It took me awhile to get into this series but I love how the characters are developing. Can't wait to see what they will do next. :) Especially the way this one ended!!

While this is an engaging read it is also a sad testament to the stupid decisions people will make when it comes to money.

The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection - Alexander McCall Smith - 4 stars

Another good book in the series of the women of the detective agency who meet the author of the book they use in their practice. Though I predicted much of the plot I learned more about the characters and there were a few surprises.

The Last Woman in the Forest
by Diane Les Becquets
4 stars

A woman gets help to figure out if her dead boyfriend could be a serial killer. The only thing I didn't like about the book is that a dog was severely injured and the description of the incident was almost too much for me. Not that I wasn't concerned about the women killed by a serial killer but somehow I can't distance myself away from animal injury and death, the way I can for fictional humans.

How have I never read anything by this author before? Her characters are so tenderly imagined, her plot is solidly executed, and she finishes the novel so strongly. A really fantastic novel.

The continuation of Little Women. The March sisters grow into adulthood.

Louisa May Alcott has always been one of my favorite authors. This was a re-read for me.

A junior novel that is really engaging and heartwarming. Maybe a touch too much treacle for some adults; I found myself feeling a little chagrined by my emotional response at the end. Still, a worthy read, and a really good one for older children.

An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena 5 stars!

When 10 people show up at Mitchell's Inn, for reasons known only to them, they are expecting to enjoy all that comes with being in the country in winter. But when an ice storm hits and the power goes out, they are thrown together and get to know a little bit about each other. But everyone has a secret that they're not willing to tell. When one of them turns up dead, it's a scramble to figure out who the killer is. A wonderful "who-done-it"!!

Here we are! This is where you can list the books that you finished in October

All posts need book title, author, and stars; 0 being the worst and 6 being very special.

I would encourage you to comment on books that others have read by sending them a Sparkmail. This topic is just to list books read and finished in October 2018 for the team.

This is a thread where we list all the books that we read during the month of October and rate them by the system listed below. Please note that you need to list title, author, and your rating for it to be counted. Also, please give a description of the book and how it appealed to you. This is a great way to find new books and authors that you might be interested in. Everyone is welcome to join.

If you started a book in September (or any prior month), but finish in October, it counts for October.

DO NOT list books STARTED; only books FINISHED. Include title, author and rating.

Rereads count, audios count, electronics count. Our minimum word count is 25,000.

Book Ratings:

0 stars - Fit for only lining birdcages.
1 star - Agent was better salesman than author was writer.
2 stars - Some parts had promise.
3 stars - Solid read in its genre. Take it on plane.
4 stars - Better than average. Don't lose it on the plane.
5 stars - Recommended. One of the top 10% of books in its genre.
6 stars - Strongly recommended. Beg, Borrow, Buy, or Steal It.
