Understandable! I am the same way (whiney and complain-y) when I get fatigued. You are doing great with your Spark Points and your Fitness Minutes. Keep on Keeping On!

Hi Pam! To answer your question... Yes and no.

Until the last few days, I had been deleting the Fitbit's automatic addition of my time spent getting steps. Why? Because most of the time it doesn't reflect the true amount of time I've spent.

Anyway, I've let a few days slip by where I left it on there.

But to tell you the truth, I don't think I can keep up the 10,000 steps each day. I have a bum ankle from the polio I experienced as a child. All this walking is causing my feet to hurt. And I'm not concentrating on my strength training!!! (I did do a 30 minute Kelly Coffey Meyer dvd the other day, but I NEED to get regular with it!)

One other thing: When I'm fatigued, I'm whiney and complain-y.
...uh oh...

Okay, so here's an update on what I *was* doing (for fitness)... and what I've been doing this past 10 days.

We arrived in this RV park and knew there were going to be 7 RV couples from our Hitchhiker RV Club here. (Which is why we picked this park to come to.) Well, after the first few days of rain, rain, rain, we started getting out and about. That's when I found out that MOST of the 7 couples had FitBits! If not both spouses, then at least one.

Next, my immediate neighbor started ribbing me about how he was going to out-do me in steps. Well, my competitive spirit kicked in, and then the next thing you know, I've got each of these people on my Friends list. (Before we got to this RV park, I barely knew the ins and outs of my Fitbit... I was just wearing it on my wrist and thought "No big deal.")

My feet are killing me! I'm up late at night checking my stats and checking the stats of my friends to see who's ahead.

But to answer the other part of my earlier statement: I was SUPPOSED to be doing strength training and cardio. I had plans to get a base of strength and work up from there. Alas, I've gotten side-tracked and am spending all my time with these steps!

Anyway, just thought I'd update. I also haven't been going back to Silver Sneakers classes. (eek!)

Kate: I think you could be on to something about an official start date in the spring for working on one's bikini body! At least it would be another "push" for people to be all in the same mindset at the same time!

Pam: I am so-ooo glad I don't have to worry or deal with snow. I'm sorry that you do.

The update on my Silver Sneakers attendance... well, the instructor has an earlier class with all older women than me. They do more weights, balls, steppers, etc. He invited me to that class last week---and I could not keep up! It was embarrassing!

Hello Everyone,

Very early morning check in. Snow was predicted for last night, so when I woke up a little while ago, I wanted to see of any had fallen. Thank goodness there is nothing there YET!

SUSY, does your Silver Sneakers instructor offer the option to stand during the exercises? I encourage my participants to stand as much as possible, and quite a few stand for most of the class. I also include 3 or 4 minutes of Cardio using no equipment, and another Cardio segment using the small balls. We are in a large room, so at least once during the program, I get them ALL up, and they walk around the room. Three or four times during each class, I get them to sit down and stand back up again, first very slow and then faster. Even my students with walkers and canes do this, too. Most of my participants use 3, 4, or 5 pound weights and the green or red band. Since this is a class designed for seniors, and since I am a senior (and not some '20 something' teaching seniors) I PUSH them, and actually, they WANT to be pushed.

No snow yet, so I am going to finish up here and go back to bed. Have a GREAT SUNDAY ALL!

It's too bad there can't be as much of an energy to commitment through out the year a few times. I guess sometimes in the spring, people get that "bikini body" fever, but maybe we should push to make an official start date ;-) haha!

What's Silver Sneakers? Awesome that you pushed yourself afterwards. I think I have to do that today, too. I did a Pilates Fix Extreme, but either I was doing something wrong, or that workout just isn't as intense as the others in the program... so I added 10 minutes of Hard Core DVD, and am going to try to walk at least 7500 steps today, if I can find some time.

I know! I love how EVERYONE is doing SOMETHING for their health, and we're all on Day 1 together! There's so much contagious energy around the beginning of January that's like no other time during the year...

Well... I attended a Silver Sneakers class this morning. I've had three different SS instructors back during the fall; so I knew they all presented a little bit differently.

While I learned a few new moves, I didn't break a sweat at all this morning. So I came home and did 30 minutes of a Leslie Sansone dvd, plus I did about 12 minutes of yoga moves. I was sweating by the time I was done!!!

Next time I go, I may bring my own weights, resistance band. And I might just try to see if I can put more 'zing' into it from the back of the room. If that doesn't do it for me, I can always go out to where the gym equipment is and all the free weights and then do my own thing. (But I like being with other people!!!)

Okay, over and out! I gotta get in bed. Early morning tomorrow!

Love the energy and inspiration that comes with the New Year! I'm quite excited :)

Fitness-wise, my goal is to make it to my goal weight but the end of the year. Twenty pounds away, so I think it's quite do-able! I'm doing the 21 Day Fix Extreme program right now, so the first step in that overall goal is to not skip a single day of it, and follow the diet plan. So far, so good, buuuut, it's only day 2 ;-)

Career-wise: I just need to take time to contemplate that. My job currently isn't bad by any means, but it's not rewarding or fulfilling to me. My mom always told me that the job was just a means to an end - a way to make money so that I COULD do those other things I wanted. But I find by the end of the day, I'm kind of melancholy and tired, and so that just doesn't feel right to me. I'd like to be enthused about my job, and feel excited about it at least some of the time!

Personal: trying to listen to more personal development type audio books, or uplifting spiritual books, exercise/health books, or other positive self-growth things. I love my fiction for sure, but want to make sure to mix it in with other things :)

What are some of your favorite books?

Hi SUSY and LISA MARIE!

LISA MARIE, I am really glad that you are back with us. I know you are busy with your classes. You will probably be 'swamped' with participants when you return. My classes are always larger at the beginning of the new year. Unfortunately, not all of them stick with it. I understand though because 'Life Gets In The Way!'

My cat, Max who is 10 years old, has a bacterial infection. He was looking 'droopy' on Friday so I took him to the vet today. He has a liquid antibiotic and a small tablet for nausea (if needed). It is very hard to get liquid medication into a cat, and even harder to get a tablet in a cat. We are working on it though.

I am ready for my classes to resume but I have sort of liked having a couple of hours of free time each day and/or night. Of course 'free time' does not bring in an income so I will be right back in there on Monday.

Have a GREAT SUNDAY, ALL!

HUGS
Pam

Hi there Lisa Marie and Pam! Thanks for posting on our new Coffee Chats for a new month (and a new year)!!!

Yes, it IS always something, isn't it, Lisa Marie? Eventually, things will get sorted out and you will hopefully get a rest break. Be sure to let us know when you get your new routines done! I know that will put new excitement back into your classes for you!

Pam, I hear ya on needing to get some studying done! I am STILL dragging my feet on the ACE Senior Fitness Specialty Certification. I keep saying, "when things slow down," or "when we get settled into one place" (instead of our constant traveling. Oh! And my CPR certification is going to be due in less than two months too! Oy!

So there are automatically two of my 2016 goals:

emoticon CPR re-certification by 2/28/16
emoticon Complete final 3 components of Senior Fitness Specialty Certification ASAP

Do I have more 2016 goals? Yep! I just love MAKING New Year's Eve resolutions... but then completing them is a total different story! LOL

I did look back at my 2015 resolutions, and I felt pretty good to see that I *did* complete four of the seven things.

Anyway, gotta rush off. Will check in again later!

Me....well..busy busy....just as always. If it wasn't enough with the holidays..I was looking forward to my 'break' from classes to work on new routines and such...well I guess someone had 'other' plans for me. My father in law has been in the hospital since the Monday before Christmas. Luckily he caught it soon enough..it is his gall bladder..but he will be okay..just a long recovery. Then my son needs rides back and forth to work..just another thing to fit into my schedule. All is good though. Back to classes this week. Wishing all a great 2016!!

Lisa Marie :)

Hello Everyone,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope everyone has a HAPPY, HEALTHY, and BLESSED NEW YEAR!

SUSY, Thank you for getting this thread up and running. You have done GREAT keeping our monthly chat thread going! Now what WE have to remember to do is to POST HERE regularly.

I have two certifications that are due for renewal in March, so I hope I won't wait until the last minute to get those completed. Of course I probably will, so I will be worrying about that rather than just going ahead and getting it done. I think my CPR is also due around that time. Always something!

We've been on a reduced schedule during the past two weeks. Everything will resume starting on Monday. I will go back to teaching 4 or 5 classes each day rather than the 1 -2 or none that I have been teaching during the holidays. I hope I am 'up' for it.

That's about it for me. Take care all, and keep in touch.

HUGS
