I have a lot of issues sleeping this time of year. I don't know if it's the weather or the fact that my depression becomes unbelievable, but I struggle in the winter.

So, must be no one has discovered real answers for this problem yet. We follow all the suggestions, but each night so many of us still fall short of that unattainable 8 solid hours of real sleep. Maybe some day...

Wish I had the magic solution for this problem. The best I can do is focus on something dull when I want to sleep. Most of my insomnia comes from my mind working overtime. If I distract it enough, I can get up to five hours of sleep. But this doesn't always work. As I lose more weight it may get easier to sleep since I will probably be more comfortable in my own skin.

I wish their was an easy cure to having a couple nights that slept at a normal time for a fair amount of hours to not being able to sleep even with sleep meds and a crash of too many hours after a few days of not sleeping. No way to have a routine at all that way. Trying to stick to a routine even when not sleeping only goes for so long. Some people just never understand that. All you keep hearing is that if you have to stick to a routine and get exercise your body will set the clock after a while. Well I have had issues since I was a teenager and it has never worked that way for me. Sure you get up and go to work and do the things you need to, but that doesn't mean you aren't fighting headaches, fatigue and irritability because you cannot sleep like other people do. When you cannot work and your children are on their own, it can be harder to stick to a routine but at least try. Only people who suffer with sleeping 2-5 hours at night for a whole week straight and many of those being 2-3 hours, understands what a person with sleep issues has. For years it has been only sleeping a couple hours a night and then more sleep for Saturday and back to the only a couple hours a night. Even with help with the RLS, it hasn't helped with all the pain and general only 1-2 days a month that sleep and feel good the next day. I can't answer for others, but that is the way it has been for me and still is and am now 48 so even sleep meds do not cure all that is going on and help so that sleep and feel good the next day. I have a lot more issues that cause pain now, but it still sucked even when I was younger!

You can do all things you set your mind to. You can do all things through Christ that strengthens all. Challenge to remind myself of this daily. sparkpeople.com

This week has been really hard for me. I've had a pounding headache and nausea for most of it. I think it's because finals are coming up and I've been super stressed about those. One is an essay question in the class I'm not so good in.. It's been insane. Plus I'm working on a video blog for the one show that I love, Dexter. I'm making video blogs about my opinions of the season finales. I've started with the series finale. If anyone is a fan and wants a link, send me a private message.

I spoke too soon. I've been up all night night before last and got 5 hours last night but am knocking myself out with my knockout foods (high sodium) to take naps to log the hours for the challenge. But also cuz I need the sleep or I can't workout for 2 hours.

Peanut- it's just been so much easier this week because I have to do a lot of travelling and it's emotionally draining with my boyfriend. I can't keep up with the 2 hour exercise regime for the challenge anymore and I've been going to bed around 9 pm waking up through the night but lying there with my iPhone and doing hypnosis or relaxing music. I have a tendency probably unlike some to get up when I wake up. A therapist once told me to only stay in bed 20 minutes without being asleep, to train yourself. I think perhaps that's not always the case. Anyways, it just happens that our sleep challenge coincides with the week (there will be more) my boyfriend is in the hospital and indeed last night night I was so tired I can't believe I even made it home. Sorry to confuse you. Perhaps force-feed is not the best descriptor.

How do you force feed yourself sleep? I'm liking the 7 hour goal five days out of the week. At least it seems a possibility. After two months of trying for 8, and succeeding only a few times in the three months I've followed all the suggestions, I think I will occasionally be able to get the 7.

Woo hoo, great idea! And congrats on the weightloss. I'm doing better since the 5% challenge goal this week is to get 7-9 hours sleep. I'm force feeding myself sleep. Forget the evening workouts. Plus my boyfriend's in the hospital and that's wearing me out with the running back and forth.

I just want to say that this weekend I finally took some time for myself and it was awesome!

Also, I finally bought a scale and figured out just how much weight I lost. That number is 13 pounds. I am proud of myself.

Oh, no! It's 2am and I can't allow myself to sleep even though I'm so tired! I have so much work to do!!! I want to practice yoga for 45 minutes to get some exercise in for heavens' sakes, but I don't want to wake up the neighbours with the sound on the computer. I'm under so much pressure with the Fall 5% Challenge and all my other goals. I never get any sleep at night, just conk out for a few hours in the day, never around the same time, could be noon, 4, or 6. It's fun, all this work and making myself into a healthier, more accomplished person, but sometimes I have to say, it's not. PS. I've lost 20 founds in 49 days. Worth it?

here it is like 1 am and i need to get some sleep, because i need to be at my volunteer job by 10 30. if i don't get enough sleep, i am no good to anybody and i'm very cranky. i took my meds, did my shower, drank a warm cup of milk, didn't have a snack after 7, put on soothing music, and i'm still wide awake. oh, well, looks like i'll be on a couple hours sleep. oh yeah, and i have to weigh-in today at 6 30. well, now i'm tired because i'm yawning all over the place. at 1 in the morning. well, i'm STILL going to have a good day today. THANK GODNESS FOR COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have this pattern. Many months of bad sleep, then a couple months of pretty good sleep. Right now I'm in pretty good sleep. I'll get all the mileage I can out of it, knowing that before long it will be the same ol' same ol', and I don't know why it works this way.

Hi everyone. I haven't been on here much because I have been really busy dealing with schoolwork. I am doing really well in my classes, and I've even had a better sleep schedule than I did while living at home. I thought that going away to school would interfere with my desire to lose weight and my sleep schedule problems. It didn't happen, as I came home this past weekend and people have been commenting on how much weight I have lost!

PS: I am the proud godmother to my best friend's baby boy, Brandon, who was born October 11, 2013.

I fall asleep for about 2 hours then I'm wide awake!! Try not to look at the clock. And I also try to 'trick' my mind into what time it really is!! I cant remember the last time I slept 4 hours straight! My doctor gave me some meds, but it went to the other extreme! I'd almost fall asleep at stop lights, or whenever I sat down! I keep trying though!! Hope everyone has a good weekend!!

I have to get up it seems like every hour to go to the bathroom. I have tried not drinking any liquid after 4:00 PM but it does not help. It is so annoying. It would be great just to have one night without the bathroom run. I never watch TV at bedtime or turn the lights on when I go to the bathroom at night. Has anyone got any ideas of what to do.

Love it! I like to wait for the sun to wake up too; Listen for the birds to start singing, the neighbors going off to work, getting kids up and out the door for school. It is my favorite part of the day.

Also, and importantly, I think it is good to get up when you feel rested. Sometimes, we don't need as much sleep.

Only slept 5 hours or so; cant be entirely accurate because I try not to focus on the clock (glowing on the nightstand). I feel rested so decided to start my day and wait for the sun to do the same emoticon

emoticon SLEEP sometimes I wonder what that is and why can't I have it, my husband does. 1st-my mind won't stop working. 2nd-I have RLS(restless leg syndrome) which I wouldn't wish on anyone. The dr gave me requip for the RLS, I have to take it 4 times a day however for it to really work. I also take a medication for mild depression and most of the time now I can sleep but never know. I also have sleep apnea. So way too many things that are there to interrupt sleep emoticon emoticon emoticon

My Doctor gave me Trazodone to help me sleep. Last night I took 2 of them, I went to sleep around 9:30. Dead to the world. I woke up at 10:30 and thought it was time to get up until I looked at the clock. The rest of the night was miserable. Finally around 2:30 I got up and started reading my book. I dozed off here and there but it was only for 10 minutes or so. Right now I'm dog tired. I can't keep this up.

At a particularly rough time in my life, sleepwise, I made the mistake of telling a friend who THOUGHT he knew what I meant. Smart guy with some glaring social miscues. I was lucky enough to fall asleep fairly early one night (11:15), and the phone rang at 11:45. He said, "I figured you'd be up."

I'm awake all night every night. I guess the best way to describe how I feel every night is tired but wired. I'm exhausted and yet I cannot sleep. I never used caffeine, I don't know what the solution is...

my sleep is normally all over the place, but have had 7 hours or more about 4 times this week which is good for me. plus a few naps on some days.

I'm back to weird sleep with lots of waking up in the middle of the night with difficulty getting back to sleep. Ugh.

Funny I don't know how much sleep I had. I just know I'm sleepy. Everyone in my house hold sleeps early and they wake up early. If I had to guess i will say 5, but did I really get that 5 hours of sleep?
