Coach Jen,
Nothing happens when I click that button. I am using internet explorer. The question was asked of me wether we could go back and see all journal entries. I tried and nothing happened. I have only journaled once but was not able to go back and look at it nor the check-in info which I have entered every day.

Trying to follow this thread is rather difficult - it seems that comments or questions aren't answered until a few comments or questions later, and by then I'm losing the train of thought.

Marilyn,

Yes, at some point those people who choose not to continue with SparkCoach should be removed from this team.

Marylee,

Does anything at all happen when you click that button? What browser are you using?

Thanks,

On the check-in page the See Past Check-ins button doesn't work. Will you be able to see previous journal entries there when it does? Also it would be nice to go back and journal later in the day. Thanks for any help.

Finding Spark Coach very helpful though I have been a member for some time now - it is helping me stay consistent

I have prepaid for 3 months as I believe this is going to work for me so am looking forward to my 3 month goal.

My question:
Over 6,000 have joined this free trial - some might have paid the fee also - but after the free trial for those that do not pay up - are they going to be still here on this team though they won't be using spark coach or will they be deleted. I am asking this as this is a private team and it would seem unfair in some ways for those that pay to be here along with those that don't - not sure how you are going to handle that

I am thinking this is a great idea for new people -its simple, uncluttered and pretty easy to follow. I have been on Spark People for over two years now, and on maintenance for over a year. Just two problems I have with it -it won't let me track my fitness through Spark Coach -I get an error message, so I have to go out and log on to the regular site. Also, because the sites are not linked, one of the suggestions was to stay in the 1250-1600 calorie range which is not what my Nutrition Tracker is showing based on my exercise levels (its 1890 at the top) When I first started Sparks, the high number of e-mails and information thrown at you was pretty overwhelming and needed a lot of reading, but this idea is way better, great for a busy person not having a lot of time to explore. Well done for another great enhancement! Just don't like the idea of a charge, however small as a lot of us sought out this site because it was free and every little cent saved means a lot to some people on very tight budgets..
Thanks Spark people!

From the My Trackers drop down menu, choose planner. There you get a calendar and a journal also you can journal on Spark Coach on one of the steps, I dont remember which step but I think when you check the boxes on how you are doing. I hope this helps.

You might want to check the text that comes up on the payment page... it clearly makes a point in parenthasis to say that in the 2 week trial you DO have this feature. Hmm... odd.

At this point, the emails are designed to allow you to ask questions about your program, progress, etc. They don't work the other way around for us to give assignments, but we do try to provide links to resources and info that will help depending on the question. A lot of the other SparkCoach features are deisgned to give you assignments (like making a vision collage) to help you along the way.

Thanks coach Jen... I look forward to the next email..
I still have that burning question on weekly emails.. is there a way we can have you give as
like assigments or other things suggestions we can do?
Thanks

have a great weekend everyone.. Don't fight this.. go with it.. it's that tool in your tool shead that you know is there but you never picked it up and then one day you used it in your Garden and wow it worked better then the other tools.. good luck

i do not agree with some of the comet here. i been on spark for over 2 years and a member/leader of many team. i believe spark coach is the first time i am actually doing the concept correctly. but it would be god if you should have a feature where yU could emaIL IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM NOT JUST ONCE A WEEK. ALSO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHANGE YOUR ORIGINAL QUESTION. BUT THANK YOU VERY MUCH CHIS FOR THIS,

Can we add some team goals here? Anyone have a proposal?
One of my goals is to have a totally vegetarian (no fish, no meat) day once a week. As a carnivore, this gives me an incentive to experiment with vegetarian cooking.

Notspeedy,

If you click on my Trackers at the top of the page and go to Planner, you can journal there.

Spiralling_edge,

The "email a coach" feature is not available during the 2-week trial.

Hope that helps,

Coach Jen

FYI... I had trouble with having to re-sign-in over and over. I stopped and restarted my computer (I have a Mac) and I have had Spark on all day and no matter where I go, I don't have to re-sign-in! Just a thought...

I am curious - I am in the 2 week trial and I thought I had access to the email a coach feature in this time period; however, I cannot seem to do this without signing up for a subscription (which is not what I want to do until I have tried this out...it kind of defeats a trial!) Have I missed something?

Hi I just paid for my subscription.. I am really looking forward to this, I do have a question
now that I emailed a coach.. is this someone who I will be working with through out my membership.? and I email them weekly? and would I to communicate with them weekly .. which I think would be helpful. what I am looking for is someone on the professional level who I could communicate with who would be able to share tips, suggestions ideas a kick in the behind once and a while.. LOL but you get the idea..
Thanks

Anita

Nellie,
You can access past vdos. Go to the page with today's vdo and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen. There is something that says "See previous lessons". click on that and it will show you past vdos.

I also second the idea of being able to access past videos. I was on my work computer (no sound) the last couple days so wasn't able to actually watch the videos.

What I need is accountability, so I like the trial version of SparkCoach so far. I'm not sure that I would pay for one coach email per week.

Is anyone else having a technical problem with the program? Every time I move to another page, I have to sign in again, even if I checked to stay signed on. For example, SparkCoarch suggested that I check out this page, but when I tried to post, I had to sign in again. Same thing happened when I tried to get points for reading a suggested article, took a poll, etc. I guess SparkCoach isn't very well integrated with the rest of the site yet.

it would be nice if the text to the daily motivational videos were posted on the video page for those of us who have older puters, puters without speakers or old dialup or slower dsl services making it difficult to watch videos...

just an idea :)

Thanks for your thoughts Tricia -- as I mentioned on your SparkPage, now I know I'm talking to you :).

My meeting ended up taking longer than I thought it would and I wanted to finish the SparkMail to the entire team this afternoon, so I'll try to finish my thoughts for this board tomorrow. Off to a healthy dinner with the family (about 50 steps from my office :)).

Have a great night everyone!

I'm still on the trial mode, so no emailing yet, but as a chronically disorganized person I find sparkcoach pretty helpful. I get over excited, sign up for a dozen teams, then can't keep up with it all. It's not like I don't know what to do. I'm a smart person, but this website is about motivation. Sure all this information is out there somewhere on the site, but having the road map to what will help me most is pretty helpful.

I recognize that a lot of the info is from the book, but I like having it laid out in simple steps. $8 seems pretty good to me, but I realize that in a different time of my life it would not have been. I paid $115 for 3 sessions of crossfit a couple of years ago. I would expect to pay over $30 an hour for coaching time. And I don't even live in a big city.

I'm enjoying the daily chats with Sparkguy. Sure he may not know he's talking to me, but I believe him when he says he hopes I am making progress.

I like Sparkcoach so far. I know that itís not 100% personalized but in just the couple of days that Iíve used it, Iíve realized that I was spending more time reading and responding to blogs and team posts than I was planning my own weight loss strategies. Going through the sparkcoach steps in the morning brings it back to me and refocuses my efforts. Coach Jen has said in a couple of her responses that sparkcoach focuses on accountability. Some people donít need that at all. I donít need it for fitness but Iíll need it for tracking my nutrition. Iím looking forward to seeing how the service develops.

Any chance of getting some kind of ďwild cardĒ message one day per week? Iím on the ďmotivation trackĒ but Iíd love to shake it up one day per week and get a reminder to cook healthfully on the weekend (even though Iíd rather have beer and pizza)!

L,

The first thing SparkCoach asks you is what your challenge areas are. Based on your response, the content is customized to that.

If you want to have a "pay per use" system for people to interact directly with coaches, I get that. But ever since you put out the book and took the Spark Stages off, I've seen more and more users flounder when starting to use Spark. Making the Stages a pay feature will NOT help that. Put the stages back where they were for newbies to use to get started on the site, and figure out another way to charge other users.

Doing my best...one day at a time.

I really like SparkCoach and think it has great potential to help me even though I have been sparking for years. There are several things I had long since forgot and new things brought up in the videos that I can bring into daily practice that will help me reach my goals.

Also, lots of us get stuck in our comfort zone on SP and only focus on the area we like such as social support which is great but only one part of a successful program. If we avoid even just nutrition or fitness we are not giving ourselves the best chance to reach our goals. I think SparkCoach is geared to make us think of all areas briefly everyday so we don't neglect any part of our health and weightloss goals.

I think there are people who will participate more because they are paying for it and don't want their money to go to waste. I'm not one of those people but different things motivate different people!

*These are all just my own opinions and observations! (There is a reason mine are free! lol)

I hope this helps even just one person!

Hi Everyone

Thanks for all of your great thoughts! I'm working on what is turning into a long response, but I need to run out to a meeting and will finish it up and post it when I return from the meeting.

One thing I'll say briefly is that we will be adding in a bunch of things like challenges -- I'm working with Dave right now on some concepts for this (thanks also for some great comments about that below!). As a platform, I really want to take that part of what we do to another level on SparkCoach just like great coaches do. For example, just yesterday in a conversation with an individual SparkCoach team member I challenged her to keep checking in as much as she can and to send me a SparkMail when she reaches her goal weight. She told me that would take her 9 months. I said, "no problem -- I'll be here in 9 months." So she promised to do this.

I'll be in this team challenging people to reach more goals than they ever thought possible. Because of everything I've seen, I know this is possible and I'm excited that SparkCoach could be a great platform to change so many lives. You might need to tell me to back off on the challenges, but that's ok -- that'll be one more thing that we'll need to figure out how to customize :).

Back soon -- SparkCheers!

What I would pay $8 for would be to have that once a week email and 4 "Quick Sparks" that are sort of like twitter like interactions. You can "Quick Spark" 150 or so words (and that's it) and then get a response back within the same parameters.

This way if someone is having a rough day they can "quick spark" and get some help but doesn't require a ton of time from coaches to respond to. Or you could even have very helpful and successful community members take park in helping with the responses. This way people can get quick support or motivation at times of weakness but still have the weekly email option for more complicated issues.

Could also be just letting people celebrate a daily win, like avoiding the donuts at work...ect.

Thanks for the comments, suggestions, and questions everyone! We definitely plan to keep improving and evolving SparkCoach, and are doing this as I speak. A "maintenance" type module is high on our list, both for people who progress through SparkCoach, and for members who join SparkCoach after being on the site for a while.

In addition to email a coach and the video-based program, we are finding early users of SparkCoach are also enjoying:
- Checking in with their coach and getting feedback on their check-ins
- Having a set process to go through each day on SparkCoach, which also guides to help get the most out of SparkPeople
- The extra help on this SparkTeam; plus quite a number of people have taken advantage of the 30% discount to our Store

Since we are still evolving SparkCoach we are offering our free two-week trial, and then on top of that our unconditional money-back guarantee. We realize that with our expansive free site that SparkCoach may not be for everyone, and that's OK! But we are also finding a lot of members are getting more support and help from SparkCoach, which we love to see as well.

I must agree with many of the comments.

What do we get for our money that we can't find elsewhere on the site? Please tell us.

Thanks,

Cathy

So far it looks like sparkpeople plus a weekly email to a coach.IMO, that isn't worth the extra money, so is there going to be other incentives to pay for this service?

Adding some videos that are basically just video form of the original program and a fancier look to the page doesn't really seem like that much incentive. I'm guessing there is more to it.

As with what others have said, when I hear "Spark Coach" I think more than once per week contact. At this point all I see is that I would be paying $8 per month to email a coach once a week which seems awfully expensive for that. I understand you get a discount in the store, but realistically most people will never use it. There really has to be more to the program than what I'm seeing/hearing for this to be worth anything, much less $8.

Maybe I'm just not seeing the value here or maybe we have not been clued into the whole program yet but at this point it's a disappointment.

I hate to be negative because Spark People is a great and free website but if people are being asked to pay for a service they should expect to get something significantly more than what people are getting for free.

Agree with Cindi that Spark Coach seems geared toward those just starting their journey. I was surprised to find I'm in Stage 1 of Fast Break, since I'm actually in maintenance. Is there any way to update that information, and will there be resources tailored to maintenance? I'm finding motivation to be an issue at this point.

I am sure that with anything on Spark this has been in the making behind the scenes for a long while. I am also sure that as with anything new, it will morph and be tweaked as comments come in and Spark Guy and his team have always been receptive and responsive from what I have seen. This is a great place for those comments to turn into helpful tweaks to Spark Coach.

I think that for myself and many a "physical" nudge in my mailbox would be a good thing. Not everyone is going to remember to check in. If I am in the paid version, a daily revellie/wake up call would be a nice feature to ensure I check in.

I am hearing a large number of old timers rather than newbies who are signed on to Spark Coach and perhaps a maintenance coaching program would be good or boot camp or something for those last few pounds?

Spark has so many resources available to everyone for free that I'm just not seeing the benefit even for such a great price point of paying for Spark Coach having been here for a few years and knowing that Spark is like the nation and within that nation is just about every community you could ever want. About as quickly as a new program comes out - there is a team. If you have a need - search for it and there is a team and usually it's active.

These are just my random and rambling thoughts as an active sparker who loves spark and considers it the biggest and best community ever and spreading the spark is second nature to me. Please don't look at my comments as negative.

I offer these comments purely as constructive observations:
1. Only being able (once you use the paid for version) to have personal contact (ie one on one) with a coach once a week via one and only one email is not worth the money. There are so many wonderful forums on Spark People on which one can very often get very helpful advice every day of the week, and often from the Spark experts.
2. To say that one can personalise the Spark Coach experience by choosing a specific challenge is not really correct. Thousands of people can/will chose the same challenge out of the few that are offered. One coach per type of challenge (ie what one finds most challenging), means one coach per thousands (potentially) of people. I suppose it depends on ones definition of "personalise". The usual definition is "personal to ones self" which this clearly is not. Perhaps this should be made clearer in the marketing for Spark Coach.
3. To allocate 5 Spark Points for each very easy daily completion is not very fair to those people who are not with Spark Coach but are doing their level best to earn enough points for themselves and their various teams. It is clearly being used as an incentive to get people to join Spark Coach, and does not seem ethical, in my opinion.
I would be interested in the Spark Coach teams response to this.

I was wondering about challenges too. When I think of a coach, I think of someone giving you challenges and pushing you to complete them. Maybe a short video of a coach giving a challenge with a lot of pep talking. Could be a different video for each area of focus so we could pick one or more. Daily would be nice but at least weekly. then we could discuss the challenges on the team. Well, its just my thoughts. I am going to stick around for a while and see where it goes.
