I made the mistake the other day of getting a pint of frozen dessert (I think it's called rice dream or something)....it was so good, and I ate the whole thing. I wanted ice cream so bad, and I had already ate a huge dinner so my brain said "what the heck as long as it's vegan."

And this is why I'm all or nothing, because for the past two days I've been fighting off those cravings. I can't wait for a few more days when those cravings are gone, because man they suck! I was doing so well. Good thing is that this won't ruin me one bit at all...just another learning point.

Good job on the apple....I love apples SO much. I have some yummy ones at home right now to eat after my lunch salad, it's hard to only eat one they are so juicy good!!!

Yesterday I made a big choice. I could go buy these yummy chocolate coconut milk frozen treats (the ones by So Delicious) and have one (70 calories), or have an apple (I'm not sure on the calories, but it has to be less than the frozen treat).

I chose the apple! I just wanted to pick the healthier thing. The frozen treat wouldn't have killed my lifestyle change, however wouldn't have proven to me that I can do it. This was more about willpower and showing myself I can do it than about anything else.

When have you overcome temptation?

It's just like my body will keep bugging me to eat more of the treat I just had if I have the treat, even only once. For example, if I give in and have that cupcake then my body won't forget it. I'll have cupcake cravings from here to China. It's hard, isn't it?!

One of you mentioned pasta. I gave up pasta for the most part being on ETL. I'm down to 1 or less starches per day, because they're low in nutritional content compared to veggies which I should be filling up on. Anyway, besides that being the premise of ETL, I can't get near pasta or I'll eat the whole box. It's kind of like the cupcakes. emoticon

For me it's pasta. When I eat pasta I want more pasta, and then more EVERYTHING!! It's just a slippery slope. I do have whole wheat pasta now and then, but I limit my serving and I prepare myself for the cravings that I know will follow. I can get past it when I get my mind around it just right! I NEVER eat pasta when I let myself get over-hungry. It's a disaster waiting to explode. And of course you know, when I get over hungry pasta is what I want!!

I stay on my road and I don't change lanes.

I have no problem at all, as long as they are at the store, when My wife brings something home because I won't buy it I know what will happen. I cannot leave it alone. I have tried the just one thing and it don't work. For me it can't be in the house

I think I've gotten better with sweets but chips are harder for me. Sweets are tough if you make them and you have a lot left. I'm thinking of a batch of cupcakes. I think if people can make single serving cupcakes LOL it would be easier to have one. You can do that with raw food but harder to do with conventional sweets or at least for me since I wouldn't be able to make the size conversions.

Definitely true for me - if I eat one chip, I eat the bag. If I eat one brownie, I eat the pan, so I need to remove completely unless it's in a very controlled setting - ie, it's the last brownie and I *can't* have more.... but even then, it fires up my sweet tooth or junk food cravings and makes me want to eat more bad food, so I guess not even then. Sweets and Salts are my downfall.

I just talked about this in the chat thread, but I thought it was interesting enough for its own thread.

My husband (who is in this journey with me) and I noticed that for us, eating treats such as confections is bad news. This is because then our bodies crave more of it, and it's much harder to resist. If I eat one of those cupcakes I worship, then it's much easier to fall into the addiction trap again. I do see sugar as an addiction.

What do you think is true for yourself? Can you eat cake and survive, or will it turn into a cake eating frenzy? What about just causing cravings, like it does for my husband and I?
