Thanks for the reply....I will check out the links! I am being seen by an endocrinologist & I am not sure what all she monitors each time. I do know that she is good & I trust her. I knew I had been gaining again, as all my clothes were fitting too tight, got brave enough to get on a scale this morning & was horrified. I have gained back over 4 pounds. This & the hair loss if really getting to me. Any sparser & I will go to wearing a wig...hate this! Oh, & I once tried the Armour thyroid, & had very adverse side effects, so it has to by Synthroid for me or nothing...OK, off to check out the links...

Susanski,

Excellent article, woman! I just took a look at it. And, guess what? I'm doing practically everything suggested in the article. Here's what I am doing following the article suggestions point by point:

1. My doctor performs a full thyroid panel. She is a General Practitioner and not an Endocrinologist. I am extremely fortunate to have her!
2. My ferritin levels are checked. They are not low.
3. Stomach acid levels have been checked. They are fine.
4. I have been advised to supplement vitamin D, zinc, magnesium, and B-12. Iodine was suggested for consideration. I am not yet supplementing it since weight control has not been an issue for me and I am not symptomatic.
5. Armour thyroid has not produced hair loss.
6. I am free of alopecia areata.
7. I was estrogen dominant during perimenopause and was prescribed a natural progesterone for a period of time.
8. BS is routinely tested and has never been an issue. Through nutrition tracking I learned that my body is subject to inflammatory responses with carb intake above 40% - 45% of total calorie intake. So, my carb target is 30% - 40% of total calories. I also learned this spring that I am gluten intolerant and have been GF for a number of months now and the inflammation present in my body is subsiding.
9. I am supplementing with Biotin and DHA (an essential omega 3 - fatty acid) and routinely eat the fish suggested and ground flaxseed.
10. Am taking an herbal preparation to support adrenal function.

Hi Eve,

I do not have any experience specifically with Hashimoto's. I am going to ask a series of questions for your consideration. If your response is "no" to any of these questions, you may wish to consider pursuring them.

Is your condition being monitored by an endocrinologist? Have you been referred to a nutritionist? Have T3 levels specifically been tested?

Synthetic thyroid hormone (levothroid, synthroid, and the like) did not work for me. It was not until I was prescribed a natural thyroid hormone (Armour thyroid which is dessicated pig thyroid) that my condition and symptoms improved.

FOODFANATIC52 also asked about hair loss. Take a look at my response to her at www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes

I've been actively working at improving my health and well-being for over 3 years now and I am seeing results. But, it has taken consistent effort on my part and the results have not come quickly. So, it's taken a lot of faith and patience on my part.

Hi,
I'm new here...if this thread is not to talk about "anything", I apologize. I have had Hasimoto's thyroid for many years...of late, I have had some unpleasant symptoms, despite medication...I cannot lose weight & have lost so much hair which was thin to begin with. I get a thyroid check every 3 months & lab work says it is OK. I am so frustrated & don't know what to do to combat these things....
