TJ's cold brewed coffee concentrate - I love iced coffee, but made from hot brew then chilled gives a bitter aftertaste. I discovered this just as our temps are rising emoticon

From todays blog:
I am promoting Spark People emoticon , tomorrow for the LV Santa 5k emoticon . (My 4th year, the race's 10th, Ginnis World records emoticon will be counting us! We have won several years in a row for the world record of most Santa's emoticon walking, together at 1 time. Last year we beat out London AND Japan! With 10,000 Santas!) It is a fund raiser for Opportunity Village, a group of wonderful people, needing a little help emoticon ! I have my head dress & bird.... "Wild Thing" emoticon puppet all ready to go! It's actually 4 hours of walking including all the activities! FUN! I'm thinking of everyone! emoticon

I am 'covering' several of my Spark teams! If you feel inspired to join any of them, they are all wonderful! I made a promise to myself to check in with each of my teams at least 1 time a week. There are some not listed, because they do not relate specifically to the event tomorrow. Sure would LOVE to meet some Sparkers there! emoticon

SP Class of March 11-17, 2012 (my home team)

Every Day is a New Start- (they support me like crazy!)

Losing it for the love of performing- (I am defiantly performing!)

SP Largest Virtual Weigh in- (I'm SURE to be down in weight after this race!)

We Love Trader Joes!- (I am taking snacks from there. Veggies, Protein bars etc)

Earth Angels- (I feel them all around, there is SO much joy at the event!)

Readers of the Spark- (Chris recommends we volunteer, I am, for Opportunity Village, by walking)

At Goal & Maintaining- (This team keeps me accountable & they are SO supportive!)

Christmas Present From Me- (I have my present all ready, I just need to get back to goal!)

The Las Vegas Santa 5K Walk/Run- (This team motivates me ALL year long!)

The Woo Hoo Jar Lounge- (I created "Wild Thing's" Costume for this team, she will be walking the race with me!)

Las Vegas Sparkers- (Of course!)

Angels on Earth- (I'm feeling like one!)

Zumba Lovers- (I do Zumba 3 times a week, all year long to stay attuned to my body!)

Old School Trades & Crafts- (Being a third generation marionette artist & performing tomorrow)

On the Lighter Side- ( This team is represented because they make me laugh & I will ALLOT!)

Spiritual Awaking- (This team is helping me do, just that!)

Purposeful Positivity- (Laughter has gotten me through SO much this past year!)

Sparkguy's 10 minute fitness- (Chris, I would not be here without you! You are a master Motivator!)

Head to Toe Beauty- (I will be putting on my best Santa Suite EVER!)

Pilates Lovers- (This team helps keep me motivated to be toned & inches DOWN! I use Sheppard Pilates DVD 2 or 3 times a week!)

Spark People Community Team- (Spreading the Spark to everyone!)

And my newest team:
Birding Across America- ("Wild Thing" is performing the walk with me!)

I am VERY excited! I have been walking our dog, LADY LUCY THE WONDEROUS CIRCUS DOG, all year to be able to walk this race for so many hours. The actual race is only about 1 hour, I can walk a mile in under 20 minutes! When I first tried for a mile, it took me 2 hours, no really! But with Chris's 'baby steps' I can do it much faster! LUCY, too! I also hike & enjoy the activates above. With Spark People I have learned to have my body THRIVE on the 51 pound weight release AND just keep MOVING! I have been typing for so long in this blog, I need to walk & work & get back to my amazing life! Thanks for commenting on this blog!

Love you all, we are in this together! Go Teams! emoticon

My Thanksgiving TJ must-haves are Sesame Melba Rounds topped by triple creme brie and a dollop of TJ's jalapeno-cranberry sauce - after a few of those, who needs turkey?

Oh, and a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine helps too! (I go with a merlot and a sauvignon blanc - TJ has a great selection at fantastic prices)

2 new non-food must-haves:

lavender laundry drying bags - each bag good for two week's worth of my household's laundry - very subtle and calming lavender scent to clean clothes

facial cleansing pads with tea tree oil - removes dirt, oil and makeup - leaves face looking and feeling fresh

These are MY favs. from TJ's:
I know TJ is kinda of out of the way! I use to live in N.AZ & traveled 3 hours to get to the nearest 1! I contacted the CEO several times to open one in our area. After YEARS they finally did, but now I do not live there any more. The people of Prescott AZ are quite pleased, though! I would take coolers with ice packs with me. (Not good for their coconut ice creams, though, haha!)

Have fun when you DO go! Make a lovely day of it. I'm not sure what you like there, but some of my favs. are raw cashews, soy protein pd, Very green drink powder, raw single serve nut packs, pear salad dressing & cranberry salad dressing, near the salad greens, low fat cheese sticks, 70% chocolate bars, small, light kettle corn= single serve, BBQ pops (baked potato chips) Peace Peas= like a roasted pea snack, unsweetened almond milk, chocolate almond milk (LOVE this HOT!), unsweetened coconut drink= I use for cereal, etc., Olive oil, raw honey, french coffee, Charles Shaw wines, almond horns= a cookie in the bakery area= they are dipped in chocolate on 1 end. About 180 cals EACH, they are for VERY special occasions only for us, I sometimes cut in half & serve like that.... some are with chocolate & some are without! Cooked Brown rice packs= great for traveling! Single serve HIGH protein oatmeal packs, fresh carrot juice, 3 triple ginger cookies, baked tofu, Just chicken already cooked, Raw turkey roll, stuffed.... this is VERY pricey but delicious, makes the house smell delightful! Tiny yams, they look like little fingers, they cook quickly & are DELICIOUS plain! & quick for the season! & the list goes on!

I love Trader Joes! I have even thought about working at one in our area, if I need another job, but not time for that right now!

Have a Sparkling healthy day!

Hmm, I joined this team just to be able to add my 10 favs from TJ. It looks like we're not very busy here. I might not help that situation because I don't get there often since the nearest is 110 miles away.

Here are my current favorites:

1. Roasted ground flaxseed with blueberries-absolutely delicious
2. Sweet Potato Tots
3. Fresh OR frozen haricot verts
4. Tarte aux champignons-a kind of white mushroom pizza with about 4 different kinds of gourmet mushrooms.
5. Frozen multigrains with vegetables (already cooked, makes a great "salad" side dish with nothing else added)
6. a goat cheese log rolled in wild blueberries: Oh my!!
7. TJs almond milk
8. Chicken Gorgonzola
9. The fresh salad of the day
10. Freeze dried banana chips

nuts of all kinds
seafood cocktail sauce
various salsas - pineapple, garlic chipotle, salsa verde
sesame oil
kettle-brewed green/white tea with mint (1 gallon jugs)

Some of the above are things I can find elsewhere but TJ's just has better prices. But for others, only TJ's will do!!

Their Greek yogurt is pretty good too - I usually only like Chobani but I tried the Trader Joe's and it's almost as good.

I also find a lot of great snack foods there, but I try not to buy too many of them on a regular basis because they are addicting and I'll eat too much of them. LOL Things like pita chips, honey/sesame almonds and/or cashews, chocolate covered almonds or espresso beans, etc. Good stuff, but dangerous.

I also buy sunflower seed butter there for my nephews - one of them is allergic to peanuts so my sister can't even keep peanut butter in the house for the other two, but the sunflower butter is a great substitute.

I'm brand new to this team, and definitely have a ready opinion about my top 10:

1. organic basil (I really have a black thumb, so can't grow it myself)
2. kalamata hummus
3. This fig walks into a bar bars
4. Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon
5. Chicken burritos and Black bean and corn enchiladas(these are my go-tos for when I don't want to cook. My husband and son each have a burrito and I eat both enchiladas).
6. Caribbean fruit floes and lime fruit floes
7. Oh My Omega trek mix
8. Chocolate mints (the little blue bag usually at the checkouts)
9. Latin black bean soup (by itself it's too pureed for my taste, so I add a can of black beans and a can of corn--delicious!)
10. Veggie chips

When I'm craving Indian food, I go there for their Tikka Masala and Paneer Bread. Cheaper than going to a restaurant, and less calories.

The Luna bars, Whole Wheat Couscous, and Harvest Grains Blends are must haves as well.

emoticon GREEK Yogurt Dip--I can't tolerate regular yogurt ( emoticon ) but Greek usually agrees with me.

I was trolling around for other ideas/reviews and came up with this: bethnnates-sweetlife.blogspot.com/20

for the spinach & kale greek yogurt dip recommendation! It is a 10 out of 10! It tastes just like my favorite full fat spinach dip version from Meijer deli! I will be getting the T.J. version and replacing it in my Hawaiian bread bowl and people won't even know for parties!
Sneaky healthy! (My favorite!)

Trader Joe's Corn Relish is the best! I add it to a lot of dishes such as on black beans, on hotdogs, in an enchilada and in guacamole. It adds just the right touch of sweet and heat.

I'm on my way, today! I'll try the Spinach-Kale-dip! Sounds great! I live about 10 miles to the close TJ's. I use to travel 7 hours, (this is not a miss print!) to go to TJ. I didn't do it very often! I called the CEO (MANY TIMES) & asked for 1 to be put in N. AZ. There is 1 now, in Prescott, but I don't live in the area any more!

Oh and can I say that the gorgonzola crackers are da bomb! My husband found those in the pantry and devoured them. He's not one to think of portion control, so now I have no more crackers. I should've gotten two boxes. We've already started a shopping list for my next visit. I've been using the spinach/kale dip as a sandwich spread with roasted eggplant and red peppers with mozzarella cheese on fresh baked bread and it is awesome! Thanks for all the other tips!

I am only about 2 miles from Trader Joe's but didn't start shopping there until abut 2 years ago.
I also use the Spinach Kale dip as a spread for sandwiches. Never thought about it for tuna I will sure use it next time I make tuna.
Thanks for tip.

I've used that spinach/kale dip in tuna instead of mayonnaise, and just as a sandwich spread and we all love it. The TJ's that is four blocks from my house is the only one within about 100 miles (as far as I know the next closest is Milwaukee) so I am accustomed to seeing folks with overflowing carts too. I would not have given you a funny look!

Okay so I made my trip to TJ's and $230.00 later, here are some of the new things I bought and tried and loved!! The spinach and kale yogurt dip is to die for, mozzarella balls in the fridge section-yum, honey almonds covered in sesame seeds, orange flavored dried cranberries, Indian fare lentils on the shelf (I added some squash, zucchini and eggplant and ate it over a rice blend found in the freezer section...my husband even liked it and he's very picky!). white cheddar puff corn, blue corn tortilla chips, the high fiber bread, wholewheat sourdough bread, peanut butter with flax seed, roasted flax seed in the cereal aisle, and the fiberful chocolate chip bars...just to name a few!! Looking forward to going back in a few months and stocking back up on things that we loved. Hopefully won't spend so much money the next time!

It's funny, everyone looked at me like I was a crazy woman because my shopping cart was running over and most everyone else had just what they needed for a day or two. I wish I lived closer to one. If you do live close to one you don't know how lucky you are!!

If any one else has any other great finds please let me know!!

I need to start by saying I have been shopping at Trader Joe's for YEARS! It is difficult to get to a top 10 for me but here are 10 I think are great and spark friendly.

In no particular order:

1. Veggie & Flaxseed Tortilla Chips (3 flavors in one bag- Carrot & Tomato, Spinach & Garlic, and Red Beet & Onion) [shelf]
2. Meditteranean Hummus [refrigerator]
3. Confetti Rice with lemongrass, babycorn, & ginger [freezer]
4. Organic Brown Rice [freezer]
5. Chevre (goat cheese) rolled in fine herbs [refrigerator]
6. Scallops saucy with mushrooms & peas [freezer]
7. Baked potato chips Hickory Barbeque [shelf]
8. Black Bean Spicy Dip [shelf]
9. Couscous Whole Wheat (7gm of fiber per serving!) [shelf]
10. Tortilla chips organic reduced guilt [shelf]

Others worth checking out!
Roasted Corn [freezer]
Shepherd's Pie [freezer]
Chicken & Cheese Tamales [freezer]
Chicken, veg., or beef broth concentrates in pouches [shelf]
Almond butter with flaxseed [shelf]
Frozen Raspberries [freezer]
Gnocchi all sorrentina [freezer]
Luna Bars (chocolate coconut- the only place I can find this flavor) [shelf]
Pretzel Slims plain or "everything" flavor [shelf]
Greek Style Yogurt Plain 0% or 2% fat [refrigerator]

The best part is if you don't like something you can always get your money back!!! You can't lose by trying something new there!!!!!

I hope this helps!!!

I love this thread! Thank-you all so much for the info! I didn't even know they sold frozen herbs! Oh, I can't wait to go shopping! How sad is it that I find pleasure in grocery shopping at TJ's?! I'm sure I'm not the only one though!

frozen veggies - any of their varieties is twice as good as anyone else's (especially roasted)
frozen cubed herbs - garlic, cilantro, basil is always fresh and handy
quinoa - truly the queen of grains
dried fruits - great selection, better price
nuts - salted, unsalted, chopped, whole, slivered - you name it, they have it
wines - only 1 glass/day, but such fun choosing (the price is right, too)
plain Greek yogurt - so many uses from breakfast to desert
cheese - fave is Jarlsberg lite, but use chunks of others in moderation
coffee - wonderful selection of free trade coffees for any taste at moderate price
sauces - from marinara to salsa, a wide variety not too high in sodium and varied selection
