twizzlers are my DH favorite sweet. I get him a big package on his birthday every year. I'm hoping that it will be different this year since he said that he would join me eating keto if I get lower than him in weight. He's right at 200... so it is possible for me to get below that by Sept... his birthday month. Another incentive for me. Of course.. I know how my man is... chances are... he will back out.

As a kid I used to eat twizzlers, and called it liquorice. Little did I know that liquorice should be dark, and not strawberry flavoured. But even the dark liquorice flavoured twizzlers have artificial flavours.

Tracy, ... we're not giving you a hard time, really we're not. I think over time your taste preferences will shift and that cheese that Cat posted a picture of will be more enjoyable.

Red vines are similar to twizzlers but different. A different taste, slightly different texture and there's no hole in the middle. They're more like a whip and similar to eating plastercine or modleing clay that has sat out for a few hours, but not totally cured yet. Lol. Fake plastic strawberries it is!!

Nevermind about my description. I just googled a picture and they look exactly like twizzlers so no idea what licorice thing I'm talking about, lol. Oh well.

Yum, the sausage and pepper jack cheese looks delicious.

I like the taste of red licorice's but I stopped eating them years ago because I hated how they stuck to my teeth.

I know "Red Vines" under a different brand. Fat free, but loaded with sugar. Sort of like eating sweet, fake strawberry flavoured plastic.

I have to agree with Cat, those are the things to bring to the office.

I've seen the breath analyzers on videos.

more accurate than urine strips but more economical than blood testing supplies

That's true.

It's not something I'm interested in...not interested in blood testing either. I know 20g of carbs puts me in ketosis.

Have any of you heard or seen anything on a keto breath analyzer? It popped up on my Facebook feed last week, but I never got back to read about it. It was promoted as being more accurate than urine strips but more economical than blood testing supplies.

I will make a confession too, since that seems to be a theme... I ate an ice cream cone on Sunday. And I didn't even like it! I actually scraped off most of the ice cream. But I kept eating because I wanted the texture of the wafer cone. *sigh

There...got that out of my head...was feeling a lot of guilt over that dang thing!

Well, we have our first wild fires of the season emoticon there was some lightning yesterday afternoon, with temps in 90's and wind. 2 small ones merged and it is now over 4,000 acres. Homes in that area (not densely populated) are on level 2 evacuation notice. It's still windy today, but not supposed to be quite as hot, so I am praying they can get some containment.

I made some coconut fat bombs last night. They are the mounds fat bombs minus the chocolate coating. The coating just didn't excite me the last time. So I omitted that and then added a pinch of salt because I like the sweet & salty tastes. My food processor was cool too...first time I have ever used one.

Well, need to get ready since phones are coming off the night setting in a few minutes. I hope everyone has a good day today!

I woke up in a cold sweat this morning, took off the slightly sweat drenched t-shirt that I was sleeping in, and weighed myself. I'm down 0.8 pounds, and into the top end of the 170 range.

Changed to a dry t-shirt, went back to sleep, and this morning I'm feeling a little better than late yesterday.

You could have been wanting the texture of the cookie, Cynthia. Even before eating keto, donuts we're too sweet for me. I'd eat half of one and have to drink at least 2 cups of water to cut the sweetness. Yesterday I wanted that texture more than anything. Of a nice bready dessert.

Yay... the cookies were nasty.... that's why I am asking myself why? I didn't crave them and even when I ate one... I took another and ate it even though, as I said, nasty. I am more just confused on what's going on in my head as to why I did it.

SIMCYN,
it is the long term average of what you eat that is important.

One thing about eating Keto is that after some weeks or months, sweet things, like those doughnuts become sickeningly sweet. To make an analogy, it is like nice music that is just too loud. Yes its pleasant music, but the volume (sweetness) is just overpowering and unpleasant.

I just ate a few blueberries. I can taste the sweetness these days. As I child I poured sugar on them with the cream, as they weren't sweet enough. I was sweetness deaf.

P.S. 25 pushups today. But I'm getting sick with something, so tomorrow may be a day off.

You did great Avery by turning to the keto fudge.... even if you did go over in calories.

I hate to put this down... but I had a couple of cookies today. I'm serious when I say that it's been months since I've had anything sweet. My SIL had given us a bunch of junky food (she's a shopaholic and buys things that are on sale even if she has no need for it... the junk food was on markdown). They were these coconut caramel things. Extremely sweet. I can't say I really enjoyed them. I still don't know why I ate them. I did still stay below 30 and to tell the truth... after I ate them... I felt so disgusted, I didn't eat any supper... so I made things worse by going below 1,000 in calories. The carbs would have been better spent on some good veggies.

I've been having a heck of a time with sugar cravings today. Gauge and my hubby went to a bakery today. I sat in the car so I wouldn't be tempted by the donuts. I was under the impression that they would eat their donuts inside the shop, but instead they brought them home. They each got 2. I've been smelling and seeing them all day! Gauge likes to savour his sweets so he still has a full huge cinnamon roll and a partial donut left. Ugh. I really wish they had eaten them in the store! I've been munching all day and went quite over in calories today. I ate way too many pieces of keto fudge today, but my net carbs were 29 grams. So at least there's that.

Another good thing, this morning when I checked my ketones, I was in the 1st large category!

Wow...this day flew by me! Crazy Monday madness.

Congrats CAT!! emoticon emoticon I need to weigh later this week..always afraid to..LOL

Well, weekend was good..except yesterday I tripped up some. But I didn't let it set the tone for the rest of the day. Temps reached 102* yesterday...too darn hot for this girl. I was busy Uber driving Friday night and Saturday. I took yesterday off though. Needed to spend some time with DH as he has slipped into depressive state again *sigh. There are times I wonder what he would be like without the bipolar disease. Anyways, we took a drive to one of our local dams on the Columbia River and watched some salmon go through by-pass at the dam as they start heading upstream for spawning. There were some really big ones!

Like a dum-dum, I was in the kitchen trying to cook last night emoticon It was 82* inside and I'm messing around the hot stove. lol Considering our mobile home has metal siding, the window a/c units do pretty good.

I need to make some fat bombs tonight. I got some some more coconut the other day so I can make the mounds ones and use my new food processor.

My parents had to put their dog down Friday afternoon. He had been sick for a while and was just diagnosed with pancreatitis and anemia. But xrays Friday revealed a large stomach tumor and his spleen was releasing too much blood still. He had suffered enough so they took him home and buried him the next morning. I guess my dad is really struggling with it right now.

I know my dad loves pies, kind of thinking of making him an apple pie. Maybe if I have a mounds fat bomb to nibble as I prep the apples I won't be so tempted to eat them. I know he would appreciate it...yes, I will make him one later this week. I can do this!

Will check back tomorrow...I hope everyone has a good night!

Mini goals / rewards are not my thing. They don't motivate me at all. When I get to onderland I will be happy simply because I'll be another 4 pounds down.

Besides, I've entered (and left) onderland a million times.

Ohh.. the poor thing Tracy and my heart goes out to your parents and the nursing home residents.
I love the NSV. The rings fitting is wonderful. Stay cool.

Did I miss something... is James afraid of getting on the scales? I've been having a busy time with my parents again and other things... and hadn't heard anything about that. I know he isn't doing his situps and pushups. Bad James.

I'm happy the scale is moving Cat... even if slowly. You are a very determined person, I am sure it will continue in the right direction.

Thanks James. I grew up the same way (my mom had 7 kids). I would have thrown out the bread and eaten the veggies on the sandwiches (lettuce and tomatoes), but my youngest sister is a vegetarian. So there wasn't much she could eat either. She remarked that we were the perfect match. I ate the meat off the sandwiches and she ate everything else. However, I'm sure she would have enjoyed the cheese, but I ate that too.

emoticon Yay Cat! A few more pounds down. For myself, first time on the scale in 2 months ... I'm 1.2 pounds up, to 180.2. OK for not having counted anything, neither food, nor my weight for that long. But I think its time to dial the quantities down a little. About a year ago I was around 165. Time to get there again.

emoticon TRACY6659, great on the ring (NSV). Right attitude on the raspberries too. In my opinion just enough to enjoy the taste, and not so many that it has a big carb impact. A little internet research shows a typical raspberry weighs about 2 grams, so 9 would weight 18 grams, and at about 6% carbs by weight, that is about a gram of carbs total. But is it critical to just savour these treats and not have a big bowlful. You did it right.

emoticon Avery (BATGURL250), great on the management of eating. I grew up being taught not to waste food. So eating just the sandwich interior, but not the bread, ... that is wasting the bread. It took a long time for me to realize that eating things that are bad for me, just to not to waste food, was not the right thing. Fantastic dealing with that situation.

Great NSV, Tracy. Sorry about the loss of your parents dog.

That's awesome, Cat!

Yesterday I ate entirely too many calories, but only had 20 net carbs. Most of my siblings and their spouses all got together at our mom's house to help go through her things, she wants to sell her house. (I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers). It was fun, but the only food was a platter of deli sandwiches, potato chips and hot dogs. I ate the meat and cheese off the sandwiches and ate a few bunless hot dogs with mustard. We were there for 7 hours. I was so exhausted when I got home and all I wanted were vegetables. I had a salad for dinner. At least now my mom's house is almost ready to be put on the market!

Howdy on this very late Saturday night!

It has been a great weekend for Uber driving! Drive all over the place...lots of long trips. I did good enough I quit at 9:30 tonight and last night at 11:00.

I did good enough on my carbs today that I am now having 9 raspberries with 2T HWC....taste ms heavenly!

Had another NSV yesterday. DH got me 2 new rings at Christmas. I wear one on my left index finger. It had fit below the main knuckle but not altthe way to base of finger....UNTIL yesterday!!! I just slipped down that 1/4" or so and it fits great!

I am not driving tomorrow but stays home withDH. He's feeling a tad neglected lately.

My parents had to put their dog down yesterday. He wasn't very old, maybe 7yrs old. Bichonfrese (don't know how to spell it). He had lived at the local nursing home for years as their resident pup...and the old people would feed him their food! But he had been feeling bad for a while and then stopped eating. Trip to vet, a couple rotten teeth with infection and blood work because his tummy was bloated and tender. Results showed him anemic and had pancreatitis. Bet said he needed low fat diet and iron supplements and more antibiotics. Two weeks ago they spent $700 on his teeth cleaning and pulling. They don't have that kind of $. He felt a little better but then much worse. They took him to vet yesterday for X-rays. Turns out the poor baby had a large tumor in his stomach and the spleen was releasing too much blood. Just sounds horrible and painful. He was a sweet dog. Cmon said they buried him in the yard this morning and my dad is really having a hard time. Feel so bad for them.

Didn't mean to be a downer there...just been a few emotional days

Tomorrow we have red flag warnings in our area. Temps pushing 100* with 12% humidity. This is when our wildfire season really starts ☹️

Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend

emoticon Yay Cat!
Every pound down is a victory.

emoticon At the end of breakfast (pepperoni sticks and fried eggs) I decided to have a Source brand yogurt, 6 grams of carbs in a 100 gram little pot. I also decide to add a teaspoon of peanut butter, another gram. The strawberry and peanut butter together unexpectedly reminded me of a peanut butter and jam sandwich that I used to eat in elementary school. Now I need to make some of my low carb bread made from protein powder, and ta da... a full sandwich. I can hunt for low carb strawberry jam, but it will probably be unlikely to have fewer carbs than the yogurt, ... but if it does ...

For some eating low carb versions of high carb things may be a trigger down a bad path. So be careful. I think it is the carbs themselves that are the trigger as they impact blood sugar. For others low carb versions of high carb things may be what keeps them from drifting away from Keto.

Heidi... I was wondering about the interview Monday... sorry you didn't get the job. I am glad that your mother is done with the rounds of chemo. I hope she is done for good and in remission. My parents are doing better... Dad had a day of confusion Tuesday.. but it had been a while before then. Plans for moving here are, of course, put on hold.

Are you staying below 30g of carb? Everyone is different, but you should see some loss... especially at the beginning. I'm glad you are staying with it.

I have some ML questions for you... but I will private message those to ya. It's good seeing the team members filtering in.

emoticon Good Evening, Team Keto! How are you all on this Friday evening? I went back in the posts and realized that I have not posted since 6/20/17. Moms LAST (hopefully) chemo was on Wednesday. They decided not to administer both chemo drugs so that hopefully her bones wont ache that much. When she started chemo she had about 35-40 rounds of radiation every weekday from November January (she only missed a few days because her blood counts were too low to tolerate the treatments). In addition she had chemo, once a week every week while she was doing the radiation for 5 or 6 treatments. We thought she was done in January, but the doctors came back and said that there were studies that would make her treatments more effective if she took additional chemo (two different drugs) 1 treatment every 3 weeks for 4 more rounds. She didnt tolerate one of the chemos very well and had TERRIBLE bone pain as a result of one of the drugs and then also the drugs that they give you to boost your immune system. For the final treatment, they only gave her the one chemo and gave her pain meds for the Neulasta (for her immunity which also causes bone pain). She had terrible reactions and her bone pain was almost unbearable. Yesterday the Neulasta was dispensed (happens 27 hours after treatment is over) and she took her pain meds and allergy meds to combat the bone pain. She said that she is TERRIBLY tired; however, the pain is being managed. SO, Im pretty happy about that. I told her now that this is all over, she can concentrate on trying to get better and put this ordeal behind her. I hope that is the case. If they come up with something else that might be wrong, Im not sure that she will put herself through additional torture. Im keeping my fingers crossed that this was the end. Maybe there really WAS a reason that I lost my job when I did (they always say that things happen for a reason), at least I was able to accompany her to her treatments. Hoping for positive outcomes moving forward.

emoticon Im still searching for employment, and I keep sending my resume out and Im still coming up empty-handed. It is FRUSTRATING and I really do hope that SOMETHING comes up soon. Im ready to take almost anything (I can always keep looking while I have a job until Im comfortable with any new situation that may come up).

emoticon As far as Keto goes, Im doing OK. Im not really gaining but not really losing, either. Im a little frustrated at this point, but Im sticking to it and not giving up!

emoticon On SparkPeople, Im busy at this point with leadership duties for the 2017 Summer 5% Challenge. For those of you that dont know (some of my fellow team mates are on this team), Im an overall leader of the Challenge Community (500-600 members) and also a leader of one of the Challenge Teams so, Im pretty busy getting that Challenge off the ground as it begins on 7/1/17. If anyone is interested in hearing more about the Challenge(s), please let me know you can send me a SM.

emoticon -JAMES-/James Good Evening! How are you today? THANK YOU so much for the encouraging words. You dont know just how much I needed them right about now. I know that all of the things that you are saying are true, but sometimes hearing them from someone else helps the words to have a little more teeth. Im a little down about the job situation also, so trying to stay on track right now seems even more difficult. Ive been doing ok considering. YIKES, I really dont need to lower my blood pressure! Sometimes people ask me if Im still alive, that is how low it typically is. BUT I found this group and Im really feeling a connection with all of you and dont want to leave! Funny, when in doubt, Ive been having a Caesar salad, no croutons (wherever I go)! OMG, you lived in Deutschland? My parents are both from there and met at The German Club in Newark, NJ back in the mid-late 50s. My father comes from Dusseldorf (near Koeln ~ or Cologne), and my mother comes from the south (she says she is a Southern Belle ~ she lived in Kirchheim unter Teck, near Stuttgart). Ive visited Rhode Island Newport and loved it there. You really have lived in quite a few places. Go figure, my parents have lived in ONE house for almost 58 years! Some stay put; some move around. I would have loved to move in more places and seen more areas. Thanks for the eating out at restaurants tips!

emoticon CAT125/Cat Good Evening! How are you today? You have seen what happen? The lower blood pressure thing? Like I said in James post, I dont want to have to leave this team because Keto isnt right for me!!! I didnt even realize that there was a new thread about eating Im glad James mentioned it. Ill have to go and check it out!

emoticon BATGURL250/Avery Good Evening! How are you today? I havent even opened the sweetener that I bought I eat so little added sugar. Ill have to remember the Monk fruit sugar but will have to be mindful of the ingredients. Oh boy, you mentioned chocolate cake. I could definitely indulge in a piece of that thank goodness there is none at home! Maybe Ill make Keto Ice Cream later on. AWESOME job not giving in to the food court smells!!! I started on 6/1/17 and have lost 4.4 lbs. as of this morning. Not bad, I was hoping for more, but Ill take it! Im glad to hear that you and your son had a great time with your sister. I havent touched chocolate or peanut butter (peanut butter is harder for me to stay away from) since 6/1 and so far, so good but I would have loved to join you in your peanut butter fudge!

emoticon TRACY6659/Tracy Good Evening! How are you today? Thanks for sharing the label of the bread. The one thing that concerns me - I dont like when they advertise NET carbs, Im glad that they did put total carbs so that you can do your own NET at the end of the day. You said that these tasted pretty good? Are they made with wheat? Im a little wheat-sensitive, would love to find something that doesnt use wheat (or corn) flour yeah, somewhat corn-sensitive also according to recent blood-work. DH does most of the cooking in our house and he is trying to do things that I can eat but I really need to get more involved and plan some stuff, too. Sorry that you are feeling so cold especially in this heat!

emoticon SIMCYN/Cynthia Good Evening! How are you today? Of course IKEA sells food! If there is a way that they can make a little extra $, they will sell! I havent been to an IKEA in AGES, Im not sure what they sell, but if I remember correctly they sold a little of everything you could imagine! I love reading about your NSV thicker hair/feeling less cold/better skin, etc. Thanks for sharing! Im sure that you know that your sister-in-law meant well, and probably doesnt even realize how bad the stuff is that she sent. Im sure she meant well, which I know that you know!

emoticon KAUAICAROLANNN/Carolann Good Evening! How are you today? Thanks for sending the remnants of Cindy up my way as now we are having the rain! Congrats on the fast! I havent even thought about doing something like that. Sorry that DH wont do Keto with you, my DH tries to do Keto and will even cook without additional carbs, but then he likes his few cans of beer! So, that kind of defeats the purpose, huh? I use Estroven, that helped me with the flashes, but I dont have the severe flashes anymore.

emoticon Well, Im all caught up with the Keto chat once again. Enjoy the rest of your day!!!

Talk about bad food ... my SIL just sent home with the boys 3 packages of keebler cookies... Gardenias snacks, taquitos, and the most most horrid sugary cereal. One of the boxes of cereal... granola... has over 50g of sugar in 1/4 cup serving. What crap! I love her... but what the hey? I tried to talk my DH in letting me throw the stuff out. It's not happening. Uggh. OK...done complaining.

I only crave chocolate during my time of month. So in a few days, I expect it to be gone. Lol, it didn't help that my son had a chocolate bar today either. It could have been more power of suggestion than anything else.

I have craved other things, but for the life of me I can't think of any but chocolate right now, lol.

Great job not having cravings, Cat!

That's one thing I haven't had to deal with yet. I've had 0 cravings so far. I ate pretty clean before going Keto. All I really had to give up was beans, rice, potatoes, and popcorn.

Love my plants! emoticon

Oh my goodness, the chocolate cravings have been ridiculous today. I ate 5 squares of a Lily's chocolate almond bar and that didn't help. (Lily's chocolates are sweetened with Stevia and erythritol I believe). So I made a batch of my fudge and added peanut butter to it. I ate 2 pieces (3 grams net carbs combined) and now I'm good.

Tracy,
one key ingredient to weight loss, and to Keto, is really caring about what you eat.

It is OK to get into situations where you find you ate too much of this or that, or didn't plan well enough. The main thing is to be aware and make continually better choices. That happens with time, you just get to know what things have higher carbs. You usually eat them, then look up the nutrition, and then go, oops.

I was like that with cashews. I love them. I ate a lot of them, just a nut I thought, got to be pretty low in carbs. Then I looked it up, more carbs than mashed potatoes.

As for eating fatty things. As long as your digestion doesn't bother you, you're fine. Its the old incorrect assumption that one should eat the most weight of food for the least calories that is wrong. So fats don't let you eat the same weight of food. 9 calories per gram, compared to carbs which are 4 per gram. But, and this is a big but, fats digest slower, keep your blood sugar more even, and your hunger more even.

So don't worry about the fats.

We are creeping to 100* this weekend and then mid-90s all next week emoticon Too HOT for me! I feel for you folks that have been in the super high temps already....

Yesterday I went a little over on my carbs emoticon I know it is due to lack of planning this week. My net carbs were fine, but the overall was more than I want. I sure hope that I can get my act together this weekend and get my plan in place for next week.

Tonight will be a late night of being online for Uber driving. I can sleep in a little tomorrow, then I will be online all day and night. If I do well enough I can take Sunday off. Mom wants me to go shopping with her on Sunday - I could get a free meal out emoticon Love going places with mom. I also need to carve out time and actually apply myself (LOL) to clean and organize the bedroom.

I still feel weird eating so much fat when I see it all on paper. I keep thinking should I cut back, or just leave it for now. I know I'm still in the beginning stages of my new lifestyle and learning what to eat and when. So maybe I will just trust in the process as it is for now and if the scale or body stops showing improvements I can adjust on-the-fly.

I would love for my menopause symptoms to get railed in enough to not have to take the HRT. The new med is inexpensive, but if I don't need it, I would just assume reduce my health risk to side effects from it and not take it. Time will tell.

I hope everyone is doing well and has a great day!
