fatfreevegan has a great pumpkin pie recipe. It has only 153 calories and 1 gram of fat. I made it last year. It is good. It makes its own crust so I think the deletion of that saves on fat a lot. Here is the recipe.

I made a vegan pumpkin pie last year. I think it tastes even better. Not sure if its healthier either because of all the sugar. I will save it for just Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Hi - I think veganizing these recipes to make them just like the original will require only a few tweaks - I'm not a baker but the few things I have baked were pretty straightforward swaps. Having said that I don't believe that just because something's vegan it's any healthier, especially baked goods, there's a lot of sugar and oil stuff like that.

My recommendation would be to find "raw food" versions of what you want to make.

Do you have any old classics, like the old-style comfort food that reminds you of fall, that you shouldn't be eating because it contains loads of butter or other fatty, animal product ingredients?

Pumpkin pie comes to mind for me, along with apple strudel.

I was wondering if anyone can think of ways to veganize these foods and make them less fattening at the same time, so we can budget them into our diets without totally sabotaging ourselves.

One thing is substitutions. We can use a spread such as Earth Balance (for example) instead of butter. However, there are other ingredients that would need to be replaced in a traditional recipe as well, and it would still be over the top in calories.

Your thoughts?
