I not positive about how much tuna you should or should not have if not pregnant. Spark People may have some info on that. I have always heard it is just best to have 3 servings a week, and alternate with other kinds of fish having about 5 servings total per week. Catfish is not a good choice by the way, especially fried (is there any other way to eat it?)....... Sorry I could not help more on that one.

Thanks for the great information... I'll have to check it out at Walmart. I'm wondering.... does tuna effect you even if you're not pregnant? I thought it didn't matter afterwards. I love tuna and there are times when I have it 5 times a week. Please let me know about it. Thanks again so much!

Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey!

I have heard and read that Whey Protein Isolate is the best choice and fastest absorbed. I picked mine up at a health food store so I did not have to worry about reading the label to much to read about the additives. I use it in the AM for my smoothie on most days some days I mix it with water after a walk. I like getting the carbs from fruit with it, and I just have a better day if I get my fruits in my diet (way of eating, not weight loss plan) in the morning. I paid a tad more for a smaller 1 lb jar than I would have for a larger bulk jar (in the long run cost will be more) but I wanted unflavored. The kind I bought was Now Sports, and the only sweetener is Stevia, no aspertime or arsinic, I mean Splenda (contains 2% arsinic per packet). It is a milk protein so if you are lactose intollerant you may want to go with the veggie poweder (those are awesome too), but if you are breastfeading this may be the way to go. Only thing about tuna is no more than 2-3 times a week due to mercury content. I know if it's not one thing it's another. I stay away from soy due to some reading I have done and in my honest opinion the jury is still out on that one. So, you may want to pick up a jar of protein after reading some more about it, and keep some tuna on hand, as well as apples and/or bananas with some natural peanut butter. I did pick up a brand called Naturally More Peanut Butter at Wal-Mart and it has ground flax seed added as well as natural oils and the protein per serving is 10 grams and only 2g sat fat, loaded with Omega3's & 6's, and 58% folic acid, which breast feeding mamas need too. Your best bet may be to just have a variety of things on hand so you don't get bored or tired of the same ole thing and you have options.... Hope I didn't overload you with information.

Thanks so much for the information.... I didn't buy anything today because I didn't feel right doing so. I looked at so much stuff like 100% Whey protein, Muscle Milk, Soy protein. I have no clue what to get. I just bought some tuna packs today to have after my workout so I think that will help with a pear or a apple. Most of the ones today either had alot of fat, sugar, or carbs :) I'm going to stick to the foods for now until I figure out which one I want. I would love to know about the vegetable protein... What's that called? Thanks again!!!

Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey!

You want quick protein, have yourself some tunafish. I was told the same thing about consuming protein right after a workout because protein helps repairs the muscle fibers. I was drinking myoplex 42g of protein.

I maxed out and wanted nothing but water. I guess it served its purpose because my body told me it's not having it. :-)

I use a great vegetable protein powder that is very healthy. I use it in the morning, but can be used during the day as well. I can give you more info on it, if anyone is interested. It has made a huge difference for me, giving me a feeling of satisfaction so I am not even hungry until lunch time.

Ive heard that you don't need just protein after a workout. I have read and heard from other experts that you need a snack with both carbs and protein after a workout. A person can only absorb a certain amount of protein at one time, anyway. Personally, I would do a little more research, and i think natural is always better. There are some really good vegetable protein powders out there, too. and I like the apple and peanut butter idea, or the smoothie after a workout. You can't get more natural than that. And I have no idea about the breastfeeding. You may want to talk to your doctor about that.

I was thinking about Muscle milk light... Is that a good one or is all natural the key?

I've added protein powder to my oatmeal in the morning and it would keep me satisfied from my breakfast at 6 am to 1 pm when I can get lunch. I also use it for smoothies when it's too hot or need to eat soon after vigorous exercise. Watch out for ones with lots of additives, they drive up the price without real benefits.

My personal trainer (who was certified)always just told me to eat and make sure it had protein in it. I would usually eat a cut up apple with peanut butter, or a yogurt shake to refuel after my training and spin class with her.

Good luck

Hello everyone, I talked to my personal trainer at Bally's on Wednesday and I have found out that I'm getting closer and closer to my goal weight and body fat percentage. Which I first started on July 6, 2009 I weighed in at 158.6 BMI 29.9, % fat 46.6.... Now I'm 147.2 BMI 26.9, and % fat 34.2. Ok he told me that I needed to start taking vitamins, calcuim and protein supplements like muscle milk. But here's my question.... I'm wondering if that's a good one to chose or if there are any natural ones to choose from that are better. I just don't want to pick something that I'm going to hate later. The reason why he said that I needed a protein supplement is to drink it within 45 mins after a workout. I know I eat healthy but I do think that I may not be getting in enough protein being that I workout around 7 hours a week!! What do you all think? I'm confused and not sure what to get today. By the way... another reason why I'm worried is because I breastfeed 3 times daily to my 14 month old daughter. So will this effect her at all? I'm going to call the cytosport help line (which are the makers of muscle milk) today before I go to workout and see what they say. Thanks for all your help!

Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey!
