not too bad here weather wise, but we're in for some crappy weather Wed into Thurs. Not much going on, I had to take the Handicapped woman to the Dietitian appt this morning, she lost 2.6 LBS, Yes, finally her family is listening to what needs to be done for her, then we went to pick up her new glasses. This time I found the Parking meter and put in $1.00 worth of quarters, just in case. Didn't want to get another ticket.......

I hope they have someone new doing the census for your county. It really is important. the people whose doors you knock on tend to be illegals (which hey, why not document them? They may become Americans and their descendents may be searching for them eventually), or refugees, or people who just don't understand what a census is and how important it is to the future of the community.

Oh well.

We are already getting snow, but they said Tuesday would be comparatively light, compared to Wednesday, which is when the skies are really supposed to open up. We shall see. Michigan's lakes tend to do funny things to storm predictions. There was one a few years back where the temperature was 0 and they had 13 inches of snow, and just about 50 miles south, it was 30 degrees and they had one inch of snow. the Metereologist (sp) said "See, this is why its so hard to predict whether in Michigan... " So it goes!

@MORTICIAADDAMS why not just hire a foundation expert to do some of that work? I know your husband can do it, but how about just hiring that out, and getting it done. Then you have someone to get mad at (not your husband!) when it doesn't work. Bad joke, sorry, but truly, it might be useful.

Janice- I have had that freezing stuff and it does hurt. Sizzles like hair burning and is hot. That sucks about your well pump! We used to have one with our cisterns.

Kim - We may get some bad weather on Wednesday. Hubby went under the house years ago and filled in the cracks to get rid of mice but he doesn't want to do it again. I think it needs it but he hates going under there as it is very tight. Sigh. I am working on getting rid of lots of stuff too. That is odd about firing people for the census. We didn't get census papers to fill out and called the number and the person wasn't interested at all in helping us get one to fill out. Told me to stop worrying. Our county ended up missing out on $900,000 dollars due to this. The library was schedule to receive $90,000 they didn't get. The drain ideas were good.

I have been sick as a dog and am not doing much.

@JANICEONE1 have read doctor memoirs where they talk about the experience of becoming a patient themselves.... suddenly they have a lot of more empathy for patients! So that lady who lied to you should probably get sprayed, just as a demonstration of how it feels.

Sort of like police officers getting tasered as a demonstration. I bet they don't use it as readily after that.

Regarding being a census taker, one of the questions (for a supervisory position) is whether you have ever fired a person before. Why yes, I have. And now I wonder how often you have to fire people. Probably pretty often.

Dad was a census taker as a teenager. Oh boy.... he said, "I really don't think you should do that." Let's just say I am not the most scary person around, and I don't think people look at me and say, "Ooh, better becareful how I behave.... " So... that could work against me. Haven't heard from them, don't think I will. Don't think I want to work for them, but it was fun to apply, at least.

Hair in drains... we've had that problem too, but mostly in the areas where the stopper has been removed completely. I wonder if your stoppers need to be replaced so that they are not open? They do make rubber inserts that can help with drains that are too open, but they tend to make the water drain out super slowly, and so.... let me see what I can find about that. The link below seemed pretty informative and encompassing. See what you think.

Oh, poor @JANICEONE1 ! Did she spray your face by mistake or on purpose? Why would someone lie to you about whether it hurts or not? So confused!

@MORTICIAADDAMS you're very welcome! Sounds like spring is well underway there. Up here, there are a few signs, but..... we are going to have another storm that should bring us 3-6 inches midweek. Eeek. At least my most important appointment is on Monday, not Wednesday.

Mice: Best thing is to put all your consumables in glass or containers of some sort. Yes, even the cereal, if you buy already made cereal. Second is to go into your basement (if you have one? I never know what parts of the country do or don't. Northeast TN did not (mountains), Florida and Texas usually doesn't, but Michigan usually does, unless they're on a lake, and then the basement is a walkout basement.) Anyway, go down into the basemen tor crawl space, preferrably at high noon. Turn out all the lights, maybe block the windows too. See if you see glints of light. That's where the cracks are, and those need to be filled with steel wool and then plugged. I assume that means something more permanent than chaulk or spackling. Any holes as big as a nickel need to be filled in with something hard.

Check hoses and pipes into the house. These tend to be highways into the house. Check windows too, and if they are loose, chaulk them and fix them up, so they are tight and secure. If your doors have old "sweeps" replace the seals around the doors too. We need to do that very badly. There's also electric traps. They are safer than poison and better than glue traps, and MUCH less hurtful than mousetraps that snap. I did find out how to install the traditional mouse trap so that the mice actually get killed. You put it near the baseboards, because mice run along the walls and baseboards, usually not out in the open, and so the goal is to place traps so the mice run into/across them and get caught and killed immediately. To date, we've caught and killed over 25 mice. Some of those are the cat, at least one is Rosy's kill. :)

They are yucky critters, truly. I need to keep working on it, but part of it is clearing out lots of the stuff we have in the house, including paper of all kinds, books, magazines, etc.

LOL. I spot clean the bathroom every day and don't find a lot of hairs. When I do I get rid of them. I want to make a dermatologist appointment too.

MORTICIAADDAMS, you are too funny, love reading your posts, as to the hairballs, when I wash my hair, I clean off the drain to see how much hair I'm losing, so hopefully it helps to keep my hair out of the drain also. I have to go to the Dermatologist today for my annual skin check-up, OH so much fun. Have a great HUMP day. ( middle of the week day )

Kim, they are desperate for census takers here but most people who live here know this is not a friendly place for that. Thanks so much for the info on the primary and caucuses. My hubby was glad to know this too. I like this system even less now that I understand it better. LOL.

Janice, I am glad the weather is looking up for you too.

The weekend was really nice here. Sunny and in the 50s. I got outside and did some work. It was wonderful to discover signs of Spring everywhere. My crocus, daffodils, hyacinths, hearty amaryllis, iris, chives, etc. are all up in varying degrees. Some of my shrubs are getting ready to bud out, like my forsythia. The birds are starting to sing and chase each other. The squirrels are chasing each other too. Not too much going on here other than trying to avoid the flu as it is everywhere. Plus we caught 3 mice in the house and hubby cleaned a stinking hairball out of the bathroom sink the size of a mouse. We don't have a cat so he is our mouser and he is also in charge of hairballs too. If you know a way to prevent mice from coming inside or prevent hairballs from forming in the drains I would be interested.

Primaries... this link below seems to cover it in a fairly balanced way. Short answer, Iowa and New Hampshire have it in their constitution that they go first. In 2008, when Michigan and some other states (8 of them, I think) held their primaries earlier, the Democratic Party threatened not to count those votes for those states at all. Wow.

There has been some discussion about having it on the same day nationally, having a rotation so that states take turns being first, etc.

But basically, I think the answer to your question is, its decided by the state itself, and it is based on tradition as well. Michigan has just proposed a bill to drop the numbe rof elections that are held, so that there are not so many througout the year. Interesting.

Trying to figure out if I want to apply to be a census taker. the problem is, I do not want to go to north side of town! Have a feeling that's what would happen. Hmmm.....

Haven't been out much this week, and I think I need to make sure I go to the Y frequently. Humana will give me a kickback if I go at least 8 days a month. Wow, eh?

Hoping you are all staying warm and not freezing. Our local weatherman thinks winter may be mostly done, which is pretty amazing.....

I'm not sure on the Primaries, we're supposed to have one in April and possibly one in June, I think personally, it's because it is such a high profile election. We didn't get that much snow, but tonight we're going into the deep freeze, thank goodness we don't have Zumba tomorrow morning. Happy Valentines Day all.

I hope everything goes well with the primary and election, Janice. Maybe you know the answer to this question. Why don't they have all of the primaries and caucus on the same day? Some have them in February and some all the way into September. It seems like the early ones often have more influence than later ones on who ends up the candidate. Why is Iowa first and New Hampshire next? Doesn't seem like many people care to vote in those states to me.

I hope you don't get much snow.

Hi all, went to an Election Inspector class last night for the upcoming Primary & Election, we're going to an updated electronic sign in, getting rid of the old, clunky sign in books. This will be a challenge, but I think we'll be able to handle it. I signed up to work the early polls in April and Nov.Have a great week I'm getting ready for the next snow storm.....Oh Boy

Kim, I have that problem a lot with being billed twice and when I check the bill has been paid. I think that these companies do this on purpose to get people to get people to pay twice or get them to use autopay. I set up one bill to be paid this way as a trial and the business was hacked and an attempt was made to hack my checking account but my Lifelock caught it. Lots of businesses have been hacked into now. I am not going to use any more autopay.

We have purchased best buy things from consumer reports that turned out to be huge lemons. Now when I need something like an appliance I talk to people who repair them and find which appliances have the worst repair record and which the best. Thank goodness you had someone to help you.

The weather here is still up and down. Too many close calls

Janice, I hope your arm is okay! I am glad to hear John is doing so well.

Hope all is okay with everyone, Sat. morning I went to go to the Legion to let the girls in for Zumba, as I'm walking to my barn, I saw the ice and thinking about the car being stuck in the ice, I had my coffee cup in one hand and my lunch bag in the other, I stepped on the ice and almost went down, but I managed to grab the barn door and stopped myself, not before I wrenched my right arm........ they should have named me Grace, oh well at least I didn't fall. We're getting more snow/rain today. John has another PT for tomorrow, and I'll be able to go with him, he's almost walking without the aid of the walker/cane now, and doing so much better. Have a great week all.

Got notified about two late bills, and when I went to pay them, lo and behold, they HAD been paid. The timing of the bill and the due date must be off? I may set up autopay, to avoid that problem. Fun times.

We have a new printer now. Haven't installed it yet, but will. Consumers Report told us the best one was one that cost about 280. I looked at it, and it is huge. Great reviews though. While I stood there printer-ink-stained (green fingers!) staring at it thoughtfully, one of the people who works there came up and talked to me for a bit. He wound up showing me a printer for 89 dollars, which is more like the one it is replacing. Turns out the first one was more for an office. Oh.... glad i didn't buy that one. LOL. They're nice there.

Midwstern nice is a thing, you know.

I don't think I'm going to go work out at the Y today. Maybe tomorrow. We are supposed to get between 2-3 inches of snow, and the roads are supposed to be slippery, because the snow may/is turning into drizzle. Whoopee. Supposed to take Rosy to a drop in dog training thing, not going to do that either!

xoxo

They actually did away with parking meters here. I am certainly not an expert on this subject but I don't think they really made a great deal of money with them here and most people were shopping in places where they could avoid them. It seems like a waste of time for a police officer as we didn't have meter maids. People did not have their vehicles hauled off though.

Kim, I am really looking forward to spring. My neighbor down the road is actually a chiropractor. My maid of honor worked for another chiropractor. She went to both of them and goes all the time. A friend of mine was the director of the massage therapy at the local college. I should probably be braver. My hubby and I discussed it and we probably both should be. LOL

@MORTICIAADDAMS you might ask around for a good chiro. We have a lot here, and I think there may have been a school in the area. I still remember a family of chiros in which 7 generations were chiros. The house they had their practice in is now gone, but it was a stately white house. I wonder where they are now.

Anyway, you can ask for very gentle adjustments. They have a piece of equipment called an activator that just gently bangs on out of alignment bones, which does not hurt. You can ask that they only use that. My first one, I asked that they not do really extensive adjustments, they did do some (I said yes). My current one adjusts a little more aggressively, but it is working out really well.

I talked to my massage therapist who when I told her the ones recommended to me, said, "That one is really heavy handed, I would not go to him" and that she had heard good things about the one I ended up with. And all is well.

Maybe start with the massage before going to the chiro? I know your area sort of limits the resources where you are.

Hoping for the best for you.

At the university where I went to school, parking was at a premium. I had my car towed because I parked at the end of the parking spaces on a street. Wasn't sticking out into the street, but.... no car there! had to pay to get it out of the lot. :(

My friend told me that one of the meter "maids" was particularly punitive. The law school students were particularly preyed upon by her. Even if you walked up and it was a half a minute after the parking expired, she wrote you a ticket. So one day, before graduation, one of the law students got a whole bucket of coins, probably nickels or dimes. He knew her schedule, so he waited until she was approaching, and calmly walked along the street ahead of her, dropping in coins in anyone's meter that was close to expiring or expired. She screamed bloody murder at him.

that was about the only time I ever saw parking patrol people get their deserved reward! LOL.

I hope you got the ticket voided out, Janice. that's really not fair to change the rules without much publicity. And here you are, doing a good deed!

@MORTICIAADDAMS hope your day went well, and that you are feeling better. The good thing is, you will be getting spring about two or three weeks before I do. :) something to look forward to, spring, new life, beautiful leaves and flowers.

That really sucks about the ticket! I hate city parking!

We got a light dusting of snow last night and it stayed around freezing all day so it didn't all melt. Gloomy. I got my tax stuff gathered up and ready to take to our appointment later in the month.

I did catch some of the commercials for the superbowl, yesterday took the Handicapped woman to Troy to the eye place for her 2 year check-up, found a parking spot not too far from the place, when we went in, there was a sign on the door about new parking meters, I asked the receptionist about it and she gave me the lowdown, I went back out to put quarters in it and there was already a parking ticket under my windshield wiper.......what a scam the City runs, I made a copy of the ticket & the meter receipt that you have to put on your dashboard, and wrote a letter to whom ever and see what happens, I will send in the money just because.........ARGH
we're supposed to get some nasty weather tomorrow night into Thurs. am

Sunday was beautiful here and in the mid 60s so hubby and I got outside some. We are not into sports or commercials but we do like animals, including dogs, so we watched a little of the Puppy Bowl. So many cute dogs!

Today was nice and warm too but the sun when in and it started to sprinkle. I got my laundry, cleaning, and vacuuming done. I am trying to finish another Joanna Fluke book today. They tend to go on a little too long.

I love to hear about all of the gardening activities. I don't know it we will do much with ours this year.

I have often thought about going to a chiropractor but am afraid. I'm glad yours helped you.

I took another bag of clothes to town to donate. Am cleaning off the kitchen counters.

We don't watch Superbowl either.

Got up late today. Hubby was feeling sick all day and was cranky. We did some shopping and errands - got gas, went to Rural King to get wild life food, Schnucks for groceries, Walmart for more phone stuff. Tried to sit outside and it was too cold. I regret getting out of bed really. LOL.

I know spring is coming, because the master gardeners are starting to ramp up their course offerings and are planning for the Mother's Day plant sale. Fun! So many things to do, but I won't do even a quarter of them all. But it is nice to know about them.

I managed to sprain a muscle in my lower back, one that is near the SI joint. Oh, that was painful. Saw the chiro the next day, and she really helped me a lot. Whew. Still recovering. I stpped over the cat's eating box, and it was too big of a stepover, felt something slide in my back. Fortunately, the parents have lots of muscle relaxants and things like that for me to use...

now making plans to continue to clean the back part of the kitchen out and get rid of things and mice. I hate mice. Argh.

Hoping all of you had a good weekend. Super Bowl tomorrow, probably won't watch...

The temps are still crazy here - up and down, up and down, up and down. I would just as soon it level out somewhere and stay - in the 40s, 50s, 60s, whatever. We have threats of sleet, freezing rain, snow, ice, rain every few days and have gotten a dusting of snow again today but it melted quickly. It's always cloudy, gloomy, dark, dismal, foggy. I am seeking out my SAD light because the sun seldom shines. Kind of sick of it. LOL.

My MRSA is active again. I have one on my temple. I rarely have any on my face. They hurt no matter where you have them and there is no convenient place. I hope it's not going to get real big and have to be lanced and leave a scar. When my MRSA is active I feel rung out. I just had a fever blister. I am sneezing. Wheezing off and on. Some nasal congestion. Hot and cold. Not sick but not well. Kind of sick of it. LOL.

Hubby and I both have our phones now and both of us are struggling to use them. We thought they were similar but they aren't. We are complete morons with either phone though. LOL. Hubby would like to use his and I really don't care. He has spent hours dealing with his and has accomplished one thing - he says he managed to get my numbers programmed in. LOL. Last night between the 2 of us we managed to get my important numbers put in. I was ready to put the "mother" to bed after that. Kind of sick of it. LOL.

Do you see a trend here? LOL. I am getting some things done though. Lots of things. I am throwing away stuff every day, organizing stuff, putting things away, donating things. It makes me happy until I can get outside again. I am making my own "sunshine"

To be honest, when I first started learning to say no I was probably like the 4 year old. I practiced a lot in my head. Prior to that I would make excuses. Some people won't take no for an answer and try to bargain or aggressively push. I always felt anxious and mildly irritated. I didn't want to upset people but I would rather them be upset than me. Now it doesn't bother me to say no and I can even laugh when someone says rude things like, "Do you think you are being fair when you are not doing your fair share?" I smile, look them in the eye, and tell them that I don't have a fair share in whatever is going on. Not my party. I didn't agree to anything. When "we" decided to make grandiose plans "we" didn't consult me about it. I would have said no had I been consulted. I will not have people volunteering my time or money. Once I had a woman pull her scarf off in public to show me her bald head and talk about her chemo. She was angry. I told her the truth. "I feel really sorry for you and your family and I hope and pray you have a full speedy recovery but I'm not going to commit to something I don't want to do."

We felt that now is the time to get some of this decluttering done. Not wait until we are older. We have too much to take care of.

Oh Kim, that was too funny, actually my neighbors are my family so they wouldn't think it was strange of me to start yelling NONONONONO...lol loved your story about the 4 yr old. I was in the market this morning and I was talking to myself, seeing what I needed, etc, a stockboy(man) asked me how I was doing? and I said Great, I just realized I was talking to myself, he started laughing and said as long as you don't get in a fight with yourself

Yes, Janice, practice saying no! Say no to your mirror. Or just shout into your back yard. "No means no! No means NO!" I wonder what your neighbors would think. LOL. But seriously, do practice that. I've had to. I feel guilty sometimes, but I just can't do it. Low energy.... which does not sound like your problem, you sound over extended.

Funny story here, the lady a house down from me did child care for relatives. So she baby sat her nieces & nephews, and then her grand nieces & nephews. Probably her own children's children too by now.

anyway, down the street comes a 4 year old riding a big wheel. He was saying the same thing over and over and looking thoroughly upset. He was saying, "No means no, no means no, no means no... " So we know what my neighbor had been saying to him. LOL. So funny. But true.... I found an article about learning how to say no, and it boiled down to saying, "Sorry, I can't commit to this." "No, I can't do it." or in your case, "I'm leaving at 9pm no matter what, so be ready to go by then or else. I am not waiting."

But it takes a heart of steel to do that, I think. I used to tell people who wanted me to be treasurer that I was really good at losing checks and not to make me do it..... that helped a lot. :)

glad you are decluttering now, Mortica. Now is a good time. I want to do much more of it before my sister retires, because I think if people wait until they are retired, they never do it. It becomes something to put off because other things in life are more fun or more important.

Back to cleaning up the kitchen. We need to throw away many things in this kitchen.....

Kim, so great to hear from you.

I have starting cataracts so I guess I will have that surgery to look forward to. I'm glad it helped your dad.

I have been busy too and not online as much. I am finally decluttering in earnest. Hubby and I are eager to get on with this.

I'm kind of like Rosie and need to be inspired. I need to keep busy and have a purpose.

I thought the shingle shot was rough too. My insurance didn't pay any of either shot and it's common.

Thanks for the author recommendation. I saved it.

Janice, I totally understand. I used to volunteer all of the time but I eventually had to set limits as things were going the way they are for you. My hubby has had similar problems. I'm sure these people don't realize how difficult this can be for you. Hubby once stopped to help a coworker who had car trouble on the way home and this girl keep him busy for hours running her around. He hadn't had supper. He was tired. It was using up our gas. Total ridiculous. And he gets calls from coworkers at home all the time wanting him to work for free for hours for them. He is too old for this. I'm sending you a hug.

did not have a very good end of the week, Thurs. I work 2 part-time jobs and then I went to a Visitation dinner that night. One of the older ladies that I pick up for the County meetings called me on Wed. and asked if I could give them a ride home from the dinner. I told her I was planning on leaving right after the dinner before the boring speeches begin, Judy says Oh they'll be done by 9 pm, cause the limo will be there to pick up the head honchos, well I say OH alright. I never got home til 10:40 pm and didn't get too sleep until after 1 am, and up at 6 am. I really have to start saying NO, anyway at work on Fri. I was so tired, I tripped and fell into a tote of papers I keep behind the counter to wrap up glass stuff. Hurt my butt and my pride. didn't get home Fri until 8:30 pm from the Legion, OH I forgot to tell you, I signed up to make 2 pans of Lasagna for the Church dinner on Sat. night. So I set me alarm for 5 am Sat to get up and make my pans, I go to the Legion at 7:30 am to let the ladies in for Zumba, tell them I can't stay cause I still have to bake the pans. At 8:45 am I start to take the pans out of the oven, I grabbed the first pan of meat one and tripped on a towel that hangs from the oven door, headed for the sink and spilled half the lasagna, at that point I just started crying. I have to be at work by 9 am to open the store. I bring the pans with me to bring over to the Church for later, It was just a totally screwed up weekend because of being so tired. I'm going to work on my saying NO, NO, NO

@JANICEONE1 have been thinking about you too, especially with all the snow we've had. Sounds like you've been busy. So glad your sweetie is doing better and continuing to work on his rehab. That's half the battle. The other half is continuing to do the exercises even after they release you from PT.

@MORTICIAADDAMS a new author for you to check out, Kate Saunders. I read one of her Laetitia Rodd mysteries, finished yesterday and really liked it. I think you will too. Have read Joanne fluke. Mott-Davison (sp? Davidson?) also writes culinary mysteries and is very much like fluke. You may like her too, if you haven't already read her.

Still busy.... shingle shot hurt my arm, but I am glad to have it and not be waiting, hoping that it wouldn't get me before the vaccination. I had to pay for it, as my deductible hasn't kicked in yet. Yay.

glad to be back!

Back again. Dad had his cataract surgery. they kept saying, "Have you had your other eye done yet?" and when he would say yes, ten years ago, they acted all shocked. LOL. I guess most people, their eyes go together in harmony, and usually they do both eyes a month a part. Not us!

He is very cheerful today, already sees lots better, so thrilled for him. He has lots of appointments coming up too, it will be good for him.

And for me too. I need to restrict my electronic time. Get more things done around here. Busy busy time....

Rosy is doing great. I think she thinks I am boring, but I hope to start taking her to doggie things again and start training again. She'll like that. She has a busy mind and needs to be occupied.

xoxo to you all.

I have a Fitbit with the sleep function but I don't think it is very accurate. I have weird dreams too.

We have had a Weather Alert since 3:30 am and have had a little Winter Mix this morning. Nothing major as it is warming up. Cloudy and in the 30s. I got some errands and shopping done yesterday. Finished a book I was reading and started another.

Today I am going to do some cooking and am going to read about how to use my new phone.

I bought myself a Fitbit Inspire, an update from the Zip, and it keeps track of your sleep, last night I did get my 8 hrs of sleep, awake 4 times and restless 12 times. I know I dream a lot when I do fall asleep, sometimes I can remember my dreams and others I must wake too fast cause I don't remember them. I know one thing if anyone ever analyze my dreams they would probably put me away somewhere safe.....I really do have weird dreams. Have a great rest of the week.

They started sending me messages in November about getting a new 4G phone so I decided to as it will take me a while to learn to use it. Verizon is causing it as they are going 4G at the end of this year.

We got above freezing today which is very welcome. The sun is out some. Night before last I only got 2 hours sleep. Last night I got 4.93 hours. I wanted more and I'm still tired. I am not getting a lot done so far. Trying to go through some clothes to get rid of anyway. And finish a book I'm reading. And do some paperwork and bills.

I haven't seen too many squirrels at the feeders this year, a good thing, I have two Tracfones, an old one that I use when I take Gina to her appts. to log in & log out on, and most of my friends & ones from the Aux. have that number, and the new one John got me, I can check my messages & e-mails on, when we go on vacations. It was the new Tracfone that I got a message on, that they're trying to get me to buy a new phone, I'll wait until it happens. It's Sunny here but COLD- in the teens yet

January in the Ohio River Valley is changeable. The temps are really up and down here. Recently we got a lot of rain plus a lot of dark, cloudy, foggy days. Our entire yard was spongy. Then last Friday we had a 12 hour winter weather advisory which lasted longer as we had some sleet and ice. Saturday the winds were unreal and the temps plummeted followed by bitter cold temps. We got a dusting of snow last night and some flurries today. Due to this, I have not wanted to work outside lately nor has my hubby. We do what I have to do outside but we have not done any more decluttering outside and won't unless it makes it to 50. The birds and squirrels are frantic due to this cold. One of the squirrels found a way to shimmy upside down on the wire to get to the suet feeder so hubby had to make a baffle to keep them off. We feed the squirrels every day but we are not going to have them steal all the bird's food too.

I needed a new pair of tennis shoes and found ONE pair here a week ago Thursday that would work. I don't much like the looks of them but I had no choice but this pair. Hubby is going to be going with me on the weekends to do my shopping out of town now in order to avoid the high sales tax here. Not crazy about that but on the positive side I may be able to cut back on having to go to town to maybe once during the week unless I have an appointment.

I went to the library a week ago Thursday and spent some time there. I finished up reading Laura Childs series on the tea shop and the cackleberry cafe. My hubby said that his dad would call eggs cackleberries. I had never heard eggs called that before. It is something from the 1950s. I am not interested in reading Childs scrapbook series. Sometimes I spend longer periods at the library to see if they have new books by authors I have read that they didn't have before and I found one new M.C. Beaton book - "Death of a Witch" in the Hamish series. I also like her Agatha Raisin series. I learned she recently died on December 30th. She is one of my favorite authors. I love her sense of humor. I also found they have some new books by Rhys Bowen I have not read in 2 of her series. I checked out one of those too. I also checked out 2 books by Joanna Fluke. My first time to read her. So far I like her first book.

I am still taking bags of clothes to town to donate and sending small bags of stuff to work for hubby to throw away.

I started using my new Waterpik. Not hard to use but it is different. I bought a few cookbooks.

I slept horrible last night and am exhausted today but every Monday is laundry and cleaning day so I am working on it. The cleaning and vacuuming are done but I still have 2 out of 3 loads of laundry to fold and hang. Last Tuesday the power co-op came and put a new power pole in for us. The pole has been rotten for years. It was interesting to watch. There were 3 men using 2 power trucks and they were very organized which makes me want to be more organized. After they left I had some errands in town to run. I did some batch cooking on Wednesday. Thursday I went to the bank, post office, and did some grocery shopping. Friday I went to the library to return some books.

Saturday I finally bought a cell phone because my tracfone is going to 4G and my little flip phone I bought in 2011 is not. A kid at Walmart got it going for us but I don't how to work it and am not eager to learn. I had 6500 plus minutes and a few months service left on my flip phone so hopefully they were transferred. I did not get a fancy one nor one with a plan but it is a Smart Phone, I think, and will be a lot smarter than me, no doubt. A man at work gave hubby a year old phone and we have to get it set up too. I think people are going to be mad at us because we will never be the type to carry a phone around. It's not who were are. To be honest there are too many needy people who are constantly looking for a favor and we don't intend to be the person to fulfill that duty.

Janice, that is awesome. This must really be encouraging for him. I'm really glad he has you. He has good incentive to get better and so many people don't.

Sunday & Monday we were in the 60's, now we're back in the 20's with a chance of snow this weekend. John can see a big difference already, the PT gave him a couple more exercise to do, besides walking with the Quad cane that I got him for Christmas

It sounds great. It is just what he needs.

Today was sunny and in the upper 40s. It's our last nice weather day for a while as we are going to get a lot of rain for 3 days. I got rid of some limbs in the yard today but I have been mostly decluttering inside. I am continuing my goal of finding things to donate, sell, or throw away daily. Today I put some some old food outside for the wildlife. I got rid of some expired medicine. I threw away a pair of shoes. I rounded up some almost-new socks to give away that I purchased but didn't like.

Hubby and I have too many flat tires. I'm glad yours could be fixed. So glad that John has you to help him get stronger.

watch your foot where you stepped on the glass, my Mother used to put milk & bread on our feet when we stepped on anything in our bare feet when we were kids. I was on my way to drop off dishes & cups & glasses at this place called Unity house, my Low Air Pressure gauge came on, and it was the same wheel last Fall where I picked up a nail & ruined my Tire, anyway I stopped at my Garage where I bring my car & my tire was flat when I pulled in, they checked it & pulled out a nasty looking drill bit that was very sharp. Plugged up the hole and gave me the part, which I keep for Posterity. John did good at his PT yesterday, the woman gave him 5 stretching exercise to do, so I helped him with them when I got to his house this morning after work, I asked him if he did them yet?? and he said No, I wanted to wait for you to help me. Nice to be needed....LOL

Yikes. I have heard from others who have had this bug and hope not to get it. I hope you both are back to 100% soon and that John is able to find some help to get him mobile again.

Hubby and I are trying to get back into the groove. He has 22 "vacation" days a year - 15 vacation days, 3 personal days, 4 perfect attendance days and he took most of them in November and December this year. That doesn't count his 6 paid holidays and unpaid days off when the plant is closed. Many of them are in November and December too. So this is the first full week he has worked in a while and it will be an adjustment for us.

Hubby and I ran some errands on Saturday. It was warmer Sunday so Hubby and I worked outside and got 2 old toilets and a bunch of glass ready to haul off today. Glad to have that load of stuff gone. We went through one of the last piles of outdoor junk and decided what to keep and get rid of but we need to organize it now and haul it off. Later on we will go through the 5 outbuildings to look for stuff to get rid of. I stepped on a shard of glass and stabbed it into my foot but I'm okay. Not a lot of blood but my tennis shoe is toast. I need new ones anyway. Today is laundry, cleaning, and vacuuming. Then some paper work. I fixed some chicken yesterday for supper. I am doing some decluttering inside too. Threw away some clothes today. My fitbit didn't work for over 2 days but I got it going.

emoticon Kim, missed seeing your news, glad you were there to protect your Mom, there is no reason for people to act the way they do, I know sometimes people have an off day, but they should take a break if they act that way. I had a call from Visionworks where I go to get my contacts on Sunday afternoon and the woman said my contact script is up before the 31st of Dec. so I called on Mon to make an appt and the guy that answered checked my file and said it already expired and I'm not due until January of 2020 for new contacts, That's what I thought, but who am I to say, the way they keep changing things.......Every Wed. in January is filled between me, John & Gina's appointment. YEAH............. it's going to be an interesting year, Have a Healthy, Happy New Year all

Yikes, Kim!! I'm so glad you avoided the sick kids. I always try. Hubby and I stayed at home and did a bunch of work.

I had Humana before and they are supposed to be rated good. I hope you like them.

I am glad your mom agreed to get some help. I had the same experience with a female optometrist so I found a new one who is nice. I am glad you were there to help your mom. Outrageous.

I hope you will post pictures of your t-shirt.

We got so much done on hubby's vacation over the holidays as the weather has been wonderful until today. Now I am trying to get back on schedule again. I was very busy today - did 3 loads of laundry, vacuuming, mopping, carpet cleaning, house cleaning, running the dishwasher. Plus miscellaneous chores. Two weeks worth of work crammed into a day. LOL

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you. I have missed being here and seeing all the news! Our Christmas turned interesting. The younger ones came down with a gastrointestinal something or the other that has been going around. In fact, one of the schools in a nearby town closed early for the holidays because over 40 percent of the kids were out sick. They were going to clean the whole school well, which makes it sound like a norovirus, but who knows?

Anyway, we collectively decided not to go near the sick kids, and that's where we were going to have Christmas, so there ya go!

It was quiet, but nice. We kept it very simple in terms of gift exchange.

I selected Humana Chioce PPO. Only time will tell if this is going to work or not. Last year, I met my deductible early, so didn't have to pay much of anything most of the year, but had all these niggling charges from all over the place with every appointment. Got really annoying. I hope that going with Humana helps.

Mom had some follow up appointments for a blocked carotid artery. the CAT scan shows that it is better than they originally thought, but he wants to see her back in three months, so on we go.... the hard part was convincing her to go get the CAT scan done. She said she wasn't going to do anything at first. i think when he talked about doing surgery initially, it scared her. I asked her (after she told me she had cancelled all the appointments), "So, what do you want us to do when you have a massive stroke?" She looked startled.... I think she didn't realize there were consequences to not doing anything at all..... it took her a while but she talked to me about it again, and we scheduled all the appointments, and things went well. I think part of it is, she is taking more seriously the directive to drink more water. I think it opened up her veins.

We would like to avoid more surgery, but better surgery to stop a stroke from happening at all, then no surgery, you know?

On the sad side, I have to write a note about the treatment my mother got at a local optometrist shop. She was mean. Very hyper lady and she didn't take the time to talk to my mother and find out more about why my mother needed her glasses fixed the way she wanted..... I dread getting to that age and having younger people be that dismissive. :( So sad. I went over and stood near her, and the lady backed off a lot, but there is NO reason to treat anyone like that and I should'n't have had to protect my mother from her. Sigh.

On better news, I designed a t-shirt (with a lot of help) and it is going to be gorgeous. We are selling it as a fund raiser for a tracking test at the Welsh Springer National. It should be gorgeous. :) So much fun.

Hoping you all are having more fun and less drama like cars rolling over and weather woes. We are going to get slammed with lots of snow starting tomorrow, they say.... we'll see. Eeek.

Kim and Rosy, a heart team

we were having fun at my brother & SIL until we got a call that our great-nephew ( 17 yrs old ) was on his way over with his sister & brother in the car, our Nephew & his wife ahead of them in their truck, when Ayden rolled the car over, landed in a ditch, nobody was hurt too bad, but it put a big damper on going to Church, without knowing what was really going on until yesterday during the day. Last night we made our annual trek to John's brother & SIL for their Christmas celebration, lots of memories were made, especially when we went to eat and someone discovered a fly in the Cole Slaw....other than that we had a fine night, didn't get home until Midnight.

For Christmas Eve we went out for breakfast and stopped at the meat market. We worked outside again burning old lumber. For Christmas Eve we had New York Strip steaks, seasoned fries, slaw, a roll, black olives, green olives, pickle, fruit salad, cookie, piece of fudge.

Today I made a nice breakfast. We worked outside for a while gathering up stuff to haul off and burn. All the neighbors were blasting off guns all day. For Christmas we had beef roast with potatoes, carrots, celery, onions plus slaw, a roll, black olives, green olives, pickle, fruit salad, cookie, piece of fudge.

Merry Christmas!

Sounds like a great wedding. Hubby and I got married on December 21.

Thursday I did shopping and errands.

Friday hubby had to work a half day. We were supposed to go to the company Xmas dinner but I had a fever blister and he has a MRSA and contaminating a buffet is not something I would consider doing. I did some work outside though.

Saturday was our anniversary and we drove out of town to the Metroeast St. Louis area and ate and went to Sam's.

Sunday we were outside working all day. Hubby worked on the old truck. I was burning limbs all day.

Today we went and did some errands - post office, library, water office, bank. Spent some time outside as the weather is wonderful.

went to John's great-niece's wedding this afternoon, it was quite beautiful with all the white lights strung all over the inside of the Church. Afterwards, we had cookies, cupcakes, and coffee, tea, hot cider and cold lemonade water

Our power cooperative is terrible. They a meeting with us on Friday and told us to call back on Monday as they would have some info or us. They didn't remember us at all, the meeting, the info they were supposed to supply. It's like they are senile or on drugs or something.

I'm tired of cold weather as it arrived here way too early.

We made it to town yesterday and ran some errands and did some shopping. The state roads were cleared and the county roads weren't too bad. The side roads still need some work. Hubby was back to work today. The power company showed up to put in the new power pole. They were supposed to notify 2 days before so I could have everything set up so they couldn't do it. I had the washer and dryer going, was vacuuming, cleaning. These people are a joke. They can't do the simplest things right. Cold today and dreary. Got lots done.
