Kate....
I've been mulling over what exactly I want to choose as my goal (s).

My "60 Days 'til 60" goal was to get 150 cardio minutes per week, plus two strength training sessions weekly.

Sadly, as soon as my 60 days ended, I stopped tracking and trying to attain that goal. **Got sick (a rundown cold) and then started traveling; so there's THAT as my excuse/reason.

So... I've got an idea rumbling around in my mind. Give me a day or two, and I'll post!

In the meantime...
I'm on "island time" here on the beach in Destin Beach, FL!!! LOL

Yay! So glad to see you there :)

And I'd love to get some feedback and ideas about ways to make it better, or maybe things to back off of.

How's everybody doing today??

It's only going through Christmas, then I'll be planning to start a new one for January based on "walking to Mordor" ;-) (Any exercise can be translated into a # of steps, and everyone will be in a friendly race to Mt Doom with Frodo! hee hee!)

Kate,
I did a quick online search, but couldn't find the author to that quote. Rats.

= I would enjoy joining your FB group, Kate! I rather enjoy the idea of "calling out!"

Gotta rush off....

Good luck with the studies, Pam!! Let us know how it all goes :) I second Susy's "may the force be with you" quote! Maybe go enjoy the movie as a reward break, too ;-)

I'm still pushing through with leading my FB group - when it starts to get TOO quiet, I've started doing what i call "call out Day" (With a disclaimer for any of them to contact me if they prefer I didn't do this to them) but I'll tag each person in the group, with an individualized question to them about their goals (Mary, did you get your morning walk in Monday? Jule, how was dance practice last night? Joy, can you take a picture of that new recipe you were going to try and share it with us? etc) I actually do seem to get more feedback then. Maybe it's the personal touch. My sister says she appreciates it because it does sort of "call her out" if she's slacking, and she feels like I'm her personal cheerleader when I'm interested in her personal goals. So, that's my newest trick for now!

I LOVE that quote! Any idea who it's by? Gonna have to use that one :)

Wow, sorry to hear about that trainer guy! It's amazing how quickly people assume that a certification means the one and only expert. I know it can help, but nothing can replace personal study, passion, and experience! I hope you're enjoying your new location anyway :)

GREAT quote, SUSY! Good Luck with the Challenge!

emoticon I don't think I would like that guy you were training. He sounds 'full of himself.'

Got my first 'training' of three tomorrow. All of the YMCA employees who use the computers are required to go. I will be glad when tis is behind me.

Oh darn! I lost this thread while on the road traveling. And then... once we arrived here in Destin, I've been mesmerized with going to the beach every day! LOL

Okay, let's see:

Pam: Triple UGH on getting hit with several major repairs at once! And now all those re-certifications that are due!!! Yikes! "May the force be with you" while you get through it all. (Star Wars reference since they have a new sequel coming out in the next week or so! LOL)

Kate: A friend asked me to join an online 21-day FB challenge that's being run by a BeachBody coach. She assured me that I didn't have to buy their program--I just had to agree to participate. So... Although there are 17 members in the group, I only see about four participating. I've participated in all them after the very first day. (I didn't get enrolled until near the end of the day--and like I said, I was on the road traveling.)

In fact, today's mini-challenge was to share a quote that we find motivating. So I'll share it here:

"Where I am today...is the result of decisions I have made in the past.
Where I will be in six months... depends on the decisions I make between now and then."

Oh! And one more thing: I originally wanted the personal trainer certification because I was doing a lot of public speaking on health topics, and I also managed a gym where I did a lot of marketing to the public. I felt that having the credentials of a personal trainers certification would not only support my credibility, but it would also boost my belief in myself.

In fact, I have a quick story to relate: I had given my 2-week notice to Snap Fitness and was training my replacement. It was a younger guy. (I had accepted a gym job closer to home.) So I took this guy with me for the next two weeks to show him the ropes. He bragged and bragged and bragged about himself constantly... to me, to anybody that would listen. (By the way, he was a personal trainer already, and I was not certified, but I was doing all the work---and more.) Anyway, when I asked him to step in on the public speaking or the marketing to the public, he just couldn't do it. He only wanted to train clients one-on-one back at the gym. But the thing that got to me was that even though I was giving the public presentations, once he would open his mouth and state that he was a personal trainer, every person seemed to turn to him and start asking questions. It drove me crazy!

I hope it doesn't sound like "sour grapes." I just felt like I had all the study and research and proof of what I was presenting... and he had all the testosterone bravado, which people latched on to. s..i..g..h..

Okay, that's it for me tonight!
Night y'all!

Yes, Happy December to ALL!

Yes, this is NOT a very good time to have extra expenses. I will just have to cut back more than I already cut back.

I haven't done anything like a challenge on Face Book. I hope participation will soon pick up for the challenges.

I saw your post about your interest in getting a Personal Trainer Certification. It was many years ago when I got certified, and it expired a long time ago. I really didn't intend to be a personal trainer, I just got the course for the CEC's. Although I learned a lot of useful information, I never pursued Personal Training. I knew that SUSY was certified, and I see that she posted a response. I agree with her about the ACE certification. When I can no longer teach the gazillion classes that I teach each day, I may get certified again in Personal Training. This time I WILL get more involved with it.

I am out of here for now. I hope you all have a GREAT THURSDAY!

Love it :) Happy December, everyone!!

Pam - yikes! Never fun when you have to shell out for expenses. And a double whammy?! Ug!

Hm, in my life... well, work has actually been a little slower lately (thank goodness!) as I'm the only dietitian at our little hospital. My co-worker had a bit of an anxiety attack after a typhoon knocked power out for 6+ weeks in August, and she moved back to the states. Our new help won't get here till Jan - so when our census was a bit lower these last few days, it's been a breath of fresh air!! No yoga teaching lately -- turns out, yoga was causing more back pain for me than my p90x and Insanity workouts! Who da thunk??

And I am running my monthly facebook challenge group for a small group -- have any of you done something like that before? They all seemed so excited to join, but participation on the page is low. I try to post daily challenges, and little silly pics or information, questions... but I suppose that's a lot like these SP threads - several hundred people on a team, and maybe only 5% get chatty ;-) Maybe I need to bribe them with points that lead to winning something small like a $5 Amazon card... I suppose you all experience the same sort of frustration when you want to cheer people on and help them change, and they just are their own worst enemy!

Good luck with your certification renewals, Pam!!

It really IS hard to believe that 2015 has passed by so FAST! Where does the time go? I hope everyone is looking forward to a FANTASTIC 2016!

The last month or so has been busy and crammed with 'unexpected events' for me. Don't you just LOVE 'unexpected events' that seem to always pop up at the most busy or inconvenient time? NOT!

While in the process of making arrangements to get a new roof put on the house, my furnace went 'ka-put.' Both the roof and the furnace were over 20 years old, but I didn't expect to have to replace BOTH at the same time. The new furnace has been installed, and that job is complete. I am still getting all of the loose ends together to get the new roof. Also, it has to stop raining!

Three MANDATORY trainings at the YMCA are coming up during the next two weeks, and since I work at other gyms, that has involved rearranging my schedule to clear up time to attend the trainings. That wasn't easy since those who might would have been available to substitute teach are busy getting ready for the holidays.

I have two certification renewals coming up real soon, so in January, I will have to start working on that.

So December is going to be very busy. I guess that is why time seems to 'fly by' so fast.

Have a GREAT rest of the year! MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL!

C'mon in & let's visit! It's our LAST MONTH of 2015 already!!! Can you believe it???

Each month on this team, we send out a brand spankin' new chat thread!
***Unless we f-o-r-g-e-t to send out a new monthly chat thread.... oops!

Here's where you can just say "hi!", mention something you're doing in your life (doesn't have to be fitness-related), and/or just comment on someone else's post!

You can even share with us what your plans are for the month!

= = If you've never participated before, now's your chance! = =

We just want to stay connected as fitness instructors in our field and support one another.

So c'mon on in and let's visit over a cup of coffee!
