Two hours ago:

Varner spoke to Entertainment Tonight about losing his job, saying that he was fired in "what I felt was an ugly, knee-jerk reaction kind of way." He claimed his employer didn't give him the opportunity to explain the controversial decision that ultimately led to his firing.

"I wasn't even given the chance to explain or right the wrong," he told the outlet. "In the real estate world, buyers and sellers want to know they're signing up with a company that won't dump them or turn their backs on them in time of trial. So I'm talking to several firms now that I know will care about and believe in their employees. I have had several reach out [and] I'm confident I'll find a better home."

The former news anchor told ET that he found out he was terminated from his job via email while doing press for Survivor on Thursday. "Suddenly my real estate license was inactive and my current clients [were] left in the dark," he said. "It took hours after my press junket to get anyone with the company on the phone to tell me personally, and even longer to calm my clients, all of whom, by the way, are coming with me to my new firm."

Varner added, "It was an ugly day. My former boss told me that I was in a news story they wanted nothing to do with. ... I was devastated."

I'm very sorry to hear that about Jeff. He doesn't deserve that. Very misguided choice by his employers, I believe.

And now the articles are about Jeff being fired. I don't believe that is right. This has nothing to do with his job!

According to the Greensboro News & Record, Varner was fired Thursday from Allen Tate Realtors saying that he was told by his employer that he was "in the middle of a news story that we don't want anything to do with." Evidently he was a fairly recent hire too.

There is so much press about the show and Zeke, articles in all the media and even People Magazine. I know it was a few months from when it really happened, so there has been time to put together all the media frenzy about the show and Zeke.
I'm still amazed at what happened and tribal.
But Zeke seems to be doing very well (at least in the press, magazines, etc.)

from Parade Magazine

Several months after the act, and one morning following the episode’s airing, a very shaken and emotional Varner spoke with Parade about his final night in the game.

Wigler: How are you feeling, Jeff?

Varner: (Long pause.) Emotional. Horrible. This is horrible. I know that you’re fair and honest, so I’m going to just let it out to you. This is horrible. (Choking up.) Sorry. I’m going to be emotional. It’s going to be an awful day. I need to get my tissues here, because it’s horrible. I know there might be questions about me and where I am and what I’m doing and how I’m feeling. I’m turning this into a positive. I’m doing great stuff in the future, and I hope you’ll give me time in the future to talk about it. Everything I have to talk about today must be about Zeke and his safety and his peace and all of that. I made a mistake. A huge mistake. I realize it. I honor it and I acknowledge it. It was an awful thing to do. I just want to make sure nobody in this world ever does what I did. This interview just has to be about Zeke.

Wigler: And where do you want to start with that?

Varner: Zeke’s a wonderful human. He’s absolutely fantastic. I hurt him. I hurt those who love him. His friends have harassed me all night long. I’ve been called every name in the book. I get it. When we’re in pain, when we’re in fear, we’re a dangerous people, and we often do and say the wrong things. Zeke forgave me that night. I’ve spoken to him several times since then. He’s continued to forgive me. He’s said and done wonderful things. I don’t know who’s gotten in his ear, but he’s in a different place today… and I respect that. I give him every bit of space to fire off and act toward me however he must. If he wants to take swings at me, I’m the one who will hand him the bat. I deserve it. I love him. I just pray and hope for his safety. What I did that night was horrible. I opened him up to discrimination and to danger and to crime. Everything horrible. I robbed him of his ability to be… I hope he can eventually grow to a place where he can comfortably be not only his authentic self, but help others be that. But right now, I’m just devastated at what I’ve done to him and his family. I make no excuses. There are no excuses for what I did. Not at all. There were many things at play and lots going on that brought us to that that moment. It was a two-hour Tribal that was edited to 20 [minutes]. There’s so much you don’t see.

Wigler: Did the Tribal you watched last night align with the Tribal you remember?

Varner: Kind of. They had to do what they had to do and it had to be the way it had to be. There were things that were edited out that would have explained things a bit better. As much as I was dreading my emotional breakdown — I melted down for an hour, and all of that was edited out. Every single person at that Tribal with the exception of Sarah stood up and hugged me and forgave me and told me they know it’s not in my heart. All of that is edited out. But the most important thing is Zeke forgave me. That’s the best I can deal with. I mean, I haven’t been able to live with this for so long. (Choking up.) It’s just been so difficult. I couldn’t even think about me and my life for months after it was over with. It was one hundred percent about Zeke and what I’ve done to him and his family. It’s just horrible. It was a horrible thing. And I was wrong. I’m good to people. I’m not that horrible person so many are trying to paint me to be today. I have to rely on the fact that the people who truly know me and love me know that.

Wigler: Did you ever bring any of this up with Zeke privately, before Tribal Council?

Varner: No. Not directly. He said lots of things and did different things, and I had inklings, and I suspected it very early on for various reasons. I didn’t know who Zeke was. I kept going back to Samoa and Heroes vs Villains. When Russell showed up in Samoa, when he did what he did in his season… he was horrible, evil, hateful, everybody hated him — just a mean nasty person — and he turns right around and goes to Heroes vs Villains. None of those Heroes vs Villains knew who Russell was. They hadn’t seen his season. Sandra told me that he showed up to the airport carrying a bible. Russell was working to deceive people. When I saw Zeke, I didn’t know who he was. I asked, “Who are you? What did you do to get here? You’re something much more than we think.”

It heightened my inspection of him. All through pre-game, I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. In the game, no matter where I was, talking strategy with everybody, Zeke was always popping up. It was clear to me that this guy is a player. When we’re laying on the beach talking, he was lying to me about what they were doing. It was confirmed for me in watching the show. You see us buddy-buddy, and that we’re partners, but it wasn’t the reality. He was lying to me and playing me. That whole deception card was not about trans. It was not about that. That’s the hardest part for me to swallow today. (Choking up.) That’s one of the stigmas that the trans community faces most, that people think they’re deceptive and awful humans who are lying to everybody. I hate that that’s what’s coming out of this, because that’s not what I meant.

But because Tribal was edited down so small, you don’t see that. Editing connected dots that weren’t connected in reality in that moment, and I get why they did that and had to do that. But I was arguing the deception of the alliance. There was a hidden alliance. You don’t see the conversation I had with Ozzy where he told me he was in an alliance with Zeke and Andrea. That’s where I got the idea to use that secret alliance as a tool. Editing doesn’t show any of that. You don’t really get it. As I’m explaining to people in Tribal about that, Zeke pops up and says there are no deceptions. Jeff’s lying. I’m not deceiving anybody. And out of my mouth, it came. I wasn’t in control in that moment. I didn’t even hear it come out of my mouth. It took me a minute. I’m trying to argue people: “That’s not what I’m talking about!” Editing doesn’t help me in that arena, and that’s unfortunate. Jeff told me at Tribal: “Varner, I’ve known you for 20 years. I know you’re not that person. You don’t have a hateful bone in your body.” That didn’t make the editing. Every single person at Tribal stood up and hugged me. I got forgiveness and compassion from everybody. None of that’s there. It was hard to watch.

At the same time, none of this is about me. I’m not angry at that. What this has done is unleash a conversation that will hopefully be good for all of us and lead us in a great direction. We have to stop as a society discriminating against trans people and minimizing and separating from them. We have to acknowledge their humanity. These are dignified people. We need to lift their voices and help them and not reduce them to body parts and surgeries and things that objectify and dehumanize them. These are wonderful people who are not only trying to live their authentic lives, but thrive. And I think stupid bathroom bills and things like that, especially in the state of North Carolina… it’s not about bathrooms. It’s about whether trans people have the right to exist in public. Our leaders are trying to erase trans people from society. It’s absolutely horrible. I hate that I’m a tool some of them will use. I’m just devastated over that.

In the future, I have a plan. I have action. I’m involved in doing stuff. I want to tell you about that in the future. But today’s not the day for that. Today’s a day for me to send that message: trans people are wonderful, and we should never, ever, out anybody. No matter who they are or where they are. Everybody has their own personal journey. When we do that, we stigmatize them. We shame them. We push them back into a closet. It’s the opposite of what we should be doing. Outing is an assault, and I assaulted Zeke that night. It’s very difficult to live with. It’s a hard thing for me to live with.

Look what I just found online about Zeke. I certainly never would have known!

"Zeke Smith is known for making some big moves on ‘Survivor,’ but the bravest thing he’s done wasn’t so public. The reality star just revealed that while in college, he transitioned".

Here’s everything else you need to know about him.

He’s been on two seasons of ‘Survivor.’
At 28, Zeke joined Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen X. While he was technically a Millennial, he admitted in his interview and multiple times throughout the season that he never felt like one. He’s definitely an old soul. He was eliminated on Day 33, but definitely made a huge impact on the game. So, it wasn’t much of a surprise when he returned for season 34, Game Changers.

He was outed as transgender during season 34.
Zeke, now 29, revealed in a new interview that during the April 12 episode taping, a contestant on the show outed him. “I didn’t want to be the ‘first transgender Survivor star,’” Zeke Smith told PEOPLE. “I’m not ashamed of being trans, but I didn’t want that to be my story. I just wanted to go out on an adventure and play a great game.”

Zeke Smith Pics
Zeke always dreamed of playing Survivor.
Game Changers was clearly incredible for Zeke, as he revealed on Instagram that he actually donated to Sandra‘s Reality Rally campaign and “the queen” sent him an autographed photo! “I’ve dreamed of starving on desert beaches and running around in my unwashed underwear for years! It’s long been my desire for Jeff Probst to reward my mastery of lying and manipulation with $1 million dollars,” he also told CBS.

He’s BFFs with Hannah from season 33.
Ever since being on the show together, Hannah Shapiro and Zeke are seriously BFFs. They have a running joke on their Instagram accounts that they’re romantically involved; he even posted a photo of her being proposed to. “December 17th, 9 pm, Pacific Standard Time. From here on in, I shoot with this girl on my hip. Happy Valentine’s Day, fiancé,” he wrote adding “#Heke.”

He thinks he 100 percent has what it takes to win.
“I’m tough as nails. Try and tear me down,” he said in his CBS interview when he first was cast on the show. Clearly, he proved that the first time, since he was brought back for another season.

As much as I enjoy the young players, I watch FOR the older players!
LOL, 32 year old Melinda on the "older woman" tribe.

I think it's a great cast line up. I'm thrilled that Tony is back, I enjoyed watching him play his season so much.

Here's an article by Entertainment Weekly regarding the age thing:

Being a network television show, Survivor has always given a somewhat skewed view on age. Back in the Panama season, you had 32-year old Melinda Hyder on the “older women” tribe. 32!!! But those that pay close attention have noticed that casts of returning player seasons do tend to be a bit older than all-new outings. Obviously, some of that is because those returning players have aged a bit since their first time out, but there is no doubt that the contestants being asked to come back generally, on the whole, tend to be a bit older than your average twentysomething hotties that populate most seasons.

That discrepancy can be found once again with the upcoming Game Changers season (premiering March 8). So we asked Survivor host Jeff Probst why somewhat older contestants — again, this is all relative — tend to be more likely to be brought back to play again, and he not only has a theory, but he also revealed that it plays into his negotiation with the network, CBS, when they have to agree on whom to select. “Honestly, I think because the older players are more seasoned in life,” says Probst about older returning players being more interesting and therefore more likely to be brought back. “And it’s sometimes a battle with the network, because they want youth, and I’m often in the office saying, ‘But, this is a better player. I don’t care if they’re 30, 40, 50, or 60. Who’s the best player?’”

Probst acknowledges that there was a lot of producer–network back and forth about the latest cast. “There was a lot of battling for people in this season,” he says. “We wanted 100 percent unity on our cast. That was the agreement we made. So that meant there were people battling for their person. ‘I want this person on!” Well, then you better convince everybody. Varner, we had to convince CBS. Ozzy, CBS had to convince us. That’s the truth. And I like that because we hold each other accountable. We all care about this game and we want to make it great, so let’s challenge each other.”

The truth of the matter is that younger people (of both sexes) are more likely to be picked to compete because they look good in a bathing suit, while older people are more likely to be chosen because of their personality, which means they tend to be more dynamic to watch. But Probst also believes that experience of life naturally makes people more interesting once they put some additional miles on the odometer. “I think when you look at the history of this game, it’s much harder to be Zeke’s age and have a real impact, than it is to be Sandra’s age,” says the host. “They’ve been a parent, they may have had ordeals and obstacles to overcome in life, and they have a different perspective. And I’m not afraid of age anymore. Maybe because I’m old.”

In Survivor years, isn’t everybody?

there was an article on yahoo today about how Jeff had to fight to have the older players on this season, His point was that the older players know how to play and have life experience. I totally agree some of these young players do not do that well. But Will and Julia did decent jobs most young players do not. I am so looking forward to this new season and it getting closer just two more hunted before it begins.

The two tribes of Survivor 2017 will be named Mana and Nuku and early details have confirmed previous spoilers detailing just who will have to start out sharing a camp, but that doesn’t mean they all have to get along!

There’s no hiding which way the Survivor premiere will split things up when the Game Changers season starts up on March 8, 2017. We’ve got 20 castaways and 10 of them on each tribe. Here’s who we’ll see working to build a camp that very first night.

“Mana” Tribe:
Michaela Bradshaw
Aubry Bracco
Sandra Diaz-Twine
Ciera Eastin
Malcolm Freberg
Hali Ford
Caleb Reynolds
Troyzan Robertson
Jeff Varner
Tony Vlachos

Oh my. I mean these are all supposed to be big personalities in the Survivor legacy with the whole “Game Changers” theme but wow these tribes are going to be fun to watch with all the headbutting going on at that camp. Not that the other tribe looks like a campfire of harmony either though.

“Nuku” Tribe:
Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth
Cirie Fields
James “J.T” Thomas
Debbie Wanner
Andrea Boehlke
Tai Trang
Brad Culpepper
Sarah Lacina
Sierra Dawn-Thomas
Zeke Smith

I wasn't expecting another season until the summer! So glad it will be back so soon.
Can't wait for all of the changes.... the writers of this show sure know how to switch things up!
That's what makes it as great as it is, I think! All of these years and it hasn't worn thin.

The full cast list for Survivor: Game Changers has finally been officially revealed. Twenty returning players will be doing battle for the title of Sole Survivor and the million-dollar prize that comes with it.

Host Jeff Probst had previously announced eight of the competing players — Sandra Diaz-Twine, Tony Vlachos, Cirie Fields, Ozzy Lusth, Ciera Easton, Tai Trang, Caleb Reynolds, and Michaela Bradshaw — at the end of the Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X reunion show, but now we have the complete set. Sandra and Tony will not be the only previous winners to appear, as Tocantins champ J.T. Thomas will also be on the island. Meanwhile, Michaela is not the only Millennial who returned to the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji just a few short weeks after her first outing to film back-to-back seasons, as Zeke Smith also pulled double duty, bringing his mustache and wonderfully tacky shirt collection with him.

Rounding out the cast are Andrea Boehlke, Malcolm Freberg, and Jeff Varner (all appearing for the third time), as well as two-timers Aubry Bracco, Brad Culpepper, Sierra Dawn-Thomas, Hali Ford, Sarah Lacina, Troyzan Robertson, and Debbie Wanner. (Cirie and Ozzy now join Boston Rob Mariano and Rupert Boneham as the only players to compete on four different seasons.)

Probst told EW on location during filming the thinking behind the Game Changers twist: “The last few years we’ve had so many new players that were good players, and the game has continued to escalate in terms of the level of gameplay that it suddenly became apparent that we actually have a lot of great game players,” says Probst. “And so we’ve had this abundance of players now, and we felt like we had enough where we could go old school with a guy like Varner and Sandra and Cirie, and also go as recently as Millennials vs. Gen X with somebody like Zeke or Michaela. It just felt right. And I love the name. I thought the name was a really good brand. It brings up questions. Some people are going to say, ‘All of these people didn’t make game changing moves.’ No, they didn’t. But they were willing to make a move that might change the game. And if you’ve ever played Survivor, you know the difference.”

Probst also spilled secrets about a big change when it comes to hidden immunity idols this season, one that could throw even veteran players for a loop. “Given that it is Game Changers, we’re going to change the game constantly. So when it comes to idols, there will be no consistency,” says the host. “Usually there’s a theme. You have to find them in a certain way or work a certain amount of effort to get it. Not this time. One might drop in your lap, one might be at Tribal, one might be at the bottom of the well, one might be at a challenge. It depends how often idols get played for how far down the list we’ll get. Because if idols are held until the end, then we won’t see anything and we’ll use them next year. But if things go well and people start playing their idols — which I think will happen — it could be a really fun and crazy adventure to watch them and what they have to do to get them.”

The good news for these contestants is that this particular adventure should not see the extreme weather of Millennials vs. Gen X (which was filmed on the same beaches), since Game Changers was filmed in June and July of 2016, traditionally the driest months of the year.

While I strongly dislike having previous players play yet AGAIN and AGAIN...I am also excited to see some of my favorites get another chance. Malcolm, Caleb=yummy lol. But there are several that I would love to see win besides the man candy :)
