Kathleen...we only had healthy as a kid..just big portions. my mom hated to cook, and hated leftovers. so she'd make a pound of pasta with 2 pounds of burger and a huge jar of ragu and split it 4 ways and you ate what was in front of you. when my sister left for college she split it 3 ways..lol.
but our "dessert" was fruit...daddy was a produce man..the top of the top for a large east coast grocery chain, so he brought home fruit and veg every night. i still remember taking kiwis and mangoes to school...and having them for show and tell because noone had ever seen them before. and you couldnt get strawberries in the winter, only in late may early june. Blueberries were only june. he would bring home a huge flat and we froze them. apples were soft and yucky except in fall..and one day he brought home this odd green apple..a crate of them. he called them Granny Smith apples, and they were from australia. very expensive and noone had ever heard of them. i ate 10 of them...and was up sick all night haha.
but we ate what was in season...and the only time we had sweet desserts or any thing was holidays or birthdays, or on vacation.
i was the same with my kids..determined they were not going to grow up fat..and they didnt. all were slim the third is my clone and just built big..but when they left home they all got large. my daughter struggles with it. middle son could care less...he likes food so he eats. youngest is who told me about keto. hes pretty close to goal. but he isnt at all strict and goes on and off all the time.

KD the red lobster cheese biscuits are the ones i do..i think the recipe is called red lobster "cheddar bay" biscuits if i'm not mistaken. they are really good.

if you use my waffle recipe with the cream cheese you dont have to wait for them to crisp up..they do it in the iron. they come out soft and fluffy inside and crisp outside. and less carbs as you use cream cheese instead of mozz or cheddar or muenster or whatever. i prefer them...though i love cheese i want them to taste as close to bread as i can get, and while they arent exact they are closer!! and my recipe makes 6 to 8 of the little ones in the dash...i dont have one but a friend tried them and said she got 8...which makes them about a quarter carb a piece. while the cheddar chaffles are about one...either way they are both plenty low enough!!

Good afternoon all - my house is finally empty again!!

DB and SIL and DS all stayed over last night. DB and SIL brought so much food with them I did not even make the biscuits. But I will soon. They look best to be eaten right away, with lots of butter slathered on them. My SIL is keto and said she's made the "Red Lobster" keto cheddar biscuits and they turned out great, so looking forward to that next.

Read hope you are back in the saddle and glad your car didn't suffer more damage than it did.

Kathleen a BLT sounds good. I think just gripping something bread like in your hand is good every once in awhile. And the recipe - 1/2 cup shredded cheese, 1 egg is so simple. If you want it crispier (JC) put a little cheese on the bottom, add your chaffle mix, a little sprinkle more on top and cook until you like the way it looks. One thing about the Chaffle - it should sit for a minute or more before you eat it. It "sets" that way, and is much easier to handle.

Urban we have all of San Antonio to draw from - there are about 40 libraries here? We can look up a book online, and then have it delivered to our local branch. And I've checked out a lot of cookbooks that way. Also, we can have library books delivered to Kindle through a free service. I know some don't like ebooks, but I like both. Hope your rain continues and the fires do start subsiding, and glad DH is feeling better!!

Also - I made the cheeseburger soup in the crock pot. I do not recommend this. The GB was way too soft. I much prefer the stove version. (my mistake not Holly's). Flavor still excellent just weird texture.

Lib you keep going!! Way to go to drag DH with you. Hope everything continues as it's been going.

Holly CA I lost a lot of weight once when I lost my sense of smell. Not that it's good, but silver lining and all!! Hope you return to normal soon.

Sheets, rugs, floors. It's been wet and muddy here. Doggie paws all over the floors. Have a good day everyone!

HOLLY CALI - What a fun Grandma you are! That was a terrific idea making that tunnel. So cute at that age. I remember me & my brother as kids having so much fun in a refrigerator box left outside. The good old day!

LIBI You guys are doing great! emoticon

HOLLY NIGHT - You just told the story of my life. My life was filled with food pushers from both sides of the family from a young age!!
I never did that to my two children. From an early age If they weren't hungry I would never force them to eat or make then clean their plate. I was concerned and asked their doctor and he told me, "when they are hungry they will eat." So that was the rule I followed. And he was right. I never had a house filled with sweets or junk foods either. So early on they had a good "relationship " ( not sure what word i want but) with food growing up. Neither of them has even been overweight or struggled with weight ( they are average weight) and they don't view foods as good or bad. Surprisingly all three grand children are the same! Average weight.
Always having been somewhat overweight and at war with my irrational "good vs bad" food choices- I feel like I did right by them in that respect. Just a little thing but so glad they didn't need to stress over weight issues.. At least I did that right! LOL

HOLLY CALI - Yes I think when you can smell foods ( like when we have a cold) you really don't eat much. It will come back.

READ- Yes frustrated about the loss of taste and smell. I could barely smell the soup even with my head as close to the pot as possible. I made 8 servings for the freezer. I tasted the broth and my tongue told me it was spicy!!!! That's all I know. I think my Kale and Cauliflower must have been excessive (not wanting to waste anything) when I entered what I had done in the recipe calculator...The calories were a little bit higher ... and the carbs were 15 per my serving, damn veges. Honestly if I plan my menu for the day and calculate correctly it will be a nice meal saving my carbs for this. And Veg carbs I can live with and be happy! Thank you again.

Yesterday I had my grandson for the day. 11 months old today. I was afraid he would be bored with me as he is in day care now with lots of activity. So I ran to Home Depot, they have the best moving boxes! Spent $5 on three boxes. Came home taped them together with yellow/black caution tape- made a tunnel fort and one stand alone box to hide toys. I made holes at the entrance and hung bells on ribbon. Laid blankets and teddy bears in the tunnel fort and he loved it!!!! We played all day. (Yes I went through it too) Money well spent! I was exhausted! he is like the energizer bunny and does NOT stop. I have him again tomorrow and Thursday, then he goes back to regular day care. Proud of myself, sent pictures of him crawling through the tunnel fort with a huge smile on his face to his Mom and Dad.

Have a great day all!

Good morning everyone. I had so much energy yesterday. I felt good until evening. So, I'm halfway there, right?

I found a recipe for Bullet Proof Hot Chocolate and that is delish! And easy to make.

I've found putting all my food in the tracker in the morning lets me tweak what I need to. I'm spot on today. Perfect macros. Easy to make everything. Husband loves the food. I mean, literally loves it.

We can do this! I did take measurements last night because I know that the weight loss was just water and I know I may not lose for while now, but I might lose inches instead.

Have a great day, everyone!

my mom is so much better about my eating keto than she was. shes a food pusher...probably the worst one i know. before her husband is half through his meal shes going you want more? what can i get you? and she does it with EVERYONE. my ex sig other was taught it was polite to accept the food if someone offered it, so he would say yes, then walk away sick to his stomach...i tried talking to her about it, she got mad, said all he has to say is no!!! but you say no, she continues.
so i'm very grateful that she has reined herself in with me. i had a long talk with her, when she realized i was doing something different. i said let me get my own food (she insists on serving people..HUGE plates of food) and please dont ask if i want more, or anything. for the most part she does that..but now its..do you want a salad. dont you want more salad. surely you want more meat. this time she cooked me 2 HUGE burgers. i ate one, pushed the other around, then finally cut it up small got up got a container and put it in. wait she says..one burger and nothing else is NOT enough for you!! and i know when you are cutting things up for Lucy!!! i explained yet again that that much food is just too much protein, etc, that i was fine. to her a meal isnt a meal unless its got plenty of bread, pasta, rice, etc, AND a salad, AND a cooked veg, AND a meat, AND dessert.
but like i said shes way better. i dont use my usual "you never said a word when i was stuffing down carbs and big desserts" not quite ready to hurt her feelings and probably never will be. but progress is progress!

emoticon READ 22 years is a long time. Next year you will be able to enjoy the snow, ice from indoors, unless of course you are a ST that day, hope not! Pray your stiffness doesn’t last long. How about a nice hot bubble bath with a rubber ducky theme song? Speaking of recipes where is the Zuppa soup I’ve read about in a few posts? No need for you to look it up, just wanted to know where it is posted either on this site or someplace else? The Dash waffle is so small I can see how it is easy to forget about it after the newness wears off.

KATHLEEN You cracked me up with your laugh! Big thanks for the BLT idea. I will def try that w little red Dash.

NIGHT I bought my red egg cooker unexpectedly. I walked right by it in the store, the only style available. I havent used all the features. I think buying the smaller one would have been adequate for me but I am kind of partial to red and yes it is nice to have something new that brings a smile. I don’t buy things for myself very often but it was a Christmas present so I splurged the $25.

URBAN glad to hear you also have a regional library system. I imagine most people do, it has been around for such a long time now. Good to hear about rain bombs. From firefighters or weather?

KD I just made a few extra eggs and will look for a good deviled egg recipe. I also had the cheeseburger soup this week! Never thought of biscuits, sounds delicious. Looks like you are cooking up a storm in your house so you do not need one outside SA! JC

Hello team! Thanks for all the well wishes! Honestly it could have been so much worse! I was on flat land (there are two huge gullies between me and work-no phone reception and steep and rugged), I didn't hit anything (no oncoming traffic, just missed a pole), didn't roll it (it's a steep ditch) and aside from being pretty stiff, I'm fine. I did go to the chiropractor, which really helped, and will go back Thursday. The back tires ended up being repairable. So all in all, one lucky girl. I've been driving this route for 22 years and this is the first time I lost control, so lucky in that also.

Urban, believe me, my heart was in my throat also! It happened so fast, yet seemed like it was slow motion. I felt it when I lost traction. I'm so glad that DH is even a little better! And I too will continue to pray for rain. What a tragedy these fires have been, as you have seen firsthand.

Brad, you are doing so great on your keto journey! Keep it up!

Night so glad that you are safe, the tree is still standing, and that you are home. I did giggle at your mom's comment. My mom is the same way-she can't believe that this is a healthy way of eating!

KD, I'd love to hear how the keto biscuits turned out. Is that recipe in the recipe area here on the team page. If I could make those for my DH, I might convince him that keto could work for him also.

HollyCA, the lack of taste must be driving you nuts!! Freezing the soup is a good idea.

Kathleen, your area of the world sounds fabulous!! Years ago, driving through Pennsylvania, I loved seeing all the historic homes and quaint towns. My SIL lives in Maryland, roughly halfway between D.C. and Baltimore, so we have been there several times. Went to Intercourse (I think that was the name) one time. Haha got my pic taken standing by the sign.

JC, I love my Dash waffle maker, but I forget about it. I need to make some chaffles.

Well, the wind is howling and I heard the plows go by, so I better get in gear and allow plenty of time to get to school. Have a great day, dear team!

Good Tuesday morning Forum,

Urban, glad to see you and your keto family are doing well with your goals. Your meal sounds delicious... glad you have that support. It sounds like hubby has come to terms with the seriousness of his health dilemma. Hope he continues to follow doctors' orders. You both have my sympathies. ;-) And thanks for the fire updates, prayers still coming your way.

NIGHT, it sounds like you're having an adventure on this trip. I had to do a lot of traveling for work, but now that I've left that position I've found great peace at being home every evening. I suppose I'm a homebody. Anyway, enjoy your time with family... great job on meeting the challenges of keto away from home.

It's early here but wanted to pop in and wish everyone well... Have a strong day people!

James. I appreciate your 'reminders'. It helps keep me on track. I can rein in any movements in the wrong direction when I see your reminders. Thank you. I am also always ready to read your health story and improvements on Keto. You are right, Keto is a satisfying way of eating. I never feel those hunger cravings after each meal anymore like I did eating carbs.

Read, Hi! I hope you and DGD had a great day but how scary to have wound up in a ditch. I hope you are really OK and your car is going to be too. My heart was in my mouth reading about the accident.

KD, saying Hi to you as well. We tried zucchini noodles friend in butter and a bit of garlic last night with fried chicken in almond/coconut flour and seasonings. Yummo. I'd love to know how your Keto biscuits turn out.

Fin - your story is also inspirational. I'm glad you found Keto!

Libilou, I suspect you are in the Keto flu stage. It passes. Keep going! Instead of MCT oil, I add butter to many things. And cream. I add oils to my salads sometimes, but butter is my go-to. I also like good mayonnaise with my eggs and salads. I have never ever taken a tablespoon of pink salt all at once, but I do salt things with it. If you aren't hungry, then it's OK not to eat, as long as you eat enough during your eating window.

Night, I am glad your Internet was back on and you could chime in here. The ice storm sounds pretty extreme. SO sorry about your 200yo tree! I would feel the same about not being able to take it down...Lol about how your Mom reacted to your Keto meal!!

JC, we have a similar regional system. I just have not been a member of y local library the past few years as we have often been traveling on the road, so I kind of forgot I have that resource. I'm happy about the cookbook being in the local library too! You are most welcome for my health benefit story. Congratulations on buying a Dash waffle maker. Lol about your need for a red cape!

Brad, wow, lots of steps! I never make it that high anymore. Lol!

DH is feeling marginally better today. He was tired more than utterly exhausted. I wrestled all the 'work' away from him and he had a restful day. Archie is on a course of tablets for a stomach upset so is bound to feel better in the morning. (I must not have saved him from all of the kangaroo poo after all!) The Vet isn't too worried about him so we shall see. It was a tiny bit cooler today and I also saw on the news that the areas with fires that have been burning for the past 3 1/2 months have been getting rain bombs! All the fires aren't put out yet (the area is too great) but we're hoping the rains will keep coming. Then everyone just has to deal with the aftermath of such devastation.

Take care, all.

Susan

Just to comment on NIGHTSKYSTAR's mom's comment:
"HOW did you lose all that weight eating that!!!"

The point of eating is not to eat the most weight of food. 9 calories in a gram of fat, 4 calories in a gram of carbs. So eating fat will just pack the calories in ... so eat carbs which have fewer calories for the same weight of food.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!!! While it is true that carbs have fewer calories per gram, what is wrong is that the goal is not to eat the most weight of food. The goal is to eat what your body needs, and not be hungry most of the time. Fat and some protein do both of those far better than carbs do. In fact I don't know what carbs themselves do except provide calories.

Hi Hollycali..the taste thing has to be frustrating! Hope you get it back soon!

Brad great job with the planning and the steps!! You are doing fantastic!!

So I’ve been at my moms for 5 days. Did all the cooking (so much fun for me!!) out to dinner for my stepdads birthday—that was the steak, salad and Brussels sprouts. I feel like I eat way more there, so when I went to take a shower before I got on the scale..normally I weigh once a week in the morning. I was down 3 pounds! Go figure..proves yet again that if I eat to TDEE I lose better.
Unfortunately being here alone and only cooking pretty plain meat, I tend to go under—around 1800 cals.
Even after 3 years it’s still amazing to me.
Had to laugh..I stay in one of their rental cottages when I’m there. I took a package of bacon and butter and eggs. I was just about done cooking when Ma came over. There my plate of bacon and scrambled eggs and butter, and a small piece of keto toast all of it dripping in fat. HOW she says. HOW did you lose all that weight eating that!!!

Just finished catching up on everyone's posts... READ, I can't think of a more helpless feeling than spinning out on ice in a vehicle. So pleased that you're home and safe...

Kathleen, be careful with that little red cape on your way to grandmother's house... From what I hear "carbs" are often hiding in the woods. ;-) Enjoy your appliances, it sounds like you're getting quite a bit of use out of them. Kudos~

Posting this evening after another successful day of keto planning and follow-through. Normally at work I'm behind a desk all day. We've got several guys out with the flu and I volunteered to do some runs with one of our young guys, by 2 pm I logged 17K in steps. Poor Colton had to do most of the heavier lifting, but I did a pretty good job at keeping up with him. Not sure if he was just being nice but he said he'd work with me any day. He's also a keto fan, so we had lots to gab about...

Thanks again everyone for your support and all the valuable information... I've belonged to several Spark Teams but this one is unique and truly special. Wishing each of you continued good health. Cheers~

READ- How scary!!!!!!!!!!! oh my goodness so glad you were not hurt. I made your Zuppa Toscana Soup to day. I'm really annoyed I cant even smell it!!!!! When will my sense of smell and taste come back!!!!!!!??????? Might just have to pour in containers and freeze for another day. Weird I can taste coffee.... or maybe that's because I remember how it tastes. My mind is messing me up. The soup "Looks" delicious. I tweaked it a bit and added diced up Pancheta. My Kale and Cauliflower when chopped up was more like 6 cups each. Oh well, didn't want to waste any of it. Its all in. Looks hearty and filling. Thank you again for sharing.

emoticon NIGHT glad you are home safe, with power and no mishaps on those icy roads and I’m glad you have yak trax!

READ So sorry about your skidding mishap today. I know how scary that is. Sorry you need three tires but so relieved to hear you are not hurt physically.

URBAN We have a regional system so that I can borrow books from multiple locations and have them delivered to my town library. I like to look at cookbooks before I buy them because if there are only a few recipes that I would actually make then I can copy down what I need. I am so happy to hear that your library has the book you actually want! It is not always that easy!

LIBILOU I love salt and freely salt my food. I still have a hard time getting all the macros where they need to be. Fat bomb recipes might help. I’ve been eating more cream cheese for fat and calories. I like it plain or sprinkle with Trader Joes Everything but the Bagel Seasoning.

HICIM Heidi Stay Keto and keep in touch with that Seamstress!

WINTERSDREAM Thank you for adding to the discussion regarding the eggs! I am no longer having a problem but love to hear about different tried and true methods.

BRAD, JAMES, URBAN Love the discussion about inflammation. How many times have I read posts on this Team that it is not just about the weight loss but about the health benefits. I think about that statement every day. And Brad please don’t kick yourself. There is a season for everything. This is your season for Keto.

IWANT small victories are still victories. Keep on keepin on!

KD Thanks for your encouraging words this morning about perseverance !

FIIN I’m impressed with your storm and safety preparedness!

Now for my BIG announcement! Are you sitting down??? I am now the proud owner of a Dash mini waffle maker!! When we had the Chaffle discussion awhile back, I was the one who already owned a nice Cuisinart waffle maker so figured I should use it for Chaffles, right? Well after getting my Dash egg cooker and loving it so much I just had to try the small four inch $10 Dash for chaffles. I want to thank all of you who rated it so highly in our discussions. I can hold it in my hand! My other one is heavy and hard to get out of the cabinet so I haven’t used it in months. My first time using the new Dash was this morning and they were delicious. I might try leaving them in a little longer next time to see if I can crisp without burn. I will be on the look out for must have recipes using my newest toy. I’m so happy with my little red egg cooker and now my little red waffle maker all I need now is a little red cape to wear while I’m cooking! JC

Read so glad you are safe! Cars can always be fixed (or traded in for another) but that's scary to go through an accident anyways.

Night glad you are doing okay as well. Fingers crossed for less ice and more snow? Or at least non-icy cold for you.

If there were ice on the roads here in SA the city would shut down. No one knows how to drive in weather at all.

Cheeseburger soup for dinner, 2 dozen (half) deviled eggs, zucchini and I am going to try my hand at keto biscuits. Have not yet tried them... will report tomorrow.

Oh Read i'm so glad you are ok and all the things that could have happened didnt!!

Brad...i had to laugh..i have said a billion times..if i only knew about keto when i was a fat 18...i wouldnt have gone through the majority of my life over 300 pounds!! but hey just happy i was led to it (by my son) and was able to be successful.

everyone..i'd do personals but i'm just getting home...while they said the storm wasnt as bad as predicted, its pretty awful here. i love..LOVE snow, and cold. i do NOT love ice. my road (i live in a rural agricultural community..there are probably a total of 10-15 houses on my 10 mile road) is one of the last taken care of on the town of malone side..my part is town of bangor and they do a great job with the roads. anyhow..there are ice laden trees on the malone side totally bent over IN the road..you have to go slow and snake around them. why they dont either spray with warm water or cut the ones in the road down i dont know. but i have power, i'm home safe, my big maple in front didnt come down (its ancient..at least 200 years old..and i cant bear to take it down..i dont climb and do treework any more so i'm waiting for a friend to come up when hes home and do it..hes in viet nam where he lives doing missionary work but has told me he will come do it when hes home next)
so i'm blessed. power. heat. no major damage. grateful!!!

Subject: The Zen of bad carbs

Eating Keto is about getting healthy. Weight loss is one part of that. But like FIINALEE and myself have discovered, conditions that you took as just part of your existence, like chronic inflammation, or high blood sugar, or hunger not long after eating a decent meal, are not necessarily "just how things are".

Eating Keto won't cure high blood sugar, or other conditions, but it sure won't exasperate them like carbs do. Its not that carbs are evil, but ...

This reminds me of the Zen of boxing. Years ago, in martial arts we had a guest Korean boxing instructor. I asked him about the best way to deliver a strike. His answer was that there was no best way ... I was disappointed. I wanted to know the best way, and the master wouldn't tell me, even though I'd asked him straight out.

Then after a brief pause he said, ... but if you want to know how to deliver a blow with the most impact, for the least effort, ... that I can tell you, I don't put a judgement on it, there is no "best" way.

That is sort of how I feel about carbs. They aren't evil. But If you want how to get the most nutrition for the least useless calories, ... that I can tell you, eat Keto.

The law of averages caught up with me today. Hit a slick spot, spun around, and went in a deep ditch. Thank goodness I'm fine. I didn't hit a signpost that was right there. The car needs two, possibly three new tires. It could have been so much worse. Very scary though.

Good morning all. I felt really unwell yesterday. I ate what I needed to, just felt blah and achy. I'm thinking I'm low on salt. I never salt anything I eat and I only use very small amounts to cook with. I am doing electrolytes, but I don't think they're enough. Today for lunch I have 2 boiled eggs and a tablespoon of Himalayan Pink Salt.

We've also taken to eating between 11am and 8pm. I can't eat after 8pm, no matter what, because of a med I take. And we've found that neither of us are hungry until 11. So, I think our bodies want to fast during that time. Any comments or better ideas?

I'm also finding I'm having a hard time making my fat requirements. I'm adding MCT oil at least once daily to help with that. Does everyone else have to do that?

I hope everyone has a great week. I love this energy. I love that I'm now "hot" instead of always cold. That tells me my metabolism is heading the right way.

Oh, I lost 9 pounds total this week, 12 overall. I know those 9 pounds are probably water, but I must say, it's still an encouragement. I'd like to lose 1-2 pounds per week. That's safe and doable.

Good Snowy~~~ Football winning Morning!!! In football I enjoy the athleticism. Except for Packers-- even if they play badly I still woot woot for them. Russel Wilson is one of my favorite Quarterbacks (he played here at UW Madison) and to watch him put his body at risk & not trust his team was very painful. A Team is many players, not just one. But, if he hadn't done IT their score would have been less.

Snow was many inches this morning. Breathe in . . breathe out!!! I was able to get my electric snowblower operating but it kept unplugging. I better watch YouTube to see how the cords should be connected. DUH!!! Learn fasther Grasshopper. It took me over an hour. I didn't want to use my MONSTER due to the 7:00 am for noise restriction. I did say Good Morning to all the Construction workers that are adding on to our Parochial school. Most of them smoke. DUH!!! It's not windy today so they will be safer on those steel girders.

I taught a circuit class this morning and didn't take my fan to the pool deck and only had 2Tbs of cream in my coffee. I had to struggle to stay on my feet, focus and not pass out. That's my life's journey so I'm pretty versed on what happens. The roads were bad, the school buses were late, and I only had 5 minutes to set up so I didn't bring in my fan. My refresher course tells me--- fan first --- equipment, mic--music last. Learn faster Grasshopper.

I'm resting now enjoying more cream/coffee. I will go back in an hour to teach a Breathing, slow movement aiChai class. They are in the warm water. (Lucky them!) Then I return to teach a warm water Arthritis class & get to enjoy the warm water with the class. YYYYiiiippppeeeee!!!! Before I go back to the club I'll enjoy one of the cheese 'crackers'. They save my life.

James tells it true!! Leaving my house for fear of bowel explosion ruled my life. (And I'm a fitness instructor!!) Two weeks after throwing out all Wheat & Refined Sugar & preservatives--I was able to join the Community again in Safety. Whewwwww!!! I'm also OFF of the Zrtec for allergies and I can be around dogs again w/o the meds. (I don't know about cats yet.) I use turmeric for inflammation and sometimes cinnamon capsules if my activity level makes my joints, tendons, muscles SING!!! YinYoga is my go-to for tightness, soreness and flexibility. Sometimes~~~~ maybe tonight ~~~ I'll take a Tylenol product. Depends--- I'm a gel pak--- foam roller -- myofascia roller person. Once I do whatever I think will help-- I wait an hour -- thenif needed take the Tylenol. Last one I took was the root canal in June.

Please keep posting your Keto Journey!! Ask for information and we can repeat as many times as it takes. YYYYiiiippppeeee!!! Life is Great!!! I am a very lucky Woman!! Breathe in . . . breathe out!!!

Good morning team - I agree with everyone that the road is bumpy and you will make mistakes. Just learn from them, and persevere. Even when you think you are 100% keto, you might make a mistake and not even know about it (going out, etc.).

Keep your focus on doing the best you can every time you eat. Don't eat between meals. Let your meals be determined by your appetite. In other words - don't overeat. Or undereat.

If life happens (wedding venue tasting) do the best you can.

Have a wonderful day everyone!! At work with not much time today.

Charlene,

READTEACH1 already said it ... "Don't sell yourself short".

You wrote:
" ….small victories here and there, but not true success!"
Each day, each meal can be a small success.

To quote Sun Tzu, an ancient Chinese army general from 2600 years ago:
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles."

He certainly didn't win any war in one big battle ... it was a many small ones, and you can bet he didn't win every single battle.

Good morning! It did snow, maybe a couple of inches. I will get going earlier today. I need to get DGD up and moving anyway, and want to allow plenty of time for DH to get her to school. So while I have read all your posts, I'll keep this brief.

Charlene, I just want to say that coming back to us and trying to follow a way of eating that is healthy for you is a huge success! Don't sell yourself short. I know James and Night say this all the time, but each one of us is different, and will lose differently, and notice different benefits, and have different difficulties. But what we have in common is what binds us together. And you know we are all here for you, through thick and thin lol. An unintentional pun!

Make it a good day all!

Subject: Keto and inflammation issues

I've said this before, but I'll sort of say it again.

This should be an inspiration for anyone who takes medication for chronic inflammation issues, or other chronic digestive issues.

I had ulcerative colitis. Perhaps its an auto-immune disease, and as such you'd think there isn't much you can do. Your body just has chronic problems with itself. You ae unlucky. What I discovered is that eating carbs exasperated that condition, and not eating carbs gave my body a chance to heal. My body was no longer battling inflammation from carbs, and its own potential other problems.

If you don't think I had it bad, consider this ... at one point my digestion was so bad that I was loosing about 3 pounds a week and I wasn't on a weight loss plan. Running to the toilet with about 2 minutes of warning. I was slightly overweight, perhaps 20 pounds, and as those pounds went away, and kept on going away I suddenly realized that if this didn't stop I was going to die.

My "upper" brain had me plot a graph. Axis upwards was my weight, and a time axis along bottom side. The dashed horizontal line was my death weight, which I estimated at about 90 pounds. In my estimation I had about 6 months to live, not a full year.

I survived that with anti-inflammatories and steroids. But the disease continued to simmer for decades, until I started eating Keto. Stopping those anti-inflammatories, and healing my gut was not part of my Keto plan, I was just thinking about cutting the carbs. I just noticed after about 3 months of Keto, ... hey, my digestion is better. What will happen if I stop those anti-inflammatories, maybe I don't need them. I stopped.

I've not had a problem with ulcerative colitis since starting to eat Keto. I did go see my gastroenterologist in November, first time in about 7 years. 7 years of no anti-inflammatories, and I have to say, as much as I was trusting Keto, I was and idiot for not going more regularly. What did the exam reveal? No inflammation, and no polyps as there had been on other previous exams. No treatment. Just have the exam again in 2 years.

Do I still "have" ulcerative colitis? I don't know. But I don't have any symptoms.

HICIM705,
I guess I have some general advice for just about everyone eating Keto, so this note isn't just for you.

At the start of Keto it is certainly worth tracking, and weighing, and counting. Folks who come from an average of about 225 to 300 grams of carbs a day need to make big changes. Some things are obvious. Cut the chocolate bars out ..., some less obvious, like carrots.

Once you know roughly what foods are higher in carbs, (that 8% list is pretty eye opening). And once you what a Keto sized portion of protein is (like a small steak, 6 ounces, not 18, or a small portion of fish) things flow pretty well.

I've not tracked for quite a while, but I know what vegetables and things should even make it into the house. Breakfast today was 2 eggs and 3 cups of coffee with heavy cream. Boringly predictable for me. I didn't weigh the cream in my coffee, though I have a digital scale to do so.

I eyeball my portions. So its more like a taste of a few things, not heaping amounts. Supper today was 2 chicken legs (with skin of course), a small salad with some ranch dressing, and afterwards for "dessert" four pieces of cheese, cheddar and brie. Not huge chunks of cheese, but a taste.

So my general advice:
- eat three meals a day
- don't snack unless you are feeling low energy, but not because it is mid-afternoon snack time.
- don't snack after supper.
- don't have supper too late (in other words a daily feeding window of perhaps 9 or 10 hours)

Ruth Ann, welcome! It's nice that you wrote a little about yourself for us. Thanks for your tips about making eggs easy to peel. So many of us have tried different things to get them to peel easily. I also am aware that the tough membrane is actually pure Collagen which is good for us, but I have never figured out a way to peel eggs and leave the membrane on! I live in Australia and have been doing Keto since January 2019. I'm nine years older than you and lose weight slowly, but feel so much better for following this way of life (woe). My total loss is 10kgs (22lbs?) so far, so definitely not an average of even a pound a week. I'm married (DH has pneumonia and I am trying to keep him from doing things. It's a struggle!) I have a young dog named Archie. He is a Bichon Frese crossed with Maltese and Poodle. We like to travel in our caravan and are currently on the road but we hope to return home for a proper rest for DH before too many days.

Brad, sorry for the loss of your co-worker's mother. The service sounded as though it was beautiful. We lost a good friend yesterday and will need to attend his funeral if we get back home in time. He was 87 and knew he was dying, and we will miss him. Your crock pot dish sounds delicious. Yes, rein pulling is happening for my DH today. He's impossible - he was up befor me, doing the washing, then when I said I would go bring it in (we hang our washing outside on lines in Australia) he was going to rush in before me!! I accused him of having an inability to take hands off a project he starts. Lol! Then he re-made the bed with fresh sheets while I was bringing in the washing. See what I mean? He let me make him some lunch just now and is having a nap. Winning at last. Thank you for your sympathy about the fires over here. They really are horrendous. And they are still burning...though some areas are beginning to finally get some rain which is a true blessing. I do hope the tornado watch is over for you? And I am cheering over here that you have already had some relief from gout pain! My own arthritic pain is greatly reduced. I don't know if I will ever get rid of all pain, but it is so much lower I can ignore it and definitely don't need pain killers much at all anymore. There has only been about one flare up of hip pain since I started eating Keto. That's a huge success for me.

Libilou, congratulations on your weight change. Remember weight loss is usually more rapid in the beginning due to water shedding from the inflammation in your body from carbs. James described it beautifully. That's wonderful that you could sleep more easily already.

James, thank you. I so agree that DH must rest. He is one who loves to use whatever energy gets sent his way, instead of allowing it to heal him and resting a bit more to make sure he gets well.

Jen, congratulation on your weight shed too! I;m glad yu have noticed so many good benefits form eating Keto already. Lol about the Pepsi. Sugar is really so, so (too) sweet for me too now.

Night, lol! If I sat on DH I would break him, even though I weigh less than I did! He has severe osteoporosis. But I will sit on him figuratively and use short words. Lol! Stay safe and warm in that ice storm. Yes, I would also be skinny if I could rely on CICO. I underate most of my life, except when I binged on chocolate.

JC, now why didn't I think of looking at the library for Carolyn Kethcum recipe books?Duh! I just checked and they have one! They have the one Night picked out as most desirable!! Thank you for the idea. And thank you for praying for DH and I. I appreciate that.

Read, you sure do know how to dress for the cold. Glad you had a good memorial day for your friend. Sounds like you are going to have a lovely family time. Yes, DH is a problem when it comes to resting himself to recover.

Fin, your hose sounds so very interesting. Maybe you could open it up for a few hours a week and charge people to go through! (I wrote this before I read Kathleen's suggestion! Great minds! Lol!) Glad you take precautions on the ice. How kind of you to get rid of snow and ice for your neighbour.

Kathleen, I agree, taking your measurements every month is a good way to show progress once weight loss slows down. Yes, it was confronting to go out to my niece's burnt property. They had only lived in to 6 months and had done heaps of renovating that was just licked up by the fires. Everywhere around them is burnt, even on the hills in the distance. Thank you also for your prayers for Australia. It's still very hot here and today it is humid as well. I am praying for the monsoonal trough to fire up....
I do love the sound of your Historic Homes Tour.

KD, I agree also, taking pictures is a must! I found a year old one of me the other day and could definitely see a difference and the photo was just of my face! Yes, it really must be the money loss that dives the vilification of the Keto woe by mainstream.

Charlene, so glad you are working on getting back to eating a Keto woe. Keep going! We'll be here to cheer you on!

Good Evening, Team! Wanted to stop in and say 'hi' on this Sunday evening. We had a beautiful weekend here in western NJ - temps were in the 50's/60's (quite warm for a mid-January weekend). I went out for a walk around town yesterday and today. It was great getting out in the fresh air and today, we even had some bright sunshine.

Brad (911BRAD) ~ How are you today? Hope that the weather in your area wasn't too bad. It was so nice of you to travel to the funeral of your co-worker's mother to offer your support. Your 'throw-together' crockpot meal sounds wonderful. Sounds like you are doing well on Keto.

Jen (RPOOHBEAR35) ~ How are you today? WOW - down 21 lbs. in 4 weeks? That is awesome ... I'm starting slow and moving slow, but slow & steady wins the race, too - right? I'm impressed: Keto and quitting smoking? That is awesome. If you like to walk, there is a new group here that started this year (on January 1st). It is called 'Go the Distance in 2020'. It requires you to log in your FitBit (or other device) steps/miles ~ but log when you have a chance. If you want information or an invitation, let me know. Congrats on your loss this morning, but even more importantly - congrats on the way you are feeling and your renewed energy level. My drink of choice is unsweetened seltzer - a few bubbles and nothing else.

FINALEE ~ How are you today? Seems like you and NIGHT are the two people that seem to LOVE snow. Although, I would imagine that the ice is a part of winter that you could do without. My favorite months are Spring and Fall, in that order - even though, we don't get that much of a Spring anymore so it seems like my favorite season may be Fall. I agree with you, if I don't get around to answering everyone, I read each post and find benefit in each and every one of them. We don't do Football at our house at all, DH doesn't care for it that much and neither do I ~ I'm kind of happy that he doesn't like Football. We are one family that usually doesn't do a think on Superbowl Sunday ... yet - some of my best friends are Football lovers ~ you and I would probably get along in RL, too!

Kathleen (KATHLEEN624) - How are you today? I see in your signature that you live in PA. Where do you live - we may be 'neighbors'. I'm in the Western part of NJ - relatively close to the Crayola Factory. I like your smashed egg/butter breakfast. I'm really happy that you like the 'Go the Distance in 2020' group. I'm enjoying it, too. Where exactly do you live in PA? Sounds like a great area with a lot of history.

Earnie (MAUTIN) - How are you today?

Karen (KDGIRL) - How are you today? What play did you see the other night with your GF, if I might ask. One of my favorite things is to go to the theatre ... I love live theatre - musicals are my favorite, however. Musical Theatre is a love that I share with my DD. I see that you sew - sounds like you are altering (or adding on to) a wedding dress?

Holly (NIGHTSKYSTAR) - How are you today? Seems like I'm not much of a chatter on SP anymore, but I love the energy of this team and will strive to check in here as often as I can. I love the support that you all provide - especially you and James. With my job and my long commute, chatting daily is not really an option anymore, so - if I'm MIA for a few days, know that I'm lurking/reading/learning and hope to chat as often as I can. I know that chatting is one of the things that truly connect you to a team. Thanks for the encouragement on my meal the other day - not perfect, but. . .I'm going to have to look up/try some of your recipes (bagels) to see how they taste. Sorry to hear about your ice storm this morning, hope that it has stopped by now. I believe your words that CICO doesn't work ~ yet, for me - I wonder. If I ever really get into Ketosis, I WILL test what you say as I really do trust yours and James' advice.

Holly (HOLLYBARKER1) - How are you today? I'll be married for 30 years this year and I keep telling my husband that if something should happen and I have to live alone, I would embrace it ~ mostly for the reasons that you mentioned: meal prep, keeping the house tidier ... but I would ABSOLUTELY miss him! Hahahahahahaha.

Susan (URBANLOTUS) - How are you today? I'm thinking about you and your DH and hope that the road to recovery for him is not a very long one.

WINTERSDREAM - How are you today? Welcome to the team!!! This is a wonderful and very supportive group, so please enjoy. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your doctor will let you go back to work ... if DH and I had to be that close all the time, he would be in my way as well!

LIBILOU - How are you today? Nice to meet you! Down 12 lbs? You are an inspiration, seems like the 'keto-lifestyle' suits you well.

___JC___ - How are you today? YUP! I'm pretty lucky - DD's future MIL and I get along. Actually, the funny thing is that when DD was in grammar school, her future MIL's older son (DD's fiance'was already in HS, but his brother was still in the same school as DD ~ it was a K-8 school and her future brother-in-law was in 6th or 7th grade at that time. I worked behind-the-scenes for the school musical and her future MIL did props for the show. So - she and I had worked together well before our kids met I can only hope that Keto will help me to need dress alterations before the wedding!

READTEACH1 - How are you today? I lost a 'second Mom' and we buried her the first Friday in January. She was 90, but had spunk until the end. Sounds like she had a similar personality to your friend. I know that the support you showed your friends family was much appreciated ... they don't even have to say it, you just know that it is. I'm sorry for your loss. Birthday dinner for my DD's future MIL was pretty fun - she's a trainer at the local YMCA and there were 10 of us that celebrated with her. My dinner choice wasn't too bad - thanks for saying I did well, under the circumstances.

James (-JAMES-) - How are you today? I think, depending on who you are, CICO may have a place. My lbs. go away slowly - perhaps if I concentrated on CICO more, any loss might be quicker. I could be wrong, but I have been thinking about that. Even if I'm not watching my calories, I have an incredibly hard time keeping my protein as low as I should and that troubles me more.

I think I'm caught up with all (at least most) of the posts. I'm not doing too bad on my plan, but I'm a little worried about this Thursday evening. DH and I are going with DD and her fiance and his mother to the venue where we are having the wedding. We are doing a tasting of the food so that we can decide on the menu. I have to taste the various foods ~ but I will try not to taste too many side dishes/desserts. We will see how it goes. Wish me luck!

Have a GREAT night, Team Keto - hope to be back soon!

Charlene this is Month 4, on the back surgery for me,, when I came home from the hospital it was a no lifting more than 5 lbs, then 2 months in he uped it to 10 , then the last time I saw him he up'd it to 25 , I go to see him again on the 21st and will see what he has to say, im really ready to get back to work. I love my Hubby really but we are spending way to much time in the presence of each other ,and he is under foot when I am trying to clean or do anything ,

Everyone that is having trouble with eggs, this is what I do , and I raise chickens so I have almost straight from the chicken fresh eggs ,, I boil them with a tablespoon of Baking soda in the water, 15 min, then plunge them in an ice bath and let them sit for an hour or so till they are completely cold, then I peel them under running water,, I think the running water gets under that tough membrane and keeps it separated from the egg, ,,any way try it my way you might find it a lot easier to peel eggs.

Sorry I didn't catch all the comments from every one ,, I will get better at this I promise

James... that's fantastic, congratulations on your healthy turnaround. Looking forward to a brighter future here too. I could kick myself for not switching to this way of eating sooner... ignorance on my part... but better late than never.

Brad,
the anti-inflammatory results for me was that I was on anti-inflammatories for literally decades. A few months into Keto and my ulcerative colitis was headed into remission.

Its now heading on 8 year of that inflammation not needing medication. Food make a huge impact on health.

WINTERSDREAM: hello and welcome.

Sounds like your in the same boat as I was when I had my back surgery last February. I know all about the brace, no bending or twisting – plus I couldn’t lift more than 10 lbs. I was told no housework at all. I loved it – LOL! Unfortunately for me, whole I was recovering from the surgery I let myself throw keto to the wayside. Been trying to get back on track every since…….small victories here and there, but not true success!

I ate 2 boiled eggs with 1.5 slices of bacon, with 2 Tbs butter & 1/3 cup of shredded Romaine. I sat until I finished my meal. Why? I was pretty light headed while shoveling this morning. I wasn't hungry but I need more fat. I have some dill pickles ready for later. I pulled them out of refreg since I can eat them room temps.

Interesting topic James and Night... James, I think your point came across clearly and it was kindly offered. I may be wrong but shooting for a pound or so a week of weight loss even on a Keto plan (or any plan) is probably the healthiest of goals (long term). Rapid loss in the first few weeks is quite common.

Night, I found your comments on high-calorie consumption and maintenance along with a Keto plan to be a game-changer. Can't wait to join you in proving just that...

On this end, I'm just shy of two weeks into keto, and along with some decent weight-loss I haven't had a gout episode. Hopeful to one day get off the meds, isn't it odd that by eating all the foods that are gout no-no's I'm seeing some relief? The anti-inflammatory benefits of this way of eating seem to be working for me. Fingers crossed.

My main point for RPOOHBEAR35 was to tell her that weight loss will slow, from 5 pounds a week to 3, to 2 etc. Life is complicated.

I don't want her to think that it's 5 pounds a week until she reaches her desired weight, ... just eat Keto.

On the other hand, I don't want to be discouraging in any way. She has made a great choice to eat Keto.

proven fact that CICO doesnt work, and that if you eat strict keto you can have a lot more cals than you could ever choke down without gaining. if CiCO worked we would all be skinny...anyhow i would. i ate 900-1200 cals a day for years...and gained. its bull..and it makes me terribly angry. if you dont believe it, once you are in ketosis give it a try. person after person has tried upping their cals to prove wrong the FACT that cals dont matter what you put in your body does. and every. single. one of them has lost or stayed the same, not gained, including eating 5000 cals a day for a month.
while i could never stuff that down..i eat what i feel like. i dont look at cals, and i'm sure mine are too low most days, because i'm not hungry. but if i was, i'd eat. keto food.

FIINALEE & READ- I live in an old historic/antique town in Pennsylvania. Lots of history here and many famous people and celebrities come through and also live here too.
Every few years they have a Historic Home Tour. It is a self guided tour of six residential old/historical homes in the area. They are always decorated and styled to the max. Some have been past celebrity homes, one was photographed for a Hallmark Christmas card, and then some are over the top retro quirky - styled beyond your imagination.

Grey Towers home of Gifford Pinchot ( US Forestry Service) is here. Also Chief Thundercloud
American Indian pictured on the buffalo nickel lived and is buried in my town too.
So much history here. I enjoy it so much.

I would love to see the old homes out where you both are too.

It takes a village - we should all help each other. You are very generous with your time and machine Fiin. Funerals are for the living - I am sure you helped share the grief Brad.

Welcome to the newbies on the team. Keto works and that is the main thing. I listen to tons of podcasts - and people and studies maligning keto. In my opinion - a financial thing. I think to try it doesn't cost any more money than what you normally spend - try it for 3 weeks, see if it helps and if it doesn't - don't worry about it.

The fact that keto is so VILIFIED is the telling story that there are finances involved. No one worries if WW or Jenny Craig or whatever current diet doesn't work. Just try another one. But not keto. That one will kill you. But the evidence is compelling on how effective keto is, and how much healthier people are getting by doing it.

One show I listed to is the LowCarbMD podcast. Two doctors talking to each other, one who has lost 155+ pounds, and one 50+ pounds. They occasionally have guests on with great information. The one doctor said in 20 years of practice he had NEVER taken a diabetic patient off of insulin until low carb/keto. Now he routinely de-prescribes those meds 7 to 8 times a week. That is wonderful.

Another thing for the newbies - TAKE PICTURES!! You will be happy you did! Have a great Sunday everyone!

Good Morning-

I want to add to what JAMES said about high expectations of continual loss of weight every week. I have been Keto for almost 2 years ( Feb is Ketoversary)

Something to think about is taking your measurements before starting Keto. If you forgot to do that .....take them now. Record measurements into the Spark tracker measurements or just make a note of it. Next month take them again. See if you have lost inches, that counts too!! Your body will re arrange itself and adjust as you lose, may not show a lower number on the scale but you will start to look better. That is why you can easily zip your pants and still show the same weight for a few weeks!
There were and are many weeks that I do not lose any weight even though I am following Keto. BUT I have lost so many inches in my body, it is amazing. Give it a try and measure.

MAUTIN - Sorry to mislead you about the egg & butter bowl. It is nothing special- just two hot almost hard eggs smashed with butter. We were all talking about how we hard boil/steam and poach eggs with an electric cooker vs on the stove.

URBAN- Oh no- too much exertion for DH. I hope he rests and gets stronger soon.
Sorry about the house lost in the fires. We pray for Australia every day - such a tragedy.

I don't think about the CICO and just count the daily carbs BUT that is why I walk "officially" every weekday and just keep moving on the weekends. I burn a lot of calories doing that and if it helps in some way then all the better.
I know people who are very thin/look healthy ( wishing I looked like them) and they can't tie their sneakers without gasping for air. SO ....don't forget to get up and walk while you are munching on that mozzarella stick!

Today's weather is FREAKING WEIRD. It is 67+ degrees F today! WHAT??? It should be
down in the 20s and icy not sunny like an Easter Sunday. HOLLY NY I am thinking of turning ion the A/C, hahaha. I should really move to Alaska. hahah

Hello Team~~~ It's SUNDAY!!! YYYiiiipppppeeee!!!

JC-- I have 3 different boot grippers for ice. The heavy duty spikes I carry in my car & use when I have to get through an entire iced area. I also throw in a pair of snow shoes so if there's a problem on the road, I can walk to get help. I have sand, salt, shovel, steel blade on handle, old rugs in the trunk to handle any situation of snow, ice. LOL!! Also some candles, jars, blankets, towels, urinal with funnel, TMI???!!!

Lou, 12# in one week!!! Wowwwzzzaaaa!!!! Amazing!!! Inflammation is leaving your joints. YYYYiiiippppeeeee!!!!!

RPooh, funny~~ & the journey will continue!! Congrats on your loss!!!

Read, I've had people knock on my door to ask to view. LOL!! This is an old farmhouse. It's not fancy, nothing unique., It was built for LOTS of people, Huge kitchen, many rooms, and most everything has been updated but I pick & choose who I let in. I also ask why and I do arm myself for self-protection. One woman came through & said she did summers here in the early 1900's to help her aunts. She didn't see my house, she told me the trunk room was replaced when they put in the bathroom on 2nd floor, my nursery was the sewing room, and I was transfixed with her descriptions. She gave me more than I gave her. Also, I have 3 different sizes of snowblowers. The MONSTER is becoming harder to manage. I'm doing more shoulder, bicep, tricep & pec strengthening now. The smaller one doesn't have an electric starter it broke last year & now my electric snow blower that's the same size as the one w/broken electric starter.

James, good advice re: HUGE weight loss in the beginning. When I visit other sites & read all the HUGE FAST pounds dropping off I breathe in . . . breathe out and meditate on my body, my goal and run back to this TEAM to be reassured.

For everyone else that I didn't mention --= sorry, it's a challenge to get to every single person. I adore each post. I need every single post. The egg discussion has proven very useful. The gum thickener--I use 1/8 tsp when I make a dutch oven size cream veggie soup (my favorite is spinach). I love roasted brussel sprouts & brocolli. Since I purchased that counter oven, that does everything I use the air fryer setting. Yyyuuummmm!!!

Football again this weekend. I'm dealing with my disappointment of all the social events that cancelled this weekend due to weather. My neighbors 2 doors down came to help me move snow this morning. Angels surround us!!! I am a very lucky Woman!!! removed the ice and snow for my neighbor also. I remember what it was like to be a single mother with 3 boys. It's hard and draining. The difference between she & me is that I was out at 4:00 am moving snow so that life could move. LOL!!! emoticon

Hugs to All!! We got to show up and do IT all over again. YYYYiiiipppppeeeee!!!

emoticon BRAD your poignant message of the funeral service was a blessing to read. I bet everyone appreciated that you were there.

NIGHT I hope you keep your power throughout the storm and after! Be careful and thanks for making me crave a hot bagel that I can’t have and with cheese that I can’t have as often as I would like! Just joking. I know your bagel is keto approved and probably one you baked yourself. Also thank you for the book recommendation. I am glad you have some spikes although I really expected you would with all of your ice storms, farm work and Ranger type experience!

LIBILOU Congratulations on all of your success. Keep it going!

JAMES I like your way of being honest, yet very encouraging at the same time.

Jen (RPOOHBEAR35),

You've been eating Keto for 4 weeks (making day 4 is an accomplishment alone), that is great! Quitting smoking at the same time, wow, and starting to walk 3-4 times a week. Many good changes!

You are doing great. I do however have to set your expectations. Loosing 21 pounds in 4 weeks is much more than "Not bad", it is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. So feel how good that is.

I'm much more of a CICO (Calories In Calories Out) person than Holly (NIGHTSKYSTAR) is.

I can't help thinking CICO. Here is why your weight loss is FANTASTIC. In theory a pound of body fat stores 3500 calories. If you lost 21 pounds of body fat, that would be a calorie deficit (burning more than you consume) of 21*3500, or 73,500 calories. Across 4 weeks that is a deficit of exactly 2625 calories a day. You'd be burning that many more calories than you eat, day after day!

What you have lost is not all body fat. Let me guess at 6 pounds of your loss is glycogen (stored carbs with water in liver and muscles) and other general inflammation. All that water probably adds up to 11 pounds or so. The other 10 could be body fat. At the start of Keto one's body is inefficient at using fat for fuel. It doesn't get all it could out of the fat, so it burns a lot of fat.

Your weight loss will slow, because one can't loose 5 pounds of body fat a week. Maybe 3 pounds a week, then 2, then less. Any week with a loss of weight (assuming that is a goal) is a victory! I just want to set your expectations. One can't loose 5 pounds week after week.

I don't want to burst your bubble, I want you to stay with Keto and get healthier. Don't think something is wrong when your weight loss slows.
