Packing my own lunch helps me stay focused and in control too. It is so much cheaper too!

I find that I definitely make better choices when I pack my lunch. It also helps keep me on track for the rest of the day.

I pack my lunch almost every day and what helped me at first was to input what I had in my lunch into the food tracker and only allow myself 1/3 of my total calories for the day. It allowed me to make more informed choices and I found that if I packed more veggies that I could not eat all of my lunch so I had the rest as snacks.
You can do it

5 a day has been good for me for over a year now.
3 fruits and 2 veggies, sometimes more fill me up.

If I don't have 5 a day, I am looking for snacks, carbs, sugary items. So, I now make sure
I get all my 5-6 in a day.

I'll add a blog about it tomorrow, and upload a picture of the chart...so you can see it. Seriously, it literally has changed my diet! The goal is to eat 150 servings in 30 days, so if I only get 3 servings one day...I can make it up! Which is helpful for me, because it takes away that "well I blew it, so what's the point now" feeling!

I truly Believe in one positive change leads to more positive changes. So start with easy changes, and next thing you know, some new habits just fall into place!

This is geat advice. I will definitely use this method. Already bringing in an extra apple for the end of day when my sweet tooth starts to get away from me. The apple takes away the sweet craving, fills me so that when I get home I don't go nuts before I have a chance to make dinner. It's a win, win for me. Thanks again for your idea.

Starting out slow, will work hard to increase each month!

It could just be your environment. I know that I have tempation issues. I can only walk past treats so many times before I just CAN'T pass it up. Its hard to have that much self control!

I agree with the pp, it could be what's "eating you". Stress gets to me. When I feel frustrated and out of control of situations around me, I tend to turn to candy.

This might not help you, but it has REALLY helped me. More than I would have expected! At work they had a "Eat 5 a day" challenge. So, I have to eat 5 fruits/veggies a day to get a prize (I'm motivated by stupid stuff!), and there is a chart with colors on it, and I circle "red" when I eat straberries/tomatoes, green when I eat broccoli/lettuce, etc. I found that it was easy for me to eat 3-4, but that 5th one was a challenge. So, now I think before I snack on something naughty "If I eat a piece of fruit, I can knock out another serving on my chart!" Its hard for me to overeat fruits/veggies, but the more I eat, the more I get to log! It is great to have something that is "unlimited"...and it has really helped me reduce my junk food intake this month.

I also have a hard time with portions on chips/pretzles, and they often lead to candy (sweet to balance the salt) so I've been replacing those snacks with fruit/veggies too. Honestly, I don't really miss them! Its not that I don't eat them at all, but I do eat them a lot less.

It's been almost a month on the challenge, and honestly I've noticed a HUGE difference in my junk intake! Most of it is just reconditioning your mind...which is very hard!

Anyway, I hope any of this helps. It isn't something you can change overnight. And, depending on your shift...maybe it's not bad you're getting most of your calories at work. That could be when you need them the most!

Hmmm.... your packed lunches may not have enough food in them or the "right" foods i.e., stuff that will keep you full. Or it may be a matter of what is "eating you" rather than what you're eating. Start journaling your feelings when you grab a food that is not on your eating plan.

through my food journal im seeing a common trend, when im at work my calorie intake is almost double of what my other meals are!

does anyone know how to avoid eatting too much at work?
i work at a grocery store so im surrounded by candy and fatty foods, I have avoided them but even by packing a lunch i seem to eat more at work.
