I have taken some yoga classes for loosening up my muscles, but I don't do things like "emptying your mind of everything" that they do in some classes. I pick and choose as to what I think would be okay. I need something for loosening tight muscles. The other choices are Silver Sneakers Classic, which includes a little stretching, a little light weights and resistance, a little balance; and essentrics, which turned out to be too much for me because there is no way I can get the stretches and positions they were in.

I live in an area where a local big-big-church preacher said that anyone who even says the word "yoga" is already on the way to hell. One of our local libraries has a chair yoga class, but feel as though they have to call it something else.

I don't do either. I have tried tai chi and might try again if it is offered close.

I've tried Tai Chi, I don't think my body was made for those moves. The other one I never heard of

I have tried both, but have not yet made them a regular part of my exercise program. Of course, right now my only exercise program is stretching the tendons & muscles in my leg and learning to walk better. I do plan to add them in addition to the yoga that I do on a fairly regular basis when I am able to do so. If nothing else, concentration on the moves takes your mind off any problems that may be disturbing you.

The last Saturday in April is World Tai Chi and Qigong Day. Do you practice either of these as part of your overall exercise program?

Overview
The annual April event is open to the general public, and begins in the earliest time zones of Samoa at 10 am, and then participants across Oceania, Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and South America take part, with celebrations in eighty nations and several hundred cities, ending with the final events in the last time zones of Hawaii almost an entire day later. Celebrations include mass t'ai chi ch'uan and qigong exhibitions in many cities, and free classes in most participating cities.
World Tai Chi and Qigong Day's stated goals are to:
1.Educate the world about emerging medical research revealing health benefits that t'ai chi ch'uan and qigong offer.
2.Educate about the increasing use of these ancient traditional Chinese medicine modalities in business, healthcare, education, penal and drug rehabilitation.
3.Provide a global vision of cooperation for health & healing purposes across geopolitical boundaries, and also an appeal to people worldwide to embrace wisdom from all the cultures of the world.
4.Thank Chinese culture for the gifts of tai chi and qigong to the world.
