Hi, I'm Jayati and I've just joined OA. I'm embarrassingly new at this and am in dire need of a sponsor.
I don't want someone who criticises, I need someone who will be supportive and will respond when I message God I want to eat "add whatever I'm craving at that particular moment".
Please, I really need help.

Hi, I am looking for a sponsor. I'm ready to start making changes. Looking for a loving and firm sponsor who believes in slow changes. I want to do this. However, all or nothing has never worked for me in any aspect of my life. Thank you for considering.
Blessings
Kelly

Hi,

There are many phone meeting also, they are great, especially if F2F meetings are hard to get to or they are not a good fit for you.

I'm so glad that you found some podcasts.

That is such a shame that you had a negative experience at your local group! I am very grateful that mine has been such a good experience for me, and I will let them know that at the next meeting!

There are also phone and online meetings, if you were not aware.

Thanks for sharing your story with us!

Speaking from a sponsor's perspective, one of my sponsees about a year ago, told me she thought that I was no longer a good sponsor for her and that she needed someone who sponsored in a different way. I wished her well, and told her that she was welcome to ask anyone she wished to be her sponsor, that she didn't owe me anything and that we had established at the beginning of our sponsoring relationship that each of us was free to walk away when needed.

Anyway, fast forward a few months, and she called me again, saying she needed me to sponsor her, that she was willing to work the program and be sponsored how I sponsor, since she was trying a different way that did not work, and she had relapsed.

She was embarrassed, but her embarrassment was less than her desire to get well. We are still working together now, and she is now abstinent for several months, and sponsoring people herself now.

If someone else ever asked me to sponsor them again (and I have a great many "ex-sponsees"), I would welcome them back with open arms. I'm sure that many from your meetings may feel the same.

Good luck to you!

Don't be ashamed or afraid of bridge burning. Every sponsor has had relapses and that is when you need them the most so they will understand what you are going through.

Have you been to online meetings? They have sponsors there also. If you go onto www. oa.org...you can find one that will suit your time needs too!

Hi. ..I've been in oa for awhile. ..2 years ago i had 9 months abstinence and lost 50 lbs...now I'm in relapse and gained all my weight back. .I've been listening to lots of l.a. oa podcasts!. ..Also in aa 3.5 years sober!

Wanting to start fresh with accountability.in took embarrassed and ashamed to ask anyone in my face to face meetings because I can't get past the shame of being in relapse and working with a handful of sponsors already...like I've burned bridges in a way.
