This week I am trying out different things on my treadmill to determine what a reasonable goal is without missing it.

I think 15 miles per week sounds fair, as today I did 2.3 miles in 31 minutes. Sometimes, time permitting I go for walks or use the treadmill at night also. emoticon

Well I did pretty good. My goal was to walk 31 miles this week and I got 21 miles. I know I would have made it but I got sidelined the middle of this week with a sprained ankle. It's feeling better now and I'm back on track for this week.

I'm feeling good. Mostly, my walks have been indoors with a walking DVD, but i did get outdoors on Monday and Friday. My weekly goal was to walk 25 miles/week and i managed to get 21 miles in this week! I'm good with this. After all it is a number that i made up and i aimed for it, missed, but i got very close. And this is my first week giving walking a try. I'm calling it good. emoticon

Just finished a 4 mile power walk in record time of 50 minutes. I am so happy right now but very hot and sweaty as well. The temperature outside is ideal for power walking and I loved it!

When I tried to speed it up in the end I started getting some chest pain ( I have mitral valve prolapse) but as my body got used to me pushing it, the pain subsided. .......and yes the doctor knows about this.

Congrats to all who have completed their daily goals and to those who haven't quite gotten there, just keepon plugging and it will happen for you too.

My goal was to walk 11 000 steps every day. Saturday was actually the first day in September that I managed to reach my goal. I have been struggling with heel pain and depression seems to be worse as well. I am hoping to go for a long walk tomorrow as well, hopefully things will get easier soon.

I've done well so far, walking every day except today. Today we got home after dark, so I used the elliptical for 30 min. I do want to keep up on the elliptical adn use it about 3 times per week, so this was a good start. So 4 days in and I haven't missed a day. Hopefully I can keep it up.

I don't know my miles for today because my walking today was walking around town and I did some popping into shops while I walked. I did park further from the shopping district than I normally do so I had to walk further. I was going to do my measured walk when I got home but my doctors appointment ended up lasting longer than I had thought and I still had some errands to run afterwards so by the time I got home it was to dark to walk (I walk in the woods, not safe). I'm back to measuring tomorrow.

It will get done. It will get done on time. It will be great.

I have been going on walks on my lunch break every day - usually up on the river trail behind the office, once through the office complex just to mix it up. Yesterday I couldn't get away for my lunch, so I made sure to take a walk in the evening through my neighborhood. I forgot how much I love my neighborhood - it's one of those places where everyone actually says hi to each other. And, I walked with my mom and my sister instead of listening to Harry Potter on my ipod. ;)

I just started the p90x workout also this week, and I think walking every day for 30 minutes has helped me SO much with not being as sore as I could be! Woohoo.

I use the heck out of the fitness map route planner. I usually map out a route before I leave home (I use the hybrid map), or pick a saved map, depending on how far I want to go that day or how many hills I want to climb. Then just click to calculate calories and add to the fitness tracker. There's also a good one on BeeWell miles. A few weeks ago we were away for the weekend, and when I got home, I mapped the walks we had taken from the hotel to restaurants, beach etc.
I do wear a pedometer all day to make sure I reach 10K, but my mileage is all figured on the route maps.

Things do not change; we change.

Well, I've walked over thirty minutes Sept. 1 and 2. I have to do it before work. It's so dark! But it feels good. Except for my bad knee. I hope that gets better.

It sounds like people are doing well. Good for us!

I am so happy right now. I started out to have a 4 mile power walk and ended up doing 5.5 miles instead and did it in 68 minutes.

I actually ended up going further because I needed water which I omitted to take with me. I walked to my daughters and she gave me a drink and money to get a bottle of water at the store. The one day I don't take water and it ends up being an extra hot and long one.

Lesson has ben learned....NEVER go without your water. emoticon

Got my walk in today. It wasnt much but I wanted to get some. I need a treadmill or elliptical. Maybe that will help me get more done with a 4 yr old and a boyfriend who works crazy hours. LOL!!!

I've been a very good girl!
Walked the first, had a fantastic run on the 2nd.
A little stiff here and there, but even that's feeling good.

I lost my pedometer, so I'm going for time instead of mileage.
Don't know if that's an option for anyone with pedometer problems... emoticon

My pedometer is officially broken b/c it's now not registering at all. I'm going to try getting a new battery today to see if that helps.

I'm having trouble with my walking goals! I tried to go for a walk last night, and I brought my dog along. I live in a rural area, and we were immediately bombarded by the roaming farm dogs, making it impossible to walk anywhere when there were two exuberant, enormous mountain dogs jumping all over us! Another day, I tried driving a little ways down the road to a normal street for walking, but the stray dog problem there was even worse! Not knowing those dogs made it scary. Now, my only option to get out and walk is to drive twenty minutes away to the walking path by the river. It's nice, but not what I want to do first thing in the morning, when there are chores to do around the house, or after work when I finally have a chance to spend time with my family, (they've vetoed the coming with me for a walk idea). Help!

I have a really silly question. Since we technically started this challenge on Tuesday, is Week 1 ending Saturday since that's the end of the week or is it ending Monday, with week 2 starting on Tuesday. I think that I'm just overthinking it.

For the ladies having trouble with milage on pedometers another great resource is mapmyrun.com which I use to death!! You can map any walk/run/cycle on it so long as the roads/streets/paths are on the street maps (I sometimes have to guess the route if I go off road!!) and the distance is worked out for you - no wastage of petrol/diesel needed!!

I followed up with 30 minutes of strength training and stretching.

Sometimes I wonder how good pedometers are. The past couple of days I've been wearing one all day. I'll walk about 10 steps and check it and half the time it's never right. Best advice is to pick out a route and drive it with your car to see how long it actually is and then you can be more accurate.

I haven't picked an actual goal yet. Since I recently found out that I have a bad knee (knee replacement somewhere in my future!) I have taken it easy on my legs. Part of my goal is to walk from 30-60 minutes per day along with the other exercises I have been doing.

I had trouble with my pedometer tonight too. I know what I did last night came to 2.2 miles and I did another 2 streets tonight, yet it came out to more. I think sometimes it only counts the right or left step, not both. Maybe I need it on a tighter section of my pants? But Slugger and I walked (with my fiance) I think about 2 1/2 miles tonight. Now I just have to guess since I know my pedometer was wrong.

Took the dog for a 1.5 mile walk tonight. My pedometer only registered 1 mile, though. I've measured that route out in the car so I know it's 1.5 miles. I must not have my pedometer calibrated just right.

5km (3 miles) today... it's not getting easier and I am not getting faster... but I am sticking with it! I need to think of a cardio activity for the alternate days. I enjoy walking on my non run days and I dont go as far, but I think I need to mix it up. Once the weather changes I won't have a choice. I am thinking aqua fit.

Will see what Thursday eve brings as that's my next day to go out and run/walk.

Good luck to everyone that is on this journey!!

I actually started on Aug. 30 because I had to work long hrs. on Sept. 1 and knew I wouldn't get in any other exercise besides work.
Aug. 30--3 miles jog and walk
Sept. 2--2 miles so far--we'll see what the rest of the day brings. Will be giving blood after kids get out of school. See how my energy level is.

I will also be walking today during lunch, but just a mild- don't push myself too hard walk. I am walking with a co-worker who is 7 months pregnant and she wants to take it easy.

Yesterday I walked 153 minutes approximately 6 miles and 16090 steps. I signed up for the walk accross America. Interesting how they do it.

Got my first day of walking in. I think I'll continue to walk this week, and then next week start working up to a run. Hmmmm.

Walked 1.4 miles yesterday, but that's .6 miles short of my daily goal. I hope to make that up throughout the week.
