...and the comments in response:

"I grew up with the knowledge of Urine Therapy. When my sons were about 12 and 6 I PAID them to drink a tiny sip of urine once a day for a month. Just so they could see that they could do it if ever they were in a situation where nothing else was available. They did it. Soon after my older son realised his painful mouth ulcers went away and never came back., My brother used urine therapy for his Burkett’s Lymphoma ( also high doses of vit. C and herb tea) and was healed. I got rid of my severe fish allergy the same way. Just try it.. Or do some reading.first and then take a tiny sip. The first one is the most difficult."

"My grandfather introduced his kids and us to urine therapy. Not sure how he found out it. He is sort of a self-experimenter, trying different therapies (urine, magnetic, juicing, etc). At that time he used ‘Shiv-ambu’ (Indian name for self-pee) to grow hair (he was balding). And within 3 or 4 months he started growing hair. That was totally freaky for us, because now every single day we had to drink our first morning pee! As kids we were disgusted about it, but hey we had to do it! I personally applied it to my hair 2X a week for few years (3-4years), then some how lost the interest! For almost 30 years, he is consuming his own pee (drinking and applying on skin and scalp), last year he entered his 100th year! that’s right 100th year! Head full of hair, skin soft and supple!! He is now experimenting with fermenting his urine for a week and checking its effect on his eye sight! He does not cease to amaze us with his experiments!"
(wouldn't you just love to meet this man!?)

"I discovered Urine therapy about 20 years ago and have used it for all kinds of ailments. There is absolutely no mystery at all. Our urine contains all kinds of medicines. Hopefully one day the medical community will start to use this precious commodity. Yogis have used if for thousands of years. People just need to get over the “yuk” factor. When you think about it Urine is just filtered blood. Have you ever sucked a wound and tasted your own blood? Not that offensive. Well, urine in spite of the smell does not really taste that bad."

"I’ve used urine for baby acne and it worked like a charm. Some killjoys will take outright offense at the idea but you know, compared to the majority of common medicines and gross things we slather on our bodies (“lotion” for example), I’d say urine is pretty fabulous stuff! I have a friend who was a POW in Vietnam. He said they used maggots and pee to cure the gangrene on his friend’s arm. It worked and he probably would have died otherwise."

"a friend of mine told me about pee for my ear about seven years ago. I had a desperate ear infection. I used the little pipette that comes in some home pregnancy tests to put the pee in my ear. I think 2-3 applications and I felt healed. Of course, urine is plasma ultrafitrate."

"In the country where I come from [Russia] urine was used for many ailments, so I’m not surprised it works!"

"When my husband and I vacationed in Mongolia in 2009 we picked up a little book of Mongolian traditions. It contains an entertaining section on cures for various ailments including toothache, fever, mercury poisoning, and even insanity. Many of the cures were variations on the same theme: “Drink a half a cup of warm animal urine.” Sometimes it would say whose urine, including a fox, a mare, or an eight-year-old-girl! We still read it aloud for entertainment, but it must be based on something that worked! This is the first time I’ve heard of urine cures outside the Mongolian book."

"My now-6-year-old daughter became immune to most antibiotics when she was 2. Now I know she couldn’t tolerate pasteurized milk (another soapbox issue for me). The next step would’ve been hospitalisation + drip antibiotics because she was so deathly ill. (That’s when we discovered the wonders of raw milk.) My point is that pee is far less nasty than the “normal” alternative."

"Urine is actually a pretty well known remedy for a lot of things. I learned of it from an MD (internal medicine) who became a homeopathic because he was so disenfranchised with the whole ‘treat the symptom’ approach of medicine. He used it successfully for a number of patients and even taught lectures about it out of his office."

"urine for healing is very ancient…in Ayurveda urine has numerous healing uses….it is used to treat your own hormone needs….i have drunk urine….whatever hormones you make and don’t use get peed out and if you drink your own pee then the is a natural hormone replacement. The West is SO BODY PHOBIC"

"I have read about urine therapy and decided to try drinking for several months one winter. That Spring I had not a single allergy reaction (I deal with grass and tree pollens). Then I stopped, and the next year the symptoms returned? If you ever need to cleanse a wound in the woods, pee on it. If you’re stranded without water, drink your urine. It will keep you alive."

"My husband is a soldier, and they are quickly advised to urinate on their feet in the showers to help keep athletes foot away…and it certainly seems to work for many."

"I have used urine for myself in my EYE for pink eye. It works. I’m from Tennessee and suffered from pink eye all the time. My grandmother told me about using my own urine and put a few drops in my eye. About 5. So after days of being made fun of. Years really. I just got it all the time. I was 9 years old. I did it. I washed my hands cleaned under my index fingernail very good too. I pee’d in a cup. Then I used my own index finger, put it in the pee. Held open my eye with other hand and let the drops fall in. I did at least 5 drops. I never had a problem as a kid again. Then in my mid 30’s I had my beautiful son. We even shared chicken pox together. He was 4 I was 34. He got pink eye and so did I. 5 drops of our own pee later and he is 20, I am 50. We have not had pink eye again. I’ve told many this cure. They believe me but are like gross it must burn. It does not."

"We used to do cleansing enemas with fresh urine. Hard to do it for the first time as the thought of it just plain disgusting! LOL! But when it works, it sure works wonders! I lost weight, my hair, nails and skin looked beautiful, I felt great, my allergy subsided."

"Hello, First off I just want to say urine really does work for healing ear pain. From age probably five years old to 12 years old I experience excruciating ear pain I was a very healthy child and I would stay out of school for two weeks at a time and I remember my mom always putting some sort of antibiotic in my ear and using different types of remedies to try to heal my ear pain I also remember I would get swimmers ear almost every single summer and I love to swim and we lived on the river so that was a really big problem. when I was about 12 years old I went to visit my aunt the week I was up there I was having excruciating ear pain she insisted that I go to the bathroom fill a cup up with urine and bring it so she could put some in my ear. when I was a child I was very headstrong and Of course a 12-year-old girl does not want any urine in her ear so argued with her. Finally after about a few minutes of arguing with her I went to the bathroom and fill the cup up with urine and she put some in my ear. I can honestly say that I thank her so much for doing that because now I am 22 and I have not had swimmers ear or any type of really bad ear ache or ear ache at all. Recently I had actually seen a show on I believe it was National Geographic or history channel of different civilizations that used urine for skin problems, ear problems and other different types of health problems, in Europe they even used it to whiten their teeth."

"I’m 64 years old, grew up Amish, and seemed to vaguely remember [but wasn’t sure] when urine was used for ear infections in our family when I was very young. Since I had not heard or read about anything like that in all these years since [I left the Amish church at age 25] i decided this morning to type : Amish used urine for ear infections: into my computer. That brought up all these fascinating stories and comments. Amazing!!!"

...can so many people with nothing to gain really be wrong?

LOL! I get the point of bone broth (I make it all of the time)... gelatin is, essentially, dehydrated bone broth. The hydrolization process to extract gelatin gets the nutrients, too. Gelatin is the nutritious component of meat. This is the reason the quality of your gelatin is important. The brand I suggested is a kosher brand... the standards for production and for the raw materials used is much higher than the norm.

If you really would prefer to make the broth yourself, you can save some money and space by ordering bones from organically raised animals from the local butcher shop. This is what I do... in addition to adding gelatin powder to my nightly bedtime beverage and anywhere else I can, LOL. We go through a gallon jar of gelatin every three months.

I mentioned the protein part as an added point of interest that one could actually reduce the amount of meat one eats in favour of gelatin without compromising one's nutritional need for protein, while also increasing the overall nutritional profile of their diet, AND decreasing calories.

...now back to urine therapy, LOL!
(this is a rather schizophrenic thread)

Ramona, to go back to your comment about gelatin being better than actual meat....

The bone broth is not for the meat, but to get the nutrients out of the marrow and the bones. Put certain veggies (celery, onions, etc) into the pot, add the bones and a bit of vinegar to leach out said nutrients..... But if humans "are what we eat" so too must animals be.

I have not had a chance to order the gelatin yet, but I am hoping I can do so soon....

Wow, Berry! You really got into that book! I won't be ale to spend any time reading until after the weekend. I too ordered the book as well as the other one. I can't wait 'til they arrive.

I am also amazed that you have people in our life who might actually entertain doing this... I can't even mention the idea to anyone in my life (I think DH would freak out a little actually... I'd have to try it, get some sort of positive result, and then confess). It would be the final nail in the coffin of my sanity in their minds.

I think the majority of people would find this a hard sell no matter how much experiential/scientific evidence there is. We have moved too far away from an understanding of what it really means to heal for this to make sense to the majority of people... look at all of the ridiculous notions in relation to food and disease that people hold dear despite all of the evidence to the contrary.

I very much appreciated the article. Thanks for sharing it.

I also appreciate that you seem to see what I see... something about this makes real sense to me. I'm not even sure why. I suppose I find it exciting and faith-affirming...that God even provided us with the ability to produce our own 'medicine'. I pray that your family member can find it in their hearts to be more open to your wanting only the best for them and in being able to take a leap of faith with you.

Can I ask, what makes you so certain this is something your family member needs to try?

Okay...I read what I found of "Your Own Perfect Medicine". The link/book pdf ended on pg 144. The actual book has at least 225 pgs.

I've sent links to numerous people and will see if anyone will humor either the reading of (simple) or the actual application of said "treatment"!?!

I for one am interested; I have a nay-saying DH who thinks it would be "unhealthy" to even attempt. For every issue so far in our discussion, I was able to search and come up with an answer/response that counters his concern.

I have a family member who NEEDS to try this--topical at first. But that may be more of an uphill battle than I can succeed at accomplishing. Obviously, a very personal decision/choice.

Sure did like her overall presentation of how far we've come in the pursuit of Allopathic medicine (NOT to our betterment or improvement of health!). -- Many have left behind the sense of the design of the body to heal itself.

Pg. 57 "...But our bodies aren't machines, and our doctors should be relieved of
their role as mechanics that we run to every time we feel sick. Our
bodies are immensely intricate, sensitive, individually unique, living
organisms that need gentle respect and care, not the incessant and routine
overkill of concentrated drugs and invasive surgery."

Anyway, I've ordered the book to get the "whole" story. May be the only way for family to be willing to join me in a trial run!?!?

"All disease starts in the gut and so it would make sense that healing starts there too."
I have found this to be exactly true for myself, for my daughter (the True Story link is a bit of our story), and for my husband.

It's true that broths are very gut healing, but if you can't get Grass-fed/free-range protein, you can instead add high quality gelatin to your diet (in fact there is some evidence that simply using gelatin is a better protein/nutrient source than is actual meat) (and it doesn't take up a lot of storage space):

Also, adding in fermented food is also integral to the healing process: sauerkraut (even just drinking cabbage juice), yoghurt, kombucha, kefir, other fermented veggies, and prebiotics/probiotics.

The more important factor in healing the gut is eliminating all elements which damage it: all grains, dairy, legumes, corn, soy, nuts (anything with phytates), added chemicals in food, and any food that seems to cause you digestive issues or to which your body reacts in any way.

You don't need to go organic, grass-fed/free-range. If you just stop eating damaging foods and add in the above mentioned foods you'll be surprised at how quickly your health/gut will improve. We don't have access to affordable grass-fed/free-range/organic anything, but our health has improved beyond my wildest hopes.

Thanks, Ramona. Very interesting reads and so many links, it could keep be busy reading for hours.....I have saved it so I can keep plugging away at it....

I have recently started checking into Leaky Gut Syndrome and ways (diets) to heal same. Several places have mentioned that all disease starts in the gut and so it would make sense that healing would start there too.

It is hard, though, to find grass fed beef bones or chicken to make the broths that seem to be the basic building block for this protocol. I am just not sure if it would be effective if I used grain fed sources (the articles I have read advise against this). Organic would be OK, but organic is not synonymous with grass fed....

In the meantime, I try to limit my intake of carbs because of my diabetes. I do try to eat more veggies, but it is also hard to get enough to see me through the month, so that it won't go bad before I get to it, not to mention where do I store a months worth of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, cauliflower, the list goes on and on..... I have a very small fridge in this apartment. Sometimes I can get an extra grocery run in, but usually just once at the beginning of the month.

LOL! Apparently we were very naughty children, and very sneaky... had we been caught we, too, would have been skinned alive!

I totally agree about the lack of nutrients fueling your impulses. My mom knew a kid who ate chicken poo... considering the topic of this thread, perhaps that wasn't such a silly thing to do... eliminate both solid and liquid waste in the same product.

Here's a read you may appreciate given your childhood impulses:

I used to eat my mud pies as a kid too, but never had any jello to make the "icing." And even if we had any, and we took it for that, our mother would have skinned us alive....

Another thing I used to stuff in my mouth as a toddler was ashes out of the fireplace. I also sucked on rocks when we were at our cabin on the ocean. Not just for the salt water, but the little sand crabs as well....I was told it was because my body was lacking in many nutrients (I was such a sickly kid ! ! !) that my body instinctively went for things that could help. Today it would be a completely different story.....

You are so funny, Berry! It makes me happy to share with someone who shares a similar open and curious heart/mind! I'm sorry if I've distracted you form other important things!

I haven't started the book yet...it's Remembrance day here and we are in the midst of our yearly tradition of watching war movies and discussing what we feel and think... this year's offerings so far: 'The Boy in the Stripped Pyjamas' 'Good Morning Vietnam' and 'The Imitation Game' (though this one was bit of a blindside... I felt the content warranted a higher than PG rating)... I highly recommend them all.

Amidst the reading I did last night however, what really got me thinking was the fact that we spend several months in utero bathed in urine; and that urine is not, in fact, waste (I always thought it was!):

FROM: Urine therapy
www.biomedx.com/urine/

"The blood circulates throughout your body carrying these food molecules and other nutrients, along with critical immune defense and regulating elements such as red and white blood cells, antibodies, plasma, microscopic proteins, hormones, enzymes, etc., which are all manufactured at different locations in the body.

As the blood circulates, it passes through the liver where toxins are removed and later excreted from the body in the form of solid waste. Eventually, this now purified "cleaned" blood makes its way to the kidneys. When blood enters the kidneys it is filtered through an immensely complex and intricate system of minute tubules called nephron through which the blood is literally "squeezed" at high pressure. This filtering process removes excess amounts of water, salts and other elements in the blood that your body does not need at the time.

These excess elements are collected within the kidney in the form of a purified, sterile, watery solution called urine. Many of the constituents of this filtered watery solution, or urine, are then reabsorbed by the nephron and delivered back into the bloodstream. The remainder of the urine passes out of the kidneys into the bladder and is then excreted from the body.

The function of the kidneys is to keep the various elements in your blood balanced. When your body doesn't need something at a particular time, it is excreted - not because it is toxic or poisonous or bad for the body, but simply because the body does not need that particular element at the time.

Medical researchers have discovered that many of the elements of the blood that are found in urine have enormous medicinal value, and when reintroduced to the body, they boost the body's immune defenses and stimulate healing in a way that nothing else does."

...urine is apparently the ultimate in repurposing/recycling, LOL!

I appreciated the 'dirt' article... though I laughed out loud at the assertion that we should have been eating our mud pies as children... we DID! We even stole jello powder from the baking cupboard, mixed it with enough water to make it jelly-like and iced our cakes with them first.... And then there are all of those veggies pulled from the ground and popped directly into our mouths with only a cursory brushing off... and every twig and blade of grass we chewed on... and now there is my diatomaceous earth and my SierraSil, LOL.

I agree, we should all eat a little more dirt.

Interesting! emoticon l'll start reading the book...(so far, pg 25!)

I haven't given it a chance by reading up on the topic, but on a different note, we've become so sterile in our US society, that with tongue in cheek, "We could all stand to eat a little dirt!"

Okay... when it comes to natural remedies/medicine, I've always been pretty open-minded, especially with regard to ideas rooted in ancient medicine... though I recently ran across an idea that I find quite challenging:

Proverbs 5:15 "Drink waters out of thine own cistern, And running waters out of thine own well."

...Though this particular passage is usually interpreted as referring to the sanctity of marriage... and there is also Ayurvedic support as well.

Personally, I know people who swear that urine will get rid of warts. Several women discovered this back in the day when cloth diapers had to be soaked, scrubbed and rung out before washing.

Also curious to note: form week 16 on, urine is a primary factor in amniotic fluid: ""Urine is the main component of the amniotic fluid that bathes the human fetus." So it can't really be bad for us, can it... and perhaps it is very good?

So, what do you think?

Dr. Jason Fung: "Holy consensus, Batman. With so many 'experts' from Michelle Obama to the USDA to virtually all of the medical professionals (including doctors and dieticians) agreeing that 'Eat Less, Move More' is the way to go, you might think that it is 100% unquestionably true. But here's a queer thought... if we all agree that we know the cure for obesity, and we've spent billions on educations and programs - why are we getting fatter? In other words, why does this 'cure' suck so bad?
