Hey everyone,

My ds was released Friday afternoon and went back to work today. He's staying with us for right now. I'm trying to help him pay for his therapy visits and whatever else. This was good for both of us really. He hit rock bottom and finally realizes what is triggering him. For me it was a wake up call that he needs to be monitored closer and I need to be more aware of the signs. We had a good talk and he has down moments but I think things will get better now. He's been in therapy for several months now and will be continuing with that. I'm just trying to live one day at a time and not stress about everything. I'm a big worrier!
Yes, this is Destiny's dad. Everything is such a mess. She's not happy living with her mom it seems. When we have her on weekends she says she doesn't want to go home. It breaks my heart. It's so hard to know if the stuff she tells us is accurate since she's only 4. The good news is my ds gets her the day before Thanksgiving and will have her until Sunday. The same for Christmas. I'm excited. I bought her some craft things we can do for Christmas yesterday.

I'm so looking forward to retirement. I wonder if I would be so susceptible to the sinus infections and bronchitis if I was getting 8 hours of sleep and not stressing all the time and really taking care of myself?

Have fun in Florida, that warm weather will feel so good after the cold you're getting.

I'm ready to switch to the hot tub! Sounds so good about now.
When is your surgery Donna? It's coming up soon isn't it? Hope you're not in too much pain.

Shirley, I'm so sorry your son is having such a difficult time of it. When my brother was divorced, it was like a death in the family. I can't imagine going through that experience being mentally fragile.

The body shop I used last year when I hit a deer always details their clients' vehicles. I really liked that place, but I don't want a repeat experience! Besides, they are too far away now.

Don't know where these weeks are flying. Mom and I have been walking every day and I finally am consistently getting more than 10,000 steps every day. Amazing what happens when you aren't glued to a computer all day!

We leave in a bit more than a week to spend Thanksgiving with my brother in Florida. Definitely bringing swim suits!

So...who is ready to switch to the hot tub? It's not quite winter, but it sure feels like it here!

Shirley, I am so sorry to hear about your son. No wonder you were so worried. Is this Destinys Dad?
I hope things improve for him quickly.

Hi everyone!

Sure has been quiet on here this week.

I'm not sure why my immune system seems to be so weak Donna. I'm doing better, the steroids always help but they sure mess with me and my blood sugar.

My ds was admitted to a mental health facility an hour away from us Wed. evening, hopefully they will release him into my care tomorrow. He called me a couple of times yesterday and seems to be doing a lot better thank goodness. I think hitting rock bottom and ending up in this facility for a few days will help him to put things into perspective. He has a long road ahead of him but I never want to see him go through this again. Leaving him there Wed. was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. This has been the worst year for him. I'm just trying to hang in there and not stress. LOL! He suffers from depression, anxiety and is bipolar. He's on meds and was doing great.

Cold and rainy here today. I finally got my car back from the body shop yesterday. They had to replace the whole back end. I didn't think there was that much damage. it took them 4 weeks to get it done. They even detailed my car, I was floored. It sure needed it, I was totally blown over with surprise. The guy told me they always do it for their female customers.

Shirley, I am so sorry to hear you are so sick again. It sure seems to be a weakness in your system. I hope they can get to the bottom of this for you.

Ah, the worries about our children as they go through very tough times. We will all keep him and yiu in our prayers.

Hang in there......

I hope everyone is doing well.

I finally gave in and went back to the Dr. on Thursday and she told me what I already knew, I have bronchitis on top of the sinus infection. She started me on steroids, they have sure messed up my blood sugar. Thankfully this morning I took the last pill and I'm finally getting to feel better.

Please keep my family in your prayers. Going through some very difficult times with my ds. I just don't know what to do anymore but pray. He's really hit rock bottom now.
By the grace of God I got some sleep last night and made it to work but it was a tough evening. It's going to get worse before it gets better I'm afraid. I just want to get through the rest of this week at work without having a break down. I'm running out of sick and vacation days and I just can't afford not to be here.

Hope everyone has a great day!

The year I had surgery just before Christmas, we bought a little tabletop tree. That's all we had. I sure wasn't up for putting up a tree. Last year I wasn't planning on putting up a tree at all, (I suffer from severe depression during the holidays) but ended up doing it at the last minute for my granddaughter. It actually turned out to be a good Christmas after all.
We'll put up a tree this year I guess, but mostly for Destiny.

I don't know why I keep getting sinus infections. I might end up going to an ENT if this keeps up. It's always on one side of my face, the side where I have a deviated septum. I'm sure that's not helping any. I think I'm going to have to go see my Dr. the cough is just relentless, I've been having terrible coughing fits. I hate steroids but I'm thinking that's what I may need.

I can't believe Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. Time sure does fly. I'm not sure what we're doing yet, I'll just be so glad to have three days off of work. We usually only get two days but this year they gave us back Wednesday. Yay!

Shirley, so sorry to hear you were sick again. My goodness sinus infections seem to never leave you. Glad you are feeling better now.

No baking here this Christmas. I think I will be lucky to have w a tree up. I definitely wonít be able to climb anything to get everything out of our storage room. Dh could not care less. I will just be so happy to have this surgery over with.

Off to the pool shortly. I will go as long as I can....

Hey everyone,

So good to catch up on everyone's news.
I've been sick again with a sinus infection that went into bronchitis. I left early on Friday, went to Urgent Care Sat. and Monday I woke up with bronchitis so missed that day too. I was doing better but for some reason as soon as I walked into the office this morning I had a horrible coughing fit! It's a good thing I was here alone, they would have sent me home immediately. I'm running out of sick days.

Now my gallbladder has started hurting. I give up! Always something it seems.

Laurie, you can just keep that snow to yourself. I wouldn't mind having a day or two if we have snow days. Shopping on a Monday afternoon? I bet it was fun and you missed a lot of crowds too I bet. I have finished shopping for Destiny. Lord knows I don't need to buy her one more thing. A month or so ago I saw a toy stroller at Walmart but didn't get it. We were in Walmart the other night and I told dh I needed to go and get that stroller before they were gone. They had one left! I also got her an educational toy and ordered a few things off Amazon. Everything is hiding in my closet. Not having much of a Christmas otherwise. We are pretty broke after the move and my dh has to have a procedure done that insurance won't pay for, just doesn't seem right, it's something he has to have done.

Donna, surgery is rapidly approaching. I don't blame you for wanting to go to water aerobics as long as you can. How long is your recovery supposed to be? Do you get to come home or do you go to rehab?

Charlotte, I used to do tons of Christmas baking, I love to bake sweets, unfortunately just thinking about it automatically seems to add 10 pounds. I don't do hardly any anymore. I might bake a pumpkin pie for dh and I always make Magic Bars, it's a family tradition, I could eat a whole pan all by myself.

I guess I should get back to work. Have a great day everyone!

Donna - those two weeks will fly by hopefully. Hope your pre-op briefing goes well. My 6 month checkup is the same day as your surgery, so will be thinking of you for sure.

Laurie - hmmm, cranberry bread. Just the thing to use up the last few packages of frozen cranberries lounging in the freezer.

Thoughts of Christmas baking are dancing in my head as the church is having a big seasonal bake sale on Nov. 30 as part of the community's Breakfast with Santa. I'm a better buyer than a baker for those things, plus the scales are telling me I shouldn't even be thinking of any of it... emoticon emoticon

Busy week coming up with choir practices, church meetings and just keeping the home fires burning.

Cranberry bread sounds yummy.....

Snowed again last evening, but it all melted. This is way too early to be this cold and snowy. At least the ground is warm enough that it melts quickly. Donna, we do keep the less used car out in the parking lot, but I won't want a bunch of snow piling up on it. It turns to ice and is twice as much work to chip it off. And I'll need to move it when they plow the parking lot.

Ok, enough of the weather report. We went shopping with my sister yesterday and it felt like such a luxury to be out on a Monday afternoon. I got a couple Christmas gifts already emoticon And we found cranberries this weekend, so cranberry bread will be baked. I guess if it feels like winter, I'll get in the mood emoticon

Surgery is getting closer, Donna. It will be so good to be moving toward feeling better, hey?

Havenít been here in awhile and not sure why. That seems to happen sometimes.
Things are progressing here towards my surgery in 16 days. I am having trouble walking and now have to take a wheelchair cart in the grocery store. This has been too long a decline. The surgeon said my hip was quite bad and is not surprised I am having trouble doing my exercises. I am still, going to the pool which my hubby thinks I should not do anymore. I will do it as long as I can as I think it is good for me to move in the water.
Laurie walking the halls works if that is what you need to do. Also I would leave whatever car you donít use much outside and park the one that you use all the time indoors. It would save you from cleaning the windows every time you went out.
Shirley glad the commute is going better for you. I always found you just had to get in your lane and go. Most drivers go way to fast.

And, again, it's snowing. I'm very grateful that I do not have to commute to a job anymore! If this winter continues like this, I see hibernation in my future.

Donna, I forgot to answer your question--yes, that is the view from our apartment. I didn't know if I'd like living at the entrance and on the parking lot, but we really do like the location. Not as picturesque as the condo, but interesting. I guess I'm a nosy neighbor emoticon

We are staying in today, getting a few things done and walking the halls later. I did two miles yesterday for the first time since injuring my toes. I could feel it by the end, but it felt good to walk again. Now I have to keep it up. My eating discipline has flown out the window and I need to get the pounds that I found lost!

But you're retired Laurie, now you can stay up late watching TV and not have to worry about staying awake the next day at work! I'm hoping the next few years fly by and I will finally get to where you are.

It was down in the 30s here last night too. The temp dropped over 40 degrees yesterday!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Another snowy day here in the frozen tundra. It's too early! At least I don't have to go out in it. I should go out and brush off my car later, though. We only have one parking space in the underground parking and we park Mom's car there. I could get a spot if I wanted to pay an extra $40/month, but I could do a lot with that money. So I'll deal with outdoor parking. But if this week is any indication, it's going to be a long winter!

We stayed up to watch the last game of the World Series last night. Too late!

Donna, three weeks until surgery! It'll fly by and I know you will be so happy to have all that behind you. How is the pain? How is your dh doing?

The pizza lunch turned out to be nothing, basically just to say good-bye to one of the secretaries who got a promotion. Come Monday we will be down to 5 full time people and one part-time retired person. And to think that 13 years ago we had 16 people! Of course yesterday we were all given extra duties to do until they replace her. Mine is fairly simple, thank goodness. And as you all know I have an assistant, I think he'll be resigning soon. He has been studying to be an IT person and the test is Friday. I'm pretty sure if he passes that the district will be hiring him. I don't know what will happen, I really just need him for back up when I'm out so I don't know if they will hire someone to take his place or not. He's not much help to me. It would be nice to hire someone that wanted to learn my job to take some of the pressure off me. He rushes through everything and then I have to go back and redo it all so I just do it all now. He also doesn't listen to me. I'm constantly having to go behind him.

Even though I had gotten a flu shot a month a go, it sure felt like that's what I had. I know some pills can cause flu like symptoms, so I'm not sure if it was the pill or if I did have some kind of a flu like virus. The reactions listed didn't have those symptoms. I always read the pamphlet that the pharmacy gives out to see what side effects the medicine might have. After I read that info I wonder if I really want to take that pill. Then you have to wonder after you combine it with several other pills what all of that is doing to you on the inside. Thankfully this pill was just to relieve a minor nuisance and not something I have to take.

Still warm here, we're actually getting rain. Today was my first drive into work in the rain plus fog. I stayed in the slow lane and went slow, I did pretty good. I hate driving in the rain, I just can't see to drive in the dark and the rain, thankfully today wasn't a heavy downpour. I took the rental car to the rental place Sat. and insisted they change the windshield wipers, they were horrible. It was a bit of a hassle but they finally did it. So glad I did. It's supposed to get down in the 30s later this week, high in low 60s.

Laurie your drive to Door County sounds like a good day. I love taking drives through the back country and avoiding the busy highways. The snow looks picturesque. Was this picture taken from your condo? It looks similar to ou place.

Charlotte one thing about the snow it sure brightens up the roads for driving. I guess winter is here for Manitoba.

Shirley I am glad you realized what was causing you to feel so sick. Has the doctor prescribed something else for you?

I had my clinic st the hospital yesterday for my surgery.it was two hours and well worth the time. Three weeks to surgery......

Laurie - snowy morning here. No escaping the white stuff now, as the temps are dropping and the sun is on vacation. Quite a contrast between your two photos. The snow can stay as far as I'm concerned as most of our yard cleanup is done thank goodness, even mowing the long grass around the buildings. A new riding mower is on our shopping list for spring though as the old one packed it in for good.

Shirley - I'm curious about the pizza lunch too. Did it have any strings attached? I hear you about the drug side effects. They can be worse than what the drug is supposed to cure.

Shirley, either feast or famine at work, hey? What was the pizza lunch about at work?

Drugs...sometimes I wonder what the drug industry is doing to us, especially when you hear the long list of whacky side effects that come with the new ones. When I was in nursing school and we had a question on a test about side effects, we were pretty safe to say nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Yesterday we drove up to Door County, mostly to get cherries because we have been out for quite a while. It was chilly and overcast, and the trees were past peak, but that meant there weren't too many people around. We went to Cave Point and there were a few hikers around.

We drove through some pretty back roads to get there. Had to stop at our favorite winery, too!

And today I woke up to an inch or so of snow!

Hello out there! Hope everyone is doing well.

That reaction I had to that new prescription was bad. I didn't realize how sick it was making me until I quit taking it. All weekend I battled with sore lymph nodes, achy, fatigue, sore neck and shoulders. Thankfully when I woke up yesterday I felt so much better. It helped having Destiny around this weekend too. She always cheers me up.

I'm all caught up at work. Not sure what to do with myself, it's going to be a long day! Hopefully one of my orders will be coming in soon so I can get all of that in our database.

Have a great day everyone!

I wish it was Friday! For one thing I get to see Destiny this weekend but also because I haven't been feeling so hot this week. Yesterday I think I finally figured out it might be the new prescription my Dr. started me on last week so I didn't take it last night. My stomach is better today so far, but it's early in the day. I just want to stay home and sleep. I've been staying up too late at night. Need to get back on my schedule.

We are having a pizza lunch today, I'm kind of wondering what's going on. We never just have lunch together for just the heck of it. Lately, every time they call us together like this means that there's some kind of announcement and lately they've been big ones. It was just Tuesday that one of the secretary's said she had gotten a promotion so other than telling us we're all going to have extra duties until she's replaced is all I can think of.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Laurie - sounding like your retirement is off to a great start. Enjoying the fall colours, laying in a wine and cherry supply - I like your priorities! Any cruises coming up?

Shirley - Speaking of priorities, Laurie's right. The powers that be can't expect one person to do the work of three or four. In one of my former workplaces, we worked to rule for several days to get that point across to the bosses.

Donna - any surgery date yet?

My main project today is cobbling together a Hallowe'en costume for a coffeehouse my Pops choir is performing. Probably something zombie-like as our 3 songs have a monster theme.

Shirley, they are going to have to start telling you what you should prioritize at work, because it's not ALL going to get done!

Donna and Charlotte are right--69 calls for shorts! We are still getting so much rain. It's flooding north of us and it doesn't look good for next spring. With the water levels so high, once the snow melts in spring they will only go higher.

I'm definitely sleeping in! It's actually light out when I get up. I've been so busy this past week I wonder how I ever squeezed in a job. It's a slower pace of busy, though. Tomorrow or Friday we might take a drive up to Door County to see the fall colors and restock our cherry supply...and wine emoticon

emoticon so right, Donna. I'd love to see a 69F day here too especially with all this rain and snow. Well, the snow has disappeared thank goodness and we're back to autumn but it's still raining. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

On a more positive note, a friend and I went to hear our favourite mystery writer, Louise Penny last evening. The event was sold out and the venue (Knox United Church on Edmonton St. Wpg if you know it, Donna) was full to bursting - both levels. Still she made us all feel like we were sitting in her living room chatting. Lots of laughs and great distraction for my friend who goes for knee replacement surgery tomorrow.
Penny's new book (#15) is called A Better Man, well worth a read if you're interested in murder mysteries.

Talk about the office getting smaller, one of the secretary's announced yesterday during our meeting that she has taken another job in the district. We'll be down to 5 people plus one part time person in the next couple of weeks so until they hire someone we're all going to have to double up at work to cover her. Not sure when they will replace her or the coordinator that got promoted. There's a rumor going around that the district is thinking about placing a hiring freeze on central office people and of course that means us too. I was wondering why she has been so happy and friendly to me lately, now I know. LOL!

Is the pool helping Donna?

Laurie, what have you been up to since you have retired? Sleeping in? I know you're enjoying not having to commute to work anymore.

How's the weather Charlotte? There's a cold front coming in today, the high is supposed to be 69! Sad to say that's a cold front for those of us living in the south. As long as it's not raining when I have to do my commute in the morning I'm fine.

I guess I better get some work done, have a good day!

Glad you were able to get away Shirley. Itís god for both of you!

It really is surprising how companyís can reduce their staff so much and still expect the same quality work. I know you are not alone in this for sure. You just have to have the attitude of doing what you can.

We had a nice outing yesterday with our friends. We met for lunch/brunch. It then made dinner very easy. I had made some butternut squash soup which was just fine for me.

Heading to the pool shortly......

Happy Monday Everyone!

DH and I went out of town for the weekend to de-stress. It was nice, the weather wasn't the greatest Sat. but yesterday was better, we stopped at a National State Park here in Georgia, my kids have been with Boy Scouts but I had never been. We couldn't see much because of the fog but what we could see was beautiful! The leaves were just starting to change up in the mountains.

Donna, This is the way my life has been at work for the last 3 years. I've gotten used to it. This year has been worse because the people in the superintendent's office purchased some books that are to be housed in their libraries. I have to find the record for each book, make changes and then get it into the system. They have sent out a lot so they're keeping me super busy and now the librarians are figuring out cataloging is part of my job so I've been getting lots of books from them too. I do have an asst. but I found out early on he rushes through things and makes mistakes and then I have to go behind him to make sure he did it right and correct his work. So I quit asking because I can do it in half the time it takes him.
When I first started in this dept. 13 years ago there were 16 of us and now we're down to 6 people and a part time person so we all do two jobs. Mine is just time consuming. I'd rather be busy because the day goes by faster.

Shirley thst is so cute about Destiny. My hubby would, have done the same Thing!

Once again they seem to pile more work on you. You really need to say something Ro your supervisor. You canít be two people.

Off to the pool again this morning. I am not sure how long I can do this before my surgery. I will until I cannot as I know it is very good for me.....

I'm so happy for you Laurie, can't wait to hear all about your travels! I can't wait until I retire in a few years. I bet the alpacas were cute, can't wait to see what you do with the yarn!

Donna so sorry to hear about your water being shut off, I'm trying to do the same catching up on clothes. How two people can create that much laundry in one week is beyond me.
I also dug out my winter clothes so I'm creating more laundry washing it. I hope you can find a housekeeper soon.

Someone told me the weather in Georgia is bipolar and I have to agree! Supposed to be 70 today, a high of 55 tomorrow and 76 on Sunday. Thankfully I didn't put away all of my summer clothes. Tomorrow it's supposed to be raining. It's been down in the 40s the last two nights, I woke up freezing last night even with the furnace on. Time to get out the comforter.

Last weekend was the Fall Festival in the town we live in. We had Destiny last weekend and my ds entered her in a costume competition so he bought her a pretty princess dress. Everyone said she was just adorable and a photographer for the newspaper stopped and asked to take her picture. We didn't really think she would make it in, but she did! My ds was so excited he went out and bought 10 newspapers! Too funny.

Back to work. I'm trying to get caught up but have decided it's just impossible! I've become very popular this year cataloging books for the librarians in the schools and now the district has me doing the same thing for books they are sending out to the schools to be housed in the library. I've been so busy I can't get the other part of my job done. I decided this morning I'm going to have to make time today.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Laurie, welcome to retirement and being able to enjoy a coffee while sparking in the morning.

Our water was shut off in our building yesterday so the plan today is to tackle a large mound of wash after our company last weekend.

Everything is a struggle right now so it takes me so long to do things. I am in the process of looking for a cleaning lady to get me through the next year. My hip, surgery canít come soon enough.....

The first day of retirement was rather exhausting! We enjoyed visiting the store at the alpaca farm and I bought a bag of alpaca wool to be creative with. And I bought more yarn... Just what we needed, more yarn. But I have Christmas gift plans for that yarn, so it will not live at our house for long! Met with an investment guy so I can consolidate my retirement savings and that took a lot longer than I expected. We ended up staying out later than we have in a long time! I can't see that retirement will be at all boring emoticon

Right now I'm enjoying the peace and quiet with a cup of coffee and contemplating a much more leisurely day.

emoticon congrats on your retirement Laurie. I sure didn't miss those pre-dawn wake-ups. I used to wait for my ride at the end of our lane at 6:30 am (which was "fun" in the winter for sure) Anyway, the first morning of my retirement dh put balloons and a big sign in my place saying "RETIRED - Sleeping in!" That day was 20 years ago, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. And don't worry you'll find lots to do!

We celebrated our first white Thanksgiving thanks to a Colorado low which brought us a three day snowstorm (Thursday to Saturday) - heavy wet stuff that's downed trees, power poles and made driving just about impossible. We survived better than most - lost power for about an hour the first day, but others not so lucky. Winnipeg and farther south and west got the worst of it and the provincial power grid is badly damaged. The Premier declared a general state of emergency. Repair crews are coming in from Ont., Sask and Minnesota to help. Thank goodness the temps were only around freezing, so the cattle sheltered OK in the bush and ate leaves & snow. By Sat am they were all in the yard looking for hay though. Warmed up since so we're getting back to autumn. So strange to see green grass and coloured leaves with the snow.

Shirley, what a stressful day for you all. I don't think I've heard of a divorce not being granted in court these days. Seems like that part is just a formality anymore.

Glad you finally got some rain. We are still getting too much. We turned on our heat over the weekend. Saw some snow (ICK!)...twice! It didn't stick, though, and we are supposed to be back up to the 60's for the weekend, and rain, of course.

First day of retirement!!! I have to drive down and turn in my laptop. They are having pizza at the office--for me to celebrate and them to mourn emoticon . My boss was still telling me yesterday that I could do some report coding for her whenever I want.

On the way home we are visiting an alpaca farm and I'm hoping to get some wool roving to make some warm slippers or mittens...since I have time now. First thing I did yesterday was delete the early morning alarm from my Fitbit emoticon I really don't think that it will hit me until Monday morning when I sleep until it's light out instead of rolling out of bed in the predawn hours.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to catch you up on my ds's court date yesterday. Unfortunately the judge who was supposed to be there was out sick so we ended up with a different judge much to my ds's lawyers dismay. After nearly 4 hours of a closed hearing the judge who was old school the lawyer said, decided that my granddaughter would go back with her mom and the divorce wasn't granted either. This is all temporary thank goodness, so it's a wait and see game right now - it's a long story.

That's about all of my news. Just glad yesterday is over.

Thanks for sending the rain down our way, we are getting some much needed rain. There's a cold front coming in, last night it got down in the 60s, tonight it's supposed to be in the 40s. What a shock to the system! We will probably have to turn the heat on tonight.

Good morning all and finally a sunny one after a month of mostly rain. We're starting to grow gills! I agree about driving in the rain. Not only the weather conditions are challenging especially at night but also the drivers seem extra impatient.

Donna - are you on any pain meds for your hip? Your surgery date can't come soon enough I bet. I have my six-month check up on Friday. Still having some balance issues, but am managing well on the whole. The doc should be pleased.

A lovely young doe deer paid us a visit this morning - such dainty creatures.

Shirley glad to see you are settled in your new home. No one likes to drive in the rain but we all have to do it once in awhile. I particularly donít like driving in the rain at night.

My hip is really bothering me and my surgery canít come too soon.

Where are you going on your cruise Laurie? A $1 deposit, wow! That's a fantastic deal. I hope someday me and my dh will be able to go on a cruise. Every time we go on vacation I feel like we need to be visiting family.
How's your foot? Is it any better?

They put the spot where our washer and dryer go up on a slab on top of the regular floor so I'm really having trouble reaching the bottom of it. I'd probably be okay otherwise. It's amazing that two loads of towels are not just one big load now. I'm really liking it.

No rain here. We finally got the lawn mowed this weekend and the bushes trimmed. I decided if we would just get some rain than our grass would look nice. I told my dh the other day that it can rain any day it wants but not until after 7 am when I'm at work already. I hate driving in the rain. The temps did cool down over the weekend, the low 80s instead of high 90s! A real cold front. LOL! I'll take it. I think we broke 91 days of record high temps this summer, it was hot!

Time to get to work!

I really am looking forward to retirement. I like my job, but I'll like the freedom retirement gives better. We've had a cruise booked for March for a long time. They were running a $1 deposit special while we were moving, so I hopped on that. The difference is that we will drive down to Florida rather than fly. Airfares are horrendous! It will probably not cost any less to drive, but we can take our time and visit on the way down--stop in to see friends in Atlanta and spend some time with my brother in Florida.

Donna, it will be good to finally get that hip fixed. My surgeon was on crutches for my first knee surgery. He'd just had an arthroscopy. Talk about a sympathetic surgeon!

Shirley, we got the Maytag washer because it wasn't as deep as the other one we were considering. Mom does the laundry and she's pretty short, too.

We are finally going to have a dry day! The weatherman has been saying those dirty words lately--frost, freeze, and snow! Not looking forward to turning on the heat and closing everything up for winter. I think we are going to appreciate our fireplace soon!

emoticon Laurie, I know you will be so happy to be retired. Have you booked your celebratory cruise yet? I wish I was where you're at, I keep telling myself just a few more years. Less than 5 I hope. I hope your foot starts to feel better soon. Ouch!

Donna I'm so glad you got a surgery date! How scary to see your Dr. in a cast though. I know you just want this to be over with. Hopefully everything will go well with his replacement.

Our washing machine was delivered yesterday. What was I thinking? The inside of it is absolutely huge. There's only the two of us so we'll never have a full load. It would be really nice if I could get my comforter in there but I don't think it's quite that big and I know the dryer isn't. This one does not have a load size, just a load sensor. We got a Maytag, hopefully it will last a lot longer than the Whirlpool we've had. The washer and dryer are in a a hall closet and they sit up on a small platform, the problem is I'm so short I can't reach all the way down in the bottom so I have to get dh to get them out. I hate having to ask him each time. Oh well!

Hopefully today is our last day of record breaking heat, it's supposed to be 97 today! Tomorrow it's supposed to be in the low 70s. I bet it's going to be a big shock to our systems. We have broken records nearly everyday in Sept. it's never this hot in Oct. So many of us are totally done with it. We haven't had any rain and all of you have had too much. Crazy weather!

I'm loving that I'm able to see Destiny every week now. My ds gets her every Wednesday and every other weekend, he's getting her next weekend too because there was something else going on that she couldn't come last week. I'll mostly have her from dinnertime and overnight and most of Sunday I hope. The divorce hearing is Oct. 15th. I'll be glad to have it over with so that there won't be all of this nastiness and more stability for Destiny. She's 4 1/2, I'm loving this age. She loves to cook so I think we might make some cookies.

I have some German books that need to be cataloged. UGH! I hate doing the foreign books they're so much harder. Our new director is letting us take a 1/2 hour for lunch so that we can leave 30 mins. early! Yay!

Great news about getting a surgery date, Donna. You must have had a scare seeing your surgeon with his wrist in a cast. Thank goodness his replacement is up for the job, The six weeks will just fly by - as all time seems to do at our age!

Laurie - are you planning a retirement celebration?

Morning all, we too had a record month for rain but had lots of nice days too so not too many complaints. Charlotte and Laurie you both seem to have the same weather for your farmers. Itís not good for them but it affects the rest of us too. We want our farmers to get their crops off the land and have a good year.
Shirley thst extended best in your area is not good either. Hope you like your new washer.
Yeah Laurie for being so close to your last work days. I know you will love retirement.

Finally I have a surgery date foe my hip. As long as everything goes well it will be Nov 18. Yikes, that is only six weeks away. When I went for my appointment yesterday my surgeon came in with a cast on his wrist. So he is out of commission for st least six weeks then of course he would not be able to operate until he has the flexibility back. So he gave me the choice of having his partner do the surgery. I do t know this man but he made me feel very comfortable having him do the surgery. I checked out his credentials and I am feeling quite good about him.
I know I could not wait much longer......

Good morning. It's soggy here, as has been usual this year. Charlotte, our farmers are not able to get out on the fields here, either. After a very late planting, I think there are going to be a lot of failed crops. The farmers are hoping it dries out a bit before it freezes so they can harvest something.

Shirley, we are enjoying our new washer. We got a top loader without an agitator and sometimes we just watch it work through the glass lid. emoticon

Donna, hope you have good news. I know how it feels to not be able to get out and walk while the weather is decent. I think I did break my toes, but ended up not going in for x-rays. Don't know that they would do anything but tell me to elevate and rest them. I've been walking a bit this week, but not in shoes. They aren't ready for that yet. So Mom and I have been walking the halls in our apartment building...very slowly. At least I'm getting a little exercise. I've been snacking though and the scale shows it--gotta nip that behavior in the bud!

Two more weeks of work!

Good Morning everyone,

Charlotte, when we went looking at washing machines last weekend it was quite the experience. Two very young people with no real "adult" supervision. The guy couldn't answer our questions, he had to ask the girl he was working with or call someone. We have a mountain of laundry so it's a good thing it's coming today.

Donna, let us know what happened at your Dr. appt. yesterday. I hope you got some good news.

We had rain once in the whole month of Sept! We have been breaking record highs everyday for at least the last 2 weeks. Today it's supposed to be 97. It's never this hot in Oct. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 96 and Sat. a real cold front it's only supposed to get up to 79! We'll all be wrapped up in sweaters after having temps in the 90s everyday for the last 4 months. I'm actually not missing the rain because I'm not looking forward to driving through all that traffic in the rain and dark. I'm just getting too old. I can't see when it's raining.
I hope the rain stops soon, it does sound like a disaster in the making.

Shirley - have fun buying your new washer. We finally got a home auto washer this year & I'm loving it. Sure beats the laundromat.

Donna - hope your appointment goes well today and you'll have a surgery date soon. The waiting is always frustrating.

We're growing gills here after over a month of almost constant rain. Soggy fields of rapidly deteriorating soybeans, sunflowers and canola all around us - agricultural disaster declared in some areas. We lost a only small amount of hay, so aren't as bad off as some, but growing conditions on the whole this season were miserable.

Donna, Good Luck today! I wanted to let you know you're in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you can get a surgery date set.

Today the temp is supposed to be 96 I think. Is it really October, it sure doesn't feel like it. Every time I write the date for this month, I want to put Aug. instead, that's where this weather needs to be. It's supposed to cool off this weekend, finally. In the 80s, that'll feel like a cold front to us, I want to go get my winter clothes out and washed. LOL!

Can't wait to get new washing machine tomorrow!

Have a great day!

Things are about the same Byers. The weather is lovely and I just wish I could get out there and walk. I am just back from the pool so that is positive. I see the orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday. Hopefully I will find out how close I am to having my surgery. I need to get my life back....

Hello everyone! Where's everyone at?

Busy crazy weekend. My ds that lived in Florida has now moved to N. Carolina where his wife got a job, they closed on their house up there last week. He stopped Friday on his way up there and spent the night with us, it was fun to sit and get caught up on his life. Hopefully they'll be closing on their house in Florida this week. He starts his new job on Oct. 7th. He's going to have to travel a lot and will be going to Italy frequently. He's not happy about the travel part but it's a job. He hung up pictures, put together a desk chair and a storage cabinet while he was here. As always I had a "Mattie (his name is Matthew) Do List" he can just knock things out in a matter of minutes. It was good to see him!

We finally got everything out of the apt. and got it cleaned. DH is going to do final walk-through and hand in keys today. I'm so glad we won't have to come in here on the weekends anymore.

Found out something last night when we went to buy groceries, there are 3 grocery stores in town, 2 of them are expensive and small. The other is WalMart and that must be where everyone goes because they were out of a lot of things yesterday. I guess we're just going to have to go to the next town over and go to Kroger or somewhere like that. It's about a 20 min. drive. Small town living. So on top of the car accident last weekend, this weekend our washing machine died. We decided it was time to get a new one, they sure have a lot of bells and whistles on them which we don't need.

I need to run, work is killing me with all of this extra stuff I'm having to do.

Oh no Laurie, I sure hope your foot is just badly bruised and not broken.

I'd rather deal with a real person too, they sent me their quote yesterday and will be sending me a check soon. I laughed when I heard they estimated just over $1200 for all of that damage, I think it's going to cost a lot more than that. The body shop I decided to go with is a preferred shop for the ladies insurance so I'll let them worry about the difference. I just want my car fixed. Unfortunately the body shop can't get me in for another 2 1/2 weeks.
I can't even tell you how much I dread driving a rental car, especially in the traffic I have to drive in now. Just not looking forward to this at all.

We didn't have any other solution about the apt. we had to stay until our lease is up and that's Monday. The rental co. that we are renting the house from didn't give us any option to when we could move in. It worked out okay though. I'll be so glad to be done with this place. The manager called me yesterday to check and I told them we would be done Sat. and could we do the walk through, she told me no, only M-F. I told her we both have to work, then she told me we didn't have to do it, but I think we should. I don't want to be blamed for stuff that was there, from what I could tell yesterday this is new management, I think in the last 4 years this will be the 3rd or 4th new management team.

It's been dry here which suits me just fine, I don't like driving in all of that traffic as it is. I'm really dreading the first time it rains and it's dark in the morning. I just can't see anymore. I'm fine if it rains on the weekends just not during the week. LOL! It's still in the 90s here and very humid. I'm ready for fall.

I lost my email notifications, so had some catching up to do. Guess I better post more often.

Sorry to hear about your car accident, Shirley. The process of getting my car fixed was pretty smooth when I hit the deer least year, but I'm with you--don't like to drive a different car. I bet you are glad to see the end of your old apartment. I don't think I've ever had more than a day or two to get moved. Can't imagine stretching it out for a month!

Charlotte, we've had a wet year here, too. Over the feet of rain and melted ice/snow. We will break the record for the wettest year. The farmer's are struggling around here, that's for sure.

At least it's been a relatively warm September. No nice walls for me, though. Last week I kicked an end table and bruised my foot badly. And yesterday I kicked a chair with my other foot... sheesh! The bruising on last week's injury is fading but I think I may have broken my foot yesterday. I'll see how it feels tomorrow. Don't like to run to the doctor for every little thing.

Three weeks from today is my last day of work--woo hoo!

Shirley - sorry to hear about your accident. A complication you sure don't need right now, what with all the work cleaning up your old place and getting settled in your new one. Good that no one was hurt. Technology sure has made a difference in how people do their jobs. I'd still rather deal with a real person than an app.

More rain today and more frustrated farmers. The grain harvest is going nowhere as the fields are way too wet. We could have used this water in the spring but Mother Nature had other ideas. My arthritis is not happy either, but good old Mr T3 to the rescue. Had a good workout yesterday pushing a shopping cart through several stores - got a winter coat, a soft wool wrap and a blouse. My closet is still in shock as I haven't bought any clothes for quite awhile.

Sometimes when they get in there is more damage internally which does not show on a picture.
Letís hope it is minimal for you.

I don't know how much damage there was to her car. I couldn't really see looking out my back window, it didn't look too bad, but she really got me good, she was able to move her car up to a parking lot so we could get out off the busy interstate we were on, it didn't look like there was a lot of damage. I did notice that her airbags had deployed so that means the car is totaled. I'm just glad mine is okay to drive, the less time I have to be in a rental car the better. I hate driving other cars. So her insurance co. had us take pictures of the damage and send them through an app, then somehow they estimate how much it's going to cost to get fixed then I can go wherever and get a quote, but I think they cut me a check first. I didn't understand all of that. How in the world can they figure it out with just pictures? What happened to the old days when someone came out and looked at the damage? The sooner it gets fixed the better.

Oops, Shirley I forgot to comment on your having an accident. That is so scary. I am so glad you are ok but it must have been quite a bump if the other ladies car is totalled. How scary for both of you. Now the bothersome of getting your car repaired. I hope it all works out ok

How in the world did you do that Donna? I can't imagine having everything out and the apt. cleaned all in one day, it's taken us a month and although we got most of the worst part done like the refrigerator and oven/stove cleaned we still have a lot to do. We worked in there for about 4 hours on Sat. but things were slow going. My dh went back yesterday after church and got a little bit done but not all that I was hoping for so this Sat. is it, we have to have it cleaned and the final walk through done this Sat. I think I found out why I was sick so much and and we both had terrible sinus problems. I was wiping down the windowsills in the bedroom and found black mold and the room was extremely dusty, just a few months ago we bought a new bed, while waiting for the new one to be delivered I had taken everything out of the room and had dusted and vacuumed every inch of that room. That room was always terribly dusty for some reason. I'm glad to be out of there.

Last week just wasn't my week, Friday I had barely gotten on the road and a lady hit my car in the rear. She did quite a bit of damage to my car, her car was totaled, thankfully neither one of was hurt. She was just devastated, I kept telling her it was okay, accidents happen. I'm just thankful that I can still drive mine, can't get the trunk open even. Just the hassle of getting it fixed now.

Need to run. Have a great day!

Good Morning Everyone,

What a great idea Donna, not too sure if he'd be happy if I left him alone with something that complex to do. I found one I liked and had a coupon to get $20 off but I waited too long and now the coupon has expired. Hoping it'll come down in price soon. There's so many things we need to get yet, like a lawn mower. Right now we have boxes lining the hall so there's no place to put it. We still have stuff at the apt. that we need to get. Just as I feel like we're getting all unpacked then we bring more stuff home. Tomorrow we're going to go in and get the rest of the stuff and start cleaning. We have to have it all cleaned and be out by next Sat. so we can do the walk through. I'll be so glad when everything is finally unpacked and pictures are hung and it really starts to feel like home.
The drive is getting better. This morning I was at work before 6:30, it took me 50 mins. to drive in, that's record time. I guess a lot of people do a compressed work week and are off on Fridays.

I guess I should get back to work!
Have a great weekend everyone!
