My problem is not enough regular contact with uplifting people. Wish I could bring you folks home with me. emoticon

I have to be diligent about caring for myself. 100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS is a great way for me to keep focused. Day 1 is July 1, 2017. Build habits to produce success. Most of these habits I have at least tried before but did not sustain. First habit: delay eating by using a timer.

If I must snack in the evening, I will try to remember to give myself a serving on a plate, or in a bowl, instead of snacking from the bag!

I am choosing some much lighter foods like soup for lunch or a salad.

In the evenings I am trying to drink thinks like zero calorie flavored seltzer or broth.

I, too, am going to start being more aware. Try drinking water rather than snacking and be more active. I have found that the urge to snack happens just before I go to bed, so think I am going to try and change my bedtime routine too.

I am prone to eating and not even noticing how much I have eaten. Hopefully, I can cut out lots of calories by just being more aware. chris

My plan to curb (evening) eating --or any over eating is

to become aware of food and putting it into me.

Start with being aware of just about everything, anything.

I got the chicken and broccoli senior plate and split it over two days.

Is the the emoticon of someone tossing their scale out the window. They are tossing something. Can probably be used for lots of stuff you want to get rid of.

We had a skiff of snow last night. I swam 50 minutes today. By myself so I pushed it in the middle and my arms are feeling it now. But I feel noble and happy and good about myself.

often get the house vegetable soup and an entrée. Some places have brown rice. Steamed vegetables could be paired with anything. Ask what is not deep fried. I think I used to get beef and broccoli nothing fried.

Hope you still have electricity. Not sure how I missed this thread. I generally rely on e-mail notifications and rarely check my start page. I should check that out.

One more day of sunshine here. Hope to get in a mile walk today.

My plan: Taking kids out for Chinese food tonight. Check the menu before hand so I have a plan. I really have to watch the MSG. Maybe just an order of chow mein and call it good.

I have been preparing foods much more than I used to. Only me living here now. (Hubby just started at a facility)

I cooked and froze: chili, weight loss veggie soup, chicken thighs in the instapot, and spice cake mostly made of canned pumpkin

I also post weekly and monthly reminders for exercises and chores on my calendar. Often anymore when they come up, I have already done that particular chore, so then I just clean something else for ten minutes or put ten things away.

Brrrr...it is cold and wet today. We had a beautiful Christmas with dry driving to the kids. So much to be thankful for.

Cathy,
I thought my house would be cleaner in retirement, but it turns out I just don't like doing housework... and so I don't! I need some motivation to help me improve on this as I don't really like living in a mess. The fly lady team you mentioned - is that a spark team? I've heard of the fly lady, just never looked into it myself. Getting a regular reminder to do something sounds like it could be helpful.

I wonder why the armadillo isn't sideways.

My lovely DIL always hosts at her house thank goodness. So much more room. She pretty much has an open door and potluck.

I belong to the fly lady team and I also have e-mail alerts of my own to do certain chores. I have found that I mostly have them done when they show up, so when I get an alert I either do the chore or spend five minutes cleaning something else. I love retirement. My house looks so much spiffier and I feel so much happier because of it.

Good Morning, Cathy

I have tried to find your armadillo and rock. I used my husband's FB to check it out because SP is the only social media site I use. I am so bad with maneuvering around social media sites. I did see the rock with the deer that was adorable, and lots of other beautiful artwork. Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry I'm such a klutz to social media sites, because I couldn't for the life of me find the armadillo.

I checked out your SP to see a pic of Buddy. He's a cutie!

We are having our adult children and their families over tomorrow afternoon for our Christmas get-together. Everyone is pitching in with the cooking, so it won't be too overwhelming. Trying to get the house in shape is more work than the cooking will be. I tend to let things crumble around me during the workweek lately. Then try to play catch up on the weekends. I need to get back to the Fly Lady way of doing things.

I'm with you on not doing any more elimination diets. Been there, done that...too many times to count and it doesn't work for me either. I would love to do Keto because I know it would be a better way of eating for joint pain (from what I hear) and such. But, I know my record with it, and it's not worth going through Keto flu again, knowing I won't stay with it in the long run.

Time has caught up with me again. I look forward to chatting again later. Enjoy your day!

Good Evening to you Elizabeth,

So far the good thing about the 16/8 is that I am not eating after 7 PM. I am trying to watch the binges today. One of the articles I read, suggested doing this in conjunction with a Keto diet. That I am not doing. I am rather rebellious about having certain food groups eliminated.

Buddy waited till I looked at him and then grabbed something out of the ribbon box and then slunk around like he was being bad. I know he wants fed, right now. It is time. I will be right back.

Yep, he is much happier.

Once in awhile we will post a picture of something we have done, but there are some truly fabulous artists on there that spend a lot of time perfecting their craft. We just want to have fun. I think I posted an armadillo, and more recently some of my rocks. I will see if I can post a rock picture.

Actually, if you scroll down the link above you can find my rock pictures under vulture and spider challenges.

Good Morning, Cathy

Do you know I'm doing the same thing, gorging because I know it'll be a while before eating again. So I'm not so sure this WOE is for me. I think I'm going to rather concentrate on cutting out so much evening snacking, but allow myself a little something when tempted. I had a huge fail last night and went a little crazy, so I think I'll do better by not restricting myself so much. If I find myself snacking too much again...well, I'll just have to be careful about that.

I'm not quite sure kombucha will be my "cup of tea" but I may buy one just to try it sometime if I can find the brand you mentioned. I've wondered what it tastes like.

I'd love to hear more about your art challenge. That sounds interesting. Our daughter is the artist in the family, as was my mother. It skipped a generation with me, I'm afraid.

Have a fun time!

I think SP is better for Online too. More here.

I am not having any trouble with the 16/8, but I am still cramming in everything I want to eat in the 8 hours. I need to stop that.

Kombucha tastes a bit like a vinegar champagne. I love GT's Trilogy. gtslivingfoods.com/our-offer
ings/kombu
cha/

Not all Kombucha's are created equal. I have paid six dollars for a bottle of some specialty brand and it was flat and tasteless. You can get Trilogy on sale for under three dollars. I consider it dessert.

Plan to swim and have lunch out with friend. We usually do an art challenge too. That should be fun.

Thank you for letting me know about TOPS online. I think for now I'll stick to SP, but may look into it down the road.

We do have almost the same amount of eating hours. Last night I blew my resolve of not eating after 4 pm. But it's a new day, so I'm thankful for a new beginning.

I've never tried kombucha but I've heard raves about it from a youtube couple who make their own.

Thank you for sharing the link. I will save it to read later when I have more time. I appreciate your sharing all your investigative information.

Gotta do a couple more spark things before I rush to get ready for the day. I hope yours is an amazing one!

PS Had to LOL about the WM Super Center possibly being the cause of your headache. I can certainly relate to that!

www.tops.org/ You can be an online member too, but it is the support I get from this group. They are incredible. Actually we are incredible.

Pitfalls of 16/8 included a tendency to eat whatever and whenever in the time frame. Have to remember to eat healthy according to the article I read yesterday.

Here is the article I read today. www.businessinsider.com/inte
rmittent-f
asting-experiment-2018-6#1-i
ts-nor
mal-to-be-really-hungry-at-first-1
I was hungry the first three days and I did have a dull headache, but I thought that was from going in a Walmart Super Center at Christmas.

What I am craving is Konbucha. Wish I did not have to drive ten miles to get the kind I like. Maybe, I will make some tea. I didn't get to eat today till after 12:30 due to swimming and dog park., But I think I will try to get more consistent with the 11-7 time frame. And strive to get to sleep by midnight. You were up about the time I finally settled down last night. I really feel better if I can keep my sleep and food habits more consistent. I like being up about 7am and going to sleep about 11pm, but for whatever reason my internal clock keeps trying to push it back. I think if I can get the food regulated the sleep will follow. I just realized what I wrote. 11 to 7 for eating and 11-7 for sleeping. That is almost the same schedule you are doing. 7-4 for eating and 7 or 8 to 4 for sleeping. Wonder what the researchers recommend. Time for some more reading.

I have had success with counting calories, as well. But I can't stick with it for a lifetime either.

Yes, I can find healthier ways of eating and I am planning to cut out a majority of processed foods. I know you're right there.

I wish we had a TOPS in my area, but the closest is about 30 miles away. I had a friend that was a member of TOPS in her area and she loved it. She became a "KOP" (I think that's what she called it), and she's still managed to maintain her weight over the past couple years, even though she no longer attends meetings.

I like what you shared about cutting out sugars and wheat a few days at a time. I have decided to cut out the majority of sugars I've been eating, way too much of it.

I am asleep usually by 8:30 or 9 pm, give or take. I know I wake up at a crazy hour, but I am one who needs alone time in the mornings. It's the only time of day I have time to myself and I enjoy the quietness of it.

I've been rattling on, myself. I'm going to have to get busy in a few minutes, but first pour just a half cup more of coffee.

I look forward to hearing what you learn about the 16/8 plan. Have a beautiful day!

PS LOL about the WM Supercenter possibly being the cause of the headache. I can relate to that!

I had two slip ups this week going out of the time frame, and I was still down 8 tenths of a pound at TOPS. I did write down the hours and tried to write down the foods. I wasn't perfect, but there may be something to this.

I don't think you have to count your coffee. You might want a more robust meal with your pills. Can you ditch the processed lunch with something more filling and with more nutrients and less artificial stuff to process? What time do you go to bed? You get up so early.

I used to hate counting calories too. I did really well counting for four weeks and then just stopped. I am one of those people that have to keep rotating strategies. I lost 50 pounds several years ago going wheat and sugar free for three days in a row. The fourth day I would decide if I was going to eat something with sugar or save that sugar day for a special event that might be coming up. I was able to do this for months. Granted I was fighting vertigo the whole time. But that never damped my appetite. It just made it harder for me to get down the stairs to the kitchen and to remain upright long enough to cook and wash dishes. LOL.

I have had several successful rounds of losing weight counting calories. Usually don't stay with it longer than a month. Of course this was the first time I actually enjoyed crunching the numbers.

It is late and I am rambling. I am going to go read more about the 16/8. I think we can do this.

Thank you, Cathy. The times and ways you ate growing up were the same with us when we were younger. Also, there wasn't all the constant snacking like there is now. As a matter of fact, snacks were a real treat when we had them.

I'm glad to hear the IF is working for you. I'd like to figure out a way to get it to work for me. I usually leave for work around 6:30, but I wake up at 4:30 and have two to three cups of coffee with a little cream while I read and journal, or do online stuff. Right before heading out the door I eat a small bite of something to take morning meds with. If not for the meds I'd prefer skipping the morning nibble, just not hungry after the coffee. During my first break at work I usually have a small snack, then for lunch usually a processed meal. Then an early supper.

I would love to work out a 16:8 window, but for now, cutting out the evening snacking is a start. Of course, yesterday and today, with it being the weekend, I found myself snacking throughout the day before the 4 pm cut off time. I also ate a rather large dinner right before 4 pm today. The one consolation is that I don't think I'll need anything at all before bedtime.

I should be counting calories, but it honestly drives me crazy after a while and I'd really love to learn to eat in moderation without needing to count. But I may end up resorting to it again, myself.

If you do learn more about the theories behind the intermittent fasting, please share and I will do the same. I look forward to hearing your progress with it, too. Congrats on starting to lose weight this way!

Elizabeth, Welcome to the team. So glad you mentioned the intermittent fasting. Our last program at TOPS was about that. Our program leader planned to start it after the New Year, I thought about the idea of doing it right now. The first three days I went to bed hungry and gained two pounds. I seem to be leveling out now and am down a pound and for the most part I feel good when I go to bed. I am kind of a swing shift personality, so the first meal is around 11:30 and last around 6:30 and sometimes I have a snack at that 7:30 deadline. I go to bed around midnight. I think I still need to count calories and I would like to start slowly moving all those timelines back by about an hour. It helps if I remind myself I can have a treat the next day. Then I don't feel so deprived. Like you I will see how this works. As a kid I stared at breakfast at 7am, went to school and was headachy and starved by noon Then starved again by dinner which was on the table promptly at 5PM every day. Once in awhile we had a citrus snack in the evenings. That wasn't quite in the 8/16 time frame but close. I need to learn more about this system and the theories behind it.

Hi team, I'm new to the group and decided to share the decision I've made on quitting the evening eating.

I'm simply making up my mind that the meal I have after work will be my last meal of the day. No more snacking at all after that meal. I don't care how tempting it is, I'm deciding no snacking at all. My stomach may growl, my taste buds may protest, but no more eating in the evenings is the way it's going to be. (I'll have to find things to do because I know the temptation will be overwhelming).

Weekends: I'm deciding no eating past 4 pm. Period. During the week I usually have my last meal right before 4 pm. (And then the evening snacking begins).

One exception; I am going to allow 1 cup of hot cocoa with a little cream right before bedtime, if needed, because having that little something will help me sleep better (I think).

What prompted this decision was reading another SP blogs on intermittent fasting. I do find that way of eating appealing, but can't figure out how to get it to work with my schedule. But I can decide on an evening fast, while allowing one cup of cocoa before bed to avoid going to bed hungry, as I find it impossible to sleep when hungry.

I will update a month from now how this is working out, as far as "sticktoitiveness". Also if I've had any weight loss by eating this way. I weighed in at 208.8 this morning.
