Sorry it has taken me a bit to get back to you- as I said in a previous post, it's easy to overlook things like this when summer is in full swing!

Anyway, she wants me to eat more produce (like what I'm doing on ETL) and less refined carbohydrate. No more refined pasta, etc. After my discussion with her I got more serious about my diet and went on ETL again. I've been doing this now for several months and have been losing weight. Right now I'm maintaining. This is because we're going to Vegas soon and I want to be able to fit into my clothes without expensive alterations. I already had to get one formal dress altered- $50 to take it from a size 12 to an 8!!! While I'm very pleased with the weight loss, I'm kinda peeved that it was so expensive. Oh well, the alterations lady has to make a living like the rest of us.

She told you what to cut back on. Did she tell you what to eat more of?

Every thing except meet, eggs & cheese has carbs. Remember Atkins? I think the key is to not eat processed carbs, like white bread, white rice, white pasta, sugar, etc. I have never heard of anybody being addicted to whole oats, whole wheat, fresh fruit, etc.

Most doctors don't learn a thing about nutrition, there are some exceptions, but for the most part they believe in the government pyramid (or the new plate)

what is she talking about, fruits and veggies are high in carbs, you may want to temper the fruit because of the sugar content but if you eat a lot of grains that is not so good, in fact I have read where grains are not need for health, in fact some have reported feeling better the less grain they eat especially gluten grains. I wouldn't listen to her just because she is a doctor, does she know nutrition. It is not taught in medical school. check with a dietition naturopath chiropractor or other alternative healer who uses nutrition to treat

Do you mean things like bread, pasta & potatoes, fruit? I think fruit are considered simple carbs but how can a blueberry be the enemy??

Honestly I'm not sure what to think. Also not knowing what you were eating it's hard to say. Technically everything we eat is considered a carb.

I've never heard of a clinical carb addiction but have heard of people talking about "sugar addiction" - I think I might have had one once - and have heard of people referred to as "carboholics".

This has been on my mind recently. I went to the family doctor a few months ago for a physical. She was giving me diet advise, and said that based on the foods I told her I was eating the most of and loved the most that I was addicted to carbs/starch, and needed to cut back.

I've since started ETL so I'm not eating a lot of starch anymore.

Question- Do you believe her? I'm assuming that because she's a doctor that she knows much more than I do about that kind of thing. On the other hand, is it really possible to be addicted to carbs/starch? I've heard of sugar addictions and addictions to food in general, as well as to chocolate (maybe I'm guilty of that?), but not a type of nutrient.
