Committing once again to honoring all meal gaps today. I am flirting with the idea of no snacks on the weekend too...don't know if that is wise. It's probably better to play it by ear and remind myself that, while snacks are available, it is not necessary for me to eat them. emoticon

Managed to go about 5 hrs between meals (all smallish) w/o suffering either excessive hunger or noticeable blood sugar drops. Major issues going on at home so not being hungry or low has been very helpful.

Peace out,
Mary S.

I hope you'll be willing to also post general reports of your progress on the "How are you doing with No S?" thread. We're a teeny team so it's nice to consolidate the effort! I can tell you from my experience on another thread that it takes only a small group of consistent posters sharing in one place to make a big difference.

I awoke early and have already been up for an hour. I do not want to eat early just because of that. I commit to waiting at least another hour before I have anything.

Did great yesterday - my first day with No S. Today my 'mind' was on lunch shortly after breakfast - ha! But I took care of that by getting busy with the yard work. Decided to come here first/post before 'doing lunch' ... allowing some more time to go by.

Last night my husband ate later than I did - that's usually a downfall for me ... I usually end up eating more even though I had a good dinner earlier. So - didn't want to do THAT! I made myself a hot cup of Cafix with a bit of soymilk added. Enjoyed it ... and got my mind off of HIS dinner!

Some struggling w/ the meal gaps, mostly out of fear of hypoglycemia after roughly 45 yrs of it.
I am disabled from occupational and diabetic damage; I worked nights for the last 10 yrs that I worked so we are still late risers. However, hubs (also disabled) insists on having dinner at as close to 6 pm as we can, so I have to plan the rest of my meals forward and backward from that. I very seldom want breakfast before noon; how soon I get hungry largely depends on how my fasting blood sugar is (diabetic now); the higher the sugar the longer it takes for me to get hungry. If I get hungry before dinner, a glass of milk (perfectly acceptable, doesn't count as Snack) works wonders. I am usually hungry again before bed so I will have a bowl of oatmeal or (better) one measured cup of lentil soup and a carton of low-carb yogurt for my third meal in the evening.

Still a work in progress.

Peace out,
Mary S.

I forgot to note my commitment today, but it was to honor the morning gap and the after dinner gap! It's now 4:00 pm, and the morning was good. So far the afternoon is on track as well. After dinner is very hard for me so we'll see how it goes!

I ended up eating dinner pretty early yesterday. I felt very antsy to eat, and I had wanted to have a longer fast overnight, but it was mostly about the antsy-ness. NOT a smart way to deal with a craving, but too late now! On track today.

Yes I did...I managed to keep very busy which I think is key. Today I am choosing not to indulge in a lot of "Esses" too. It's past 3:00 and so far I've only had my two plates. The lunch sandwich was a large one and I'm still comfortably full. Dinner is cooking in the slow cooker -ham and bean soup from the Easter ham leftovers. That along with bread will be enough for a good meal later I think.

I made it!!! Was quilting, and kept looking at the clock, but persevered and did not eat even though I did get hungry. It's a good exercise to do. I'm going to do the same today, even though it's a weekend, but not skip the other S. emoticon

Ladies, I gently suggest you have a plan for some drink in the late afternoon that can tide you over if necessary. I used decaf mocha with stevia IF I actually felt very hungry around 4-ish. If not hungry, I toughed it out, and it WAS still tough because I still wanted to eat even though I wasn't actually hungry. (I still do sometimes even now, after the students leave...) I would eat dinner around 6, and that drink still let me get hungry by then. Of course, something like tea or plain coffee with no fixin's is even better, but I didn't like tea and hate black coffee. Also possibly have some plan for how to spend your time then, something you have access to that you know can usually keep you occupied. (I could leave work and shop for clothes. At home, it was me and TV or the internet.) Lastly, if needed, try to remind yourself then that you want very much to break this habit, and that if you give in, it will make the habit stronger. NOW is the time to weaken that habit!

Oh, I hope I'm not being too preachy! I'm just excited for you!

I'm on vacation so am allowing myself morning coffee, but I commit to nothing but no-calorie drinks or water this afternoon until at least 5:30 p.m. when I may have a decaf before a dance class at 6:30.

SF, don't mean to make this too public, but I'm curious why you are choosing to have any starchy carbs, though I've heard of people with similar health problems going vegan high starch and reversing things. But I also know a former fellow Zen student, vegetarian, who finally tried LCHF and completely reversed a painful autoimmune condition that had him very inactive and chunky for years, getting progressively worse before he went commando on starches. He stuck with it, became a cyclist, and now spears an occasional lunch in the ocean and says he has been known to snack on pure butter. Though No S is relaxed about what to eat, it isn't against regimes if they are in essence medicinal. Or perhaps you went that route with results that didn't justify the sacrifice involved. I could definitely grok that. In any case, great work on meal gaps!

Keep piling up these morning wins, Cat. Only one more day to go before S days. And no obligation to snack on those mornings, either.

SF, consider trying to unhook the sense that negative emotions are going to automatically lead to overeating. Our brains love to look for explanations but the bottom line is that you put a lot of food on your plate and ate it. That's not a crime, but not in keeping with your big picture. How did you know it was way too much? Did you feel extra full and would you like to avoid that? Do you just know it's not reasonable to serve yourself so much food, and as matter of simple rationality, realize you'd rather not do that? No drama needed, but a little planning for next time, as resentment is sure to come again. It CAN'T be in charge!

But you accomplished your meal gaps! Since that's the topic of this thread, a TOTAL success!

Breakfast to lunch is the goal today!

I made it! I was really, really tempted to make my lunch a "diet" one. I caught sight of myself accidentally in a mirror this morning...

However, I knew that if I ate a plate of only veggies I'd be starving in a couple of hours and cave in to eating before dinner time, so I ate a decent lunch with plenty of protein and some fat to carry me through.

Fantastic thread--more excellence from Oola, the voice of wisdom and experience.
I did well w/ my three plates yesterday, mostly b/c the second was WAY too full. Had to confront my emotional eating, this time from stuffed-down anger over Lardash still expecting to have his dinner served after I got the components out and told him that I had after I had done all of that yard work yesterday (pain is awful today but I will rest instead of medicate) while he slept until 3 p.m.--made the dinner out of heat-and-eats, had a wee nip of Captain Morgan so I wouldn't crack the plate over his head, THEN told him "what I had in mind was..." so, will draw the appropriate pictures next time. I feel totally trapped now, which tends to make me almost panicky.
Anyway, eating over emotions is how I got up to 245 lbs and ruined my health; the 50 lb loss has helped some things but not others. Doctor told me "more protein and less carbohydrate" so starting that as of today; the increased protein should help keep the gaps manageable.
Thank you all for your patience.

Peace out,
Mary S.

Yesterday was a strain waiting for lunch, and I probably overdid it on lunch, since I didn't eat what I brought in.
Today will be better, hopefully. Trying not to let stress rule over my head.

Cat, all you have to do for this thread is commit to ONE snack-free gap between any two meals. (Total green days- all S's- are another goal and victory, but not necessary here.) Which gap do you choose today? emoticon

Update. Friend postponed the meeting until later; food unlikely. I will have a meal before we meet but I still commit to waiting before I have it. Tea until then.

I'm meeting a friend later and want to wait to have food with her. I commit to have tea and wait to eat.

I decided to do just that after Easter - so far I'm one and one.

Today I commit to no snacks between meals.

Here is a thread where you can come when you are struggling between meals and commit to waiting until the next meal. Then come report if you made it or not.
