@PBVHCCVH The longest I have ever gone without water and electric is 6.5 years, but then that house was made that way. The longest in a house that was made to have electric and running water is 2 week, done that several times, but then the day time temp was in the 90's and the night in the 70's The joys of living with hurricanes. We have 2 camp stoves, 7 lanterns, and a whole room of food that doesn't need refrigerated.

@MARYALICE411. Thanks for giving me a good chuckle picturing your kitty and her antics.

We lost electricity this past week for 47 hours so could not ride my stationary bike as it uses electric to record everything, etc. we were snowed in for a few days but are all cleared out now. The snow blower would not start so hubby had to do our long driveway by snow shovel. Of course when the electric quit, we had no running water or heat....and the night's got down to 21 degrees F.

Better get working on sending out some Spark Goodies!

I was riding my peddler this morning. Fancy, tabby cat, decided she needed to catch my legs, and she did, but they kept moving, she tried both paws, and my legs kept moving. She got on the table next to my peddler and batted at my legs, and they kept moving, she tried jumping on my legs and decided that playing with my rugs in process was more fun. Don't worry about the rugs. They are rag rugs and the one she was interested in is one that wasn't turning out right and I was taking apart to try and redo. Not as much to take apart, and if you start with rags not much she an damage.

I make two kinds of rag rugs, One out of old sheets and one out of old tee shirts. I have a tote full of old sheets and a draw full of old tee shirts. Oh you make rugs here take these. Mom also makes the rugs out of tee shirts. She has even more shirts that need cut up then I do. She has entered her rugs in the fair, in the recycle division and in the rugs division and won best of show in both.

I'm back. A week where I could only flush once a day, no other water could go down the drain, and for some reason the internet seemed to think if the septic didn't work it shouldn't either. It seams whoever put the lift station in, made more code violations then I care to think about, some so obvious that I knew they were not code and the city won't pay for it because the tank, pipes leading to the tank and from the tank to the lift station were clogged with wipes. The sceptic guy was explain how bad wipes were for a septic tank, I told him I have had a sceptic tank most of my life and knew wipes were a no no. I have only lived in the house 9 months. He said no one deserves this kind of house warming gift.

Pat my 46,000 steps put me the middle of my team of monsters. Looking at the totals, one monster team everyone did 100,000.

I have figured out the rhythm. We do a daily challenge every other Wednesday. That gives the big guys a chance to recover. A walker takes 18 hours to do 100,000 steps. Plus breaks for things like meals and bathroom. So they need to get some rest not just from that many steps but from being up all day.

I lucked out. I had never had a reaction to bee or wasp stings, except a little red spot that could have been an ant bite. Then about 5 years ago I got 5 wasp stings at once on my hand, My Daughter is an ER/ICU nurse and said call the Dr. 5 stings is bad news. Good news I didn't have Any worse reaction then normal. Bad news, There was a 75% chance I was now allergic to wasp. I was real careful, but my luck ran out and I got a sting on my leg. My whole leg swelled up, the sting make was bigger them my hand and hurt like you know what. What if it ha been close to my head.

We moved into a new house, The first thing I saw was a wasp nest on the front porch. I was told wasp don't like mint. I got a small plant that afternoon and put it on the porch. An hour later NO wasp, none, nada. 2 days later they were at the back door. Another plant for the back door. Wasp all gone The mint is growing like a rank weed, but I don't care it can take over the yard for all I care. My neighbors have wasp, they swear by insecticide, they spay about once a month, I might have mint taking over my yard, but no wasp. Wonder if it works for bees?

Another advantage to all the mint, there is nothing like a cup of mint tea before bed.

@MARYALICE411. WOW!! Those 46,000 steps should have been a huge help! You did exceptionally well!
I had to make a trip to the ER recently. I got stung by 2 wasps and am very allergic to bee stings. I quickly grabbed my Epi Pen and tried to inject myself, but the pen didn't work! My hubby double checked it (he's a retired RN) then immediately took me to the ER. When I got there, my face and throat were very swollen so they took me in immediately. After shots of Epinephrine and doses of Benedryl, things started to calm down! They checked my Epi Pen and said it was defective! Anyway, things sorta back to normal now.
Hope all is well with you.
Pat

Yesterday I didn't post. I'm in a group of 4 monster teams against 4 alien teams. That's 80 of us. I did what I could for the monsters, so spent an hour on the bike, I don't know if my 46,000 steps was any help or not, but that is way over normal and last contest the aliens won by 3200 steps. I also know of the 80 of us 30 broke 100,000 steps, So not going there.

Pat hope this finds you better

For those that wear a tracker, some call this cheating, but since it is exercise I feel it counts. Your tracker will count steps on your bike, well I have worn 5 different brands and they all would. You can wear your tracker on your ankle/foot. If you have a clip, clip it on your shoe, if it is a wrist watch type, fasten it around your ankle if the band is long enough. Put it in your sock with the band going around your ankle even if the ends don't met. I wouldn't recommend this for an outdoor bike. The HR function doesn't work very good on your ankle. So you can leave the tracker on your wrist and keep your hand on your leg or knee, but every time you lift your hand you loose steps.

The tracker will only count the movement on one foot. But since we normally peddle faster then we walk there isn't that much difference. I walk 3,000 steps in a 30 minutes. If I ride at a constant easy speed, I get 2700 steps. If I do sprints, I get between 3100 and 3300 steps depending on how many sprints I do.

I went on Etsy and got an ankle band made to my size

I'm a walker that started on the bike when someone said I would burn more calories. I could ride the bike better with a broken toe then I could walk, but then I broke my little toe.

Things that helped

Wear losses fitting shoes or slippers
tape the broken toe to the toe next to it
when you sit down if posable raise your toe above your hips, when lying down put a pillow under our foot

My daughter is a nurse she suggested taking IB or Tylenol, but remember your toe is hurt and take it easy even if it feels better.
Some people find warm salt water foot baths help.
Except tapering it there isn't much a Dr can do unless it heals crocked and you have probles with shoes, Then he will rebreak it and tape it

Hi MaryAlice! My meds got changed early this morning (7:30 Dr. appointment) so hopefully my balance will get better. Yesterday I went to get off my recumbent bike, got dizzy, and landed on the floor! At least I didn't break the bike!! I did manage to break one of my toes though:(:(. That may make pedaling a bit of a challenge, butI'm not letting it stop me!

I have virtually walked the Appalachian Trail, AT, I know you know you are on trail when you see the blue blazes, I know the northern end on the AT it the top of a mountain in Maine. I had often thought about day walking parts of the trail. The video I watched while riding this morning was Baxter State Park in Maine, started out pretty going through the woods. Then we started climbing granite boulders up a mountain, then I realized we were following blue blazes. The video ended when we got to the top of the mountain in the clouds. That IS NOT part of the trail I want to day hike.

@LEW0213. I'm gradually getting better, but it hit my right side again so set it back further. In 2011 I had a major stroke among a multitude of other things and was paralyzed from my neck down on right side. The doctors thought it was permanent, but I have about 80% usage back. I walk like I'm sloshed, but at least I'm walking, exercising, etc.

I hadn't pitched horseshoes sine I was a child when my sisters and I thought the pit should be full of water and the goal was to see who could make the biggest splash. But 6 months ago I moved to Horseshoe bend and horseshoes are a big deal Slow but steady progress, Most of my pitches weren't even close to the stake, but I had 3 ringers.

I watch walking videos while I peddle. This morning I spent 46 minutes riding the trails in Chile and this afternoon 44 minutes riding the trails in Costa Rico. I live in North Central Ar. It was summer with a high in the mid 90's and a feel like over 100/. The remints of that storm that hit my daughter south of Houston hit us this afternoon. Temps dropped into the 70's, hope the storm chased summer off

I think you have a lot of good ideas. I think part of the problem is that there aren't many people on this site. That and I know sometimes I even wonder if anyone reads what I say, then out of the blue several people will say how much I helped them. I haven't said much because you mostly say the things I know.

I know one of the problems I had for a while is that I knew a lot, but wasn't always following it myself. I know I had to do things like I can't read my book till after I do my strength exercises. Being retired helps in that I have time, but hurts in that I'm close to the kitchen all day

Good for you! 50 pounds is alot!

I thought for a while, that maybe I have not lost any weight, but if I could help someone else, it would be worth the while. I have never been given a thank you. So, what am I to think? Am I even being helpful? MaryAlice411, I do not mean YOU. OK?

Hang in there, It is all up to you. You have to do what you think is best. I enjoy talking with you, but if you feel you need to try something different, go for it. Nothing is for everyone. I may not be happy about it, but I'll understand.

Before Hurricane Ike, I was on a different weight loss site, one that charged every month. I had heard about SP but didn't think a free site could be as good. After Ike, I couldn't work, the roof had fallen in on my job. I switched to SP and found it to be so much like the other site is wasn't funny. I decided it wasn't worth paying for something I could get for free. Between the 2 sites I have lost 50 pounds.

Hello to all of you superb Sparkpeople members. The new year is here.

I have been keeping myself occupied with work and side hustles. When I wake up it is dark outside. When I go to bed it is dark outside. When is the time change ever going to get here?

Instead of drinking my favorite diet lemon iced tea in my sports water bottle, I made a pitcher of unsweetened black iced tea. Tastes good for a change.

I may be quitting Sparkpeople. In 2015, I began Sparkpeople and weighed 170. It is now 2019 and I still weigh 170 pounds. I think I need to pursue different avenues. If you really want me to stay, tell me. If not, I really may have to go.

Have a good weekend.

Christmas I eat something I shouldn't and yesterday, except for bathroom runs, didn't get out of bed till 11:30 and then basically wondered around trying to remember what I was doing. This morning I'm feeling better but my get up and go is still MIA. I was going to go for a walk and see if I could find it, but a clap of thunder that rattled the windows and a 3 inch an hour down pour changed that plan.

I'm a walker I love to walk, not fast, just walk. Enjoy the scenery. Well as you know I need some cardo, that is where the stationary bike comes in.

I normally do 17-20 miles an hour for 30 minutes. Today I didn't push it. Just did what my body wanted. 13 miles an hour for 25 minutes.

Depends on the nut. Tree nuts take so long for the tree to grow. Sometimes they have to grow and tend the tree for 5 to 10 years before they get a good crop. Peanuts and soy nuts, neither are really nuts, are very sensitive to the weather. But on good years the cheapest. If you like most nuts, mixes are the cheapest and if there is a place you can buy them in bulk they are cheaper. I like bulk because it is the easiest way I have found to get unsalted. There are some places on line you can get good deals on nuts, but you have to be prepared to buy a lot to get free shipping. I find that I got bugs in the big bags if I didn't put them in a container, So there is a big outlay for on line.

The grocery store I shop at has a bulk food section and a good unsalted mix. It still cost a pretty penny, but a serving is pretty small, So I don't think it is more then a serving of meat. But then it has been 22 years since I bought meat.

Toss up. Home made yeast rolls or home made cranberry sauce. They knew I was coming so had cooked all the veggies without adding bacon, very nice of them. That meant I git a full dinner \, no protein, but that is why there was a serving of nuts in my purse.

Merry Christmas. My Holliday meal is always changing. I have been slowly, slower then the DR would like eliminating things from my diet. We are down to the only things that come from an animal I can eat are egg whites and honey. Doc isn't sure I should be eating egg whites, but so far I haven't had a problem. But then cheese wasn't bothering me and one day last week it hit me hard.

This year I eat with my DH family. They had a big traditional dinner. I picked carefully and was able to get a full plate. No protein though,

My Christmas Dinner Alone

This year, I spent Christmas without my family.

My family's Christmas dinner tradition was always homemade spaghetti and a big garden salad.

My mother never taught me how to make homemade spaghetti. However, she did teach me how to make a mean pasta salad. So, what was I supposed to do for Christmas this year?

I made a big pasta salad.

Merry Christmas.

I'm still in TX, for now. I work at The Children's Place, a children's clothing store. 10 months a year I work 4 hours a day 2 or 3 days a week. Right now I'm working 5 days a week 4 to 9 hours a day. Got to love the Holidays. Got to love the people that yell and scream, demand everything under the sun then get mad and yell and scream some more because you are out of it. Then there is the one, never know when that person will show up, but it isn't often enough. They will say something like " I saw how you handled that difficult person. You restore my faith in people. I just don't know how you do it."

The Dr says I need to live 250 miles from the nearest city. Before I retired that wasn't an option. We moved 50 miles outside Houston. Outside the city, but close enough I could find work. Now Pearland has grown up between us and Houston. So when DH royalties come in we will be looking for a place in the Ozark. I don't want the heat of west TX or the real cold, DH has medical problems were we need to be where we can get to a hospital. This seamed like a good compromise. Most small towns have some kind of hospital with a chopper transport to Little Rock, Springfield or Memphis.

Before you ask, DH father is in the country music hall of fame. We get little dribbles of royalties all year. Not much, but as you know every little bit helps. Then once every 5 years we get a big check. It isn't near as much as when Floyd was alive. So put off everything we can till that check comes in, so it is pretty much spent when we get it. Well we decided to move when the check came in a couple years ago and have been living accordingly.

Thanks anyway... I cannot afford to download. My luck.

How have you been? I am working on my teams and then need to work. Fortunately, I can work from wherever I am. I telecommute.

Are you still working part-time?

What is Texas like right now? Hot? The winter here has been mild. I pray the weather stays this way until spring. Freezing, OK, but no snow.

Have a super day Mary Alice!

It is an app. I get it on google play store. I just put google treadmill trails in the search bar and it comes up. The app looks like you are walking between two mountains. I can't get it on the kindle App Store and haven't tried on Apple .The app is free, but the trails cost 99 cents to down load.

Amazon has its own walking trails. Free If you are an Amazon prime member. They are about 30 minutes each, sponsored by a tour company and guided tours. The trails change from time to time so the old ones will disappear and news ones appear. The first ones were mostly US national monuments. Then they were trails in Europe now they are mostly Europe city walking trails.

A man walks the trail with a video camera. You never see the man, you just see the trail you are walking and the scenery. I watch the videos walking in the living room, on the treadmill and on the starry bike. Something to do besides stare at the wall

I rode my bike from the South rim of the Grand Canyon to the river below today.

OK you know how I like my videos. Between the switchbacks and the "dams" along the trail for water drainage there is no way I would ride a bike on the trail. This was a 30 minute walking video. The guy that is really walking it says in reality it takes 4 hours to walk. Beautiful scenery. You see what he sees as one video. Oh you can see places where he cut it to make 4 hours into 30 minutes.

Yes I can believe it is the Holidays. I was working 4 hours a day 2 or 3 days a week. Now I'm working 4 to 9 hour days 4 or 5 days a week. And some days are so busy I don't get half the water I should. I say Holidays not because I have anything against Christmas, but there are 26 religions that have a holiday this time of the year, most of them involve gift giving. I know that there are at least 5 in the Houston area. And I have recognized 3 in our store. Plus the ones that I don't think have a religion they just like the gift thing and make it very plain that we need to make sure we get what they want and get it now. What happen peace and goodwill.

emoticon for the advice. I made sure the batteries were brand-new and placed a big red bow on the darn contraption.

I have given her books, DVDs, a portion plate, nutritious meals every day, etc. What more does she want?

Anyway, how are you MARYALICE411? We have not chatted in quite a while! Still working and spending time with the grand kids?

Can you believe Christmas already? My last New Year's resolution has not happened. I keep holding on to my memories of my high school sweetheart, but I think he is married. I compare every man I meet to him. I just cannot wait forever. Should I? Anyway, my resolution was to meet a man.

I gave one of my roommates an early Christmas present... a fitness pedal exerciser. She is always sitting on the couch doing crafts and watching television. So, I placed it right at her seat and surprised her. What did she do? Took the darn thing to her bedroom and has left it there without use. I have done everything I can to help her. I give up.
