was doing more then I could keep up with and my body told me so I had to cancel one day and take a couple of day to catch up with myself. Did what I need to with my eating and exercising. I am sending my love and best wishes to all on this journey. For me this has been a slow and steady path to changing myself, I just keep putting one foot in front of the other until I reach my goal. It coming slow but I didn't put all of this excess weigh on over night. Pat

Meetings are such a blessing. I went to a in-person meeting last night. I had been having cravings and I prayed to make a healthy choice, I did not go tot he store to buy unhealthy/ binge foods, but kept my commitment to go tot he meeting. I am very blessed to have made that meeting, it really helped me.

Meeting are a wonderful tool!

I just hung up from being on the OA meeting phone line for 4 hours! I am grateful for the moderators and other members, including myself, who gave service for these meetings tonight. What a gift to be able to be able to have an OA meeting available anytime. My service only consisted of calling in, offering to and then reading the preamble, the 12 Traditions, sharing and listening but what I received was so much greater and for that I am again filled with gratitude. Anyway, I just wanted to share about phone meetings and what a blessing they are!

I found a wonderful morning OA phone meeting where we discuss the For Today book reading for that date among other things. It seems like a great meeting. I'm getting ready to call in now so gotta go. Have a great day everyone!

FAA (Food Addicts Anonymous) has a Plan of Eating on their website that has worked for me with a bit of modification. It might help those looking for some guidelines for a Plan of Eating.
I also used a non OA book by Kay Sheppard called Food Addiction: The Body Knows.
After years in relapse I've finally had to humble myself again and admit that A PLAN OF EATING is as important of tool for me personally as having a sponsor and attending meetings! It's been a lesson that took years of struggle in relapse and pain for me to except, so sad that I can be so blind to the truth of my compulsive overeating disease! It really is cunning, baffling and powerful. I am so grateful that OA has answers to my problems with food!

Hi Chrissy- have you attended a meeting? You can find in person, phone and online meetings found at OA website. I’m at the start of this -step 1. I’m starting with being active in this team, praying, listening to OA speakers app and attending AA mtg (OA is not active in my area- OA is a derivative of AA). Don’t give up.

No i do not. However i joined with one site that offer food plan according to your weight and i try to take some receipes from there in order to eat better manner.

KADRI777 have you seen a Dietitian? They may be able to help work a food plan that will work with your hypothyroidism.

A little late to the March Party but here! I am so looking forward to warmer weather. I live in Michigan which is an unpredictable weather state. I don't have a lot to say about March. I think I want to make this a grateful month? What do you think? It only has St. Patrick's Day and I think most of us have been dealing with this disease for so long that we need a month all by itself to be grateful.

I found this place when i googled about oa wb questions. I am emotional eater been in oa 7 years worked one round with steps and also trying to support myself via natural products due my hypothyroidism. Not found health issues related oa mtg yet.

This addiction is something that takes over our lives. The promises say that we can overcome the addiction if we are willing to take the steps and abstain from the addiction.

Hi. I'm a retread in OA. I've been on this board but not often. Recent health problems are mostly weight related and the consequenses are adding up. My doc was asking about a test I had a while back and she asked if it was when I lost weight. I told her I've been fat and skinny so many times I had no idea. When will I get this together?? My 70th birthday is this month and a gift from my doc was one more daily pill, blood pressure....ugh. Oh and don't get a perm when your depressed now I am old, fat and look like a poodle...LOL emoticon

Hi Helen and Unsurepat. I'm so glad you are both on the team. I would love to have you both active. This is a hard journey. I am at the beginning, I admit I am a compulsive overeater. Looking to take the next step. For now I am a praying daily, journaling occasionally and doing my best.

Hi there! I just joined the group. It seems you are the lone ranger for now! I have been reading Melody Beattie's books on codependency and that led me to the 12 steps for codependency which made me realize I also need to work on the 12 steps for overeating. I'm still in the reading phase and have not completely dived in. I'm working on the first step, but have not made an earnest commitment. I've been on Spark for many years but have not been active lately, feeling so little energy to do things. I homeschool my 5 kids. 2 of them are finished and working jobs, one as a waiter and one as a cashier. My 3rd child has some autism and just went through a year of severe depression and a suicide attempt. My other 2 are pretty happy and healthy. Many of us are overweight. My husband has struggled with depression and anxiety and anger for many years and has been on meds for 15 years. We went to a counselor in Jan. and he directed me to read Melody Beattie's books. I have stopped going to the counselor as I am learning so much just from my reading and have enough to process and work on for now. I'm in NJ. We're supposed to get a lot of snow today, but so far it has only been rain. :)

Tradition 3 states "The only requirement for OA is the desire to stop eating compulsively"

Are we using the membership to it's full benefit? Do we attend meetings? use the tools? take the steps? Are we reaching out to help others?

I find myself admitting to compulsively overeating- and not much else. Spring starts this month. A time when the earth is starting a new. What better time to commit or re-commit.

What does this tradition mean to you? What are you doing this month to recover?
