Hello Ladies,
Weekends are usually a struggle for me and this one was no different, I did however get 3 hours gardening time in so I got a good workout that way. I got my fitbit and am trying it out today! Also I ordered a book about diets for thyroid problems so maybe that will help too.

Nancypat1 ~ I知 sorry about your microwave, that must have been scary! Wow, I can稚 believe all that stuff melted in your car.

Barbarasdiet ~ triple digits! Hope you stayed comfortable.

Jumpup ~ I致e never been to a Farmers Market, sounds like something I need to check into. Congrats on being down on your pred weight. What is a July topic for extra points?

Have a great rest of the day!

Jumpup, great job on the weight loss.

NancyPat, I have learned never to leave a car closed up tight in the summer. Even in VA with temps in the 90s, the temps inside the car will easily reach 150 or more. I have seen mirrors fall off windshields, so unless it is raining, my vents and windows on my van stay to allow for ventillation. Of course, it has been challenging the last week since the temps have been in the 90s and it has been rainy.

I guess Barb will stop by some time today and start the July thread. I'm off to continue sorting, tossing, and cleaning! Have a great week everyone!

The story - 20 years down the road is a LOT funnier than the REALITY of it was - LOL

I am tired of getting angry at my scale - it just does its thing and my body does its thing and the reality is I am not complaining very loudly since everyone is starting to notice my weight loss - the clothes are getting lots bigger, the pool exercises are becoming a source of PRIDE for me and my precious lifeguards - those young men are now starting to CHALLENGE me - I am serious - ONE of them actually wanted to race me - he swims really fast but doesn't have much stamina - struggled a month ago with 12 lengths of the pool and last Friday he swam an entire half a mile (36 lengths) with me (about 2 laps ahead of me and a bit faster than me but still was fun) - LOL My BMI and body fat percentages have both dropped so who can complain?

NancyPat, at least it made for a good story!

Supposedly it was 105 here yesterday and forecast to hit 108. It gets hot in the summer, but this is early for it, and these are extraordinarily high for where I am. Sadly, had to use a/c! My kids are in shock.

Jumpup, my scale refuses to acknowledge my clothing or lack thereof, whether I have gone to the bathroom, or anything else. It just does its thing, which sadly is not what I want from it....

Sunday morning

Thanks for the encouragement on the pred weight, I need it. The scale goes down then up then down, but the average is down, so that part's okay. When I have the same weight 2 days in a row, then I count it as 'what I weigh' LOL!

Naked, before coffee, after bathroom visit - the only way to weigh!

After pushups and visit to Market (mostly salad greens out, but tasty and all kinds), I decided to take a day of rest. The body was just ready.

Did my 11 pushups this morning, we'll see if I can get my stationary bike working today. The tensioner is stuck in the 'I dare you to move me' position. Where is my WD40! Packed, of course.

Supposed to be rainy on and off today - if I can't fix the bike, I'll try for my 1/2 mile walk.

Yeah, Phoenix gets hot, but 120 is a little extreme even for them. And not in June. I went to school in Dallas and later went down in high summer to visit friends. First time I'd been there in the summer. I will never forget that visit! Hottest I'd ever been to that point - and it was 'only' 105!

Nancy. what a mess! You never think of this stuff until you've been faced with it. I pack a blanket in my trunk so I won't freeze if I get stuck in the winter, but who thinks about melting plastic????

Lots of water, and have a great day

My one visit to Phoenix in the summer was when my younger son was living there. I was moving from Washington State to Florida and driving with my niece across country. I had packed my stuff from my medicine cabinet in a black plastic garbage bag - you know the kinds of stuff - vitamins, hair products, and stuff like that - When we got to Phoenix it was 104 - the two days we stayed over there, it stayed hot even through the night. About middle of the second day, there was this HORRIBLE smell filling my car and I could not figure out what it could be. Turns out the plastic bag with the bathroom stuff had melted, the bottles holding the vitamins, hair stuff, etc. had ALSO MELTED, and the capsules themselves had melted - I had this gelatinous mess ooozing all over the back of the car - and a smell that was enough to choke a horse. Lesson learned, don't pack that stuff in a black plastic bag and let your car sit in the Phoenix sun for 2 days. LOL good luck with the heat -

Prednisone weight is a bear but jumpup you are tackling it with some pretty nice results. I also got to a local market for fruits and veggies - REALLY got some good deals too. Hope you are able to find some great tasty bargains.

I think that is pretty common for Phoenix in the summer. We are forecast for 100-104 where I am this weekend. I did put on the A/C this morning, and the house is almost down to where I can turn it off. I do so hate those electric bills, and I will have to put it on again tomorrow. Hopefully, the heat will break after that.

Saturday morning -

Barbara be careful! My daughter in Phoenix said she saw a temp display at 3pm that read 120! Holy Cannoli! Get that baby girl inside the house!

I didn't eat enough veggies yesterday and I can tell today - later today the first Farmer's Market of the season opens - YAY. Hope it stops raining, or that my poncho didn't get packed away. Looking forward to what is available - I am hoping to at least be able to get some snap peas. Maybe some beans. We'll see what's out and what's good.

Did my pushups this morning, will do the bike later. Last evening was so beautiful - fresh and cool, I took a 1/2 mile walk around the block. Was a little dizzy when I got back (another med, another side effect), but I think I can work through that.

Have a great day!

Jumpup, I know how hard it is to get that prednisone weight off, so good for you!

It was very warm upstairs when I went to bed so I put on the fan, but after about an hour, I turned it off and I was fine. THe noise bothers me, even though it is by no means loud. I have just gotten accustomed to being in a completely quiet house, especially at night.

Today, and through Monday are supposed to be in the triple digits here. I debated putting onthe A/C for a couple of hours this morning, but there was a nice cool breeze coming in, so I opened more windows. We'll see what it's like in here when I get home this afternoon.

Fabulous, fantastic, fun-filled Friday to everyone. Yesterday Ed was heating up leftovers for my lunch and the microwave caught on fire. But, that was okay. I have been having loads of fun being able to get to the pool.

Laurie - it sounds like you have a plan and are already getting a head start on your Monday.

Barb - The nights have continued to stay hot and I have been able to sleep through it with a fan blowing directly onto me. I tend to remember bits and pieces of my weirdest dreams but rarely remember a whole dream. I figure it is probably a blessing when I listen to friends share their strange and convoluted dreams. I probably bore people enough without talking about the weird things that might appear if I allowed myself to remember them - LOL.

Jumpup - I have not used one of those but if I found one for cheap or free, I would try it. I have one of those rope exerciser things that I had about 30 years ago. It had loops for hands and feet and you hook it to a door knob and either do exercises for arms and legs while standing or lie on the floor and do them. I used to use it all the time - now getting on the floor is a bit harder - LOL. Who knows if they work, but they DO involve moving, so probably DO some good although probably do not make miracles.

Good Morning! Happy Friday to all! emoticon
Thank you so much for welcoming me to the group. It inspired me to get up and do a workout dvd this morning before work! I will be loading up on healthy foods this weekend and cleaning out all the bad stuff so I can make a fresh start on Monday to eating healthier and getting back to an exercise routine. I ordered a fitbit, has anyone used one? I thought it might be motivational.

Have a wonderful day and I知 looking forward to getting to know you emoticon

Friday Morning - really early

Barb, I am like you, if I dream I don't remember it - and when I do, I hate it! The only ones I remember bits of are full of frustration. (Where is Freud when you need him.....)

Got my push ups in this morning. Found an old swivel board under the bed (amazing what turns up when you are trying to put your life in boxes, lol) so I have started doing that 2x a day. I have no idea if this thing is effective or not - has anyone ever done this? I got it cheap at the discount store years ago and I figured it couldn't hurt, but I never really used it.

That and Layla on the bike - I've lost another 1 1/2 of the "prednisone 11"!! Seven more to go before I start tracking on SP again. (and then we are still looking at 60 lbs, bleh)

Body is feeling better, I am so happy to put the high doses of prednisone behind me - for good I hope. That really knocked me out. I am on a low dose now, but the doc said this dose doesnt usually cause the awful side effects. 6 months out of my life and I still don't even really have a diagnosis!

Have a great day!

The weather has taken a turn for the worse--heat!! It is supposed to hit 100 tomorrow and through the weekend. It was definitely warmer than it has been last night, but I slept in my "good" range. I woke up this morning and looked at the clock and said to myself--another half hour--and the next thing I knew I woke up with a start and it was 40 minutes later. I actually got up, which surprised me. I think because I woke up so suddenly. I remember that I was having weird dreams. I never really remember the dream, but I do remember bits and pieces of this and it was annoying enough to wake me!

Thanks - the car seems to be working now - a friend suggested a couple of things that were free but that might fix it so for the moment the car is working and I PLAN to get to the pool later today. I did my wall pushups in the pool last night too. I like the idea of adding a few of them every time you get a chance.

Barb, I'm sorry to hear about your BIL. I know it will be rough on the family, although they can be thankful that there was little or no suffering.

NancyPat, I hope you get the car acting like it should. It is so frustrating to spend so much time getting what you need to fix the problem, only to have the problem return.

Great job, all of you who are doing those pushups. I've tried to make a habit of doing wall pushups every time I go to the restroom. I know that my hands and arms feel much better when I do them on a regular basis.

Oh Barb, it makes me so sad to hear stories like that. God bless your BIL and SIL. At least it was quick and he didn't suffer a lot - a good death, as it were. We should all be so lucky.

Have you seen these commercials for the at-home defibrillators so you can revive someone who has a sudden heart attack? Keep them away from me! If I am lucky enough to go instantly - Let me go! Don't bring me back to live a life that may include Alzheimer's and disability. I try to keep my interior life in order so that I can go anytime. (of course, some days would be better than others, LOL)

And Nancy! you called it right - a comedy of errors! Glad you are laughing at it!

Have a great day.

Not fun spending your entire day waiting around on something like that.

My BIL passed away this morning. He had been diagnosed a couple of months ago with lung cancer, and it progressed very quickly. Fortunately, he didn't suffer. He was a really good person, and I know it will be hard on my SIL. They married relatively late--she was his 3rd wife and he her 2nd husband, but it was one of those kismet things, they were just right for each other.

Sorry about the damage of the T-storms - we did not get any yesterday but Monday was really bad. I was able to get to the pool FINALLY yesterday. The comedy of errors for a stupid car part made it really debatable. We bought the part on Monday - Ed started to fix the car on Tuesday morning, discovered they gave us the wrong part, called - they would replace it IF Ed brought it back to the store (half hour away) - checked and found nobody around was home, called Helen's grandson and offered to pay for his gas ($20 since he would be driving a an HOUR to get here PLUS the other driving around) and he took Ed to the store - they had SOLD the last of the correct part before Ed arrived (somebody didn't know it was supposed to be saved) - the store apologized and ordered it from another store but it would not get there for THREE hours - killed time and went back to store - the other store misunderstood and sent the part to a store another half hour away but they were sending someone to pick it up - waited another HOUR and got the part - WHEW - got home, put the part in. I flew out of here to the pool and got there in time for HALF of my water class - I stayed for 3 hours though and worked out on my own. Came home with the car started acting up again. Hoping it is something simple but who knows?

I did my pushups on the pool wall and did them REALLY slow - and managed to get all 10 of mine too.

Congratulations on getting rid of some of the prednisone weight - I hate it when my meds add weight to my body - I can do that all by myself doncha know?

I hope everyone has a fantastically wonderful, wacky, wild, and wistful Wednesday that is full of excitement and fun.

Wed. Morning

Well, we got the T'storms last night! My power was out a couple hours, (glad it wasn't longer), trees down, traffic is slow this morning according to the radio. We even had a railroad bridge crumble bits on to the roadway! That road is closed until bridge is repaired, thank God.

Got my push ups in this morning - ALL 10! But instead of the wall, which hurt my wrists, I did them on the sink. I am so pleased that I am finally feeling good enough to get back in the game. 3 pounds of the 'prednisone 11' - off! YAY.

Going for an MRI this morning to see if there's anything left. Cross your fingers. I won't know until 7/2 when I meet with the doc, but I am hoping.

GREAT DAY!

The good and bad here is that we don't have humidity--but it is very dry. So the 80s here are probably a lot more comfortable than where most of you guys have to deal with the humidity.

Hah!! I have given up on my bat wings!! I cannot do a pushup, and for a while I did do the walll pushups, but I just have to remember to do them. I have done other exercises for triceps for a long time, and the wings remain!!

We had some thunder showers here yesterday--short-lived and with no damaging winds. We're back in the 90s today. I did wander out to cut the grass before the temps got out of the 80s so DH won't have to do it tonight. Since we have several large oak trees in our yard, it actually wasn't too bad cutting this morning. I would cut in the sunshine, then duck into the shade where it is always much cooler if I started getting hot!

The pool sounds great, but I have to get busy on organizing in the extra bedroom and getting my house cleaned for next week. I went to Chesapeake and had lunch with my daughter yesterday instead.

Here in NE Florida we are really humide. We were out Sunday and Hubby was really feeling it. I am the one that usually suffers from the heat and humidity, but not as much as he was this weekend. I come in the house and it does not feel like the AC is taking it out of the air, but then when I step outside, I realise it is working. There will be not yardwork for me for a couple of days while it is like this. I have a lot to do, but it will be waiting when I can get outthere and work. A few years back I was in the process of having a heat stroke when I realized it and took quick action. It did take it's toll on me so I know to watch that heat

Keep on track

Have a terrific Tuesday - I do wall pushups in the pool all the time - but hadn't thought of doing them on land - maybe I will try that too. Like you, the wall is where I will definitely start though and I WILL get to the floor eventually.

Tuesday morning and I love the 70s. Even the 80s are bearable - but these 90s! and the humidity!

We never did get the T'storms yesterday, so except for a few minutes of a freshening breeze, no change to the weather.

I joined a 10/day push up challenge today. Got up really early and my resistance was low, lol! Actually, I am looking forward to doing this - don't know why I didn't think about push ups on my own, but I'm here now! I'll have to start on the wall, but I'll get there! Looking forward to reducing my wings! Yay!

Have a great one!

I would be overjoyed with 70s - here it is lovely except for the alternating thunderstorms and nearly 90 degree temperatures with full sunshine oh and NO A/C - I would have no complaints if I could get to the pool OR come into A/C - not even my car's A/C is working. Got parts to repair car and a plan to do it tomorrow so I will be able to go to the pool.

The super moon was clouded over here. I did see it Friday night when it was almost full, so I was able to enjoy God's handiwork.

The next few days here are scheduled to be hot and muggy with thunderstorms in the afternoon. I think I'll hibernate in the AC and work on heavy cleaning. At least with the AC running, carpets will dry faster when they are cleaned. It also is much better on my pulgged sinuses than the heat outside.

Have a great day, everyone!

Oh it is hot and muggy in Alabama too. But I am not complaining at all. I had much rather have this that freezing and raining.

Hope everybody has a great day!

Lucky folks who got to see the Supermoon. It clouded up just before sunset here - no moon for me.

Gonna be hot (90) and humid today, until we get thunderstorms. But don't expect that to help the weather - as soon as the storms pass, back to hot and sticky. Yay.

See, we complained all winter and now aren't appreciating the weather again!! We are never happy.

Sunday - it's dawn again, and I think stress is the answer, LOL.

Barb, good for you, Nancy is right. You DO need a rest day - do not beat yourself up over it.

Hot and Sticky here - already. And only going to get worse. I should get my walk in now, if only I could get dressed.

Have a great one!

Really nice to have both graduations coincide like that--two parties for one cleaning!

Nice out, although it will get warmer later. I could NOT get myself up this morning and I skipped the gym. I'm not happy with myself but a couple of days rest isn't a bad thing since I do it rarely.

You are up because it is a super, spectacular, splendid Saturday and you couldn't wait to enjoy the blessings of the day. . . Or, you are overly stressed and simply could not sleep in . . . Or, you might have a million things to do today. Whatever, have a blessed and wonderful weekend.

Saturday morning at dawn - why am I up.

Garvco, congrats on both the weight loss (stellar) and the graduations. Hope the party is a blast! I love big parties like that, even though they are sooooo much work.

My sister and I did the same thing. My high school grad then a dash to St. Louis to attend my sister's college grad - then dash back home to PARTY! then she had to dash back to St. Louis for work, then dash back home in August to get married and PARTY some more! Gawd, I had forgotten how busy that summer was, for her at least, LOL. But what GREAT PARTIES we had!

Weather should be good enough to get some outdoor activity in today.

Have a great one, all!

A friend just went for a trip to Philadelphia for her grandson's graduation last weekend - she expects to return home today. You are doing great - cutting down on what you drink (other than water) regardless of alcoholic content is a quick way to lose some weight. Drinking our calories is expensive in terms of nutrition.

A very happy summer here in Philadelphia. Today is so beautiful. Sun and no humidity; I could take this all year-round.

So happy the weather will hold through the weekend. We are celebrating our 2 daughters' graduations; college and high school, with about 80 friends and family. Oh my have I been cleaning, shopping and cooking! Don't expect all 80 at one time, thank goodness. These types of parties tend to have the kids (about 45 of the 80) dropping in and out throughout the day and evening. Hope they bring their suits for the pool!

So far, I have been having a good summer - I have dropped about 12 pounds since early MAY, not from starving, but believe it or not, from cutting down my alcohol intake by about 80% and running more. Enjoying how my clothes are fitting.

Happy weekend to all.

NancyPat, that is funny!!

I have those splits you described for both hands. A very long time ago, I had such terrible tendonitis in my wrists that I was in constant pain. It was from the computer. I went to the doctor who gave me a shot of cortisone right in the wrist which was horribly painful but the blessed relief!!! I was also very happy that it was tendonitis and not carpel tunnel. So if my wrist starts hurting, I wear the split for a while, at night is great because it keeps me from bending my wrist in a bad position. And it gets better. I did some reading about the foot thing, and last night I made a point of stretching my foot whenever I woke up during the night. It was considerably less painful this morning. I also wore shoes all day (which I hate!) which they recommend to keep the fascia supported.

Bonnie, I wondered the same thing but haven't tried it yet, as far as using a compression bandage to stabilize the foot. I may try it tonight.

I didn't go on my walk this morning (any excuse, right?) because another cause is walking on hard surfaces like concrete, etc. I'm also sticking to the elliptical for cardio for the coming week since there isn't the impact.

I have arthritis in my thumb too and think that splint would help me too. It mostly bothers me when I have done too much of something involving my hands.

I once taught a young girl who was a bit too fluffy to float upright and it drove her brothers crazy. They were really good swimmers and they were skinny and all muscle. They tried and tried to do it and it was the only thing SHE could do in the water that they couldn't - they tried all summer and she blossomed being able to FINALLY do something the boys couldn't do. It was funny and fun to watch.

Jumpup, I have a similar splint for the thumb on my left hand which is great for the arthritis that I do have. My enemy is raking leaves, and I have a yard full of tall trees. Of course, the trees are staying because they keep the house much cooler in the summer. Without them, I couldn't afford my A/C!

The sinking thing is definitely interesting. My husband was solid muscle in college and failed his swimming class because he couldn't do the dead man's float on the surface--he always sank to about 6 feet below the surface. I'm to the point I would be happy to be that dense instead of "fluffy!" emoticon

That's really interesting about wearing the boot thing while you sleep. Would wrapping your foot like for a sprained ankle work I wonder? That's designed to keep your foot from flexing too.

Couple summers ago, I spent some time refinishing the woodwork, windows and doors in the house (old house, gorgeous honey oak woodwork everywhere) A little while later, I realized my thumb joints hurt like crazy - couldn't even open jars.

Thought, great, nasty 'Arthur Itis' has moved into the neighborhood. Talked to doc, he said it was de Quervain's disease - basically inflammed tendons in my thumbs from doing small hard steel wool work on the wood.

And prescribed Spica splints to sleep in. Hard plastic, molded to your straighted hand and wrist, strapped on with velcro. Took about a week, but what a miracle! I still use it occasionally when my thumbs start to act up. (this is not to say I don't have arthritis in the joints, LOL!)

Check into that boot affair - and don't walk on it! Pain is your body's way of saying stop!

When I saw the article in Prevention I took it to my doctor, he KNEW the doctor who wrote the article and said he respected him. I looked it up for a friend online and found it but can't remember the exact price. You don't wear it during the day - just when you sleep. The doctor explained that the fascia (muscles, ligaments, or whatever) in the foot shrink when the foot drops, then in the morning or after rest, you stand up and stretch it and it tears causing the weird pain patterns. There are also some stretching exercise that they recommend also.

That's interesting, NancyPat, and totally fits with what I've read. That's whey I am trying to make myself wear my sneaks so that I have some arch support. Yesterday I tried wearing some open toed shoes for the arch support but both pairs irritated other parts of my foot (which is probably why I hadn't worn either of them in years) so that didn't work. I may look into that boot thing.

Barbara, have you had that checked by a doctor - what worked for me years ago when I had plantar fascitis was a device that I read about in Prevention Magazine and that is now available commercially. It basically is a boot that holds your foot so it doesn't drop during the night (my doctor had to make mine and it was like a half-cast that I put on when I slept - I had been doing PT and icing the foot for almost 6 months and doing exercises and not getting relief and after using the half-cast for ONE night I was pain-free. I continued to use the device for a while just to make sure I wouldn't have more problems but now it has been nearly 20 years and I have never had a problem (knock on wood) since. You might ask the doctor about the boot thing or if you don't want to go to the doctor, you might look to buy the boot - they cost about $25-50 I think.

I've been having a problem for a couple of weeks with my foot. I'm pretty certain it's plantar fascitis, largely because it only hurts when I first step on it after I have been off my feet for a while. I did the elliptical this morning rather the treadmill, hoping that is less stress on the foot. I debated just blowing it off altogether but just couldn't. I do think that walking tomorrow might not be the best thing for me to do.

Happy Tuesday!

Yah, funny how that sinking thing works, LOL. It just means you have to get your legs stronger to keep you up! (that's why I like the flotation belt, LOL)

Did my stationary bike for the length of 'Layla' two days in a row! (7 minutes) oh, I like those endorphins. Havent really felt them in a while, lol. Couple more days and I will add in 'Born to Run'! It's a start!

Have a great day, all. I am going to the dentist today, so we will see if mine is good or not, LOL!

Jumpup, great job on last week's weight loss. I hope mine does as well this week, although I'm have trouble being careful while I'm away from home.

Barb, you can get a great workout in the pool. You get the extra resistance of the water as well as having less strain on your joints. Sooner or later, I'm going to join the "Twinges in the Hinges" at the Y--in the past it has conflicted with other commitments, but maybe I can started soon.

Treading water and water walking/jogging are something I can do without problems. It used to drive my family crazy because I could walk across the deep end of the pool without my head going below water. Of course, as I lose weight and tone the muscles, I start to sink lower and it is more of a struggle now!

Have a great week everyone!

.Happy Monday Morning!

Yesterday was not only Father's Day, it was my grandson's 4th birthday! What a dude.

They are coming home for a few days in mid-July, can't wait! But I have to really buckle down if I want to lose this steroid weight before they get home! (not that they care, but it's a goal!)

Have a great day, all!

Here Comes the Sun!

At least half the people in my classes don't swim and a few are even afraid of the water. They still get a great workout. I haven't done the deep water jogging, will have to try it - I saw where treading water really burns the calories.

Oh, Barb, you really do need to get into the pool. Even if you can't swim, you can't beat it for an easy tough workout.

I especially like Deep Water Aqua Jog. You wear a flotation belt unless you can tread water forever, Very aerobic, very easy on the joints, great core work! I'm gonna have to sign up again as soon as I can.

I am not much of a lap swimmer, but when I get into the pool thing, I work at it.

Gawd, I miss it! I live (for now, lol) quite close to the muny pool and I watch the kids stream to and from it all day. When my daughter was little, we would go often, but it was always so crowded, not for me by myself, thanks.

Anyway, have a great day and Happy Father's Day to all the Dads and Dad-like men out there. I sure miss mine.

My goal for the summer is to look and feel like a prune ALL summer long.

Hope your Saturday turns out to be even more spectacular than you planned. I am heading to a retirement party for my sister-in-law and looking forward to the gathering.

I love all the tricks I can get and really love to try new ones.

LOL Pool hours may not total a bazillion but they were a lot - AND THEY sure felt like a bazillion or more. I swam almost 10 miles this week PLUS took 4 one hour water aerobic classes and did a whole bunch of other strength training exercises too.

Sunday - 2
Monday - 6 -
Tuesday - 6
Wednesday - 7
Thursday - NONE - settled for LAND based exercises and walking only
Friday - 4

Jumpup - I am glad you are feeling better and happy the pounds are starting to leave in pairs. I did enjoy my workout but not nearly as much as I will today's because the sun is shining and the pool will be waiting for me to come PLAY for a long time. It is lovely here and the storms didn't do much damage. Have a great and blessed day.

Good Friday, Everyone!

I'm telling you, I feel better and better. Supposed to be cooler today, but dry - I am going to try a longer walk. I can already almost walk up the stairs like a normal person! Woo-Hoo!

I've already dropped 2 of the 11 prednisone pounds, YAY!

It will NOT show on my tracker until I get back to where I was before - silly maybe, but a point of pride, LOL. (we know where that leads.)

It's a good day. Hope everyone enjoys it!

Good job on the workout, Barb!

NancyPat, I hope you enjoyed your walk and band work.

My exercise for the day was a mad dash through the Charlotte airport to make a connecting flight due to weather delays. I managed to get to my gate just as they announced the final boarding call. That 3/4 mile walk in 12 minutes while dodging lots of people went very well!

I am so happy that everyone is doing well - I bailed on my pool time this afternoon. Got there and the rain was coming down in buckets and there was thunder and lightening - waited over an hour in hopes it would clear up - didn't so I came home - everything clear NOW but I am not driving back to town (more than half hour each way and 2 gallons of gas - once a day is MY financial limit). I deserve a day of rest though so I am not upset - so far this week I have a bajillion or so hours in the pool so I am going to settle for a walk as the temps are still cool, and then some band work inside.

Worked my you know what off at the gym this morning but I feel ok. It is a little warm now, but thankfully, it has cooled down at night.

Barbara, that's exactly right!

Now that the lower dose of prednisone is making its way through my body, I can already tell each day feels a little better. Muscles aren't so weak, joints don't all ache at the same time, I am still terribly tired, but at least I have some of my stamina back, whew. I don't wish that on anyone!

Had to move my MRI date out a few days to the 26th. Cross your fingers that all they find is some brain left, some eyeballs and my sinuses. We'll find out on July 2 when I meet with the neurologist again.

Until then, I actually feel like I could get out and get some walking in! Too bad it is about to thunderstorm for a day and a half!

Oh, Nancypat!! What it should mean and what it does mean, two different things!! Seriously, I am one of those people that like to do things in the morning--or not at all so the heat isn't a factor with going to the gym!

I know what you mean, Bonnie. As I have said, my knees are feeling much better, and I do believe it is because I have been doing exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee.

Jumpup, I hope the doctor gave you a great report yesterday.

I'm glad I'm leaving home tomorrow to go west. It's supposed to be in the mid 90s today and 100 here tomorrow. At least the highs in TN is only supposed to be in the 80s for the next few days!

My knees definitely react to the damp weather, and since we've been having a lot of rain here, they have been showing it. I have found that exercise does help, and bike riding is the one that seems to help mine a lot. I've also found that biking and strength training exercise for my knees done regularly often will help me reach the point that they don't bother me. It's when I don't get the exercise at least 3 times a week that I start having problems.

I made it to the gym and now I am "hiding" from heat. It is supposed to be high 80s for the next 5 days or more, so I am just planning on staying cool inside during the worst part of the day.

Tuesday afternoon.

Went to neurologist today - he thinks it's time to do the follow up MRIs to find out if the steroid therapy worked magic. If the inflammation hasnt gone completely away, then we talk about a biopsy.

Tell you what, wish I could fix my head as easily as I can work on my knees! And then soak 'em in a hot tub, LOL!

It's a gorgeous day here and I am fighting with my self over taking a nap (I am wiped out) or taking a brief walk! Whateve I decide, it'll be a great choice!

Have a good one

I have to qualify my statement - I workout long and HARD and then spend time in the warm therapy pool doing my stretches and walking for a "cool down" THEN, I take a hot shower, drive home and take my aspirin (one - for heart health and not specifically for pain but it DOES help avoid pain)

That is funny!

I find that moderation is really important when it comes to my various achy joints. And strengthening the quads and hamstrings has made a difference in my knees. Still, every so often, I do something that makes my knees just scream and have to start at the beginning!

No, getting old is NOT for sissies - but since we are getting YOUNGER not OLD, we can handle whatever comes our way. I am planning on a long pool visit today and hope to have a great workout - when I do that, my knees complain less.

Good Monday!

Couple years ago, I slipped on ice and wrenched my knee. Doc thought I might have dinged the meniscus. (I swear, I have had more things go wrong with me in the last several years!) Sent me to PT. Did a lot of thigh strengthening exercises and it really helps.

Then I read that one of the exercises she had me doing - sit in the machine, weight on your ankles, straighthen your legs at the knee to lift the weight - is SO BAD FOR YOUR KNEES!! Lunges and squats for me from now on.

But too many stairs and funky weather hits my knees (at least one of them), no matter how strong my thighs are! See the title of this Team? Getting old aint for sissies, LOL.

Have a great day!

My knees are bothering me for the first time in months - one of the men at church today said when the weather is muggy and/or humid he has trouble with his knees - That might account for mine today too. Hope everyone is having a fantastic Sunday - mine was really nice and I ended up at the pool after church.

Jumpup, I know how you feel with the knee pain. I had problems for several weeks, but it is finally subsiding. I have been doing exercises which seem to have made a significant difference. Oddly enough, it is a squat! The first few times, I could hear my knees crunch, but I am almost able to get down to an actual squat, and I can do stairs without wincing.

Sunday morning and you are all in my thanks-for prayers!

Great day dawning, good day to finish the laundry and get some stairs in (knees are killing me this morning, not good, gotta stretch 'em!)

I promised no "I"s, but I have finally dropped a half pound of my prednisone weight!! YAY! (9-1/2 to go, and then we get back to the real weight loss)
