Egg customers were telling me snow tomorrow, but I havenít checked the weather yet!

Been busy getting ready for winter, seems like things keep getting in the way lately. I still have all crickets litter of kittens, they are adorable but I donít need that many kittens.

I am down to just the one flock of chickens, lot less work then 3 flocks, less grain lol.

Hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving tomorrow! I am just staying home this year, no turkey!

A beautiful day here with some of the snow and ice melting from last weekends storm. Would love to have the weather stay warm so that travelling will be safe for all of those driving for their Thanksgiving celebrations.

After yesterday's storm I have had to shovel snow. My plowman came since we did have a bit more than should be left, and since it had rained a lot on top of the snow, it was not easy to more. I used my electric snowblower for most of it, but it was so heavy to move that it took some time to do it. Fortunately today is quite warm, and much of the ice is disappearing from the driveway.

Hope everyone is getting ready to have a nice Thanksgiving.

Hi Pat,

I hear that more and more from people, that coworkers are challenging. Are you still at Amatoe's? Seems like once the founding generations are gone and others take over, some things change.

I hope you can retire next year if that is your desire. I could retired now at 67, but am hoping to work until I am 70 for a larger SS benefit. We will still be paying a mortgage until I am 80!

I have been trying to get back in the exercise routine, Managed to do the bike for 3 days last week at 20 minutes a session.

My knitting is going well, I have finished a hat to match my new coat, and hope to finish another one for a gift today. Then I will make another one for a gift.

I have had 4 days off in a row, and have enjoyed doing some things I rarely get to do, it has been so rewarding.

Have a great week everyone!

Sandy

This has been such a busy week for me. My vehicle has been in for some body work, and I finally got it back this morning. I had picked up a loaner vehicle on Monday so that I could make my appointments, but I do like my vehicle better. Am working on the craft fair space application and since we are almost full, it is a job to keep everything straight. I have requests daily for the spaces that are left. I have just sent out emails to a couple more people which probably will bring us up to capacity.

That is great you got help, I know have a hard time asking for help, but I am learning!

Been working on replacing the door at the bottom of the stairs to the stable area. There was a lot of rubble that had to be picked up, guess the builders picked up everything upstairs but not in the stable area. I got that done, and the old door out, but need to cut the door going in, so I am working with the frame fitting first.

Thank you, Barb, for all the info on the Fitbits. I have a Zip that takes a battery which must be replace rather than recharged when it runs out. I find that they do not last very long and thought it was the quality of the battery. What you have written makes me think it is just something that happens with the device and may not be the fault of the battery at all.

I finally called a couple of neighbors to help me so that I could get all my firewood in to the cellar before the expected snowstorm this week. It is a jumbled mess of wet and dry wood in the cellar right now, but I can get it sorted out while I am making sure the furnace lights and not waste time standing around. My neighbors had offered help many times and since I pushed my back too far on Thursday and ended up with spasms, I decided I had two choices. Let the wood stay outside and get snowed on, or call for help. So glad it is now inside.

On the fitbits, in general they have battery problems. My first Fitbit was a flex, it died within 10 months, they replaced it, the new one lasted about 4 months, that was replaced, when it died in about 6 months they refused to replaced it, saying the warranty only lasts from the first one, so if you get a replacement with 1 day left on your warranty, the new one has no warranty. I switched to an Alta, I liked it a lot better, but the battery life was no where near advertised 5 days even though I turn off all day sync, and donít use all the battery grabbers like messages, and location. The Alta was having to be charged every 2-3 days, worse when steps were over 20K, I chatted with Fitbit and they sent a replacement when it was 4 months old, the new one was not much better, usually needed charging every 3 days, then went down to 2 and then refused to charge at all. I switched to a charge 3HR, even though I know the HR is not a good choice for someone with high BP. It doesnít keep its charge for the advertised 7 days even though I have shut down all the functions that use lots of battery including all day syncing, but the 5 days is acceptable. If you look at the forums the battery is the biggest problem most people have with fitbits, besides the constant changing of the dashboard. I have to admit I donít much like the new dashboard this time around, it is not as easy to quickly read on my phone, but fitbits software is so far above any other brand I stay with them. Since i donít do gyms or other expensive things, I feel the Fitbit is worth it. I have had the charge 3 for about 5 months now, it does a lot of things I donít use, but it does what I want it to do, and I got it on sale. I like seeing actual numbers on my tracker instead of the dots the flex had, but sometimes the bigger band bothers me.

Have done a very successful craft fair today, and after getting home and unloading everything to my porch where I have been storing things between fairs, I have spent the rest of my time trying to get my wood fires started. Since it is a very cold night, I would much rather have the wood furnace going than to rely on the oil furnace. Since I have been up since 4:00, I don't think it will be a very late night.

Your FitBit conversation is interesting. I have an HR Charge 2, if I am calling it the right model. I have not had any trouble with mine.

I was not aware that Google bought FitBit. I hope that it doesn't change much, as I have really enjoyed having and using one for nearly 4 years now. I did notice that they keep pushing a per pay version with more bells and whistles. I am completely happy with the free version of the software.

Mine is working with SparkPeople without any issues.

I have today off, as well as Sunday and Monday. I have some task goals I want to work on, and then I might start knitting a hat to go with my new winter jacket. I got a good price on one at the L.L. Bean outlet, plus had enough coupon dollars to get it free!

Happy Saturday!

Sandy

It did finally download a week's worth of data yesterday. It has connected again today, but I think the battery was going dead and it lost most of the info for today. It did finally reset the time, so we will see. Most of my streaks have been lost simply because it has been having problems with the downloads, batteries, etc. I, too, have wondered what the impact of Google having purchase the company will do.

After the update to the Fitbit program a few weeks ago, it takes mine about 20 minutes or more to finish syncing, not very useful sometimes. I see google bought out Fitbit, wonder how that is going to impact things. I just noticed my Fitbit hasnít downloaded to Spark for 3 days.

For some reason I have been unable to sync my Fitbit Zip to Spark or even to get the sync point icon to show up on my computer for a week now. I have tried deleting the program and reinstalling it and it gets to a certain point and then stops. I tried restoring my computer to an earlier time when the Fitbit was syncing and managed to end up without Google Chrome. Finally got it back to today's date, and decided to be happy where I am right now for a bit. I can barely do what I need to on the computer and since I have things I must do on it at the present time, I will be happy with what I have to do working, and leave everything else alone.

I got my apples picked today! Two big totes full, maybe if I get home early from my eye appointment I will get things ready to press cider. When the workers did my roof and part of the floor they put the cider press way in the back, it is excessively heavy and may take a while to get it back to the front of the barn.

Yesterday a hunter was wondering around my lower orchard, trying out apples and stuffing them in his hoodie. I canít quite figure out why people think it is ok to trespass on someone elseís property and steal things. It seems like because we live in a rural area it is ok for them to steal our stuff. I have granted many people permission to pick a bag of apples, but you have to actually ask to get permission. Someone stealing just gets kicked off the property with the warning next time it will be police that are called. I asked him if it was ok for me to come on to his property and take what I want, his answer was that is stealing, somehow taking apples is not stealing in his mind, because I have so many trees and may not use them all. Over the years I have noticed that is a typical mindset for the city people that come up here to play, it is ok for them to trespass because I have lots of land. I would guess if I decided to have a picnic on their front yard I would probably get arrested.

Playing catch up with the November posts. I did have a very successful craft fair on Saturday (selling more than I usually do at that particular fair) and managed to get things unloaded again when I got home.

We rarely love power here, and I think that the explanation is that we are on the "hospital feed" so every effort is made to keep this line up and running.

The wind did take a lot of the back of my barn roofing, etc. off. I had been trying to get estimates, etc. to have what blew off taken off anyway, just not happy that the wind did also raise some of the roofing panels on the main barn which I do not want to have taken down. It was rather wild at times and am glad nothing was in the way when what blew off came crashing to the ground.

Wow 30 hours, even as bad as EMEC is we donít lose power for that long, but we do lose power often. The only thing I miss with no power is the microwave, I wanted some popcorn lol. My water is a gravity fed spring so water is not a problem, good thing with all those animals drinking tons! I can use my stove, and have a couple backup kerosene heaters for winter.

The winds tore off roofing panels on my greenhouse, so yesterday I covered it with a tarp and some slats just to keep the water and snow out til spring. I was planning on replacing the roofing panels next spring because they are cloudy and the sun doesnít get through much anymore, they are brittle too.

I am going to try to get some apples picked today, was supposed to do that yesterday, but it never happened.

We had a power loss yesterday, but only for about 5-6 hours, it was out when I got home.

I have a generator too, but it only runs the barn lol

Hello friends,

Barb, thank you for getting the November thread started. Great topic, it is always a good practice to appreciate what we have rather than bemoaning what we do not have.

I am thankful for having this beautiful day off from work. I have enjoyed breakfast out with my husband, done a few errands in town, did what I could in the kitchen. Still no power. We have a generator, but it is not set up to run the stove, just the refrigerator and freezer, and a few lights, and furnace.

Headed to visit my Dad now.

Enjoy your day!

Sandy
