Linda I agree. My stove "blew up"-well really actually caught on fire and the element spark and burned. Anyway without a stove for days about a week. It is hard to monitor intake and to find healthy foods that are not too expensive as well, I worked hard not to gain tons of weight.

It is hard. I have friends that want to eat out on the weekends and I go. It is hard to avoid the delicious breads and chips and salsa! Even if I have a salad.

I JUST had this experience on Wednesday. I'm early into DASH and have had success with it so far, however, Wednesday I went out to lunch AND dinner and I felt like complete crap after. It took me most of yesterday to flush it out and I could tell that even the look (and feel) of my face was puffier!

This will be a challenging area for me, but I'll figure it out. :)

I miss eating out but haven't for quite a while. I did buy a subway sandwich last week I think. Oven baked chicken, provolone cheese, lots of veggies and light mayo over once-no oil, vinegar, salt, pepper or other condiments.

I am suppose to eat real foods as blood tests under microscope done live show my body does not handle the toxins well and my digestive system does not work correctly and red blood cells mostly damaged clotted together and not moving at all, more tests in 3 months. 2 days a go started xarelto blood thinner for clot in lung and need exact same amount vitamin K daily to work, blood tests 2 times a week to prove it, first test tomorrow, can not find restaurant chart that shows, vitamins & minerals, so I will eat a lot at home. I live alone so can eat what I need too. I only went out for supper 1 day per. month anyway, I like healthy home cooking more. I am also allergic to pork, gluten, dairy & all foods with acid, so very strict diet. I eat 1 cup of spinach daily to get my vitamin k and yes it has both potassium and vitamin k in it.

I have pleurisy, 2 types of anemia, macrocytic anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, from blood transfusions with wrong antibodies, causes blood to replace daily instead of 100 days, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years. Now formed scar tissue.I am 56 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well. I have new blood clots now,2019.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

I am supposed to eat whole foods--no packaged mixes or foods with lots of salt. Have to limit items like spinach, milk (high in potassium and phosphorus), bananas, any lunch meats, salted nuts, etc. etc. PS-never eat something called Star Fruit--it has a toxin in it that can actually kill those of us with kidney disease because our kidneys don't flush the toxin out of our system.

I eat out 1x a month now (it used to be daily - 2x a day!)

I allow myself that leeway of 1x a month and it works for me.

I went to Starbucks for lunch and had a bean, rice vegetable bowl salad for 500 calories & 1 pound of food. This includes the dressing.. It had kale,lettuce,2 kinds of seeds, 2 colors of peppers, bok choy, apple slices, beans, brown rice, home made dressing with canola oil and other healthy things in it, no vinegar. It can upset peoples stomach, it does mine. It comes in a plastic bowl, ready made and you could have it for take out. They have 1 other kind with black beans and chicken in it, both same price, $1.00 more then McDonalds salad and healthy and satisfying,it has 15 g protein,200% vitamin C,15 g fiber, 30% fat,but 2.5g saturated, so for one meal it would not be over the limit and it is proved with the mediteranian diet when they decided to add extra healthy fat to it a lot of the people were healthier and lost weight. They have one other with black beans & chicken added for the same price. The nutrition label with all healthy ingredients is on the bottom of the bowl.

Asian restaurants have way too much sodium for me. I have taken grain out of my diet. I went to endocrinologist week and my pounds have crept up as has my A1C. I do not want to get back on diabetic meds... So no grain and limited starchy veggies. Otherwise, doing low sodium, high potassium Found a product Vitamin Water Revive which has 880 mg of Potassium per 20 oz. Drinking that is helping. Because my PA disease is progressive, my body is depleting potassium at a rate that is hard to keep up with. Having surgery on July 10. That will help!

I am on a strict diet. I am on gluten free, no pork, no egg yolks, no milk,no yogurt, feta & farmers & mozzarella cheese allowed as these are the only 3 real cheeses, butter allowed, no margarine, no mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, pickles, potatoes
,corn, tomatoes, romaine only lettuce allowed, spinach & kale allowed. No dressings because of dairy & no vinegar allowed, I can bring my own oil dressing, made with olive oil. Any kind of rice allowed.
I will try a stir fry made with rice & vegetables as most type of protein allowed and I am also on a high salt diet because blood pressure is 80/50. All family restaurants have one stir fry with choice of noodles or rice with it. All bars & pubs here also have a stir fry unless specialty restaurants, such as greek.

Great Ideas! asking for some small changes seems reasonable for restaurants. I will remember that.

Sometimes I take my own low sodium dressing when going out to eat. I ask them to prepare the food without salt if possible.
I love going places with friends and it is always out to eat. I have to prepare for such an outing.
Baked potatoes are a good choice with sour cream and salad. If you don't have your own dressing, French is usually lower is sodium than the others or ask for vinegar and oil.
Many Mexican food places serve grilled chicken, ask for no cheese at these restaurants, that helps somewhat. Cheese has a lot of sodium.

Going out tomorrow at La Madeleine. The food tastes so good there but the sodium and butter are overloaded. They have a healthy symbol on very little of their foods but they do have them.
I will have to get that.

I went to subway for lunch with a friend. We had Panini chicken cordon bleu sandwich with real chicken & ham on it. It also had cheese. We had a diet coke each. I had coupons so it cost $1.75 each total. It was about 550 calories each. In the last 6 weeks I lost 8 pounds.

Panara Bread is a good place to eat because they list the calorie count up on the board,
Mc Donalds does this too but food is not as healthy as Panara.

I struggle with what goes in the the food, especially if it tastes really good. You know it is bad then.

That is great. My husband wants to eat out on the weekends, so I go. It is a nice break from cooking, but...

I eat within my calorie range every day, even eating out.

I only go out to eat 1 time per. month and most times it is not healthy. I sometimes have a hamburger with fries, sometimes a stir fry, not from a Chinese restaurant. I plan in advance for 7 days and eat 100 calories less for the 7 days, so I am not concerned with the calories at the meal. I have lost 40 pounds. It does not have to a extra 700 calorie meal but I do this with a friend and maybe have a snack as well. I am allowed a maximum of 700 extra calories. I do not have to use it.

I order asking for no salt to be put on the meat on my salad, if that is what I order. Chinese places are the worst on my blood pressure. Mexican, I ask for no cheese and try to get grilled veggies and guacamole instead of rice and beans. Still after a weekend of eating out my blood pressure is higher.

This is one of the hardest things for me too. We just returned from a 2 month vacation and I gained 9lbs because most of the time people wanted to take us out to eat.

Chinese use a lot of sodium I have not figured out what is good there. I try to stay away from the fried foods and soups. I try to find more of the veggie dishes and things without sauces.

Order salad when you can and if it is breakfast I go for veggie omelets and fruit cup.

What do you do when you eat out?

On the weekend, my husband wants to eat out and so do my friends. I go wherever, but find it difficult to stick to the low sodium at some places. Any tips? Like Chinese or Mexican food?
