Be sure to look me up if you ever get over to the canal on the west side of the state. I'm looking for the double sided pedals for my new bike but in no rush to get them now. Maybe a good Christmas list item emoticon

Got my sites on a half ironman distance next year so I'll need to do lots of riding then. Just be spinning mostly over the winter.

Hi Sandy,

I would love to ride that Erie Canal path that you are talking about. I have heard of it before and it is on my bucket list. Congrats on the new bike! That is always fun and exciting to get a new ride. I have two-sided pedals that are clipless on one side and platform on the other. However I use the clipless almost all the time.

You have to have a lot of dedication to do triathlon. I know a number of my friends who do it. I will stick to cycling because that's what I enjoy. Hope you still manage to get in some activity even though it's getting colder and darker out.

Yes, you are correct. For those of us in the Northeast our riding days are limited :-( Riding season was good this year although I admittedly did not ride as much this year as past years. Since starting the sport of Triathlon I split more time between cycling, swimming and running and spent more time swimming since it is the weakest discipline for me. Most rides this year were solo and not much club riding due to schedule conflicts.

I did get a new bike this year!!! Bought a Specialized Diverge so I could have a road/adventure bike without the hassle of the clipless pedals, has disc brakes and wider tires. So I did a lot of riding on the Erie canal this year with this bike that was fantastic! You can just ride forever there, flat and very little interaction with traffic, although I did have the occasional close call with a geese and then there was the woman who when I called out " on your left" she moved left and almost ran me into the canal!!!

All in all a great season. So glad you have a epic season too and congrats on the long rides and leading some group rides this year as well.

For some of us in the northern area of the country, our outdoor riding days this year are coming to a close due to lack of daylight and colder temps. So it's time to assess what went right and what could have been better.

For me it was a mixed bag. I didn't do as many long, organized rides as I thought I might at the beginning of the year. But on the other hand, I had many enjoyable rides either with groups, with a friend, or solo. I even led some group rides for the first time. So overall, I would say it was good. There is always something more I could do, but that is something to strive for next year.

What about you? How has your riding year been?
