Benefits of Morning Cardio and Evening Weights

Time is usually of the essence for people. In most cases, workouts are based around one’s day. In rare cases (people with the time to do so), the day is based around one’s workout. With that being said, some people have the time to work out in the morning and the evening. These “two-a-days” are uncommon for many, but for some they are a reality. 
When it comes to two-a-day workouts, some people attempt to lift twice a day. The downside to this approach is the body not having enough recovery time. If the body is not recovering properly, progress can be halted and even reversed, which could lead into overtraining. Overtraining has a multitude of issues beside stalling progress. 
Morning is an awesome time to get cardio in, especially cardio on an empty stomach. By doing some low moderate intensity cardio on an empty stomach, you are burning primarily fat. 
Cardio is great of course for fat loss, but also is good for (you guessed it) your cardiovascular system. Morning cardio will also help set the pace for your eating for the day by keeping your metabolism in check. Finally, by getting cardio done in the morning, it leaves more time for you to lift weights in the evening. 
Looking at lifting weights in the evening, there are some cognitive (mental) advantages. When you work out in the evening, the body is awake and rolling. The brain has been talking to the body the whole day, so communication is better established. What does this mean for you? It means you will feel a little more encouraged and mentally focused to lift. This of course means more intense and effective workouts. And remember, no need for cardio because you already did it this morning. So you can be more intent with the content of your lifting. 
So, if you find yourself with the time and ability to get a two-a-day workout in, keep the cardio for the morning and the lifting for the evening. This seems to be the best utilization of time and physical capabilities, because you are taking what the body is giving you for that day and using it for your gain.

Hello team!

Just a short message.

I am going to be on Sparkpeople today, then work.

Lately, I have been thinking about setting up a daily appointment for exercise. I am not a morning person, so probably around 5:00pm or so would be good. It is not "when" you exercise...just get it done!

Following, I am so wondering why not one person is joining my pro-life team. It is not some political activist team. It is simply a team to pray for those who cannot. Totally harmless and non-violent. Would you think about joining?

On the job front, I ordered Writers' Market from the library 3 weeks ago and is still not in. I want to find magazines accepting book reviews. I am good at book reviews and would not mind doing them for money. It is still freelance work, though. I would love to have a job doing on-line weight loss coaching. Still not giving up!

Today, I am drinking warm water with lemon to cleanse. uuugh

Hey team!

During the past 2 days, I have been job searching. I just cannot find the right job. There just has not been one that is a perfect fit. I have looked at sales, blogging, writing, editing, book reviewing and on and on. I still dream of having a fitness and nutrition job. I applied to a company called WeightNot, but never heard from them, other than an e-mail stating that they got the application.

A few days ago, I went over tons of writing prompts, of which were basically useless. I got even more writers' block!

So, earlier today, I had a stress-breaker. I went out with the neighbor to a yard sale and thrift shop. I bought a ton of useful stuff for about $20.00. All useful. 4 new workout DVDs...everything from Prevention's Chris Freytag to Biggest Loser! Cookbooks. Sandwich maker. T-shirt. Fitness books.

Gosh, I even feel guilty for being on Sparkpeople instead of job-hunting even if for a couple of hours!

I have a library book that is about making salads in jars. One of the jar recipes is for Burger in a jar... and another is about Tuna in a jar (Deli style)...both salads. Later on tonight, I want to clean out my fridge and make room for jars. I think it is an excellent idea to have these jars made ahead of time for when I am hard at work and too stubborn to make something for lunch. I usually just throw some lunchmeat or cheese or peanut butter on bread. Yes, this is good to do.

I have a new pedometer and do NOT like it. Instead of wearing on your wrist or on your shoe, you have to keep it in your pocket. So, guess who has to wear pockets every day? It was the only store to have a pedometer in stock so I had to buy it. I hate not knowing how many miles/steps I have walked.

Well, I have potatoes (with butter & oil) in the crockpot then I will add pasta the last half hour of cooking. Spiced up with garlic salt, onion powder, minced garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, but we are out of parsley..

I have a very exciting life, huh? LOL Thanks for being my Sparkfriends!

I made baked beans in the crockpot for a father's day picnic..the beans must have been too old..had to put them back into the pressure cooker to get the beans softer..the beans were okay but not my best. I like anything with beans

Hello!

Just a short message today. I saved enough writing prompts from pinterest to keep me busy for a million years! Oh well, atleast I will not have writers' block for a while!

I would like to create my own Mediterranean Diet Sparkteam. Would you be interested?

I am having my morning iced coffee. FYI You can get French Vanilla and Hazelnut at Dollar Tree for a buck a bag. My favorite is chocolate raspberry by Arbuckle, but $4.99 a bag. I just cannot afford it.

It figures that I want to lay out today and the clouds are already blocking the sun. uuugh

Not sure what I want to throw in the crockpot today. Any recipes you'd like to share?

Eye checkups are always necessary..My eyes changed..from near sighted to needing glasses to read..At a younger age..my husband put on glasses to read..I took my glasses off..before bifocals..our bodies are always changing..

I have given up on the whole eyeglass thing. I had 20/20 years ago, but went to the doctor just to make sure everything was OK. The doctor said I needed eyeglasses. He said that I am "just not getting any younger". Totally impossible to read with the glasses. I do not even need them... but he said I "do". Then, I bought those cheap readers. Still nada.

Anyway, darned if I do, darned if I don't.

Yes..good reading glasses make reading all the more enjoyable..Reading MISS JULIA SPEAKS HER MIND by Ann B. Ross..it is so good..and luckily, a large print addition. It may be an older book but it is uplifting to know not every book has to have a "R" rating

emoticon Realized a few days ago that it has been 6 Years since I got my eyes checked!! I'm noticing some small changes in my vision, so I went in yesterday.
The biggest thing was that there is the very Earliest Indication of cataracts. The Opthamologist wasn't concerned, she said I just need to be diligent about wearing Sunglasses (I am pretty good about wearing them, but I will do better).
My vision had changed enough to warrant new glasses, and I had a coupon for 50% off Frames, so my 6 Year Old Glasses got to retire, LOL!

Finished the book THE GREENING OF MRS DUCKWORTH by Marion Duckworth..not a widely published book but a good story of how to overcome trials..and bad memories..How I got my self confidence was in working in food service..Books that tell a person how they overcome obstacles is always wonderful..we all take different pathways..that is why spark people is so good..

I have a waterbed and read in bed..really need a new bed..had this one forever but I hate to give up the heated part..and mattresses..how do you choose? Too many choices ad the price is like buying a car. Reading NIGHTINGALE at the moment..by Kristin Hannah..so good..It took my daughter being in college to finally discover that we love the same types of books..highly recommended by her.

Reading in bed all day is a luxury for kids..and the lazy days of summer..and good books..it all goes together so nice..harder to stay focused as an adult..Life can get in the way.

Just barely got in my 10,000 Steps today.
emoticon I will continue to be as Active here as possible, but my husband's health is declining rapidly. We signed him up on Hospice today, so now it is just waiting to see what happens day to day.

Get the Biggest Bang for Your Bodyweight Workout Buck
When You're Short on Time, No Equipment Needed

It's Tuesday morning and you slept through your alarm because of a late night at the office. You missed your favorite spin class, so it's tempting to skip a workout for today and hope tomorrow's schedule seems a little better, right? Definitely not! Staying in a consistent fitness routine is one of the most important keys to long-term success. Got five minutes before your next meeting at the office or 15 minutes before pickup at school? There's a workout that's great for you. Just because you don't have your favorite cardio machine or set of dumbbells by your side, you can still get a challenging, effective workout anytime, anywhere.


Each of these timed bodyweight workouts contain both cardio and strength exercises. The exercises are designed to challenge multiple muscle groups and get your heart pumping. If you find an exercise you're unable to perform or is too challenging for your current level, you can modify or swap it out for something similar. For example, if you can do some but not all of the advanced exercises, use some of the beginner moves instead.

The Starting Line

Up the Ante

If you’ve been exercising for a while and are up for a challenge, try this advanced version, which includes dynamic moves that will maximize your output.

If you have 5 minutes…
10 pushups
10 bear crawls forward, 10 bear crawls back
20 alternating walking lunges
Repeat circuit 2 more times.
If you have 10 minutes…
Mountain climbers (1 min)
20 alternating one-legged squats
Burpees (1 min)
10 triceps dips
Repeat circuit 2 more times.
If you have 15 minutes...
Plank (1 min)
Front kicks with a squat (1 min)
20 single leg bridges
20 crab walks forward, 20 crab walks back
Repeat circuit 3 more times.
If you have 20 minutes…
Wall sit with calf raises (1 min)
High-knee running in place (1 min)
20 alternating Russian twists
Plank jacks (1 min)
Repeat circuit 4 more times.

Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, but when you decide to put exercise at the top of your priority list, you'll find time no matter how hectic life may be. Even if you can't manage a long workout, finding a few minutes here and there throughout the day to squeeze in activities like the routines above is so beneficial. You'll get a burst of energy and sense of accomplishment to carry you through the rest of the day and keep you on track with your healthy living goals.

Good Morning. I hope everyone has a great day. I have been spending so much time on Spark and also been watching close attention to the candidates in there campaigns running for president. So many negatives on both sides, but, after watching so much, I have decided to vote for Trump. I do not like his past life style, but I still think he is the better choice. Hilary has so many bad issues and Trump wants change to help the people and put a wall up stop the illegal immigrants from coming in, change Obama care, the cost, will sky rocket by next year. Fix the economy, lower the taxes, I am all for that. I watch fox, news because the other media who are covering are not fair to Trump and do not want to say, anything on the negative about Hilary, and should also mention all the emails she hid from the people and the government. She is not to be trusted. I think, if people would listen more to O'Reilly and Hannity, they would get a better picture of things. Okay, well that is all I have to say on the subject. Let the best one win.

Pushups will improve muscular endurance within the upper body, strengthen both muscles and bones, create lean muscle mass that raises your metabolism and, of course, help keep you fit and healthy. If you're just looking to develop a great chest, arms and shoulders, you could do much worse than follow along with the hundred pushups plan. Your core strength will also go through the roof too!

Last week when I went in to the Nursing Home to see my client, I stopped in the little library they have. I found a book by Linda Goodnight, the author of "The Christmas Child " which I read recently and LOVED!
I brought the book home, promising that I would bring one to replace it today.
Today I actually took 3 Books in to donate. As I laid them on the table, I glanced over to the other side of the table and there lay ANOTHER Linda Goodnight book, LOL!! So now my Reading list has Grown AGAIN!!

GIVE YOURSELF THE GIFT OF STRENGTH THIS MOTHER'S DAY

On Mother’s Day, we think of flower arrangements, chocolates, and sentimental homemade cards. On top of these delightful gifts from others, this Mother’s Day, consider giving yourself a gift, too—a gift in the form of strength training. 

Wait, what? you ask. I thought Mother’s Day was about relaxation, pampering, and hopefully my husband or kids making a meal… 

It is about these things, but ultimately, Mother’s Day is about love. And what better way to show yourself the love you deserve than with exercise?   

While we might think of exercise as medicine, in fact, it’s actually a gift for our soul. It energizes us and fuels happiness. It also provides an escape. It’s a break from daily pressures, where we moms do something just for ourselves.   

But in order for exercise to be a gift, we have to see it as such. “It’s important to keep in mind that how moms frame or think about exercise really impacts whether it feels energizing or depleting,” says Michelle Segar, PhD, University of Michigan researcher and author of No Sweat: How the Simple Science of Motivation Can Bring You a Lifetime of Fitness. “Once moms start seeing the new ways how physical movement can be a gift they start craving it,” she says.  

“Gifts typically are fun and feel good to do in some ways,” Dr. Segar says. “Strength training gifts us with strength, better balance, feelings of empowerment, and improved posture,” she says.  

Shifting your Movement Mindset 

If you’ve viewed exercise as another annoying thing on your to-do list, you’re not going to switch to seeing as a gift overnight. Start by reminding yourself that physical activity—particularly a workout that combines strength training and cardiovascular exercise—reduces anxiety and depression. “Regular activity is an elixir of life—it not only energizes us and lifts mood, it helps us think better and be more creative,” Dr. Segar says. 

There’s science to back this up. According to theCenters for Disease Control and Prevention, doing a mix of an aerobic activity and strength training for at least 30 minutes, three to five times a week, can do the following:  

Help keep your learning, thinking, and judgment keen as you ageLower your risk of depressionImprove your sleepReduce anxiety and stress 

Both the aerobic exercise and strength training that make up the Curves workout release endorphins, which make you feel good. Strength training’s endorphin release is particularly powerful, so it’s a good idea for a busy mom to include strength training in her workout to reap its benefits to emotional health. 

In addition to reminding yourself that moving helps you feel better in body, mind, and spirit, it’s crucial that you give yourself permission to move in ways that feel good to you. “It’s time to toss out any ‘rules’ you have for exercise because they actually tend to prevent busy women from fitting regular physical activity into their lives,” Dr. Segar says.   

Here’s how:  

Embrace exercise as a gift. 

“We know moving lifts our mood and fuels us, even when we do it for just a few minutes at a time,” Dr. Segar says. “So the best way to transform exercise from a chore into a gift is to do in a way that makes you feel good and fits into your schedule.” That may not mean a 60-minute gym routine but instead, a quick but powerful circuit workout that fits into your schedule.  Segar shows us how to take specific steps to transform exercise from a chore to a gift in No Sweat.  

Work out with a friend. 

Most women don’t feel like they have enough time for exercise or their friends, so why not combine the two? Invite a friend to join Curves, so the two of you can work out together and catch up. At Curves, you always work out alongside others, which gives you added motivation and support.  Do it any way you like. 

One of the best things about exercise and the reason it is truly a gift is you can do it your way. The traditional Curves Circuit workout is available at any fitness level, so you can do it at your own speed. Want to switch things up a little? You can also take a class to improve your balance, core strength or overall tone. Or take a dance class to add in some fun.  It’s your special time—a gift! —so spend it the way you want.

Friday (yesterday) I went to Curves in the morning, then took 3 walks during the afternoon and evening to total over 11 MILES!!!! That makes an average of 7 miles I have walked every day this week!!!

Today I walked 3 miles at the Zoo, and yesterday i walked almost 6 miles before the Fireworks show at the Park.

Since it is Memorial Day Curves is Closed. So Anna and I met at Route 66 Park at 7 a.m. and walked 4 miles before it got hot.

Last week I walked went to Curves every day (except Saturday when they were closed for Memorial Day).
I didn't exercise today (Sunday) but I have a walk planned for tomorrow morning. Curves will be closed but I will find a way to do some activity for at least 2 hours.
