Where have I been? I just found this and it began in July???????
READ- we have read a lot of the same books! Id love to be a part of this. I've never been in a book club or reading group before. My favorite read of the year is: The Last Letter from Juliet by Melanie Hudson. Hands down most unusual story and creative writing ever!!!!! 5+ stars out of 5. I'm gushing, but it was superb. Its one of those you do not want to end. Its one you want to crawl into the book and live there. I read at least one book a week. I've read 80 books for the year so far. I also love to hold a book in my hands (love the library) once in a while the book I'm looking for is only available on my reader. The book I mentioned above was just that, but I was excited it was only .99 cents.
Happy Reading

That would be fun, I think. Ive never belonged to one, so how do we choose a book? We all read the same book at the same time?

I also prefer books over kindle I reserve books at the library. Easy. I only use the tablet when can’t find it in paper. Something about sitting down with a book in hand, so relaxing Ahh

that it is, KD!! i was raised by parents that would take us to the library with a box before vacation. we could pick 10-20 books each. those boxes were put at the foot of our beds at camp, and we always woke up before Ma and Daddy, and we would read until they woke up...and we were allowed to read for half an hour at bedtime. then we would sneak flashlights under the covers and read longer LOL!!
you know my attic that i'm trying to purge? at least half the boxes are full of..books!! many, many childrens books, novels, my dad gave my kids a set of the classics...huck finn, Caddie Woodlawn, dickens, treasure island..they are bound in red with gold names...just a fantastic set i cant part with.
i love books!!

NIGHTSKYSTAR,
I too am old school, I like paper, I like to feel a book and get a physical sense of where the book mark is and how much there is to go.

My wife, on the other hand, has moved to reading on her tablet, a lot of old classics are free.

Mari I am on book 5 of the Outlander series - and have read all (except the last) of Louise Penney's books. Excellent, both of them. Outlander books are so long though!! I read really fast, so love to download my books on my kindle and scroll through them. Takes too much effort now to hold a book open, and the font is very small!! On the Kindle you can adjust to your taste, and then no glasses are needed.

I have also read all the David Baldacci books. Another great author.

I just finished reading "The Road to Mercy" by David Baldacci. A crime, thriller about a woman
FBI agent with a strong, kick a** personality.
I also read, on Holly's recommendation, the first book in the series by Louise Penny , "Still Life"
I'm looking for the 2nd book to read.
Currently reading "Inside Out" a memoir by Demi Moore. I'm curious because I heard people were upset of what she wrote. Lol

I'm an Outlander fan too. I read all 9 books but I can't watch the show anymore because I know what happens. Claire and Jaime suffer so much!

I'm reading Circe by Madeline Miller right now.

Outlander begins with a nurse (1945) slipping through a circle of stones and ending up in 1732. She falls in love and gets married and has all sort of intense stuff happening to her. Ending with her going back to 1945 at the end of the book. Book Two begins 20 years later... and we'll see what happens.

Basically time travel...

I did the preorder on amazon and had the books usually the day before release. Then I’d hide it and read fast until my son realized it was here..then he got it and the second he was on the bus I’d be back at it. So loved them they are like old friends!!

I was one of those who stood in line at night to get the last in the series. I truly loved those books. DGD was here yesterday and I started reading the first chapter to her. She loved it! Isn't part of the joy of reading good books sharing them with others?

KD, flying/traveling is a great time to read! The time will go quickly. Someone needs to tell me what the Outlander series is about. I really have no idea. I'm kind of out of touch I guess.

I started the Outlander series - and am enjoying Book Two right now. Dragonfly in Amber. It's starting out slowly, but still enjoyable reading. The books are so long that it'll take me a good long while, and since I check them out of the library on my ipad, I have to get them done in 3 weeks.

Since I'm traveling to see DH next weekend (woohoo!!) I'll have lots of reading time on the airplane and between flights. The whole trip is over 10 hours.

Two good books I've read lately-The Book That Matters Most and The Most Fun We Ever Had. The first one has a really good twist at the end that should surprise you. The second I haven't quite finished yet. I have a student in my class who is really into Harry Potter, so I have started reading the series again. I loved it the first time and that has not changed. Almost done with The Sorcerer's Stone.

I think the quality of Evanovich's writing is sub par. Sort of like Nora Roberts.

thats why i like louise penney. while they are murder mysteries, they arent gory..they focus on the characters not the crime scene. i didnt think i would like them as i hate murder stories.

i still havent opened the harlan coban ones...hoping they arent gory.

Sho I kind of agree with you. I'm up to book 3 in the Jack Noble series - I'm going to break from that for awhile since it's pretty violent.

I'll check your author out - I started Amazon Unlimited and have my 10 at a time fully booked right now.

I've taken a break from crime/mystery books. I found a new romance author.. Sally Throne.

I just read a good book. Not my usual mystery. It is a story about family secrets.
A new author for me and I enjoyed the book.

Half Past: A novel by Victoria Helen Stone

it was!! i had known from the town historian that it was suspected and there was some evidence it had been a UR stop. but the hidden room clinched it and was solid proof. as were the tunnels they found under several local churches. Once they got in to canada all was fine...Canada was, and is, much more accepting and welcoming than the US. such a shame they had to run at all, but as i said i'm so glad my house was part of kindness not hate!!

thank you Read I'm always looking for good books!!
Heres an interesting fact..my house, and some of the churches in the area..were underground railroad safe houses. mine was built in the 1700s. in 1998 within months of moving in we had a huge ice storm. no power for 18 days. and my 2 chimneys fell..right into a secret underground room that had been used for hiding the slaves!
i am less than 20 miles from the canadian border..as the crow flies less than 10...so this was the last stretch before safety and they were often caught just before reaching the border. i think its pretty cool my house was part of helping people!!

Just finished Before We Were Yours, which was on my list, but I actually hadn't read. I think it was excellent. 4.5 out of 5.

A Marriage of Opposites was also excellent. 4.5 out of 5.

Both of these books are based on real people and facts. I like the fact that book club gets me reading things I might not have picked myself. Stretches my mind a bit. We're reading an Underground Railroad book this month, but I haven't started it yet. Need to get going lol.

KD, I use to love waiting for John Grisham books to come out. I have read all his books. I love his earlier books the best. I have not read "The Reckoning" yet.

Kathleen - there have been a lot of those kinds of books being written lately. I just checked to see if I had read it, and I had not.

I just finished "The Reckoning" by John Grisham. Yawn. Lots of twists and turns (for a change with John Grisham who I think is usually predictable) but it's not much of a legal book at all. Goes into a lot of detail of WW2 and American soldiers' experiences in the Philippines, which was interesting. But the book ended like jumping off a cliff. I enjoy epilogues... and this definitely did not have one.

Okay - now I have a bunch of books to read!!

I read "The President's Missing" by James Patterson and Bill Clinton recently. Although I am NOT a democrat - I loved this book!! So well written and lots of twists and turns. I'd call it a political thriller.

I have read the entire Three Pines series. I love them too.

I love Lee Childs' Jack Reacher books. There are 18 of them, and most you can find at the library. He's a macho military guy who kills with never getting prosecuted (he only kills bad guys) but it's an enjoyable read every time.

I am in the middle of "Room" at the office right now in paperback. Sort of difficult to read, but poignant. Hoping it will have a good ending. Does anyone know if it's a true story?

Off to my real job..... only one patient today, so perhaps when my paperwork is done I'll read!!

I just finished reading a series of nine books by Scott Pratt.

4 STARS out of 5
Book 1: An innocent Client by Scott Pratt ( The Joe Dillard series book 1)

Start with book one and read in order. Last one was book 9.
Joe Dillard is a lawyer and he helps solves crime cases. Crime, mystery and family drama all rolled into a great series. I think these books were excellent.
