Getting ready for my first craft fair this Saturday here in Farmington. If any of you are close enough, it is at the UMF Student Center from 9:00 to 2:00. Hoping everything will go smoothly as I try to organize everything for the first time this year.

Hi all

Oh my, I have missed so much this week!

Barb, wishing you the best on your eyes.

Eileen, I have failed miserably at the push ups too. I was hoping that if I posted it and had some others trying it, I would do it. It seemed fairly doable, but alas, life gets in the way, schedules change, and priorities take over.

I am doing a bit better with me eating, but still fighting cravings in the evening. Stress is such a killer!

Just a couple of days and we will start a new month. Hard to believe!

Take care my fellow Sparkers!

Barb, I remember what you went through with your original cataract surgery, and must say that you deserve to have everything go smoothly this time. I had cataract surgery before you had yours and so far, everything is good with me.

Wishing you fast healing this time.

I actually had cataract surgery 3 1/2 years ago, but in the last year secondary cataracts grew, my sight was much more affected by the secondary cataracts then the original ones. Fortunately it is not surgery for the secondary cataracts but just laser for about 30 seconds after an hour of drops every 5 minutes. After all the trouble I had with the first cataract surgery I wouldnít want to do it again! I guess since the lens in my eye are now plastic, burning off the secondary growth is pretty easy, too bad that is not the case with the first time lol

Barb, I am so glad your eye is all you thought it would be and more. I have had both of my cataracts done and I am so happy with the results.

I also wanted to tell Sandy, I did give up on the monthly plank exercise I am still doing the one on the slant at the door, but to get down is not at this time in my ability. But I have a new arrow in my quiver of exercises. Thanks

I have to admit I realized I wasnít seeing very well, but now that one eye is back to normal I realize that I was pretty blind in that eye. They said the eye would be blurry for 24 hours, but within a couple hours it was clear, the worst part was the sticky stuff they put on the lid speculum, makes blinking in slow motion. I will be glad to get the other one done, the difference in the two makes me headachey

Barb, hoping for a successful outcome on your eyes.

It is an absolute beautiful day here, and I am trying to get furnace fire wood in so that I can get the final cord delivered before it cannot be delivered to the window where it is put in. I should have plenty of time, but last year we had snow too deep to make it into that driveway by November 1 last year. Hoping that doesn't happen this year.

Wow we had a lot of rain last night and today, was in Bangor for my eye laser and it was thundering, you could hear the rain pounding out there.

So happy to have hay done finally, what a relief to get the barn filled! Now on to a bunch of tasks that need to get done before winter including cleaning up the barn.

My eyes feel lopsided tonight, one is very clear and the other blurry, the other one will be done next week.

It has been a beautiful day here, as well. I went to an Extension training meeting on exercise which I wanted to attend, but had been told the wrong time. I was able to get in a training meeting on nutrition which was held at the time I was told, and then waited to do the exercise meeting which was after that.

I didn't learn much new at either meeting, but the lady doing the exercise class was very dynamic and most of what she presented was very worthwhile since it was aimed at the old person--I certainly qualify on that and her suggestions were very doable.

Trying to finish up haying, hopefully today is the last day, said that yesterday! There is so much to get done before winter and here I am still doing hay.

Dad left on Saturday, my cousin drove him to Waterville and another cousin was supposed to be driving him to Attleboro but bailed on that. So Hollis drove him down yesterday. Dad drives but not long distances, he has always had a tendency to fall asleep at the wheel.

Beautiful day out there!

Good morning everyone.

Pat, nice to see you!

Barb, it is nice that your brother will be with your dad. So many changes and challenges as we assist our parents with aging.

Eileen, you are such a wonderful support for all on this forum, thank you for your efforts!

What a beautiful few days we have had with sunshine and moderate temperatures! I am hoping to get outside and cut back some garden beds today, Yesterday I ended up in the kitchen all day!

I have recently gone through the training requirements to facilitate the caregiver group at our library, It was provided by the Alzheimer's Association. I am now officially a volunteer for them and also for Eastern Area Agency on Aging. This morning I will attempt to attend a virtual meeting for alz.org. where the president of the organization will be speaking.

I have also signed up to take a Wikipedia course in conjunction with National Libraries of Medicine. I have homework to do for that before tomorrow's online class. It is a four week course with 12 hours of time involved.

I also need to work on getting our private road association annual letters sent out. We all donate a fixed amount to assist with maintenance.

Tomorrow our staff is putting on a breakfast to thank the Friends of the Library organization for their hard work to raise money to pay for our many programs. I will be making a couple of breakfast casseroles for that.

I still do not have my car inspected, been working on it since August. My son put all new brakes on it, then it needed something else, then had to get new plates as mine were de-laminated, all of the salt air takes its toll. Now my husband is working on getting the old rear plate off, it has rusted in place. I am hoping for a passed inspection this week!

Well, I have rambled on enough. Hope you all have a great week!

Thank you for being such great team members!

Sandy

Barb, I am glad your dad is able to take care of himself (I am sure with others helping) now so that he can get caught up on his own medical needs. It is probably good that he is back in his old house for a little while at least.

No snow here either, rain and blustery today. I am catching up on things now that everyone has gone home except my Dad, and he is staying with my brother who lives in Dads house. I decided not to go to market today but just to catch up on things.

The new hens are doing great on eggs, they are already up to 50 eggs a day, small eggs but they get big quick. They are not doing so great on laying in the nests though, I have been stuffing them into nests and they are starting to get the message.

My Dad has unloaded a huge bunch of stuff on me again, didnít even look at it, just had my brother take it upstairs. It is so hard to declutter when someone keeps bringing mor clutter, but it is not worth saying anything to him, he things he is doing good. I am driving him to Bangor tomorrow for his eye appointment. He is catching up on lots of things he never had time for in the las year or two.

We haven't had snow in Farmington yet, although it has been rather frosty a few mornings. I sure can wait before we get any snow, but I think they have had some in northern Franklin County.

I have mowed my lawn with the riding mower today for what I hope is the last time this year. I still have areas that I should do with the push mower, but I will be busy tomorrow with a basket class. Since we are supposed to have rain on Thursday and I have to go out of town for lunch anyway, we will see what the weekend brings.

Today has been a mixed bag of weather here with the morning being rather drizzly. We have had some sun this afternoon.

I have processed more plum tomatoes into an unstuffed cabbage dish which I like and will have a lot to put in the freezer. Love to have these prepared meals for days when I can't or don't want to cook.

Good afternoon team:

I haven't been on here for quite awhile. I used to live in Maine and I really miss it. Has it been snowing in Maine anywhere yet?

I lived in Waterville and several small towns around Portland .

So sorry for your loss, Barb. It is so hard to lose a family member, especially your mother, but know she will always live in your heart and your memories of her.

So glad you have friends who are so ready to help you since your schedule is always overloaded with your farming duties. Wish I lived closer to pitch in. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

HI Barb,

So sorry for the loss of your mother. Even though we might know it is coming and prepare ourselves, the reality still robs us of our beginnings, our source of life. We are thinking of you as you face the days and weeks ahead,

I'm glad you have family and friends to help you.

Warmly,

Sandy

My mother did pass away yesterday morning, she hadnít talked for a couple of weeks, but was talking to Dad when Mike went to the kitchen, and passed shortly after. Things will take a little longer since it is crossing states, so the services will be next week, Monday or Tuesday. Mike is coming up Thursday, then the rest of his family on Saturday, Dad will come up with one or the other, he hasnít made up his mind.

One of my friends came over yesterday and did a huge amount of cleaning in the kitchen plus swept up the porch and all the cob webs that were there while I cleaned up the dining room. I need to do a little wiring on the light today and will be haying too. Busy day

Hi Barb,

Sorry to hear about your Mom. Likely you may have begun grieving her loss when the dementia began, but it is still a difficult process. Our thoughts are with you.

My father is holding steady at this point.

My hips are failing, and I think I need to make an appointment to see what is going on. I will run that by my PCP when I have my visit in December.

Nice fall day here on the coast, using the time to put summer furniture under cover for the season ahead.

Wishing you all a nice day.

Sandy

Didnít find the gray kitten, he either found a home or got into trouble, the stupidity of people really burns me sometimes, after I told her to keep the kittens in the carrier while in the car. I guess I am lucky the tiger made his way home all that distance.

Did haying yesterday, and finished up in the chicken pen getting all 100 pullets moved. They are laying up to 22 little eggs now,

Need to do some neglected house work ASAP, in-between haying for this week. I think I have mentioned before that my mother has had dementia now for quite a few years, she has been on hospice care for the last few months now. My younger brother called yesterday and said she only has 24-48 hours to live. They are just doing comfort care now. She is 92 and my parents just had their 69th Anniversary last month. They are living down in Attleboro, MA with my younger brother, but services and burial will be up here in Crystal.

Thank you for your input on the push up chart. I totally understand that it might not be doable for those who have had injuries. Truthfully, I have not been faithful doing it, have missed days, so not gaining much there, and my shoulder continues to be an issue, although has not gotten worse.

I really need to incorporate some strength training into my days, as I feel myself losing strength. Having a mostly sedentary job does not help.

Hope the Kittens get found, and the wood stacking goes well!

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Sandy, I saw that chart of Facebook and it looks doable for most people, but I cannot do push ups at all because of injuries years ago. I have tried to do them in different ways, and can usually manage a few against the wall before problems start, but it is just not worth the pain to try to build the count.

I am currently trying to get firewood in a stacked so getting my exercise that way.

Barb, I was sorry to learn that some of the kittens had gotten lost before they reached their new home. Hopefully, the other one will be found or make it back to you.

Looks doable Sandy, although it would depend on how muscular your arms are, it is quick if they are not in very fit shape. However it could be pushed out to two months doing each day twice and build up more slowly.

I was quite dismayed to find the little Tiger kitten home last night, he was frantic to get cuddled and purred nonstop, getting so close he was tripping me up. I called the person that took him and no answer until this morning when I threatened to report the number to the authorities. Apparently the kids in the back of the car took the kittens out to cuddle, something they probably werenít in a mood to do with total strangers plus being nervous about being in a car for the first time. They stopped at Irving and when the husband got out they escaped. They should have called me immediately but didnít. I donít know where the gray one is, but will go down to Irving to call for him when I get my car back later today, I am surprised they didnít stay together. It is doubtful I will find him but it is worth a try. It took the tiger a week to get home, so it was probable the other may not be still alive, but I hope he finds his way here too.
