Eight days in a row of walking. Been getting up at 5 am and going for 30 minute walks before getting ready for work. Almost blew it yesterday.

Since it was Sunday, I didn't wake at 5 am to walk and kept putting it off and putting it off. Finally, had to leave the house ar 7:30 PM to make sure I didn't miss a day!

Went to the gym after work today and did 30 minutes on the Precor Elliptical. I read my Woman's World magazine while on the elliptical. I use the magazine to cover the time, so I get a little lost in the reading and before I know it, 30 minutes is done.

Gym was too crowded today so I only worked the elliptical.

I walked for 30 minutes yesterday and just finished my 20 minutes today. This is the start of my second week of daily exercise with a friday break day. Three weeks is a habit I heard. I really looked forward to do my 20 minutes today.

Aarrggghh. I put in Preventions express workout dvd and did the 10 minute workout - what a way to find out what crappy shape I am in! Goal: Be able to do each 10 minute workout without dying.

Good morning everyone,
I did 40 minutes of exersizes yesterday,
walked 15,968 steps with pedometer,
thats 441.7 calories burned well thats what it says anyway.
I plan on doing more walking today.
I already did alot of my exersizes today.

Nope I did not run away completely but did fall off the excercise horse there for just a bit. I'm back though. Walked 30 mins on treadmill yesterday and 40 mins on treadmill tonight. It's a start. Day 2 and heading toward many more!

Funny- there's this myth that having kids keeps you skinny and active. Babies give you baby fat (you know, you're eating for two and you are hungry!). And having kids may keep you on your toes, but you are stuck in the house, not necessarily getting real exercise, and doing your best imitation of McDonald's - you know how that goes: fast food on demand, usually the kind that is loaded with fat and sugar. My kids are older now, and now it's more like - "mom, give me a ride" "mom, come pick me up" or just plain just visiting on the phone. I just quit a job as a preschool teacher, and that kept me on my feet too - and in the process, I put more weight on.
I do get at least 30 minutes of exercise like up and down stairs, doing dishes, switching laundry and other housework, but doing that is kinda like what happens when people hit plateaus - it keeps me on my feet, but my body is used to that and not pushing that limit that burns fat. I have been lifting weights and trying to swim during the summers, even took up judo for a few years, but I found myself building muscle but NOT losing fat. A bad fall a couple of years ago messed up my knees for a while and became an excuse to not exercise. Add in all that wonderful seasonal cooking during the fall and winter....
My biggest challenge is that I like to eat - and I am guilty of indulging in LARGE portions.
I think that SparkPeople really hits it on the head about how we need to change the way we view food, and to change our entire way of thinking regarding exercise, portions, and so on. It really encourages me too to see the success stories and to see and hear from others who are struggling with their weight.
I've only been on for two weeks, but I can feel the psychological difference in myself - I like it. Lots of really good ideas on here!

Eilythia- 11 kids??!!! You must get at LEAST the equivalent of 30 minutes of exercise EVERY DAY! Welcome- I'm new to this group, too- and fairly new to Sparkpeople (just over a week!).

I'm cold, today and I've been considering not going for a walk, but.. having read all that you all are doing, I've decided to get motivated and get out of the house! So, off I go, for a walk. Good luck to you all! We have a public holiday, tomorrow, so I have no excuse then, either!

Hi everybody - thought this looked like a great group to join! My goal is to get in at least 30 straight minutes of walking or the equivalent 5 days a week (6 would be better of course, but life has a habit of happening), but I really like the idea of getting 10 minute bursts in too.
I had a really bad diet day yesterday - all fast food and no exercise - but I am proud of myself today because I got up and stretched for a few minutes and pushed myself up a hill that I had been eyeing for the last two weeks. And ate much better!

I've stuck to a minimum of ten minutes walking, daily- mostly forty mins or so.. and I feel great satisfaction from knowing that I am maintaining that, daily. Good luck to everyone!

OK! I'm in! I am trying to start a streak! Even if it's just 10 minutes a day, I WILL get some physical activity in.

My streak started Monday so I have exercised at least 30 minutes a day for 4 days in a row.

Yesterday I did 12 minutes on the treadmill, 22 minutes on the elliptical trainer, and walked back an forth to the shopping center to get a mouse for my laptop - 40 minutes each way.

hey Everyone, I'm so proud of myself! As I was watching my TV programs earlier today I worked out the entire time!!! That gave me an additional 30 to 45 minutes (since it was taped and I bypassed the commercials) to work out! I did jumping jacks, crunches, leg lifts, and jogging in place the entire time. Worked up a sweat and felt FANTASTIC afterwards!!
