I just wanted to let you know I had a great time down in Jax and St. Augustine. I did a lot of biking and even got to run a few times too.
I really enjoyed the Jacksonville-Baldwin trail and since I was running I would start at another location instead of where I did near Commonwealth Ave. For the first 3 miles it had no shade and it wasn't bad going out but I did 12 miles and it got hot toward the end. If I had another chance to do it I would start at Halsema Rd. which is the 6 mile mark but it was all shaded in this area. I didn't get to go back because of the smoke that hit Jax and surrounded areas.
I enjoyed riding my bike over by Park/17/Wells Rd. near the St. Johns River and so amazed at all the bike lanes. I am so jealous since we don't have that here. We have a few in residential areas. Also,I rode over by the Old Mandarin area with the bike tour and that was nice too.
I did ride my bike in St. Augustine since the smoke was so bad in Jax on Wednesday this week but it was still smokey there too but not as bad. Just glad the smoke didn't come until the end of the trip.
Thanks again for the tips
Sherry

Thanks for the great info about the area and it sounds like something I would be interested in doing. I will do some research into this and try to find out more about it.
Thank You
Sherry

Hiya Panda...

For the walk... Start at the Sea Walk Pavillion and head either north and south. It is a very nice area with lots of nice shops and restaurants in the area.

For the bike ride.... Would suggest e mandarin ride. I grew up in that area and it is a nice shaded and picturesque area. The Baldwin trail is also a very nice ride...just be careful at the crossroads....lots of blind spots and I have seen lots of close calls.

Another really nice ride is A1A, which is also at the beaches. This particular ride is perfectly flat, little shade (unless you start early in the AM) and a clean bike lane the whole way. You get to ride by the oceanic million dollar homes. Beautiful area, but the cars do zoom by which can make people nervous.

Hi Sherry,

I hope you enjoy your trip to Jax. I wish I could give you advice on the tours, but I've never taken a bike tour before and am not native to Jax. Hopefully one of our more serious cyclists will chime in soon.

As for walking, I guess it depends on what you like to see. I do like the San Marco area, but there are many temptations for eating and shopping.

Downtown has a neat walking trail that runs along the river. We usually start at The Landing. The beach is still my favorite place to walk, but that's probably because I don't live that close to the ocean. It's a treat for me to walk barefoot in the sand, soaking up the sunshine, salt, and sound of the waves. If you haven't already, check out this link from the City's Parks & Recreation Dept. It has a couple of links to some neat trails:

Hope this helps. Have a safe trip down and bring plenty of sunblock. It's hot and sunny right now!

I was not sure where to post this so I hope this is the right place...
Hi, I am visiting family in Jax in about 10 days and have booked a tour with e2ride bike tours and need some input on which tour would probably be more fun or more to see. Here is the link, http://www.e2ride.com/bike-tours/ for the website and the ones I am interested in are: Riverside-Avondale, Olde Mandarin or San Marco. I will be bringing my bike and hope to ride out on the Jacksonville-Baldwin trail too. Where are some good places for me to go and walk at beside the beach?
Any input would be great.
Thanks
Sherry from Memphis
