My insomnia rant. I'm tired. Tired of the really late nights, being told if you just go to bed earlier. (And lay there till 2 am till I'm too exhausted to sleep.) Tired of waking up at 2am and staying up till 4 am. I just wanna sleep 8 hours uninterrupted for a whole week.

Nice to meet you Gregory :-). I wasn't aware that the dosage needed to be changed. That helps a lot for myself and even my husband actually. He takes a very low dose consistently.

So this is literally just a tired semi-rant (smile) but the little cutie in the photo below is mostly to blame for my non sleep night tonight. She was the latest addition to our family of 12 rescue guinea pigs. She's had a URI and has been getting Baytril but had a sort of reaction to it today. We kept her in her own cage now outside of the cavy cage for our girls as she couldn't even get up the ramp to the second floor of the cage. On top of this, the poor thing was sort of attacked by another of our now recovered baby girls. They have all been bonding perfectly but I think she was just seen as a weak link. The day was pretty much giving order from a syringe, checking eyes and reactivity, and coddling a very, very sweet girl. She started eating again very well with our help this evening and was showing much better awareness. I gave her a syringe of water around 9 pm and she was starting to take it from it like she was drinking from a bottle. It was an awesome sign; she took it all and then another.

Since then she seems to be focusing very well and even gave me kisses when she cuddled last about an hour ago. I still gave her another syringe of water when I cuddled last and she not only took it easily but ate a lettuce leaf and showed a little sass when she tugged it from me. For now, her cage is next to me as she's in one of our normal horrible little guinea pig cages for sick babies. She's watching me from her igloo on and off and I'm going to keep checking on her all night.

Hopefully I can build another cavy cage in the next couple days and bond her with one of our other female babies that we think could be a good mix. Hope to get some sleep over night and hoping everyone else here is catching zzz's too.

Just saying, but all y'all probably know this, that you should not take the same amount every time. For folks like myself, I learned this long after I'd been using it. The problem comes when your body decides it apparently has enough melatonin so it starts toning down its own production. Oops.

Hello, my name is gregory and I'm an insomniac.

Reason why I didn’t buy the time-release melatonin was because of the cost. I’m always up every 1-3 hours anyways so I can take another small dose- was cheaper that way

I've tried melatonin on and off an had good results for the lower dosage. I have a pretty bad case of stage 3 GERD and swallowing problems. I had read that taking a large dosage of melatonin (10 mg). For some strange reason, it did help with my swallowing, sore throats and lump feeling but after a few days I just had to stop for unwanted side effects. I stay at 3 mg and it does help the few hours I do sleep. Just does wonky things after 5 mg.

I'm wondering if time-released would work, although I must admit taking them when I awoke before the time is ingenious so thank you for that testimony.

I’ve pretty good results with divided doses of Melatonin. I take 3 mg an hour before bed and repeat when I’m up between 1 and 3 am. I also take a couple different herbal remedies too- again in divided doses. I still don’t sleep great but it helps. Also I need to start on CPAP but need more tests before I start- of course alas waiting for doctors appointments and insurance approval too 😐. We always have that don’t we

Heya On_A_Diet, and others!
I agree that it'd be grand if we could find a formula that solved our sleep issues in one great leap for mankind. Indeed, I wish we could find a formula that would solve each of our problems and difficulties.
Unfortunately, it is usually the hucksters, shysters, confidence folks, gypsies-tramps-thieves, that have simple answers to complex issues. Oh wait, I forgot to include those types among the forementioned who also go into politics.

My rant against Insomnia is that I need advice from folks who don't suffer from it as much as I need an 8th hole in my skull.

Keep pushing forward, keep finding small solutions, keep struggling for heatlh, keep enjoying your relationship with others.

Peace to all Humanity who struggle to get a minimum of sleep. If there is no easy answer for your issue, be thankful there are many folks trying to solve our issues.

I'm lucky to name and arrange in order of priorities any of my vast issues.

I have tried just laying there, but find an hour later I am still awake with the brain racing. I have taken Unisom with mixed results, but more positive than no results. Usually I don't have a problem falling asleep but wake up between midnight and 3 am with racing brain syndrome. I had hoped that retirement would help, but I can't say it has. I have found that laying quietly and focused on "yoga breathing" can sometimes help calm my brain so sleep can find its way in.

Today, I watched a video that said to go to bed at 10:30 pm every night and if you cannot sleep, to just lay there. I found the suggestion to be weird as most experts say that after 10 or so minutes of just laying there to get up and do something. Isn't just laying there a waste of precious life?

No sleep for me last night. It is almost 5:30 am my time as I am typing this. Normally what keeps me awake is my mind won't stop or pain. I have chronic back pain. I take doxepin for sleep but it doesn't seem to make a difference to me.

Wow I thought I was the only one out here. I hate to say this but I am glad to see more people like me. I have found the answer to my problems and its called Belsomra 20 mg. I am coming off a 20 year bout of taking xanax. I have been xanax free for going on 3 months now. Yea I saw devils dancing around the room and one visit to the ER. I also spent 10 days at a time with no sleep. I now sleep 6 to 8 hrs a night sleeping. I go to bed at a regular hr, I am studying Mindfulness Training and also walking 1 to 2 miles a day 4 days a week. I meditate every day now for 30 minutes a day.

I still have major anxiety along with many types of phobias that I am overcoming. I could go on and on, I can not relax very well but I am learning to do so more every day. I am going to join this group to see if I can help myself more.

I thought I was alone in this now I know I am not and that's soothing to me.

Anyone wanting to swap stories and chat hit me up ok.

Thanks

Why do I find it so difficult to stick to my bedtime routine. It works wonderfully when I do it. But I always tend to find a lot of inconsequential stuff to fritter away the time I should be sleeping.

I haven't been able to sleep very much since Dec 2017. Have had bouts with insomnia in the past, but this is the worst. I average about 2 to 3 hrs of sleep a night. I do not take naps. Some nights I get no sleep at all. Lots of jitters at night and energy high. I could run a marathon at midnight.

Have seen a few docs about this - no help. I have tried about 4 different sleep/anxiety meds ( non-habit forming - or so they say) and they have not worked or made things worse.

I deal with anxiety from a prev 30 plus year marriage that ended with him having a 3 yr affair with a very young girl with criminal records. I had no idea until I got served with a 17,000 credit card demand. He always got mail so I never saw this coming. He (which is legal for a spse to do in FL) had taken several credit cards out on me and used them to support his girl friend and her children. I had visits from cops looking for her at my address (nice up scale 55 plus community) and just thought they had a wrong address. He was always so calm and collected if I asked him anything and gave no clues out. He was gone a lot = supposedly with some older guy friends which now I know was a lie. I also believe when the money started running out ( he went through all of our savings - which was considerable). When that was gone, I believe he and she planned to dump me at sea for insurance money. He took me out one day on our boat and headed for deeper sea. I did not like this and he knew it and when I asked him to turn around he didn't at first. Finally when I started getting very nervous he did take us back. Don't think he could do it that time. I refused to go back out on the boat. My daughter believes this story and that he was capable at that time. I left him, at the strong suggestion of my pastor, and moved in with my daughter in TN. She helped me, or I would have been living under a bridge. I got a divorce, but the trauma of all this left me with anxiety. Shortly after my adult son almost died in NH. My daughter and I got him to a hospital just in time. He soon had a hip replacement (had severe psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis). He had gone down from180 pounds to 130 quickly. Last year he had the other hip done and still needs his two knees done. He is 40. He now lives with my daughter too. It has been an emotional and financial burden trying to get him the help he needs, as he cannot work. TN is not a great state to help disabled people. Been a trial and still working on it.

All this has given me anxiety, even though I believe in God and that He is in control. Still hard to deal with all this. I got remarried to my 7th grade crush and he is terrific. He is so supportive and we live in an apartment in my daughter's home. I have lots of family support, but still have endless nights of no sleep.

I am waiting to hear from a new doc next week that might be able to help me. I do feel like this will all work out and am positive. It still works on me every day though.

Again it is a night of sketchy sleep. Went to bed at 11:30. Got to sleep at midnite. Woke up around 2am and here I lay wide awake.... I will be till about 7am then drift on and off till 1pm. I am so exhausted by this sleep pattern. I read all your posts and I empathize!

JENNY_NG I always wake at 4 a.m. too no matter what time I go to bed. I will doze off again sometimes right after I use the restroom and sometimes I am awake for an hour or more. Ticks me off since I am now retired and should be able to sleep.

I am feeling sorry for myself. I am in a funk. My blog would explain.

I hope you have a blessed Saturday. Any plans for the day?

For Christmas Eve, I am making a crockpot of wedding soup. I cannot wait!

Maybe I could make some buckeyes too. I found a super easy recipe on YouTube. One jar of peanut butter and one jar of chocolate icing. Just layer the two. I lack common sense and was thinking it would be too technical for me to do.

Should I start a blog about cookbooks? Members could share favorite recipes from any cookbook that they want. Maybe THAT would get me out of this funk?

Sounds very familiar. Last month I had two consecutive weeks of 7 hours of sleep , 5 nights out of 7. Thought I had broken the back of sleep deprivation, but am now back to the 3 or 4 am witching/waking hour, and waiting to go back to sleep. My plan is to turn off my iPad no later than 9, plug it in, and not have screen time until the next morning. Hoping that will help!

Tonight, 2 of my articles will go live, both about couples... (1) about nicknames and (2) about Christmas presents. Pray they get many views. :)

Last night, I was a mess. I was sick and could not sleep at all. Today, I felt like a zombie. The roommates and I simply bought pizza from Gionino's for dinner. A luxury.

I have cleaned up the team Dealing With Our Fears. Here is to hoping for activity and new members. Kindly pass the word around.

Then, I was going to do 30 minutes of activity every night before bed. I have decided to simply calculate my activity from my pedometer from throughout the day. Also, I was going to read The Carb Lover's Diet before bed, but the book is so dry that I cannot get into it. I do need my rest and do not want to burn out. I have 12 topics jotted down on paper to research and write about. No joke.

Get your beauty rest and message me if you ever need a friend.

I am getting tired of waking up in the middle of the night. Typically it is on or around 3am and I am unable to get back asleep. I have 3 and a half hours of sleep in. I finally get really tired and go back to sleep at 7am. Even going back to sleep I wake up tired.

When I get up to go to the bathroom, I can't get comfortable when I return to bed. I punch out my pillow and try to get comfortable. Grrrr, so frustrating.

I wish I could get my body to do what my brain tells it to do! I set two alarms on my tracker to remind me to do two things last evening, and my body totally ignored the TO-DOs! They are not things my body is not able to do, just seems my body is too lazy or too tired!

I am not able to get to sleep tonight I am not in the slightest bit tired. I tried taking a hot bath and lying down and an hour later I got up and got on the computer. I have had my sleeping problems for 16 years now! It is either I just can't get to sleep or I go to sleep and I am up again 2-3 hours later wide awake! I have never tried a prescription for sleeping pills. I do drink a hot cup of sleepytime tea every night before bed and it does not work. I have my bed scented with lavender essential oil to help induce sleep to no avail. I am so tired of being tired.

I seem to go through phases. At times I wake up after 4 hours no matter how tired I was when I went to bed. At other times I sleep right through and wake up just before the alarm. I seem to be in my good phase now; I hope the time change won't throw me off again.

It annoys me to keep waking up during the night. I might sleep a bit, but then I wake up, look at the clock and see I haven't slept long at all. Doing this all night does not provide me with a restful sleep.

I tracked bedtime for the first week of the year and did great; then I did no tracking for the second week and did poorly, so I guess I'll have to resume tracking for week # 3.

Mine is if I take a nap during the day then I can't sleep at night. If I'm upset or ruminating about something I can't sleep. I sometime take Bendryl or Trazadone to help me sleep.

My problem is the racing thoughts in my head when I'm in bed, like I need to do this or that the next day. Then I figure, why not get it done now? So I get up, do whatever and then I stay awake. I find it strange that I can still function the next day without feeling tired. Does this happen to you?

I believe some individuals are more nocturnal. I was one of them. It has taken developing a routine and medication to be able to get a restful sleep. I schedule my medication and then I am asleep within an hour.

The first week of the New Year I did so well with my resolution to be in bed with lights out before midnight. I got a good 7 - 71/2 hours sleep and felt great!!! But the last 4 days I slipped back into my old ways and only got 5 - 6 hours of (interrupted) sleep. Grrr... and , of course, when I stay up late I snack on junk so it becomes a double whammy. Is there a "night owl" gene? and, if so, how can I turn mine off so I can go to sleep at a decent hour?

Sometimes when my mind won't shut off I will write about what is bothering me. I may make a list or a plan to take care of some of the problems. The last time this happened, I made a monthly plan to begin working on some health issues which were bothering me. I am glad I did, or I probably would not be working on them now.
Welcome to the team!

Slept terrible last night. I laid in bed for the longest time, and could not shut my mind off, kept thinking about things, and finally got up and got on the computer and thought, I would start back with Spark again. So here, I am. I am new to this team.

It is very basic. First I established a time which would work for me. An hour before, I turn off the computer, and begin my nighttime preparations. I may drink a cup of peppermint tea or something I find relaxing, as I begin the grooming and preparations for the next day if any need to be made. I do take medications which help me to sleep so after the hour I take them and head to bed. I make a point of keeping the same time schedule which after a while I noticed seemed to make a difference for me.

I hope you find a way to get a restful sleep. emoticon

I have finally established a fairly regular sleep schedule. It makes a difference when it is disrupted. There are times when outside influences will get me off track and this makes me irritable.

Amen! I do the same thing! I have started singing a one line song to myself like a mantra over and over to keep my mind from racing till I can drop of to sleep. Its my kitty has a first name its Oscar. And I repeat it over and over and if I try to stray my thoughts I bring it back and I eventually fall back to sleep. You know that your close when you start forgeting the words.
