Do you like beef jerkey or turkey sticks? Both of these are high protein and low calorie and will keep you feeling full longer. Working nights is difficult. Make sure to plan your snacks in advance so that the vending machines do not call your name around 0500. emoticon

Hi, I am new to posting and do not quite understand it, so sorry if this is not the correct place. But I have been struggling since starting. I work nights as a nurse and trying to find a regular schedule has been difficult. Anyone out there that works nights and has had some success in dropping some weight? I often do not get to have a break and when I do, it is interrupted. Can someone give me ideas on snacks that are quick to eat that may also have some protein other than almonds....

I'm glad to hear you are in this for the long haul. I could use some inspiration right now and you're it! I have been struggling with staying on track and motivated as a result I have not had a loss for a while. I am moving in the right direction - exercising and getting back into the grove.

Thanks, NEMESIAS76, for the compliment...I've never thought of myself as particularly courageous. But, I do know this, I am NOT going back to where I was. I am in this for the long haul, this time, and at the rate I'm going it will be a very long haul. But who cares if it gets me to where I need to be and it is a place I can live at healthily and with joy! I read this on spark coach one day, "No matter how slow you are going, you're lapping someone sitting on the couch." Some days that is my motto.
Btw, about one month into this journey, I had a bad set back. I had lost about 6 pounds when we had a death in the family followed immediately by another family crisis, which took us "on the road" for about 10 days with lots of eating out and eating what others provided. At the end of the time I had gained back 3 of the 6 pounds and I was really frustrated, and angry with myself. But spark coach encouraged me to press on, and to realize that this is the stuff of real life and I need to learn how to deal with it and not give up when I have a set back...so I got started again, right where I was, and here I am a few weeks later back at the 6 pound loss (almost) and having been successful at dealing with an emotional and difficult time by not giving up. Next time I'll enter into that time with a plan--a real plan, not wishful thinking--to not gain while on the road. That success is what made me willing to get rid of my size 18 pants. Now, I know I can do it.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away...and, remember "slow and steady wins the race".

What courage actually throwing out your clothes that are too big now,That shows a "glass half full' mentality. I wonder if I will ever have your courage? Has anyone else sarted sorting out their wardrobes?

@ MEACASETN, I too have "only" lost 5 pounds since Jan 1, and depending on how I look at it, it can be discouraging. Then again, I think about a 5 pound sack of sugar, or 5-1 pound boxes of butter...and there is that much less of me. AND, yesterday I got rid of all of my size 18 pants...they are just too big! We need to keep the right perspective and press on.

Happy International Women's week everyone. We've had some lovely celebrations in our area. I went out to a healing and wellness workshop at a lovely rainforest retreat with whip birds calling in the forest and healing mantras and meditations sounding in the hall. Women celebrating being women and loving themselves as they are now at this moment.
One old friend who is now seventy dressed up in her bling and danced a veil dance and sang and had a ball. She had a few really bad years but is now back on form and really enjoying life. What an inspiration she is to me. Life is too short to spend it wailing, Enjoy every moment.

Stuck on 155 pounds, still not gaining any weight. I have to confess I am not doing well exercise wise but tomorrow is a start of a new week and emoticon new opportunities.

I know it has slowed down. I have been in a funk for the past couple of weeks. I am trying to be positive in that I have worked out every day. I WILL START TRACKING EVERYTHING TODAY.

I am a down a total of 5 pounds since January 1. I was really hoping to be down 10 by now....but I will take it!

I hate this group has slowed down a bit. I miss the question of the day. I think I will start posting to see if we can get it up and going again. I enjoyed learning new things from you all.

Have a great week!

Lost 2lbs this week but the scale didn't move until Friday. Gone are the big losses of week 1 & 2 so I need to remember that a 2 lb loss is really great! Also - Myfiona - the good thing is that you stayed within your calorie limit per day. Yesterday I went over but factored my exercise into calories so I stayed within my range. I like to put this feature on sat and sun. Good luck this week.

Today I will plan my menu for the week, and prepare what I can. I will key in my evening snack ahead this morning, to try and stay in control. I have been at the high end of my calories all week, so I've got to do better. I did track for one week, so I will celebrate my success.

I actually lost 4 pounds this week! Yay! I am doing the Ideal Protein program and it was really hard for the first two days - it's getting better, though. I have never gotten past the first week of a diet - so here's to my first attempt at Week #2!

Had an incredibly busy week at work; came home exhausted most night and did not even turn on my computer. Hopefully this week will be better. Got a little sloppy with my allowable carbs, so scale says I am up 1.5. I know why, and I know how to fix; I am in control and I made concious choices to go over my allotment a few times this week. I am good with it!

Now to make sure that no matter how busy I am, to check in here anyways; I gotta force myself to make time for Spark!
