Hi Toni! So glad you liked the book! Over a year ago I had used that book as a study aid and earned CEU credits to keep my ACE personal trainer certification current (every two years we must recertify).

Anyway, the first time I went through the book, I have to admit I was just trying to answer the questions and get my credits. But I kept wanting to go back through it a 2nd time just to ENJOY it. So I finally sat down and read it (with no pressure) back in May. LOVED IT!

Keep on keeping your dream alive of becoming a fitness instructor! You won't regret it!

And... keep on showing up here and chatting with us! LOL

Just wanted to say "Hi" and send a "Thanks" to GetUp&GoGirl - you mentioned a book called "Fitness Illustrated" so I picked it up - really good stuff! I am not a fitness instructor but would like to become one, maybe next year after I get a few other goals accomplished.

Way to go Pam on getting a car air conditioner fixed for $49! Amazing!

We had a slight break in the temperature. It only got to about 90 today!

Guess my age is catching up with me! I taught 4 classes today, and I'm exhausted! I did a cardio, a strength class and two yoga classes. I think the yoga got to me more anything. I don't do as much regular yoga anymore, and two classes made me sore! You'd think the deeper stretches in aerial yoga would keep me limber, but I think I just stretched some different muscles than I do in aerial yoga.

Have a good week everyone!

Hello Everyone,

Nothing new or exciting going on around here at this time. Very HOT, but like SUE, I am NOT complaining. I like it HOT, of course that is as long as I am in an air-conditioned building, house, or vehicle. My air conditioner had been "out" in my truck for years, but the guy who works on it for me fixed it a few weeks ago with no charge for labor. The part was on $49. So now I have air conditioning in my truck again. That makes me HAPPY! emoticon

Gotta go now and get ready to teach my evening class.

HUGS and TAKE CARE, ALL!

Great to see we have a couple more new members.

Melissa, it sounds like you have a positive attitude to your new adventure. I have lived all over, and even though there are always some things I don't like about a new location, there are always good things too. Sometimes it just takes time to get settled and comfortable in a new place. We have been here 10 years. That's longer than I have lived anywhere. Fortunately, I really like it here.

Officially hit 100 here today. It's supposed to storm and cool off (all the way to the low 90's). I'm not complaining. I definitely prefer hot to cold!

Melissa, just keep putting out those feelers. At some point, you will experience 'the tipping point' and things will start really HOPPING for you!

And we'll be here to cheer for you!!!

We had a member here a few years ago that moved to Australia. (We really miss her on this team!) She kept talking to people, businesses, studying, and repeating all those actions! It took a number of months but that girl got SO BUSY from all the contacts she made. And then she got her DREAM JOB!

Luckily I'm FB friends with her so we're still in contact!

I will look into that website Susy! Thanks for the tip! Have a great week ladies! emoticon

SUE - I saw the photos of your dogs on your Spark Page. They are precious, and so photogenic. emoticon

Hot here too, and very humid. Rain predicted off and on this week. I am not one who sweats very often, but yeah, I have been sweating during the workouts lately.

Have a GREAT EVENING and a WONDERFUL WEEK!

emoticon I was typing a big long post telling you all about my dogs when I accidentally left the page, and unlike microsoft or email, nothing had been saved automatically. So I'm not going to do all that again right now.

I will just say hope you all had a good weekend. It's really hot here. Supposed to be 100 on Tuesday. The east coast humid heat bothers me a lot more than the heat out west where it isn't humid. No matter how cool a gym feels when you walk in, as soon as you start moving sweating begins! I'm not one of those who judges my workout by how much I sweat.

Have a good week everyone!

Hello Everyone,

WELCOME to the team MELISSA! We are so glad you've joined our group. I wish you much success in your new location with your business. I teach most of my classes at three gyms. I like that because the income is steady, and they provide the equipment in addition to the advertising. I also teach at a church and at a Recreation Center. Neither of those locations charge me a fee to teach there, but my income depends on how many participants are in attendance. That can be good or bad, depending on how many people are in the group. Make a few calls, and see if any of the gyms in your area are needing a Pilates Instructor. If not, maybe they would add you to the 'substitute' list. Chances are good that your membership would be free even if you were only on the 'sub' list. Once your name gets 'out there,' doors may begin to open for you.

SUSY..You are really 'knocking out' those webinars. Aren't you glad to get those behind you? The race track was rained out tonight. We've been rained out so many Saturday nights that if they want to make up the rained out races, it will be the end of the year before the race track closes. Yes Ma'am, I bought a 'like new' 2012 Hyundai in November. I love it, and it is beautiful. THAT is why I am still driving my truck to the race track. emoticon
That place is NO PLACE for my car. The entire parking and walking area is muddy and nasty, and by the time I get back in my truck at the end of the LOOOOONG night, I am hot and sweaty; my shoes may have up to an inch or more of gumbo mud stuck on the soles; my clothes smell like beer, and I smell like cigarette smoke. My car still smells like new, and I do not want to put all of THAT inside it. emoticon

SUE...I don't think I knew that you had four dogs. I wish I had a small dog, but I am not at the house enough to take care of a dog. I do have five inside cats though, and they are good company since they all think they are HUMAN! I guess they got that way because I treat them like they are HUMAN. emoticon

I need to get busy here at the house, since I've accomplished nothing today even though I have been here alone since noon. I did accomplish getting a two hour nap, so I guess that was SOMETHING!

Have a GREAT EVENING and a GREAT SUNDAY!

HUGS

SUE: Thanks for responding so quickly to Melissa's question!
And my heart goes out to you for taking care of four dogs... especially the older two who need quite a bit of care. Our animals are precious to us!

MELISSA:
Well, at first I was thinking very local... your apt complex. You could get one of those magnetic car signs from VistaPrint and let people notice and approach you.
www.vistaprint.com/car-door-magnets.

Also, you could wear customized t-shirts that point out you're a personal trainer or fitness instructor or pilates mat instructor. And then wear it, wear it, wear it... everywhere! LOL
I would think that people would be likely to make comments to you and ask questions.

I remembered a web site that places people with corporate businesses:
www.medifit.com/
That sounds like it would put you back into the area that you were working in back in NJ.

And then this may not be anything, but I'll toss it out there anyway:
Before I earned my certification, I did volunteer work for seniors. It was through an agency, so they trained me to lead a set routine of seated stretch band resistance exercise. Since it was volunteering, I certainly didn't earn any money BUT... it did help me begin to FEEL like I was doing something in the personal training field. Plus I knew that I could use it to my advantage on my resume for the future.

Anyway, those are my little tidbits. Hope they help someone, somewhere!
Susy

P.S. Keep posting! Tell us about your day; anything! We just chat on this thread... some about fitness; some about our lives!

I've moved a couple times since becoming a fitness instructor. Are you opposed to working at a gym or a Y to get started. I always took a fitness job to get known in a new area. If any of the grocery stores or your apartment complex have community bulletin boards, you could put up a flyer.

There is a great deal of difference between New Jersey and North Carolina. Totally different cultures. Hope the adjustment isn't too difficult.

Hello all! New here to the team! Glad I can find some encouragement! In 2013 I decided to change careers and become a Pilates Mat Instructor after working for years in a corporate, sedentary office setting. It felt great to make such a move but it was scary! I'm still trying to feel confident about my teaching skills but I know it'll get better! I think I get shy but I'm no stranger to public speaking, just a new area for me, I guess! I still consider myself a student and I sure don't have a Victoria Secret body hahaha it's a working progress!

My hubby and I just moved from NJ to NC and it's been an adjustment. I left behind wonderful clients and a great job that allowed me to travel in the city to various corporate fitness centers, which added new experience. Now, I have to start all over again. Any suggestions? We have a nice fitness room in our apt complex which has great leg room to conduct a Pilate Mat class (max 15 ppl -although I like to stick with just 10) but I'm kind of stuck on how to go about it! I tried speaking with the management office and although they are supportive of you conducting your own business, they will not advertise because there are residents who are fitness instructors as well and they don't want to show favoritism. I would love to get feedback or get some ideas. We've been here 5 months already and I don't want to get "cold feet". I would love to build my clientele once again so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you all in advance and have a wonderful day!

Suzy: Sounds like you are working hard on those cec's. Hope you get to do that webinar.

Pam: It sounds like working at the track is harder than any workout.

All is ok with me. Wednesday is a busy day for classes. i also have 4 dogs. Two are quite old (14 and 17). I spend a lot of time at the vet. Today was one of those days for a long time at the vet.

Hope you all have a good week.

Wha-at?! 6/12 was my last post on this thread??? ...smh... Time really, really does fly by so fast.

Okay, so... I "was" starting to be on a roll with getting my ceu's:
6/8 - High Intensity Interval Training 2-hr webinar
6/9 - The Dysfunctional Shoulder 2-hr webinar

6/10 - My valuable fitness books, 4 yrs of fitness magazines, plus a number of fitness course handouts all got wet from a mystery leak. I spent parts of the next few days working to get those dried out. (Pretty successfully.)

What in the world have I ACCOMPLISHED since then???

Okay, I have done a few things... Just not all that notable. I've read through some of my past magazines (since I had them out). I've re-read a book "Fitness Illustrated" by Brian Sharkey because I had a specific question I wanted to find the answer to.

And then I felt bad for several days and didn't accomplish much. (Much better now though!)

I'm waiting to find out whether my son and his girlfriend & her daughter will be coming to dinner tomorrow. If not, I plan to sit for another 2-hour webinar. (I've got two webinars left to take.) I'm kind of out of the mood. Trying to fight that feeling and just 'get-it-done!' LOL

PAM: That was pretty interesting to hear what all you have to do when you work at the race track. You must eat nutritiously in order to have the stamina to just go-go-go! Do you have a co-worker there?

Also, you mentioned driving your truck. I thought you bought a new used car back during the winter? What's the scoop on that?

SUE: Oh, I pine for more storage space! I gave up a 4-bedroom house with a basement/garage and believe me... I had it FILLED with stuff! But... it really does seem worth it to give all that up when we are traveling. So I have to "fight" myself all the time to try not to keep things. I'm getting better, but I still have a long way to go.

Yowza on how fatigued and how much body pain you felt from over-doing it last week! Yes, there IS such a thing as too much working out!

Okay, I'm going to go browse through a different fitness book now. Supper is cooking but it has about another hour. So I'm going to READ! (My favorite thing to do!)

SUE, I am known for keeping everything, too. Usually if I do get rid of something it never fails that somewhere along the way, I AM going to want it back.

I gotta get out of here and get ready for my evening class. Take care ALL, and keep in touch.

Hello Everyone,

Since I have between 1200 to 1500 emails, I see my last correspondence from this thread was pushed way down and OFF the screen. Anyway, I am sorry that I have missed coming in here to chat, and now I am far behind on all of the news.

I am going to quickly try to catch up since I have a class in a little over an hour. SUSY, I LOVE the NBA games, especially since our Memphis Grizzlies made it to the Western Conference Semi-Finals. They lost out to the Golden State Warriors who are now playing the Cleveland Cavaliers (Lebron James's Team) in the Championship series. I am watching all of those games, and they are very exciting, since Steph Curry plays on the Warriors, and he is the MVP of the NBA for this year, and Lebron James is the best player in the WORLD! So a gazillion people are keeping up with the action in their series.

I am most often watching the games alone, so I don't do much wild yelling and screaming, but I do let out a few 'choice' words when my team doesn't do something that I want them to do. I am neutral with the two teams playing in the Championship series, and Curry and James are both almost inhumanly athletic, so I am mainly just enjoying watching their 'Super Hero' athletic abilities.

The track gates open at 5:00 PM and I am supposed to be there around 2:30. No, there isn't any time to waste or wait around. I have WORK to do. I do not sell anything of my own. I sell things for the owners (who were my friends before I began working there, which is the reason I am working there). Those 'things' are T-shirts, Programs, raffle tickets, and beer! I sell more beer than all of the rest of the 'things' put together. emoticon When I get there the 'beer stand' is totally empty, and someone (Moi) has to get all of the T-shirts counted and displayed (hung up or folded on shelves), the Programs and raffle tickets out and ready to sell, and the many cases of beer counted and iced down in the huge cooler. That usually takes about two hours. By that time, it is time for the people to arrive, and there is never a dull moment from then until the last race is over. When the last race is over, the T-shirts and beer left over have to be counted and put away for the next weekend, and the money turned in. It is always after midnight, and I am so ready to get out of there. Then I drive the hour to get home.

The truck is doing good after I had the fuel pump and spark plugs replaced. The guy also worked on the air conditioner, and it isn't 100%, but it is a lot better than 0% like it has been for the past 5 years or so. It made it just fine over and back this past weekend.

That is all on this post.

Oh, Suzy, that was a really funny story. That's why I hate to get rid of anything because as soon as I do I want it!

As for the over exercising, I really did it yesterday. On Friday, I usually do a cardio class for an hour followed by an hour weights class (Body Pump type class). Then I teach a senior weights class and stretch class (30 min. each) at an independent living place. I told a friend who opened a fitness facility close to me that I would teach there and sub since I live so close. So I have been doing a 5:30 class there each day to become familiar with their classes. Yesterday it was supposed to be a barre class, but instead the instructor did a weight circuit class. My arms did not want to lift. I used lighter weights than I had that morning, but it wasn't fun at all! Today before my polefit class I was helping another instructor learn how to do and teach drops (advanced moves that are very demanding). I thought my arms were going to fall off by the time I was done with my class. NO WORKOUT FOR ME TOMORROW!!!!!!

Hope you enjoyed your breakfast "date". Congratulations on your successful book drying project.

I can't even lighten the load enough to move to a smaller house. I could never make it in an RV. Can't imagine how you do it! I don't care that I've been married almost 47 years. If my husband suggested that I would divorce him!

I'm not a full blown hoarder, but my attic looks like it.

SUE: Well, I wish I had your strong need to exercise! Every single day I "think" about it. But...

Okay, so we're meeting up with our oldest son (my step-son) and his wife for breakfast in the morning and then running errands together. So my morning and early afternoon is filled.

Today I took out ALL the paper towels from ALL the books and magazines. Other than one magazine with a small section that tore away due to over-wetness, everything is in decent shape. Keep in mind that there IS some wrinkling on the pages, but everything appears readable. Yay!

Okay, so I have a story to tell y'all...
I've been de-cluttering so-ooo much in the past month. I mean, PURGING lots of stuff. {Even though I still have LOTS of stuff left here in my RV.) So as I went through my books, I even managed to de-clutter some of my... gasp!... fitness/health books. We took loads of sacks to this little thrift store near where I'm staying. I like them because they DON'T charge you $7 for a used shirt. (In other words, they're not over-pricing their donated items.)

Well, remember my shoulder webinar that I took the other day but didn't follow/understand a lot of the material? I have been going back through my personal training books and trying to refresh myself on the basics. The material was so cursory, I didn't feel it was really helping me enough.

Well, guess what? I HAD a $59 book that I had bought off Amazon for something like $35 back in 2010. It was all on the Musculoskeletal Anatomy. Since it was so dry... and I didn't utilize it practically EVER... I donated it to the thrift shop a week to 10 days ago.

Last night I lay in bed and PINED for that book! I just KNEW it would help me understand the shoulder better. So I went down to the thrift store this morning and found it still on the shelves. They had it marked for $6. I had to struggle with myself when I saw the price! All their other books are only $1 and $2.00. Well, finally I told myself, "This is the penalty for getting rid of it. Just buy it back!"

While at the cash register, I told the little lady what I had done. And she said, "Honey, I'll sell it to you for half price." So I GLADLY bought it back for $3.00. Happy! Happy!

I think I danced out of there! LOL

Okay, so that's my story for today!

Oh wait... Just so you know, I HAVE been poring over the pages this evening on the shoulders---muscles and bones. I'm not done, but I am so GLAD to be trying to understand everything.

Just FYI:
When I tried to do the 100 Push Up Challenge about 4 years ago, I created some terrible impingement issues for myself. I didn't know that I had poor form from a tendency to internally rotate my shoulders; nor did I understand that weak posterior deltoids can cause severe issues when trying to do too many push-ups.

That's awful about your leak and your books and magazines, Hope it all dries out ok.

It's really hot and humid here today. Good day to be working out inside.

I am sad... Our RV had a leak yesterday (unexplained and still unfixed at this point). DH is trying to figure it out.

But my favorite exercise books, as well as four years of my IDEA Fitness Journal magazines got wet. (They were all standing upright in a large basket.) Fortunately, just the bottom 1/5 of the magazines/books got wet.

I quickly googled how to dry out books/magazines. The short answer is to put paper towels between the pages. With books, it's every 25 pages. With magazines, it's closer together.

Here's a few photos of "some" of my stuff: (Let me repeat... "some.")

Pam: Thank you for the team goody. It is good to have more active members.

Susy: Glad to hear you're rested up from your visitors. Good luck with your webinars.

We usually go to the Golden Corral breakfast buffet. It is the meal of the day. I have a egg white veggie omlet and fruit. (I'm soooo good.) Then I get really bad. They always have dessert stuff out. So I either have a chocolate chip cookie, a dish of mint chocolate chip ice cream or a carrot cake cupcake.

I'm not sure why I can't just sit around all day. I just can't. If I go work outside in the yard and/or garden, I'm okay to skip workout. However, if dh is just sitting around I try to join him for a while and then I go nuts and have to go the gym. I usually do a kickbox class because that is about the only afternoon class that I like ok. I don't feel like working out right after a big breakfast in the morning. By the time I'm tired of sitting around it's always afternoon.

Correction: I did not purchase "The Functional Shoulder" webinar; I purchased "The Disfunctional Shoulder" webinar.

Anyway, I was so-ooo unfamiliar with the majority of everything that was being covered. On the one hand, I feel there should have been a prerequisite to that class! I was quite frustrated from not understanding (remembering?) the terminology and/or the functions associated with the shoulder.

But on the other hand, I feel that I probably should have known to re-read the basic shoulder girdle anatomy from my personal training book PRIOR to the webinar. (Once I passed my test 4-5 years ago, I've never reopened it!) That's probably one EXCELLENT reason for having everyone recertify every two years!!!

So I plan to do that NOW (re-read the information from my book)...

I'd LIKE to think that I'll replay the webinar since I have until 12/31 of this year to view it again. However, knowing my lack of self-discipline, plus the fact that I need to sit for two more 2-hour webinars, plus the fact that I've already received my 0.2 ceu's, I don't know that I'll make myself re-take it.

Okay, and NOW I'm going to go back and reply to our weekend posts! LOL

PAM: I'm not an NBA watcher, but I know that those that are are REALLY, REALLY into it! My DH is only into Chiefs football or occasionally golf. And occasionally the Kansas City Royals. But I do know this: It's fun to be around someone who is really PASSIONATE about a sport! It makes the game "come alive"! So I guess my question to you is: Do you sit quietly while watching the NBA on TV or are you talking/yelling/cheering?! C'mon! You can tell us!!!

So... you got to work at the race track Saturday night! This has been quiet the season for rain outs, huh? An hour's drive is quite a distance. Do you have to be there and wait around while they prep the tracks??? And you said you didn't get home until 3 a.m.?!?!?! Geezers! Talk about a late night!!! No wonder you slept in on Sunday morning... sort of!

And what's the update on your TRUCK????

SUE: Thank you for the compliment on my RV living room. I just changed over to a "beachy" theme this past winter... when I was in Florida! LOL

Where did you and your DH go for breakfast on Sunday? We took our grandaughters to a place called The Big Biscuit, where we had a Big Breakfast! (Too much food!!!) And did I understand you correctly: even though you conduct multiple exercise classes during the week, you still WORK OUT on Sundays to do your own workout??? Boy, you sound DEDICATED! Is the workout that you do on Sundays different than what you do during the week for your classes?

Okay, I believe I'm caught up! I just didn't want to bypass any posts that I missed while my granddaughters were here.

I received and APPRECIATE my weekly Team Goodies! Thank you, Pam, for being so consistent and CrEaTiVe with these each and every week!

Okay... so the granddaughters went home last night, and today was MY day to do what "I" wanted to do!!! LOL

Okay, so that was just to sit around drinking coffee this morning while reading my favorite essential oil books... (I'm reading up on the endocrine system; specifically the endocrine glands in the brain.) Fascinating!

And then this afternoon, I sat for two solid hours for one of my Exercise Etc. webinars and earned another 0.2 ceu credits. (FINALLY!) This one was on "High Intensity Interval Training." It was informative. It seemed to have something for every level of trainer from beginner to well experienced. It gave a lot of information for using HIIT with either your individual clients, as well as using it in a group fitness class or bootcamp classes.

I have three more 2-hour webinars to sit through. (My butt hurts when I'm sitting for two hours!!!) The next one that I'm actually looking forward to listening/learning about is "The Functional Shoulder" webinar. And that's because "I" have shoulder issues. Maybe I'll get that one done tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Oh, and maybe y'all remember that I earned ceu credits last month when I completed the home study course on "Full-Body Flexibility." Well, I had BORROWED the study book from the library in order to complete the course. However, I enjoyed the book so much that I ordered my own copy from Amazon today! And this is despite the fact that I had just bought "The Anatomy of Stretching" last fall. Each book has their own merit, so I'm happy to own them BOTH!

The races were on, BUT since the track was such a mess due to the rain, they had to do A LOT of prepping which caused delays. It was around 2:00 AM when I left the track, and 3:00 when I got home. My truck was acting up at the track not wanting to start. It did start and I made it home OK, but it will have to be looked at by a professional before I go out in it again.

Have A GREAT SUNDAY, ALL!

It started raining here around 8:30 PM so I don't know if the races will go on as scheduled tomorrow or not. I will have to wait and see. I always prefer to find out on Friday if the races are canceled because it is just so much easier to know in advance. Gotta wait until Saturday this time. Since the track is an hour away from my house, it may not have even rained there. Again, just gotta wait and see. (I hate waiting!)

Suzy: your home is lovely. Knowing it's an RV , I'm sure a couple preteen girls could cause a mess. I know you'll enjoy their visit.

I don't use a Kindle.

As for this weekend: Saturday a.m. I teach. Sunday a.m. dh and I go out to breakfast. Some time that day, I will probably workout. I get very restless if I don't do some kind of workout on Sunday unless there is a lot going on and I don't have time.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

emoticon We were posting at the same time because I saw the living room shot (very beautiful and nice) and was posting a comment about it.

The exercise you are describing is basically the same as the one that I mentioned except in yours, the person using a band, and I gave the option of using weights. So it can be either/or and even neither depending on the person. I do it in my classes for the triceps, but it also works the rear deltoids.
Gotta go now and get to bed. I keep my Spark Clock two hours earlier than my real time so it is actually 12:48 AM, and bed time.

Here it is, Pam:

1. Take a resistance band (theraband) and place the center of the band in front at your hips.
2. Your hands are at your sides holding the ends of the band. Then, you just do a tricep kickback. So simple! (Yeah right! It depends on the weight of the band you're using, as well as the number of reps!) LOL

I did an online image search and just CANNOT find a photo of anyone doing this exercise with a theraband!

Or maybe my tired mind and eyes are just not cooperating to find one!

Night again!
Susy
P.S. Thanks, Pam, for the nudge to share that exercise!

LOL Oh, Pam! You caught me!

What happened was I "lost" my posting while I was still typing.

Since I'm so tired, I thought, "Okay, I'm not re-typing all that. But I'll type SOMETHING just so I can check in."

Then... after I posted the 2nd attempt, I saw where the original, unfinished post HAD posted! LOL

So... I thought, s..i..g..h.. "I'll just tell them about my granddaughters, and post a photo I took tonight of my living room."

THANK YOU for the suggestions you offered! (Yes, I did find two exercises she can do considering her limitations.) But I'm going to take a thorough look at the ones you shared!!! I love having new ones to draw upon!

I did tell my friend that after she goes through this Beginner's Routine for about a month, then I would put together a set of different exercises. I just really need to progress her in baby steps.

That's one thing that is so neat about having different clients; they all have different requirements. I can see where it keeps a personal trainer on their toes!

Again, thank you, Pam! I'm still chuckling that you caught that post before I edited and changed it! Make sure you go back and see my living room photo! LOL

Night!

Beautiful picture of your home. Enjoy your time with your granddaughters. I will be working at the Y all day tomorrow and until 9:00 PM. Back there on Saturday for a 9:15 Zumba class, and then to the race track until who knows WHAT TIME, and then back to the Y on Sunday for two classes. My weekends are busier than my week days. emoticon

Hi SUSY, Did you finish with the exercise for the rear deltoids that you came up with for your friend? It seems like it sort of stopped before completion, and I am curious to see how the exercise is done.

Just throwing these out there for you, but they are very simple, and might work for your friend. Have her lean forward about 45 degrees with straight arms, palms up, by her sides. Lift the arms up (above the back) and squeeze the shoulder blades with each lift. Handheld weights are optional.

Stand or sit with arms at waist level and in position for bicep curls, elbows tucked into sides and palms facing inward. Rotate single arm outwards keeping the elbow tucked into her side, and squeezing the shoulder blade as the arm goes out. Return to starting position. Handheld weights are optional in this one, too.

Hope these will help.

Just checking in!

Update: My friend cancelled last night. BUT... we will be getting together once she gets back in town in a week to 10 days.

Hey, I have a question... I am a BOOK LOVER! I just love, love, love my books! And a huge portion of my books are exercise, health, nutrition books.

As you would imagine, with living in an RV space is at a premium. But... I am not fond of a Kindle. It's been my understanding that Kindles don't lend themselves very well to displaying charts, lists, photos, etc.

Do any of you have exercise books on a Kindle? If so, what has been your experience?

eek! posted twice!

So... I will just write about my two granddaughters coming to visit for the weekend! We pick them up tomorrow morning, and take them home Sunday night. They are 9 and 11 years old, and they are TALL girls! (Sweet girls too!)

This evening I was thinking about all the things they'll bring with them for the weekend. And I thought, "My living room is going to be overrun!" (Don't forget I have a dog and a cat living with DH and me!)

So for whatever reason, I took a picture and am calling it: "The calm before the storm!" LOL

It's not pictured, but to the right of the photo is where my computer is. So that's where I sit when I'm online!

Okay, so what are everyone else's plans for the weekend?!

Hello Everyone,

FITPRIS - We are so happy to have you join the team. I think country couples dancing would be so much fun. Good Luck and Best Wishes with the recital.

SUSY - I plan to post here every day too. My problem is my life is so routine, that I don't have much of interest to say, but I can always say "HELLO!" Oh, good luck to you, too with you Personal Training with your friend.

SUE - For now, it seems like you are totally happy with where you are living. Florida would be nice though. emoticon

Have a GREAT WEDNESDAY, ALL!

HUGS

Hi all--Hope everyone is having a good week. Start of a new month.

Hey Susie,

To answer your question about the Florida house: We had an offer accepted, but when we had the home inspection there was too much wrong with it. So we walked away. They had made it look like a model home, but here were a lot of things you couldn't see until an inspector got in there. So then we decided we would only buy a new home, and we couldn't find anything we liked enough to even make another trip to look.

Then last fall we were at Myrtle Beach, SC. Some friends of ours from years ago in Michigan live in a 55 and older community there. We visited them and loved the community and their house. They were building new houses there. However, we were going to wait until we were ready to move permanently. instead of just having it for a second house.

In the mean time, I started checking out gyms, and couldn't find any good ones. So now I'm kind of turned off to Myrtle Beach. I want to stay here. We have lived a lot of different places, and for gym opportunities nothing has compared to here. Myrtle Beach only had a very small Gold's Gym. In general, I don't mind Gold's Gyms, but this was a real Mom and Pop old fashioned gym mostly for lifters and only a few classes.

I'm sure that's more info than you wanted to read, but you asked and I couldn't figure out how to make the story shorter.

Hope your upper body training with your friend went well.

Okay... I'm SUPPOSED to be working on upper body exercises for Friend B. I'll be meeting with her tomorrow night and I NEED to get these exercises selected for her TODAY!

But shouldn't I take just 5 minutes and respond to our new June thread??? Yes, I think I should! LOL

PRIS: Great that you found this thread! Yay! I'm beginning to think that you somehow have magical access to MORE than 24 hours in a day because you are ALWAYS accomplishing so many things! I'll bet you're on pins & needles for that recital with 34 kids! Keep us up-to-date on how that's going!

SUE: Quick Question---did you and your husband ever buy a summer/winter house in Florida? It's been ages since you mentioned he wanted to, and I don't recall seeing whether you did or not. I absolutely LOVED being south of Tampa this past winter! Every morning (or most mornings) I woke up and I was WARM... I just love waking up to 65 degree temps! It begins my day much better than feeling like I'm freezing. I don't feel like getting out of bed when I'm cold.

Oh, and KUDOS on that other studio wanting you to do a silks class for them--and BONUS: it's closer to home for you!!!

PAM: Thank you for liking our new-and-improved June topic thread title! I was just so-ooo wanting to see something NEW & FRESH! - - - About trying to match schedules just to go walking with girlfriends: It shouldn't be that HARD! But, alas, I've run into the same thing; it IS a challenge. - - - Well, YAY, on all the hours you're working at the Y! Sorry 'bout the racetrack not being open due to too much rain, but... at least there's the $certainty$ of the Y. Personally, I'd like to LIVE at a gym for about six months to get back into some sort of better shape.

Okay! My more-than-5-minutes break is over and I need to get back to work!

See y'all on the flip side! Tah ta!
Susy

Hello Everyone,

SUSY, Thank you for getting our June Chat Thread up and running. I like the new name of the tread.

I'd also like to welcome our new members to the team. We hope you will stop by this thread and chat with us. We'd like to get to know more about you.

SUSY, it seems like everyone is so busy that it is hard to get together. I have friends who would like to walk, and I do like to walk with friends (because our steady 'girl talk' makes the time fly by, BUT we can't ever seem to get together due to our schedules.

SUE, I am glad things are going well for you with your classes. Any situation that is win/win is AWESOME.

I am still working a gazillion hours a week. In addition to all of my classes, I am working any free hours on the Fitness Floor at the YMCA. So I am at the Y a good portion of seven days or nights each week. I still have the race track job, but we've only been able to race twice since April 1st due to all of the rain we've been having. .

I hope you all have a GREAT TUESDAY!

HUGS
Pam

Happy June! It's hot here. We had a really warm May.

Welcome to our new members. We look forward to getting to know you.

One of our pole studios closed. We didn't cut down classes, but they are all at the one location now. It is the one closer to my house. So I really like that!

The down side is that the closer studio doesn't have high enough ceilings for the silks. That is a bummer.

However, I have been approached by another studio who wants to have silk classes. So I won't have to give up that class. That studio is even closer. So it's a win/win.

Have a great June everyone!

I mentioned in last month's chat thread (or was it April?!) that I have two separate friends who asked me to help them with an exercise routine when I got back into town from traveling. (NOTE: I told both friends I'd help them at no charge.)

Well... here's an update:

Friend A - We got together twice but she wasn't ready to get started. When i showed up, she said, "C'mon! Let's go to lunch and then do a little shopping!" So off we went... Yikes! I am so WEAK! I totally understand when you're not in the mood. There's only one small issue here: I'm leaving town again in about 5 weeks! She doesn't have much time left for me to help her. LOL

Friend B - She works 50+ hours a week, plus travels out of town twice a month on weekends. She's a 4:30 in the morning person and ready to end her day at or before 9 p.m. I'm a night owl, thus I sleep in until about 8 o'clock in the morning. She's at work by 9 a.m. and not home until 6 or a little after. Therefore, we've only gotten together once so far. (She also had a bout with bronchitis which prevented us from meeting up sooner.) I had her fill out 3 questionnaires: the PAR-Q, the Cardiac Risk Stratification, and a detailed health history. From her responses to the questionnaires, as well as her preferences for exercise, I've created an exercise program for her. Now our next hurdle is getting together again so that I can assist her through the exercises and guide her on correct form.

Anyway, it's been fun for me to get back into the groove of actual personal training!

Susy

C'mon in & let's visit! It's JUNE already!!! Can you believe it???

Each month on this team, we send out a brand spankin' new chat thread!

Here's where you can just say "hi!", mention something you're doing in your life (doesn't have to be fitness-related), and/or just comment on someone else's post!

= = If you've never participated before, now's your chance! = =

We just want to stay connected as fitness instructors in our field and support one another.

emoticon So c'mon on in and let's visit over a cup of coffee! emoticon
