I read the blog yesterday, but it hit me deeper today. It not only applies to weight loss, but everything in life, really. If something works for someone else it won't necessarily work for you. You've got to be your own person! emoticon

I'm quite happy I took a few minutes to peruse the message boards on here and found this one. Your blog really struck a nerve while I was reading it, as I recently reevaluated how my parents acted concerning my weight loss and your mother sounds so much like my father (Who I actually wrote a blog entry about recently as well, for that matter)! Good for you for sticking up to her, 12lbs in a month is an amazing achievement and you have every right to be proud of it!

What irks me is when friends or family will say "oh, you look great just as you are" when one look in the mirror shows me I'm 90 lbs overweight and look like crap. Some days I don't even recognize myself. I know people mean well but they should be more supportive and not try to undermine what you're trying to do.

Great blog so true what works for one doesn't work for the other and yes sometimes we do have to tell family to "SHUT UP"

Okay, I read the blog and OMG! That is my Mom too!!!! The only difference is that she was not skinny when she was telling me how fat I was. She would drag me with her when I was a kid to every weight loss scam she could try (really helped with my self esteem to know that my mom didn't accept me huh?). Also, when I tried to lose the weight the sarcastic comments that came from the whole family was enough to make me a closet dieter growing up. I finally came to the realization that my attempts to lose weight were making them insecure. THANK YOU for telling it like it is and you are so right - what works for one may not work for another and each person has to find there own "right" way. That is what I am doing now. It is slow going, but I am in it for the long term now. Is there a way to print out the blog? I would love to hang it on the fridge for my family to see (you see they are giving me there 2 cents worth too). This blog is emoticon

I just wrote a blog about slowest losers principles! Y'all please read it- I am SURE I'm not the only one who runs into this problem!

it's called "Shut up!" and it's about sticking to what works and being focused on the process rather then the results! I never realized how detrimental being result oriented can be until I wrote this. Hope it helps some of the rest of you.
