Wow, I see I'm not the only one to have super-reactions to vaccines. My thoughts were as many of you, that they kick our immune systems into overdrive.

I won't be getting the Coronavirus vaccine when it comes out. As a nurse, I know that it usually takes YEARS to develop a "safe" one that has gone thru clinical trials, and I'm NOT willing to be a guina pig and be part of a trial that they cleverly will NOT call a trial. And because I'll end up with a side-effect that will make my life miserable for months.

When I think about it, it actually makes sense that any kind of vaccine would kick your arthritis into overdrive. The vaccines boost your immune system to produce antibodies against the cooties you're being vaccinated against, and rheumatoid arthritis is your own immune system mistakenly attacking your cartilage.
I was unable to get the second part of the shot in May because of lock down, but I did go and get it two days ago and the exact same thing is happening. I am never taking another vaccine. If they make the COVID vaccine mandatory, they will have to track me down, restrain me, and force it on me to get me to take it!

You're not alone. Any type of vaccine hasn't been kind to me. I have enough pain as it is that I don't want to handle more. My knees hurt so bad! and it's day and night. I walk like a penguin!

Holly, I had the same type of reaction that lasted for MONTHS after the pneumonia vaccine. I was thrown into a fibromyalgia flare that was so bad that many nights I didn't lock my door because turning the lock caused excruciating pain on my finger joints. The fatigue was overwhelming and difficult to describe. My husband was at sea so I was alone except for a sick, elderly Lab.

I am afraid to get any more vaccines because of the above so I'm not sure I'd even take one against COVID> I really do know how you feel.

Gosh Holly...that sounds horrible. I have had shingles more then once. The last time I went to Dr right away & got meds that stopped the spread. I will not take the immunization for it.

This falls into the arena of what makes your arthritis worse (and it's only temporary), and that turned out to be the shingles vaccine. I took the first round last Monday and was hit with the typical side-effects the next day: flu-like symptoms including sore muscles, low grade fever, chills, headache, etc. But. the following day I was hit with such extreme pain in my knee, foot, and wrists that it rendered me unable to walk or do the simplest things. It felt like being stabbed with flaming swords. This pain lasted nearly a full day and didn't fully abate for almost three days. It only occurred in joints that were heavily damaged from 27 years of arthritis. Now I'm not trying to discourage anyone from taking the vaccine, but I do think you should know what I went through because this kind of reaction was not listed as a possible side-effect. I can only hope that my case is atypical and I'm not looking forward to taking the second round in May, but at least I know what to expect.

You all have encouraged me to look for some natural things to help me with my arthritis pain. I like tumeric and I think I may look for some supplements as well. I cook with it some. Also the drinks with ginger and fruit.

I have recently started using epsom salts in baths to help with pain and swelling and I use ice packs often. I also have found BioFreeze and other topicals can help some. I am trying to get back into a better routine and eating better will help i am sure.

I take1800 turmeric root with 95%curcuminoids with 15 mg black pepper I think the black pepper is the key so the turmeric absorbs in to your body..
I take 2-3 of these capsules daily
I also take turmeric as a tea sometimes more so now as I'm full steam ahead on my goals☕(( called golden milk))

Something🍵 I didn't mention and another expense but i drink Matcha Tea as a Latte with almond milk and that is wonderful for your health and I have a frother to froth the extra milk and I feel like I have a high calorie drink but it is low ((40 cal..))because of almond milk not whole milk🙏. Sometimes I use a touch of honey but I don't mind the not sweet taste ..I luv it a green drink

Sedonacat...sorry about that pain. It is hard to know what really helps & what the side effects are. I am giving serious thought to medical marijuana for my fibro pain. Hope you are getting some pain relief.

I saw an earlier post about magnesium. I take it & vitamin b complex every morning. Also important to take vitamin D, especially of you live in a state up north like I do.

SedonaCat could a short term of steroids help with the pain and not cause to much damage with your ostio? yes, it is hard to decide when in that position on what to do. unfortunately we make mistakes and then learn that we shouldn't of done that. hopefully you will be feeling less pain soon.

I am having LARGE flare affecting my spine and find it difficult to sit, get up, etc. emoticon The only comfortable position until I get exhausted is to stand. My pain management doc put me on steroids which may be helping some but I hate to take them because I have osteoporosis and they increase bone loss. I'm between a rock and a hard place.

The sad thing is what caused the flare-I was slouched on a too soft couch like a pouting teen and when I tried to get up I couldn't.

Moral of the story: GOOD posture and no slouching. I should have known better. emoticon

Has anyone tried the Knee Compression Sleeves for OA pain? What price range ones did you try? One is on my facebook page saying it helps with bone on bone etc. With new larger sizes. I think they were in the $30 price on sale for $23 I think. On ebay they have some under $10.

Not all come in the Larger sizes.

i know the waiting for an appointment with the dr. to find out what will help you or diagnose what is wrong seems to take forever.
so sorry to hear about your pain.

i know with my arthritis if i stand to long my knees don't want to bend. if i sit to long my knees don't want move and it takes me a little while to get straightened up and moving especially if i'm sitting on some type of hard bench (like in church) or chair, if i don't get enough sleep, due to so much i have to get done. i know when i finally get to sleep in and get rested the pain is so much better. i will even at times sit in the lazy boy with my feet propped up.

is there anything you have found out that may help you. try and relax.

we are here for you for good and rough times. let us know how you make out with your dr. appointment.

i have a tendon that likes to rub on a bone in my ankle. when i found out many years ago this tendon was torn by the bone and had to wear a walking boot for 6 weeks. then an ankle brace. every now and then i start to get pain in that ankle and i will then put the brace on my ankle to give it some support and it helps with my ankle. maybe an ankle brace could help you.

Thank you for your answers and suggestions.
I have had no cortisone shots.
I now have orthotic inserts for my shoes.
The tendonitis occurred due to plantar fasciitis. The orthotics are correcting how I walk and easing the stress on the tendons.

I find that my arthritis flares up more when I have sugar or highly processed foods.

I find meditation helps a little. I am not suppose to take any kind of pain relief medication. So l use my heating pad and massage pad alot.

And sometimes I says universe I can't stand the pain, you take it for a little while. It tricks my mind for a little bit emoticon

i have no idea about the dark chocolate, but i do know it is good for you and of course in moderation. the higher percentage the better. some dark chocolate is 60 % and i have had 90%. it isn't as sweet, but i think it is delicious.

i was told cherries or cherry juice is good for gout.

ouch on the tendonitis in your ankle. did you get a cortisone shot in your ankle? when i had tendonitis in my wrist a cortisone shot helped so much.

Thank you for the discussion here.

I use a grab bar to get out of the tub too. I have tendonitis of the ankle.

The chart just posted is great. I knew many of those food categories, but not the cherries. Coincidentally, I bought fresh cherries today!

I have a question. I have heard positive things about eating small amounts of dark chocolate. Does anyone know if it affects arthritis in a positive way, negative way, or is neutral?
