trip memory) Food is soon forgotten. And if I'm careful its just a few pounds. :o)
Lately I've been actually spitting (into my napkin) food out that I "tasted" and realized was not worth eating! LOL!! TMI ;o)

Wow... buffet three times per day WOULD be tough. I do not like buffets because it IS too easy to eat even without being hungry. Too many temptations. Can you order off the menu too? I've done that before at places where there is a choice. That way my portions are not infinite.

I also agree that proper fasting may be impossible that week. I know exactly how I'd behave... At first I'd skip meals and drink coffee/tea or eat salads. But, after a few days this girl would eat everything on the buffet including all the desserts! I would have NO self control.

Anyone else have ideas for TeaDrinker7? I'd love to hear suggestions for this too. Anyone been on a cruse or vacation where the choices are endless?

Thanks... another day with no problem skipping a meal.
The challenge will be next week when i'm on a holiday with a buffe 3 times a day.
I find the social pressure to sit there and not eating challenging, or avoiding the meal all together... i just feel very awkward...

I have eaten that way many times but notice I do not lose weight as well. I can see where it would fit the lifestyle of having kids at home. I, too, would do the same if my kids were still home. Currently I do 5:2 and do the 8 hour window most eating days.
