emoticon Hi Everyone. First day ... I am determined to wait until 6pm (four hours between lunch and dinner) before my third plate of the day. Not easy - feeling a bit shaky right now.

I did it! I did my walking for the hour, so successfully got to lunch without eating between meals AND got my exercise done too. A win/win. And yes, lunch tasted SO good!

Well, it is only 10:45 and I am starving for lunch already with a grumbling stomach. I've already had an extra cup of coffee. My breakfast was "as usual" and I'm drinking lots of water. So ... I commit to staying out of the kitchen, finding something to take my mind off of food, and having an enjoyable lunch at noon (without bingeing!). Here I go ... and I will report back on how it all turned out. .... I am strong ... I CAN do this!

Surprised but happy that I was able to manage 4-5 hr gaps yesterday, especially since it was my first day back. Will start timing after my first feeding, which tends to be late (old nightowl habit).

Peace out,

Feeling vulnerable. I commit to waiting until 5:30 p.m. or later to eat anything. Tea or latte with stevia ok.

Too-small meals means more of them, especially since I can't handle going to bed hungry. Long day yesterday; ended up w/ 4 smallish meals gapped 4-5 hrs apart so gaps went well. Plans for 3 bigger meals today, also w/ 4-5 hr gaps.

Peace out,
Mary S.

Back on track due to more divine intervention--was stuck at car dealership for 4 hrs yesterday getting a wiring repair (would you believe rodent damage?) but was able to tolerate the almost 7-hr meal gap after breakfast just fine w/ lots of water--refused to succumb to any snack food or Diet Coke. Had a sandwich on the way home, then didn't have any more food for about 5 more hours. Can't believe I did it, especially since it started out completely unplanned.

Now feeling very confident about managing my N days next week; my best to all.

Peace out,
Mary S.

Divine intervention--did just fine w/ 3 well-gapped meals, especially w/ the help of a pain pill that tends to decrease my appetite. Bedtime now; dinner was about 4.5hrs ago and not hungry at all.
Hoping for a similar day tomorrow and even on Friday while on the road.

Peace out,
Mary S.

So far so good--had that CAT scan today ("complex cystic mass" so trip to specialist is next) so had to have breakfast much earlier than usual but STILL made about 4 1/2 hrs between breakfast and lunch then about 5 hrs between lunch and dinner. Feeling an early bedtime coming on so committing to no more food until morning.

Peace out,

Idiocy d/t emotional upset combined w/ very-rarely-available Sweets this weekend led to too-high blood sugar today, so will have first meal at about 2 p.m. after PCP appt then committing to having dinner no earlier than 6; maybe 7 after the news is over. Will report back.

CJ, please consider copying and pasting this to the How are you doing? thread where more members will likely see it. This thread is just for declaring that you will wait until your next meal, whenever it is, any time you're feeling especially weak. Hope it's okay to say that!

ON that note, nothing until late lunch after 3 pm. (I think I made it the last time I declared here; I forgot to report back) I'll be on the road so may not report until much later.

I love lighthouses, and we have none in Oklahoma.

This is only my second day, but I have to say not eating a snack after dinner was a little different, but not so bad I could not make it. I'm trying to stick to a 4 1/2 to 5 hr gap to start, I'm not use to that much time because I've always been told to only wait 3 to 4 hrs, but I think this is a new habit that I will like when I get use to it. I am a diabetic type 2, so after a few weeks I'm going to try 5 to 6 hr gaps. I drink water, decaf tea and coffee black and use lemon and lime in my water. I've been off any kind of soda or pop now including diet soda for about 3 years now.

Guess I better get off here for now: CJ from OK. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon ( Arm waving it does a body good.) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have been explaining/typing too much out of an old self-defense habit. Committing today to a minimum 4 hr gap between brunch (no appetite until 2 pm d/t migraine) and dinner then 4 more hrs minimum until a cup of soup and some yogurt. Three appropriate, well-gapped meals.
As for husband, insert slang anatomical term here.

Peace out,

What are you committing to today, SF? Are you not eating until the one-dish meal? I gently say this thread is for committing to a specific gap today, preferably the one you're involved in right now, because you presently feel vulnerable or because you know it's been a tough gap in the past and you're trying to make it a habit. Maybe you mean you are committing to the gaps before and after dinner, since you're not worried about getting from breakfast to lunch?

Being specific about it helps distinguish from just the general commitment to the general guidelines of three one-plate/bowl meals with no sweets on N days. emoticon

I commit now to nothing except stevia mocha/latte until lunchtime.

The best-laid plans....planned on a 5-6 hr gap between brunch and dinner, only to have it turn into more than 8 (had only a glass of milk after about 4) b/c husband took over kitchen before I could get my sides made. Enjoyed dinner but blood sugar crashed anyway, leaving me ravenous the rest of the evening ending w/ a Red day fro Sweet even after all of my planning. Making a one-dish meal for tonight so hopefully today will go much better.

Peace out,
Mary S.

Glad you made it!

This is kind of turning into another discussion thread instead of being just a place to commit and report yes or no. There is real value in having places to be very simple, and other places to be more reflective. I can tell you from other teams that tend to fizzle out that it is better to keep the pertinent discussions concentrated in as few places as possible. Any chance if you want to say more than just, "I commit to waiting until lunch" and "Made it." , that you go to the "How are you doing thread?" That way, the experiences get shared by more people at a time. In that vein, I"m going to respond about your experience there.
(I hope I'm not being a turn off! I want people to feel comfortable here, but I also want to keep the energy concentrated for all our sakes'.)

I'm going to repeat my commitment to make it to breakfast not earlier than 5:30 a. m.

OOLALA - what an excellent supportive post! emoticon

I did make it! (Surprised me!) It was HARD. I wish I had read this post earlier (although I'm not clear on timing at the moment anyway).

I did eat a very LARGE lunch however ... now I'm not hungry at all for dinner. Maybe in another hour or so I might be. I do not want to eat unless I am hungry. But it makes it a long time till breakfast tomorrow - ha! Lunch is supposed to be my 'main' and largest meal anyway. I might fix my husband salad, grilled cheese sandwich and some soup for dinner and I'll just sip a bit of the soup.

Thanks for reminding me that the urges are uncomfortable but HARMLESS! You'd think it was the worse thing ever happening to me when feeling it - ha! NOT! Not really ... by a long shot!

Thanks for your support - and here's to making those prefrontal cortex connections!!!!!!!!!!! emoticon

Don't know if you made it, but I gently suggest you stop telling yourself that any of those things can make you eat. They have NOTHING to do with needing food. The best way to cut the link is to HOLD ON as many times as possible in spite of the intense urges. The urges are terribly uncomfortable but HARMLESS, while the eating IS harmful! Somewhere, you are telling yourself that it's okay to eat, that you'll either somehow win the gamble or even that you just don't care. But that is not the REAL you thinking. That is the strong neural pattern, the one that doesn't care a bit about your health problems. Assert the real you! Make those prefrontal cortex connections, the ones that can become SO much stronger than the underlying structures that drive non-life-affirming habits.

Gap by gap!

On that note, I will not eat again until breakfast. (I used to frequently convince myself after drum class that a bean burrito was a good idea, even after dinner. NOT!) off to drum class.

I'm struggling to hang on till lunch. I guess the 'stress' of our car breaking down, the $$$ fixing vs. budget/savings, etc. I 'thought' I was handling sooooo good Sunday and Monday must have been 'lurking' in the background and has me on edge/nervy today. Plus, the fact I have not slept well for several nights (only 4-5 hours and up/down - not straight through).

Normally, I would have eaten myself out of house and home so to speak ... going for sweets or ANYTHING for that matter. Today I've had breakfast ... and holding on till lunch ... not that far away but trying to wait a little longer.

Fixed a cup of raspberry zinger tea to drink out on the lanai and came out with computer so I could post ... then plan to get busy watering garden ... petting my dog/trying to type at same time ... looking into her sweet face is helping ... after all - SHE has to wait till lunch too - ha!

It IS a beautiful sunny, breezy day ... that's better to enjoy than food right!? (Trying to talk my way through this - ha!)

Haha!! Yes! I'd rather eat the whole grapefruit than the whole bag of chips which I've also been known to do!! emoticon

Too little protein got me too, over the weekend. I had oatmeal and slices of cantaloupe and honeydew, and within a half hour I was hungry again. This morning I had egg whites, and had no problem waiting for lunch.

I smiled when I read that you ate "the whole grapefruit". Could have been so much worse, right?

Since you say you suspect part of it was resentment, it sounds like it may not have been real hunger. It's very helpful to see the difference because fake hunger cannot be satisfied by adding any food to meals or other times, but small slips don't end the process. Gap by gap, meal by meal!

I have decided to delay breakfast until the first break time at work. Committing here now.

I suspect too little protein at lunch was a contributing factor, plus I suddenly felt like No S was just one more system of restriction. To paraphrase what you've so wisely pointed out in the past, however, No S isn't easy, but it's better than any of the alternatives! My weekend wasn't totally out of control, and I'm glad for that. Here's to a moderate week.

Why do you think you were so hungry with three hours left to dinner? That WOULD be hard to take. Remember that you can have beverages and they don't HAVE to be calorie-free, though sugar soda is probably a bad idea. Regular milk or nut milks on their own or in coffee or tea are options. They saved me many times.

As best I recall I was hungry, and tired of being hungry, with 3 hours to go until dinner. I actually felt kind of angry that I haven't been all that successful in establishing new habits, that I restricted so severely in the past that I have created this food obsession for my present, and that a grapefruit in my current world is considered a failure. At least I got some good nutrition out of my lapse!

It happens. At least crash-the-car didn't take over. Can you remember what you were saying to yourself at the time? Is there a calm comeback you could use next time? Or will avoiding regret work? Kelly McGonigal, queen of studying willpower, says that shame after the fact is counterproductive but wanting to avoid shame in the future works! Quirky sounding, but true.

I failed yesterday...that grapefruit in the fridge got the best of me in the afternoon when my stomach was rumbling...I ate the whole thing.

Cat, thanks for letting me know you made it on 4/20! Hope you let that feeling of victory sink in.

I commit to another 20 minutes. I'm feeling like picking or jumping the gun, but I think it wouldn't be wise. I finished lunch a little late and have no good reason not to honor the gap.
