Shirley good news about your need not needing attention right now. Yes it would be much easier to take care of it after you retire. Will you still have some benefits then?

Thst is really awful about your hubbys change in work hours. Do you think he will be looking for a different job? It would sure make me think about it.

We finally got rid of our snow but today it is quite windy. I am not sure what the temp is so I better turn o nether news.

Winter is definitely still here. Though, it's been a weird one with cold, snowy weather in October and early November and warmer than normal for the most part since then. It's our fifth winter back in Wisconsin, but snow storms are still a novelty, for the most part. Especially when I don't have to get out before dawn to commute!

Charlotte, that skinny snowman was in Texas. I had to admire the neighbors for getting even that much snow together for a snowman. emoticon

Shirley, when we first moved to Atlanta, I worked second shift and Mom and my brother worked days. We only saw each other on the weekends. That was a long 6 months until I got a decent job, dealing with homesickness on top of it didn't help. My ortho in Atlanta was at Piedmont--that's a drive! I guess I was pretty much used to the traffic and distances by the time I saw him, because I don't remember it being too horrible.

Had a very lazy day yesterday after our Packer's painful game on Sunday. Today I have to get on the stick and get some stuff done around here.

I went to the ortho Dr. yesterday. All he could do was look at my x-rays and told me he could see some small wear and tear from the knee replacement but since I'm not in pain right now he told me I shouldn't worry about it. He wouldn't do the surgery but referred me to different surgeons but they are over 30 mins. away but for the moment I don't need them. I asked him how long he thought I could get away without doing anything and he told me possibly another few years which is great news, I'm trying to hold off until I retire.

DH started new job yesterday. It took him nearly 2 hours to get to work. This week he's working Mon.-Fri. 2 pm - 10:30 pm. Next week he will start his new 10 hour shifts and won't get home until around 1:30 am. I probably won't see him again until Sat. His new hours include working Sat., but he'll have Sunday, Monday and Wednesdays off. Not sure what he'll do with himself all day. Ugh! He got up with me this morning but went back to bed. I had my clothes laid out but couldn't get dressed in the dark so I woke him up. This is a huge adjustment for both of us.

Charlotte, 20 songs? Oh my goodness! You are so dedicated. Are you getting ready for Easter?

After having spring/summer weather last week we are back to winter this week. It sure was cold this morning, in the 20s.

I wish we could say goodbye to snow now, but no dice up here in the frozen north. I shouldn't complain as there are always places worse off than us (like eastern Canada at the moment) but dealing with the stuff is always challenging. The sun does come out again eventually thank goodness. The yard is covered with deer tracks this morning. They've cleaned up all the crabapples under the trees and are now munching on the dead leaves still on the elderberry shrubs.
Shirley, too bad about the change in your dh's work time.Being able to work from home would help - hope it works out for you both. Glad to hear your ds is doing better. Balancing medications can be a real challenge for everyone.
I haven't been Sparking much lately - mostly trying to get the home front in order (and not doing too well at that) and doing some "doctoring" for several aches and pains. Both my choirs are in full rehearsal mode - for one of them, I have 20 songs to memorize emoticon

Happy Hump Day everyone,

When I got home from work last night my dh had bad news about his job. He's been reassigned. This starts next Monday. He will now be working weekends which is very depressing for me since that's the only quality time we have together. Hopefully after training for a month in the home office they'll be able to get him hooked up to work at home. Keeping my fingers crossed. I was counting on him going to the Dr. on Monday but I guess I'll be going alone now.

In the 70s again today. It feels like spring. Doesn't look like we'll be getting any snow again this year. It rained most of yesterday and was really foggy, I could barely see to drive. It was foggy again this morning but not raining. Starting tomorrow night it's supposed to get a bit chillier.

Things are going better with my ds thank goodness. I don't know if it just took his meds this long to fully get into his system. Things that would have upset him before and send him over the edge aren't bothering him now. I'm just glad to see him stable again. My anxiety level has gone down a lot.

I guess I'll go see what I can do today. I haven't really had anything to do for a whole month now. I'm bored to say the least.

Shirley that is terrible about your concert. I know the tickets would be expensive and you should have been treated much better than that. It makes you not want to do something like thst again.

I am so sorry to hear your knee is bothering you. It will be interesting to hear what the new doctor has to say.

I think it is a hoot finding these decorations tucked away around the house. It never fails here too.

Hey everyone,

Did you get your tree down Laurie? I'm so glad that everything or most everything is down at my house. I say most because I keep finding little things that were in other rooms that we missed.

This past Sat. was the Celine Dion concert that we went to. I've never been to a concert of this size - it was totally sold out. I had no idea what to expect and apparently neither did the workers at the venue. It was utter chaos. People were really getting mad. The line was super long, it was raining, it was just a mess. We missed the first whole hour. They never even checked our tickets! We had to climb over people to get to our seats and someone was sitting in them, thankfully there were two empty seats in the same row so we sat there. The concert was good though. But going back to the hotel was another nightmare, we took Lyft and the first guy who was coming to get us had no idea where we were, I think he finally just gave up. We finally got him canceled and called someone else to pick us up, it took him awhile but he finally made it. It took us an hour and a half from the time we got out of the concert until we got back to the hotel. The funny part is it was only a 3 minute drive. I wanted to walk back but dh was afraid I was overdoing it since we stood in line for ages and I had to go up and down several flights of stairs. It was an experience!

Last Thurs. my right knee that I had replaced 10 years ago was giving me fits. The pain was really bad, I really don't know how I made it through the day at work. By the time I got home I was really hurting and I went straight to bed. I didn't sleep at all that night so I called in sick Friday. I finally gave in and found an orthopedic surgeon near our house and I have an appt. next Monday morning. Of course after I called it quit hurting and hasn't hurt since but I'm going to go anyway to find out why it's swollen and how things are looking. I was hoping to avoid another replacement until I've retired, hopefully I can.

It's in the low 70s here today and tomorrow, we've had a ton of rain and expecting another round today and tomorrow. UGH! Then it's going to get cold next week again. Typical Georgia weather.

Back to work, my asst. isn't here today and teachers are calling me for help.

Congratulations, Charlotte! It's so encouraging to see the scale going down. We are going to join the YMCA (one of the benefits of our health insurance), but Mom and I have been feeling funky so haven't gotten to it yet. They have tai chi, I'm hoping it's doable for beginners!

Shirley, I remember the panic when it started to flurry in Atlanta. However, I also remember getting dumped with snow and being trapped in our very hilly subdivision. Mom slid on some ice and smashed her ankle to smithereens. First bone she ever broke and it was on the ice down south!

Today is cold--barely above 0 F, but it's supposed to warm up again. It's been weird weather this year. We had snow for Halloween but not Christmas--hmph. But at least Sunday it will be more normal weather for the big football game. That's an advantage for the home team emoticon

Today we finish taking down the Christmas tree. We always have it up through Epiphany. Hate to pack everything away, but it will be good to reclaim that corner of the living room.

Charlotte, I'm glad you haven't had much snow yet, it sure does make it easier to get out. I like having snow since we rarely get any (last year we didn't even get a single snowflake!)
but only if it's enough to close down the whole school district. They will sometimes close all the schools but 12 month employees have to report. I was thinking one day if the teachers are excused why aren't we? We're all snowed in together. I have a new excuse this year since we have moved an hour away, I have to cross several bridges too. You would laugh (I still do) the whole city shuts down and you can still see the grass through the snow! The thing that is worrisome here is ice storms, we've had some doozies and we even had a blizzard one year. My dh was a truck driver and his company would call me with updates of where he was (before cell phones) I was so worried that I went on a big cleaning spree.

Oh Charlotte, every Christmas I go out and buy gifts for myself. This year I just kind of went overboard. Why do I do that? When we went into that store I did find a nice warm shirt (our house is freezing) and my dh found two new shirts. I'm so glad I decided to walk over to the children's section, it was so tempting not to buy more clothes which she really doesn't need.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I haven't looked to see if there's a TOPS out in our small town, probably not, but I'm going to look.
Guess I should get back to work.

Shirley - Our Canadian "mild" weather over Christmas (10-20 degrees F) is now a distant memory...the real cold has socked in probably until March if we're lucky. Not much snow yet which makes getting around a little better. Great bargain on Destiny's coat - what did you get for yourself?
One week into the new year/decade and some progress. I signed up for a 2 month Tai Chi course at a local senior's centre and lost 1.5 lbs at the first TOPS weigh in of 2020.

Hi Donna, Thankfully the weather was pretty mild the whole week so the hoodie I had bought her a while back was good. Sat. it got colder. Luckily my dh and I went out for dinner Sat. night and went into a store that was having a big clearance sale, I found a Carter's jacket that was $68.00 on sale for $16.00!!! I bought it and she wore it to church on Sunday, It was a good thing I found it because it was in the 30s when we went to church.
If she doesn't grow a lot this year (LOL!!) maybe she can wear it again next winter. Doubtful but I'm hopeful.
I had to go buy more clothes too but went into a small store in town and they had some good bargains. Better than Walmart anyway.

I saved my receipts, maybe just maybe someday the judge will tell her she was out of order for not sending any clothes and make her pay me back. It'll probably never happen but again I'm hopeful.

Happy New Year everyone!

I survived having Destiny for an entire week! It sure was quiet after she left yesterday.

Back to work today. It was hard getting up at 4 am and I so didn't want to come to work but after I got here things have gotten better. Thank goodness!

Laurie I hope you and your mom got over the crud!

We had a good Christmas, it was fun doing it with Destiny. She loved her new toys but then after day 2 she was back to wanting to watch TV all day, we just don't do that at my house. I went overboard again, I need to quit doing that. I did keep back the instructional game I had bought her, I did a picture for her, I just need to get it framed, I think that's about it for her birthday. I can't believe she's going to be 5 in two months, my baby is growing up, way too fast!
Need to get back to work!

Happy New Year, y'all! Though it hasn't started out too well, Mom and I have both been under the weather since Monday. Hopefully on the upswing now! I did lose a few pounds, but it's not a weigh-loss method that I'd recommend.

We had a couple Christmas celebrations, one with my brother and his family up north and the other last weekend with my sister's family down here. Her kids were all together for the first time in many years, and with the addition of kid's kids, chaos ensued! Joyous chaos, but loud. Now it's time to enjoy a little down time before my schedule picks up again next week.

emoticon Happy New Year and new decade to everyone. Quiet New Year's Eve for us too with no plans to stay awake until midnight. We start yawning at 9:30 pm on a good night! Had a nice long chat with my brother in Nova Scotia this afternoon - a great way to end the year and begin another.

We’ll be at home in our pajamas as usual, only difference will be having a 4 year old here. We try to stay up to ring in the new year but don’t always make it. Hopefully I’ll get Destiny in bed at a decent time. Lol! She keeps me busy.
Christmas was super fun!
I hope everyone is doing well.

Thanks Donna, I went to Goodwill but didn't have much luck. I did find her a new toy, just what she needed. I bought a shirt but it looks like it's going to be too big and two pairs of leggings, hopefully they'll fit. No winter coats at all. I did get her a hoodie the last time she was here but it's supposed to get cold next week when we have her. I think we're going to go look at another 2nd hand store tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed I'll find something.

Today is my last day of work until January 6th. WooHoo! Coming back to work that day will be a rude awakening of getting up at 4 am and dealing with traffic but I'm going to enjoy my time off and the time I have with my granddaughter next week.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Shirley, thst is just plain mean and she is definitely not thinking about Destiny. There is a good reason why there is a divorce in the future. I really feel bad when children are used as lawns. Hopefully you will find something at goodwill.
Glad to hear your knee is doing well.

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas!

Thanks for the advice everyone. My knee is much better. We had nonstop rain for two days so they were both really aching, I'm so glad I'm doing better. My sciatic nerve is much better too. I managed to keep my sugar down so I was able to take them all.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We're waiting until Sat. when Destiny is here to have ours so I took advantage of my dh being off yesterday, we managed to get a lot of stuff done.

I'm at work today and tomorrow, then off all next week (because I'll have Destiny), I wish I would have had enough vacation days to take the whole two weeks off. That's the way it goes. I need to get paid worst.

Today would have been my dad's birthday. He died unexpectedly two years ago just before Thanksgiving. We weren't particularly close since we lived so far away from each other and because of my stepmom but I still miss him. Last year was just super hard on me. I was the only one of my 3 siblings that had a real relationship with him so it's been hard.

We have tickets to go see Celine Dion in concert in two weeks. I've always wanted to see her live. I've been to a lot of Kenny Rogers concerts (my former boss was president of his fan club so she got us some good deals) but I've never seen anyone else in concert. We're going to spend the night in downtown Atlanta. Two things marked off my bucket list!

I'm so mad at Destiny's mom, she's refusing to send any clothes with her for next week. She told me that when she's with my ds it's his responsibility to make sure she has clothes while she's here including a winter coat! Why should we go and buy her a bunch of clothes and especially a winter coat when we only have her twice a month, plus my ds is paying her child support. She's just making stuff up and trying to pick a fight. I held my tongue but I'm still furious. I'm going to stop at Goodwill on the way home from work today, hopefully I can find a few things, especially a coat. I'll be so glad when this divorce and custody hearing are final. I just can't believe she's squabbling over clothes.

Shirley - good advice from Donna and Laurie, rest and ice. I hope you improve enough to enjoy Christmas festivities.

Looks like a quiet Christmas for us. Church on Xmas eve, then dinner at home the next day. The turkey is thawing & I'm off soon to the grocery store, credit union and post office etc. Good thing there are 12 days of Christmas.

Hope all of you have a very happy Christmas celebration emoticon

Shirley first of all stay off webmd. If you have too look online use the Mayo Clinic, AMA or Harvard.
Ice and rest until you see the doc.
Off to Costco for door opening. I hope to be in and out in 15 minutes then a quick stop at the store.
Safe travels Laurie. We are having our kids for dinner tomorrow night which will be great. Physio for me in the morning.

Shirley, your symptoms could be caused by any number of things--related to the TKR or not. Your best bet would be to call your doc and see if you can get in fairly soon. In the meantime, you are probably doing the best thing for it, rest and ice.

Merry Christmas everyone. We are heading up north today to spend Christmas with my brother and his family, then will have a big family celebration with my sister's family down here when we get back. Busy, happy week!

Hey everyone! I hope all is well with all of you.
I have a question for those that have had knee replacement. It’s been 10 years since I had my right knee done, in fact 10 years ago yesterday.
Thursday when I woke up my knee was very swollen. I went to my doctor Friday for my sciatic nerve and she started me on steroids hoping that my knee was inflamed for some reason. Now it’s 4 days later and is still swollen. No pain just kind of achy because of the rain and cold.
Does anyone know what this could be? I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get in to see the doctor. I’m trying to stay off it as much as possible and keeping it elevated and iced.
I looked on WebMD last night all that did was scare me. I know I shouldn’t have.

Diamond painting is relatively new, It's catching on in popularity. It's hard to explain but think of it as doing cross-stitch without the thread or maybe paint by number explains it better. Basically it's a picture you order from a company that has symbols on it and is sticky, then you have a special pen that you dip in this wax and use it to pick up these sparkly gems (diamonds) and stick them on the picture. When you're finished you end up with a very sparkly picture, a lot of people frame theirs and hang them. Mine are all just sitting in a box. LOL! It's very calming and very addictive.
If you google Diamond Painting or watch YouTube it'll explain it a lot better. It's super simple and even kids over 5 or 6 can do them.
My mom loves to do them during the winter because it's harder for her to get out. My ds has done two this past month. It really helped his mood swings and depression/anxiety.

I enjoyed lunch with my former co-worker so much! We had a good time. Hopefully we'll be able to do this again soon.

When I woke up this morning I noticed my right knee (the first TKR I had done 10 years ago) is swollen and hurts a bit. I'm not sure what is up with that. Hopefully it's the weather, it got down in the 20s last night. Not sure why it's swollen though. Hoping this isn't the start of something. Today is not a good day for this. It's our holiday luncheon at work and where we are going has very limited parking in a lot behind them and it's downhill, so I'm going to have to walk up-hill to get to the restaurant. It's kind of a steep hill. I hope this doesn't make it worse.

I have never heard of Diamond painting either...

Shirley - what is diamond painting? If it's anything like the adult colouring books, I can understand how addictive it can be. But very relaxing too. Fun to get together with old friends - enjoy your lunch today.

Donna, Amazon is my lifesaver and my favorite place to shop. I did all of my Christmas shopping on there last year and most of it from there this year. I have to stop though. I think today is the last of the stuff I've ordered to come. I've spent way too much money on there. I keep thinking the poor delivery guy is probably sick of coming to my house but then I think it's because of me he has a job. LOL!
My dh wanted a guitar this year, a beginner's guitar. Believe it or not I found exactly what he was looking for with accessories and a case to carry it in for just over $100. I couldn't believe it, of course he's already opened it and has been trying to get it tuned, it's pretty nice. I found my ds's present on there too, a lot cheaper than I would have found it anywhere else, in fact we looked around and couldn't find it anywhere, I'm so glad I found it on there. Amazon is so much more convenient when you live out in the country.

I'm having lunch with an old co-worker today, we got to be close friends. We used to sit with our backs to each other so when something happened or was said we would turn to each other and roll our eyes. We used to go out to lunch every week. I became a part of her family. Her dh has a severe case of MS, he's been bedridden for years now. She never gets much of a break. I haven't spoken to her on the phone in over a year so I was surprised when she called me yesterday to ask me to lunch today. I'm excited. Since she retired 8 years ago all our co-workers have left except me. Things have changed drastically and unfortunately not for the good. I'll be glad when I can get out of here.

Charlotte, thanks for the giggle, I was imaging going to see Donna perform in the Cirque du Soleil! That would be fun to see.

My dh mailed my mom's package on Monday and they told him she'll get it on the 23rd. It's not really a Christmas present. I finally finished the baby blanket for my new grand-nephew so I mailed it to her (so she would have a good excuse to go visit) and I stuck our new obsession (diamond painting) in for her to do when she can't get out because of the snow. She says she has quite a few left to do but I'm not sure how many. I have no business buying any new ones, I have quite a stash but I can't help myself.

I guess I should find something to do. I'd rather be home cleaning then be here at work. Who am I kidding I would sit and do diamond painting all day and wouldn't clean. Yep, I'm addicted.

emoticon to Shirley. I hope your ds gets the help he needs. Any holiday like Christmas can be an especially challenging time, as many of us know. Good for you for concentrating on all the happier parts of the holiday like gifts, decorating, special treats and finding a Hallmark store. Bonus!! Love their stuff too.

Donna - At the rate you're going, emoticon you'll be a force to be reckoned with. emoticon emoticon Next thing you know, Cirque du Soleil will be calling! emoticon emoticon

As predicted, I'm in the last minute Christmas rush. The tree is decorated, now to get some cards and gifts organized for my relatives in Nova Scotia. Of course, nothing will get to them before the 25th, but they're used to that with me.

Shirley, i am so sorry to hear what is going on with your son. I can just 8magine how worried you are. It does sound like a new therapist is 8n order. Wishing you all luck with that.
Good news that you are almost ready for Christmas. Having the presents wrapped is a huge relief.
I have to order a present today from Amazon.also, have to send money for my son in Winnipeg for gifts for the little ones there. I had better do that today.
I have physio this morning which is good.we will see what this guy has me doing.

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well. I'm hanging in there. My ds had a total meltdown last night, I've never seen him when he's gone off the wall, it's frightening. I finally got him calmed down and made his girlfriend leave. Yes, all of this is over a girl!!! I'm so tired of the drama. I told them no talking or texting for a couple of weeks. They need a break. I feel like I'm dealing with teenagers instead of grown children. In the meantime I'm so stressed and eating everything in sight and gaining weight back. Now he needs to call the Dr. and see about getting his meds adjusted and we have a lead on a new therapist that knows how to deal with bipolar. The one he has now is in training we found out and gives bad advice. I sure hope he can get an appt. with this new person. Please just keep praying for all of us.

I'm feeling really good about Christmas. I finally figured out something to put in my dhs stocking I just need to go get it. All of my cards and the package to my mom have been sent out. I've wrapped all of my presents, mostly for Destiny. I did hold back something to give to her for her birthday. She's going to have more than enough gifts with what my ds is giving her. The ham has been bought and I have most of the food for Christmas dinner already purchased. The best thing is I don't have any signs (well maybe just a few) of the terrible depression that I usually go through in Dec. This is the first time in years! I think it's helping that I'm near my ds and I'll have my granddaughter the entire week of New Years.

I'm so excited! Over the weekend I discovered that this little country town has a Hallmark store. I love Hallmark stores and the one near where we were living closed down a couple of years ago. The sign says Carmichael's Drugs but it's a Hallmark store and it's the biggest one I've ever been in. Whoever thought this little town would have a store like this.

I'm so glad you're doing well Donna. It sounds like you're breezing through all of this. I bet it feels good not to have that constant pain like you were having.

I guess I better get back to work. Have a great day!

Can you believe a city the size of.Vancouver does not have Uber. Our taxi industry holds a lot of power over the government for sure.
Shirley it sounds like you could walk to your parade. Taking the car and parking might be just as far.
I think you are smart to hold back some presents for Destiny. I know we love to shop foemthe little ones but too much is not a good thing either. Its hard to keep up as they get older.
Yesterday was a full day for hubby. and probably too much. He had three appointments. I wont let that happen again.
We were at the hospital where I am going to have my physio. They had a cancellation so they came and asked me if I wanted to take the appointment. I decided to take it. The therapist was amazed at where I am after just three weeks. He went through the exercises and said I could progress to the nine weeks section. I would never have dreamed of doing that myself.

I would love to retire from cleaning the house and cooking! LOL! That'll never happen. It's fun to dream about it though.

Laurie, what a great perk! All we have down here is Uber. Since we've moved we're a lot further away from the airport, I can't even imagine how much it would cost us to get Uber to take us into the airport.
I love the traveling Santa float, I bet that's neat. They had a parade in town last Thursday night. I'm still trying to figure out why do it on a week night when kids have to go to school on Friday? The last place we lived always had theirs on Sat. mornings. Anyway, I wasn't feeling so great and I've been having sciatica problems so we opted to stay home. We live right off the main street so we only had to drive up to the corner. Our street is where the parade ends.

I'm hopefully going to get the box to my mom ready tonight. I addressed Christmas cards last night, need to write a few letters, I started digging out everything I bought for Destiny and of course I went overboard so I'll probably hold something until her birthday in March. I'm getting there. Thankfully I don't do a lot of baking like I used to. I'm making a big cookie for my son's birthday on the 23rd and I make Magic Bars every year no matter what so I think that'll be plenty.

Back to work. I'm all caught up so I'm kind of bored.

I've been trying for years to retire from housework, but no luck so far emoticon Oh well, at least it counts as exercise.

Laurie - The touring Santa float is a great idea. Around here some communities have Santa parades, usually at night, with all the floats lit up - so pretty, but of course you have bundle up and head outside to the parade route. Fortunately, there's usually a bonfire or two and free hot chocolate to warm folks up a little.

Like Shirley and Donna, I'm also the grateful patient of an excellent surgeon. I hope that anterior technique that Donna had catches on more in Canada - imagine, ditching the cane after three weeks. emoticon

Looking at the calendar (that was a mistake!) and realizing it's 2 weeks today to Christmas Day . Today is the Canada Post deadline for parcel delivery by the 25th so the relatives in Nova Scotia will be getting New Year's presents again this year looks like. Our last choir concert is tonight, so no more excuses for procrastinating. It is amazing what a person can do in a short time if pushed.

Laurie those are two, very cool perks for you. I am sure I would, take, advantage of the almost free cab ride especially for appointments.
I bet the kids love the Santa truck.
Hubby has a two( hour appointment today at the hospital for occupational and speech therapy. Not sure how he is going to handle that length of time but I will be there too.
Nktning but medical appointments.....

Shirley, people keep telling me that retirement stays busy, so you never know what you'll end up doing with your time. I do admit, though, housework is not a priority emoticon

Today we go sign up for a city perk for us old folks. We can sign up for "Dial A Ride" where we can get a cab ride anywhere in the valley in the winter for $3.50. If the weather is bad and we have appointments, we can use that instead of driving ourselves. Usually, we'd have to go down to city hall to sign up, but today they have a representative coming to our apartment complex. After that, Mom and I are going out Christmas shopping, then there is a Madrigal group coming to sing this afternoon. Have to squeeze in a good walk and practice some music, and POOF, the day is gone. That's how my weeks have gone.

Every year the fire department puts together a Santa float and drives up and down the streets with sirens blaring and Santa ho-ho-hoing. It takes a couple weeks for them to get through all the neighborhoods. Last night was our turn. It was too bad it was so cold out, or we would have gone out to wave. They have a live GPS tracker so people know where the float is. I did manage to get a photo through our window.

That's wonderful news Donna! I'm so glad you're recovering so quickly. I'm sure you're glad to have all this behind you.

When I had my last knee replacement the therapist asked me who did my surgery, he told me he very rarely saw any complications from patients of his. He is a good Dr. he has done 6 surgeries on me. I haven't been back to see him in several years, I'm sure he won't be happy with me. He has the nicest asst.

Good to hear from you Laurie, that's one thing I won't miss when I retire, having to out in the cold and rain. I really hate driving in the rain. I guess it's good to be busy to a point. I just don't know what I will do with myself. I'm afraid I would become very lazy and bored. Although I do have a lot of scrapbooking to do. And this new hobby I took up will keep me busy for awhile, I've been building up my stash for when I retire. LOL! But then I wouldn't want to do housework or anything fun like that. :)

Guess I'll go and get back to work. Kind of bored. Things have slowed down a lot.

Morning ladies. I certainly don’t mind our weather here. It is on the cool side but just requires a light jacket. As long as the rain stays away I am good
I had physio yesterday and the therapist still me I was very lucky to have the doc who did my surgery. He said not many can do this anterior surgery. It was three weeks yesterday and I am amazed at how quickly I am recovering.
The therapist told me he would only need to see me maybe two more times.

Donna, good for you--it feels so good to get your independence back, doesn't it?

Charlotte, when I played with a community band, this was an even busier time of year for me. I could join the community band here, but I think I'm going to just keep to playing for church. I want to be able to enjoy the holidays. Though, if things don't slow down I don't know when that will happen! My brother also tells me that retirement's pace doesn't slow down. Yikes!

Shirley, I'll take your weather--it's barely above zero here today and the wind chill is -15. Could be worse, and we aren't going out today. That's one of the perks of retirement that I really enjoy!

Yesterday I had my Welcome to Medicare doctor visit and I have a whole pile of appointments for things that are due, including a colonoscopy (yuck) and an abdominal aneurysm screening. Oh boy! I should be all up to snuff when they are done with me.

emoticon on getting permission to drive again! Sounds like you're going to be busy. Just don't overdue it. I've done that twice when I had knee surgery, then I paid the price.

It's rainy, cloudy and cool today. I think the sun is supposed to make an appearance sometime today. It's supposed to be raining on Friday, just in time for the weekend.

I need to make a list of things I need to get done this weekend. I have two pictures I made to get framed for gifts. Destiny's presents are all over the place. I didn't dare open the closet door in her room when she was around. Thankfully she doesn't touch anything or go exploring. She really is a good girl.

I bet you just collapse after the holidays Charlotte, your schedule wears me out. Do you do something nice for yourself after it's all over. You should, you truly deserve it!
Your dh has been busy too! I love when they go a little beyond the job and do extra like washing all the light covers.
Our ceilings are so high in our house now and we have a lot of light fixtures. We're going to have to buy a ladder. I just hate the thought of my dh climbing up there and doing it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that none of them are going to burn out anytime soon.

Guess I better get some work done. Have a good day!

emoticon Good news about being cleared to drive, Donna and being off the pain meds. You are doing really well. I'm sure you're looking forward to getting back into the pool emoticon

The lovely sun outside and a relaxing pj day yesterday put me in a much better frame of mind. Dh has all the mitts, scarves etc. sorted and the keepers put away - the rest went into the on-going "Boutique VV" box. He also fixed the rusty water problem, changed all the burnt out light bulbs downstairs and washed the light covers. emoticon

The "singing season" is well underway - Sunday evening was the big Holiday Concert with my Pops choir - a packed house and lots of compliments, so very encouraging. Tonight and Thursday are the last two concerts for my other choir - then the church music over the next two Sundays and Xmas eve. The expression pedal on our church digital computer organ is mysteriously stuck on LOUD and the search for someone to fix it is ongoing. In the meantime, I've found a combination of stops that softens the sound a little, and there is a piano if things really go haywire,

Busy day today as I head for town to do some errands and have Christmas dinner with the Parks Canada retirees group. Your retirement seems off to a busy start, Laurie. Glad you're having fun and, take it from me, the pace doesn't really slow down! emoticon

Shirley - You are so lucky to have Destiny to share the fun of Christmas. Kids really make the season sparkle!

It's good to hear from everyone. Wow! Laurie you seem to be really busy. I'm sure it's nice to have more time on your hands to do the extra things you do. I was exhausted after hearing everything you have going on. I'm so glad we put up the tree and decorated this past weekend.
A delay at the Atlanta airport, yep that sounds about normal. I've endured many a time of being delayed leaving Atlanta.
One of my co-workers flew to Texas this weekend, she said after everyone was on and they had left the gate that the woman sitting across from her told the stewardess she was sick and so they turned the plane back and let her off, she said she had 3 carry on's! Then 4 people got on. I guess it was their lucky day.

Donna, it's good to hear you're doing so well. Hopefully you will be cleared to drive soon. I hated having to depend on people to do my shopping and get me to appts. but maybe some day you'll be able to help them.
7 years ago today I had my last knee replacement. I sure am glad I did it then. I don't miss the pain at all.

I guess I should get to work. I have a meeting this morning and then a training this afternoon. Hopefully the day will go fast!

Morning all, glad to hear life is good for everyone as we head into this busy holiday season.
Tree went up here yesterday too but I still have some decorating left. I need to take care of some dusting before I put the Christmas ornaments on display. We usually decorate our balcony but I think we can skip a year for that. Hubby is definitely not capable. My neighbour offered to help but I am going to leave it for this year.
Recovery is going well from the hip surgery and this morning I a, going make an appointment for some physio. I have some booked doe January but I dont want to wait that long. What I really need is to get permission to drive! Right now re are relying on friends and neighbours to take us everywhere.

Good morning! I am, indeed, being busy retired emoticon

We got back from Thanksgiving in Florida last Tuesday, very late. Our flight was delayed from Atlanta, so we spent some quality time at the airport. I don't think I've caught up yet from that day of travel. Air travel has just been taking it out of me the last few years. On Thursday we had tickets to see Phantom of the Opera and went out to eat afterwards. A bus picked us up at the place we live, drove us to the theater, drove us to the restaurant, then drove us home. That's the way to go out! Had to get groceries, set up my new laptop (great Black Friday deal!), got the Christmas tree out and trimmed, I had music to prepare for Sunday's service, choir practice... No wonder I'm tired! This week isn't looking any less busy. And the weather will be typically Wisconsin-winter like this week. Oh boy. Don't know when this retirement gig will slow down emoticon

Awfully quiet on here. Where's everyone at? Hope all is well.

Things are going better for my son, actually saw the old him this weekend. It was wonderful, it's been a long time since he was like he was Sat.
We got the tree up and decorated this weekend, we had Destiny and she loved helping to decorate the tree and was excited to see my musical Christmas snow globe collection. My depression and dread of the holidays is a lot better than past years. I've been missing my dad a lot. He died two years ago just before Thanksgiving, his birthday was the day after Christmas. I guess the holidays will always be hard.

I'm done shopping, just need to get everything wrapped. I don't do hardly any baking anymore, thank goodness. I need to work on getting Christmas cards out this week too.

How's everyone else coming along with their Christmas preparations?

Donna, how are you and your husband doing?

Charlotte hope you are doing well. What's the weather like up in Canada? We are having really mild weather.

Laurie, you must be busy being retired. Oh how I envy you.

Need to get some work done. Have a great day!

Sciencefan, you are in my thoughts and prayers today. I've had both my knees replaced. I think it was easier because I knew what to expect and did things differently. Let us know how you're doing when you can. Most of us on this page have had our knees replaced so we know what you're feeling. It's very scary and nerve wracking whenever you have surgery. In a couple of months this will all be behind you and you'll be glad you did it. Just think no more pain! It's totally worth it.

Oh Donna, I'm so sorry to hear about all of the problems your husband is experiencing right now. When it rains it pours! I hope things are better now. I know you're glad to have the surgery over and looking forward to getting the stitches out. That was always the best part of my knee replacements. Hang in there! I'm so glad you had your ds and his wife helping you out.

Thanksgiving was okay. Lots of drama and stress with my ds. I don't know how much more I can handle. I hope Christmas won't be like this. Thankfully he goes to see his Dr. tomorrow, hopefully he can prescribe new meds or whatever to get him back on track.

I did have a good time with my granddaughter. She got the whole treatment at the salon and had everyone gushing over her. She loved getting her hair washed, trimmed, dried and french braids. She did look really cute.

We are putting up the Christmas tree this coming weekend, my ds has her again. Her mom put up their tree while she was with her this weekend so she missed out on that fun. She was so excited when I told her we would put our tree up when she was here next.
I'm done Christmas shopping! Just waiting for everything to be delivered now. It's a good feeling.

Laurie how was your trip to Florida? Were you able to get home with all the snow up north?

What have you been up to Charlotte?

Well, work is calling my name. I was ready to come back actually. Have a good day!

It looks like I have not posted in awhile.
Shirley I am sure you are having a wonderful time with Destiny. How,did the hair cut go? I am sure she would look adorable with the French braid.
Good for you for getting your shopping done so early. I might have to resort to that in order to get mine done
I am recovering really well in spite of all that has been going on here, Hubby ended up being in the hospital for a week and finally came home late Wednesday. He has s few issues but it could have been a lot worse.
Our son and his wife went above and beyond helping us out. I am so grateful for all they did. He went home yesterday but said he would be back to cook us dinner and will probably stay overnight.
Life is quite complicated right now as neither of us can drive. I go see the surgeon next Friday to get my staples out so I am hoping that he will give me permission to drive again.
One day at s time....

Charlotte, Friday sounds like such fun! I can't remember seeing anything about Santa fun going on in our little town. I know the Christmas parade is next Tuesday night. Why do they do it on a weeknight when people have to get up and go to work and little kids have school the next day! When I was growing up the parade was always on a Sat. morning.

I'll have Destiny Friday because her daddy will be working. I don't know what we're going to do yet. I'll need to recuperate from Thanksgiving Day! I did make an appt. to get her hair trimmed. Her mom just doesn't do it. It's really baby fine and hard to do anything with, it ends up with terrible tangles. I finally found a spray on conditioner so that should help. She hates when it's in her eyes but a couple of hours after I get it fixed to my ability (which leaves a lot to be desired) it's coming back down. The lady told me she'd wash her hair, cut it and put in a french braid for $25.00. She'll love all the attention and getting her hair washed. If we could my ds and me would go get it all cut off into some cute bob or something.

I think I'm done Christmas shopping except for one gift for dh. He wants a guitar, I told him if he can find one that is affordable I'd get it for him. I went on Amazon yesterday and found Christmas presents for my son and a few things for dh.

It's been in the 30s the last few days in the mornings but tomorrow it's supposed to get up into the 70s. I think it's supposed to get cold next week again.

I'm hoping we get to leave early today, the parking lot is pretty empty. I'm ready for a break. In the meantime I have plenty to keep me busy so I guess I should get busy.

I hope those of you in Canada have a good week and everyone else has a great Thanksgiving!

Good morning, everyone. How are things with you and your hubby today Donna?
Shirley - good for you to have almost all your Christmas shopping done. I haven't really started yet, being occupied with choirs and concerts. Have fun with your "assistant cook" (Destiny) on Thursday emoticon and Happy Thanksgiving
.What little snow we had up here got all rained away the past few days. We certainly enjoyed the mild temps ( around 40 deg F) but this won't last. emoticon

Busy week coming up. Our church's big fundraiser Breakfast with Santa is on Friday. I have to cook sausages and do some baking, but don't have a job so far at the event itself. I usually organized the bake sale and worked at the sale table but the younger folks seem to be taking over which is fine with me. So much fun watching the kids getting their photos taken with Santa & giving him their lists.

Wow Donna, so sorry to hear about your dh. I hope he's doing better and is home now. Let us know how he's doing. Thank goodness your ds was there to help out.
It's good to hear that you are doing well.

Not much is new here. Thursday is our Thanksgiving Day and the big kick-off to the holidays. I'm getting close to being done Christmas shopping. I have all of my granddaughter's presents bought. I need to finish something up that I made for her. I have no clue what my dh wants, he's thinking about it. I have ordered one thing for my ds and am getting ready to order something else. I need to find something to put in his stocking. I have no idea what.

How's your weather up there? It was 34 this morning when I came to work, supposed to get up in the 60s today. It rained just about the whole day on Saturday, knocked all of the leaves out of the trees. We went and bought a leaf blower and a rake yesterday. My poor dh isn't used to doing yard work, he's a bit on the sore side today. It was nice living in an apt. all these years, no yard work to do. But, we are enjoying being in a house.

I have to work today and tomorrow and then I have 5 days off. I'll have Destiny from Wed. evening until Sunday afternoon because her dad has to work. I know I'll be exhausted Sunday. Should be interesting Thursday trying to cook with her underfoot. Wish me luck!

Yesterday turned out to be a horrible day. Hubby started to display stroke symptoms so our som took him to the hospital. They kept him overnight after his CT scan. We will see what happens today.

Still feeling pretty good but the meds do help. I am having no problem doing the exercises so I think I might progress to one more.

Donna, so glad you're back home. It's great your ds is there to help. I'm so thankful for mine when I had knee replacement surgery, him and his wife were my coaches while I was in the hospital and then they got me home and settled in before they left. The 2nd time I had surgery they came up for the weekend after surgery. I always cherish every moment I get to spend with them, not often enough.

I work Monday and Tuesday next week and then I'm off work until the following Monday. Time is flying by and I've only bought Christmas presents for my granddaughter. It's going to be so much fun spending Christmas with her.
She will also be coming to our house next Wed. night and we'll have her until Sunday. Not sure how I'm going to get a big meal on the table with her underfoot. She loves to help. I'm sure there will be something she can do to help. I'm hoping to get as much done as possible on Wed. I'm so glad I have that day off.

Today is our Thanksgiving Luncheon at work. we are going out to a restaurant that is located next to a small airport. The restaurant looks like something out of MASH. It's pretty cool. I enjoy going there, the bonus is getting to see planes come in and take off.

I guess I better go and get some work done. I have a hair appt. in the morning to get highlights and a haircut, badly need both, I need to cover up my gray hair. :)

Donna, it's so good to hear from you. Glad to hear your surgery went well!
Surgery does make you very thirsty for some reason. I also lost my appetite but that didn't last long. LOL!
Take it easy and don't overdo it! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I know you'll be glad to get home.

Are you leaving this weekend to go to Florida Laurie? I know you will have a good time with your family. Enjoy the sun and the warmer temps!

Good to hear from you Charlotte.

Karen, how are you doing? Are you still teaching school?

I'm ready for Thanksgiving break. The schools are closed all week but I have to work Monday and Tuesday. We usually don't get Wednesday off but for some reason they gave it to us this year. I need that day so that I can get some cooking done. It's been a few years since I cooked a big Thanksgiving dinner. I'm dreading it actually, especially getting the turkey ready. I got a big bird, hope he fits in my small oven! emoticon emoticon

An anterior incision is when they operate from the front rather than the back. Apparently it is an easier recovery
Yes I will be careful. I want to get over this and back to normal

Donna - so glad to hear your surgery is over and a great success by the sounds of things. emoticon What's an anterior incision? Something new? And no restrictions and no strong pain killers...wow. Be careful though, especially for the first month. I had my 6 month checkup yesterday - both hip joints doing fine, but my surgeon said it can take up to a year for things to settle down.

Feeling a little tired today after spending all all afternoon and evening yesterday in the city. (hip appointment, shopping and choir practice) Got everything done, in spite of the traffic (!) and Blue Bomber fever. (The city's football team is in the finals for the Grey Cup this weekend in Calgary) I know nothing about football but the enthusiasm is infectious.

Yes I could have apple juice four before and only 400 ml. I have been so thirsty since my surgery. I am doing really well and seem to need only regular Tylenol so far. I have been up a bit but today I will be doing physio. That should be fun. Possibly going home today
Because I had an anterior incision I have no restrictions which is awesome

You're so blessed Donna not to have to worry about surgery costs. I wish the United States would get on board with that. It will probably never happen. The newspaper that my dh is an editor for is the worst. They never give them raises (I'm not kidding), they get a catered meal twice a year, one is for Christmas and that's it. No bonuses no nothing. They used to give everyone a gift card at Christmas they don't get that now either. This is a very small company too. No appreciation at all. The only reason he's still there is it's hard to find a job when you're so close to retirement age. He makes less money than me also. Thankfully he has a retirement plan there.
I need to have bunion surgery but I can't do it because I can't afford to be out of work nor can I afford to pay for it.

I hope your surgery went well! They let you have juice before surgery? We always have to have surgery after fasting for hours.

Donna, keeping you in my prayers today. Hope all goes well with surgery. Update when you can.

Karen, welcome back! I'm so sorry to hear about all of your medical issues. I will keep you in my prayers.

Insurance - don't even get me started. During my dhs colonoscopy three years ago they removed a suspicious polyp, so the Dr. decided to do a follow up this year. Well, guess what? His insurance won't pay for it. He is having to pay over a thousand dollars in all and that's not even including the anesthesiologist. Then last night he found out his insurance is going to cost him over $300 a month next year. If he goes with the cheaper policy his deductible is $5000 and they won't cover any Dr. visits other than physical, they also won't pay for prescriptions until he meets the deductible. I'm not sure what he's going to do. That's just coverage for him and not me, my insurance is a lot better, open enrollment just ended for me so I can't add him on until 2021. Ugh! I guess that's life!

Back to work I guess.

Karen so good,to hear from you. It really makes you shake your head at these insurance companies. I am so,p happy that you are starting to feel, better. Welcome back!

Shirley, such worries about your son and Destiny. I know it would hurt me too knowing my grandchild did not want to be with her Mother.

Tomorrow is surgery and I am so ready to get my life back.

Its great to have the hot tub open.....

Good morning everyone. Soaking in a hot tub sounds good to me, even a virtual one. Winter has definitely arrived here too, even though the past couple days have been milder and even a bit rainy. This won't last, so we've been busy finishing up the yard cleanup and trimming trees.dh got a new chain and guard for his chain saw, so the dead branches have really been flying.

Good to see you posting again, Karen, and making good progress with your recovery. emoticon

Shirley - double hugs to you and your son. And to Donna for her surgery tomorrow.

Oh yay! I can't sit in a real hot tub, so I'm going to soak in this virtual one. I was diagnosed with kidney cancer last Feb. and have been fighting my insurance company over treatment, so I've been MIA. Well they got their wish. I had a partial nephrectomy on Nov. 6th because they wouldn't pay for a less invasive procedure that would have cost them a fraction of the surgery. Anyhow, I'm doing well. I'm slowly upping my steps every day - I'm up to about 3200 steps. Having some back trouble, but think it's because of the position they put me in during surgery. Hope to get caught up in here and see how everyone is doing!

Karen

Time to open up the cold-weather hot tub. It's a little early, but so is winter!
