BOOKAPHILE - As long as it is recording fitness minutes in the fitness tracker, that is fine. If what is being synced from your fitbit meets the time requirements for the prize drawings, then you will be eligible.

I've been participating since January 1st. I haven't separately tracked my cardio as I wear my fitbit and have it synced to Sparkpeople. Does this make me inelligible for any prize?
Thanks! I should have asked this before. Either way, I'm moving forward.

Thanks, Coach Denise!

Well, I took my husband for a great ramble today with the dog, for an hour and a quarter through the snow and over hills and fields, which brought in some pretty strenuous cardio sections. I reckon that'll bring me back on track, especially if I manage another long walk tomorrow. So, I'll just continue on to Week 4 on Tuesday.

This is a great programme - I have never before maintained a streak of exercise so long, and I really intend to keep it going. My plan (one of the action steps this week is to plan next month) is pretty much to repeat this challenge for the next 4 weeks and get the habit consolidated. Then I'll probably start to mix things up with my daily video.

Thanks again for getting back to me!

SLENDERCLAIRE - you can do whichever you feel most comfortable with. You don't need to repeat week 3 if you don't want to. If you make up that time though, just listen to your body so you don't overdo it.

I'm currently on Week 3 of the January Jumpstart Fitness Challenge, and am really enjoying it. I have never exercised regularly before and this is really motivating me to do so.

However, old habits die hard and, although I haven't missed a video yet, I didn't do any supplementary cardio yesterday: Although I went out to a dog training class in the morning, that's not really a workout for me, but it took up my "exercise" time. I had a big rush on a computer-based job which took me into the evening, then I had to get dinner and go out to a choir practice... I thought "no problem, I'll just do cardio on a non-carido day to make up", but when I checked this morning I found that I had already had two cardio days off and this was a third.

Should I repeat Week 3? Or can I make up an extra hour over the next couple of days to get back on track?

I have to leave this team for now because I have been suffering with back and hip injury almost since the first day I started. I will rejoin as soon as I can.

SNAPPEAS - It looks like you joined the team challenge on 1/3, so it released that link for you based on that timeline. So maybe you started after that date, but it does use the date you joined the challenge. You can keep going forward as you were and don't worry about that link just yet.

I am confused on when to check off my completion for the weeks. I just started the challenge on January 16th. Does my week start on that date(Wed toWed)? Or did I just come in at the end of a week(Sun to Sat)?
Thanks

SPACEY84, You can track it under general aerobics. If you type in general aerobics it's actually under there and comes up as "Aerobics, general, low impact (including Walk Away the Pounds). Hope that helps!

SSATURN81, I personally would not count cleaning a pool as cardio, but it's up to you. Cardio is exercise that raises your heart rate to 60-85% of your maximum heart rate for an extended period of time. I'm not saying that it isn't work. I've cleaned a pool before, it's definitely a lot of work, but I would not consider it cardio. If you feel that it is a good workout and would like to record it as cardio, your best bet would probably by under house cleaning.

I was wondering if cleaning a pool would count as a cardio workout? You need to skim the top brush down the sides (and floor sometimes) vacuum the bottom and skim again to get the last pieces on the top. If so how would i calculate that for fitness?

TWINMOM9201, You should really consult your doctor first before starting the challenge. Since there is a lot of core exercises you might want to hold off on doing the challenge until you've recovered from surgery. Even when you're not doing exercises that are not core specific, your core muscles are often being used. You wouldn't want to hurt yourself or delay the healing process. It's better to be safe than sorry.

ASPELLWEAVER, I am Canadian as well. and while it's disappointing that we are not eligible for prizes it's understandable. The amount of money it would take to remove the legal red tape to award prizes to members in other countries would take away from the site. The site is free after all. The chances of winning a prize on a team of almost 40,000 members is slim anyways. The biggest reward in participating in the challenge is losing weight and getting in shape after all. Good luck with meeting your goals!

KATDANCE, Have you checked your junk mail folder? Sometimes I've had e-mails from SparkPeople end up in there. The links in the Challenge Details box for each week contain all the information you need and are exactly the same as the emails so if you've been reading those you haven't been missing out on anything. Hope that helps!

CARIEG - The main goal of the challenge besides doing the videos is getting in the required number of fitness minutes. If you start the second week videos today, that will still count towards your fitness goal. If you are doubling up on any given day to catch up that is also fine, but I wouldn't encourage doing more to get ahead. Building daily fitness habits is part of the goal of the challenge.

Congrats on finishing your first week.

SSATURN81, I agree that you should update your calories burned goal to reflect the amount of calories you burned in this past week. This will adjust the calorie range you should be eating within if necessary. SparkPeople is sending you this message since your calories burned for the week far exceeds your current goal. Sometimes your calorie range won't change when you update your calories burned goal, but often it does if you're burning a lot of calories. It's important to make sure you're eating within the right range because your body will often plateau and stop losing weight if you're not eating enough. SparkPeople takes your calories burned goal and does the math for you and gives you a calorie range that ensures that you're getting enough fuel for your body, but still creating a deficit which will allow you to lose weight. I know it seems counter intuitive to eat more when you're trying to lose, but it does work. Good job on your weight loss this week!

SSATURN81- I would adjust your fitness goals. I was getting a message, too, until I updated my goals for fitness minutes and calories burned (on the start page, it says "calories to burn this week". Click on the "Change Goal" right under that and you can update both minutes and calories burned).

I have gotten a message when I was tracking my fitness that my goals need to be adjusted but I'm not sure which i need to adjust. My calorie intake is on average 1300 per day, my workout minutes was 222/180 for the week and 1808/800 for the week. I lose 4lbs this week which I'm very happy with so what needs to get adjusted?

Sue - I would recommend updating your calories burned goal to what you burn in an average week. This page has info on how to do that: www.sparkpeople.com/community

. Once you do that, your nutrition tracker will show the proper goals for that level of activity.

Hello everyone: I have an HRM and shows my calories burned. I go to the gym about 6 days a week to do Zumba, turbo, kickin core ball or pilates. I burn approx 900 to 1500 calories in one day. My question is, how much should my food intake be? I try to stick to 1300 - 1600 a day diet. I was told to eat more but others say to stick to my diet. So I am confuse, could someone help me?

Thanks, Sue

Kate - It sounds like you're using the old version of the fitness tracker which is why the video is not tracking properly. If you go to your Fitness Tracker page and click on "Use New Fitness Tracker" it will switch to the new version and the videos will log properly when you click on the Track Calories Burned button.

After completing the video, I click on the button to track my calories and a box pops up that says "here". I've tried it with different browers and different computers. Any help/suggestions?? Thanks!

Hi team! I really dont have a question - I'm finished with week one and I see where to check off progress. One cardio work out video I tried today is Coach Nicole's jump rope - give it a shot I really liked it :)

welcome to my Vanessa Zone- Let's kick some ass and get it done! My goal is to get from 132 down to 115 asap (update- goal achieved- now going for 110!) What finally worked for me is a very strict cal restricted diet-it doesn't matter what kind of cals I eat as long as the total is very low! xoxo
