Me to James, when I was eating things with carbs in it. Now that it has been 21 days of not eating sugar (keeping my carbs at or below 20) I Do Not crave carbs. Most of the carbs I do eat come from the veggies I eat.

It seems to me that this is the only active thread on this team. I appreciate you, Dawn and Holly for spending your time coming back to this team to talk to me. So I will leave this team and go to your other team. Thanks to all of you.

BOBBIESOCKS-46,
for myself carbs are very addictive. If I eat too many my mind is asking for more.

I try to limit myself to 20g of carbs or less. I keep my fat high to make the percentage stay low.

Bobbie the main thing is to keep the carbs under 20. The percentages are not the important thing. Calories are not important unless you aren’t eating enough—it’s REALLY important to keep your cals up).

Thanks, y'all.

Dawn, what are you eating to keep the carbs at 3%? Even on the days, I don't eat more than 13 carbs the percentage is 9 to 11% on SP tracker. Are you using a different tracker?

I try to keep my ratio as close to 80%/17%/3%....that’s fat/protein/carbs. I actively exercise about 4-6 hours a day on the norm.

I do have one question for y'all. What do you consider the ratio of carbs, fats and proteins to be?
I try for 20 to 30 on the carbs and about 75 on the fats but no idea on the protein.

Thank you, Holly, for noticing.

Thank you James for sharing.

The information really helps me. I'm sorry they didn't tell you what would or could happen to you when the Dr. gave you the steroids. By you posting that information on here you will help others. So thank you.

I have lost a few pounds but I'm more interested in my blood sugar and pressure (health).
Sun.11/3/19 ~ BS 118
Mon.11/4/19 ~ BS150
Tue. 11/5/19 ~ BS108
I had not changed anything since I started on 10/26/19. Confused me.

After~10/26/19 ~ These are the improvements I have noticed in myself as of 11/5/19.
(1) So far, my morning readings of BS have dropped from 250 range to close the normal range of 108
(2) I have lost 5.4 pounds.
(3) I'm getting out of chairs easier and walking faster.
(4) My right knee has stopped hurting.
(5) I don't need to urinate near as often.
(6) My stomach is not blotted anymore.

Bobbie

BOBBIESOCKS-46,
my experience with better blood sugar levels was like yours. Eat Keto and it gets much better very soon.

Yes excess body fat is also a factor. Insulin is trying to lower blood sugar by storing excess blood sugar into cells, both lean cells and fat cells. So more body fat, and the more it resists insulin. So loosing body fat also improves blood sugar levels (for type-2 diabetics), but not having the carbs to start with make a huge difference right away.

BOBBIESOCKS-46,
I was on oral steroids, not a one time injection, or even a few times. It was daily. After a few weeks I noticed that my glasses were too strong, ... almost didn't need them. I thought this was great, steroids were curing my vision!

I had pimples break out all over, I was thirsty, and drinking coke while eating chocolate bars. This was pre-keto, about 25 years ago.

My blood sugar was all messed up due to the prednisone. Indeed, these days it is known that prednisone can induce type-2 diabetes ... which is what happened to me. All the symptoms, ... changes in eye shape (body trying to dilute blood sugar) , pimples (reaction to high blood sugar) , thirst (body trying to get more liquid in order to dilute blood sugar).

So this was over a number of weeks of steroids. As I've written before, my blood sugar was so high that when my doctor got the numbers he thought I was in imminent danger of having a heart attack.

Thank you, James, for sharing about why you had to go back on medication. I was wondering if you took the steroids in a shot just once or many times. I was given a shot in my knee several years ago. I think it was a cortisol shot for inflammation but I'm not sure now, it may have been a steroid shot. I guess I better find out.

On the bright side, my Blood Sugar was 118 this morning. Last week I was getting between 250 and 300 readings. I'm just amazed. Now if my Blood Pressure would just come down too, that would be great. Still working on it.

ISABELLE84,
the "Keto flu" is really a hydration issue. The first few days to a week of Keto can be rough. You are dumping a lot of water which is associated with stored carbs, which is glycogen. It is about a pound of carbs, and about 4 pounds of water that is associated with that glycogen.

So in week 1 you can loose about 4 or 5 pounds. It is a big shock to the body's balance. Salt or electrolytes, like powerade zero with electrolytes really helps smooth the transition.

BOBBIESOCKS-46,
for myself, my blood sugar got much better in a very short time, less than a week. My blood sugar medication (pills) went from very high, to needing none at all right at the start.

I would have thought that the excess body fat would have been the other factor in my blood sugar numbers, and I didn't loose that until much later.

I'm back on blood sugar medication after many years of Keto, but I don't blame Keto for that, its just my body. I do blame it on some steroids I took a long time ago to try to try to deal with internal inflammation. Bad idea, bad bad idea. I should have just suffered with the inflammation.

Hi, y'all I just think it's fantastic that you lost 130 to 150 pounds, Dawn and Holly. I will do it too. I'm hoping by Christmas 2020... I'm glad to hear that , that loss rate fits right in there.

For now, my blood sugar is still going down and I'm just amazed at that. It was 144 before breakfast this morning.

I'll have to check with some of the stores in the next town about the bones. I was shocked when the local stores don't sell them anymore. I'm not concerned enough to make a special trip though. I probably won't even think about it when I go.

((Huges)) Bobbie

Actually 8 mths and 130 lb loss is about 3.5 lbs per week. 2-4 lbs per week is supposed to be healthy. That loss rate fits right in there. Good job!
I bet the first few weeks it was more than 3.5 lbs per week. The first week or two are mostly body fluids. For example, I lost 5 lbs my first week, and the scales look great. But I know that my actual fat loss may not be reflected in the scales. Weight is only part of the equation.

I don't believe in miracles, I depend on them!

yay to feeling better Bobbie!! and yeah i agree. i had tried EVERY diet known to man, starvation, everything. along comes keto. i'm not hungry. i'm eating everything i was always told to avoid. i feel better, and the weight just fell off. i was very strict, but still!!!

My local grocery sells bones. marrow bones, any kind of bones they have. if you can find a butcher nearby betting they can help you out! in the meantime, buy steak on the bone..when you have eaten it bag the bone and freeze it..wont be long till you have enough!!

and dont buy into the "bone broth" hype. its just stock, boiled a little longer. people are getting rich off this buzzword stuff. Collagen? find plain gelatin. thats collagen. and its cheap, unlike the stuff labelled collagen. IF? its just going without food for a time..you do that naturally between dinner and breakfast. plus keto itself gives you all the same benefits.
took me a while and a lot of research to find all that out. now everything is affordable without buying all that stuff!!

Hi y'all, Dawn, Holly and Isabelle...

Isabelle... you said something about you are going to make you own broth. If you can find a place to buy beef bones (other than online) Please, let me know. None of our local grocery stores around here sale bone any more. I was going to do the same thing a few weeks ago. All the stores I talked to said the bones are sold to dog food companies now. I guess you could buy them at a slaughterhouse.

Holly... thanks for the list of things to do for the Keto Flu. I haven't had it yet but I'm expecting it.
I think losing 130 lbs in 8 months is pretty darn fast, correct me if I'm wrong. I want and need to lose weight but, that comes second to me and what comes first (my health) I think will take care of my weight.

The struggle of No Sugar or anything that turns to Sugar in my body is getting easier for me. But, I'm to full to eat all the 1800 cals a day. I'm lucky if I get 800 down a day.

I already feel better. The yeast problem is gone, a pain in my left knee that stopped me from doing some exercising is gone, and so far my BS is staying down.

Isabelle...
powerade zero
salty chicken broth
just mixing half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of water
dill pickles and/or pickle juice.
all will help with the "flu"

I dont know if this will help you or not..it did me those first couple weeks when i was struggling. Someone said something very smart to me...
do you know that every time you slip it takes a couple days to get back on track? is that taste that is in your mouth for seconds worth starting over again?
and this was the real clincher...dont let yourself get hungry. want something crunchy? have pork rinds. Just bored and wanting to eat? cheese and pepperoni or meat sticks. have the urge to cook? make a keto recipe.
I did zero sweet anything but the powerade zero my first 3 weeks on keto. if i had any sweeteners i wanted more sweet...so figured out that if i just stayed away i didnt want the sweet any more. when i added it in it was in small portions.
and if you think you are hungry..try cup of hot tea or coffee, or a glass of ice water..and tell yourself if you are still hungry in 20 mins you will get something. usually that urge is gone by then.

and dont forget..keto is NOT a low calorie way of eating. you should be having a minimum of 1800 cals a day, depending on your height. but thats pretty much minimum for everyone. i'm 5'8 and my "sweet spot" is 2300 cals a day. i was shocked to find i could eat so much and still lose well. especially in the first weeks, eat all you need to to stay the course..just choose healthy fats, moderate protein. make some snacks you can grab when the urge his you...hard boiled eggs. many like boursin cheese. cream cheese, cheese sticks , cut up summer sausage or pepperoni.

not sure where you are getting your macro info from, but many are far, far off from what most experts recommend. if you want a good, accepted calculator ask..i can message you the link.

you can do it!!

I'm glad I found this team!

I've been on a finding-my-lifestyle journey for a couple of years, I started with paleo/primal - I stuck to it for a couple of years - than I did a Whole30 and found out a couple of things such as being intolerant to gluten and lactose and being allergic to soya. I have an autoimmune condition so the AIP food list also apply to me too.

A couple of weeks ago, I started reading Dr Perlmutter's Grain Brain book and I decided to launch into a keto lifestyle. For the last 2 weeks, it's been a bit hectic. Weekends are really my weaks ends and so I slipped the last 2 - nothing major the second one but still. Work in progress.

Now, my problem is.. keto flu I guess? I'm tired, dizzy, hungry, a bit nauseous... my macros are a bit off but I mean, a couple of grams off, nothing major (or is it?)

I've read a lot about it so I'll go to the grocery store tonight to buy bone broth until I can make some myself. I just wanted to share and hear your own adaptation stories =)

I LOVE the keto lifestyle. I feel much more energetic. I’m rarely hungry. It’s easy to fit around my life style.

Thanks Bobbie!!! And congrats on your BS going down more—that’s fantastic!!
It took me 8 months to lose 130. The rest just snuck up. After the first 4 months for me it was about feeling better—for the first time in my life my weight and food didn’t consume me. If I’m not doing a challenge I only get on the scale monthly.

Hi Holly,
Congratulations on you 3rd ketoversary anniversary!!!
emoticon down 150 lbs!!! How long did it take with strict keto?

I love to go for long walks outside and take in all the nature but when the weather is to bad I walk with a DVD by Leslie Sansone. The DVD is ok but I would rather be out and about.

By the way my weight stayed the same but my blood sugar went down more to 174. I just can't believe it. I stopped taking the meds a year ago. Boy, is my Dr. going to be surprised!!!

Again emoticon

Thank you Holly, yes I'm so happy about my blood sugar drop, it was unbelievable when I saw it. That did sound like I was taking a 3.4 pound loss for granite. Believe me I know how precious .5 or 1 pound loss is. I have been stuck like everyone else. I may be up 3.5 pounds tomorrow. I'm really more excited about the blood sugar drop.

Dawn, what you have already done is amazing and are still doing is fantasktic. I know how hard you've worked and the dillagens you must have. But, is't it wonderful that we have found what works for us.

Holly and Dawn, I know for a fact that Low Carb works because I lost 50 pounds in 1996/97 on Atkins. So now with all the greens that (I don't remember eating a lot of back then) we can have and the add knowledge of the Intermittent Fasting we can go to town using all of our bag of tricks.

Do y'all like to take long walk? I do when the weather is dry!

((Hugs)) Bobbie

Welcome Bobbie Ann. Don't give up. Sometimes the weight loss is fast. Sometimes it's slow. Just like any weight loss plan, there are plateaus. Don't get discouraged. I have been doing this since July 23, 2018. I have lost over 100 pounds. I was stuck on a plateau and now have lost 7 pounds in 7 weeks. Just keep on doing the next right thing. Both James & Holly are awesome team leaders and a wealth of information for all of us. Don't be afraid to ask questions or share concerns. They have helped me so very much.

Hi y'all,

I'm new here so I don't know any of you but that's ok, I'm not shy.
I like a small team so we can get to know each other. emoticon

It's so exciting to already see good changes after only 2 days of No Sugar. First a drop in weight (only 3.4 pounds but I"ll take it.), then a drastic drop in my Blood Sugar (it went from a 250 range down to 185) I can't wait til it gets down to normal around 90. I haven't been on diabetic med's for over a year so it is exciting to know I CAN CONTROL my Blood Sugar. emoticon Do you know how BIG that is???

I am having a struggle this week. I was out of the pool of for over a week. It about drove me crazy. I have been back to work for 2 days now. I worked out 4.5 hours in the pool yesterday and 5.5 hours in the pool today. I just have to share that I am feeling REALLY hungry! I know that I should not be hungry. I am eating right at my caloric range (closer to the top) and my macros seem right. IS IT REALLY TRUE that if I stay with my macros, I can eat MORE or higher calories without having to freak out? I don't think that it's emotions or stress. I am happy to be back in the pool. I just really HUNGRY. Suggestions? In the meantime, I am drinking lots of water & tea. Thanks for being here for me.

Dawn, great going! Wow, what a journey. I'm glad you have conviction to stick with your plan, and basically get a little younger every week.

Of course I don't mean younger in a chronological sense. Normally as people age they get less physically capable of doing things, but you are getting more capable, so in that sense "younger".

When you get to 199 pounds (I picked that because its no longer in the 200 range), you may not need the cane anymore either.

The 23rd is the day that I started Keto. It is also my brother's birthday.

I am very happy with my success. I feel better at 60 than I did at 40. I feel lighter & healthier. When I first joined SparkPeople (at 475) I was in a wheelchair. I used a walker for years after leaving the wheel chair behind. In May, I put the walker aside & began using my cane only. I am feeling so much better. I am learning to accept things as they come. I feel GREAT. Thank you for all the support that You and Holly (and the rest of the team) give me.

My "numbers" on Keto are as follows. You may want to keep in mind that I'm a physicist, though I don't feel like one, my wife insists that I still am one even if I've drifted far from physics.

Anyway, on the numbers... We don't need carbs at all, that is the gasoline of body fuels, burn it for energy, but nothing else. Go as low as you like on this.

We need essential fats, and the minimum on that is about 65 grams a day. We need protein and the minimum is about 40 grams a day.

We need calories, and eating the minimum fat and protein isn't enough, so something needs to go up. It could be carbs, but that has an insulin reaction, excess gets stored as body fat, its not a flexible fuel, you can only burn it. Upping protein is possible, but there is a chance that excess protein can be turned into glucose (see gluconeogenesis). Also a possibility that excess protein is hard on the kidneys, though I'm not so sure of this.

To me the most natural one to increase is dietary fat. You need essential fats anyway, and it seems the most natural choice. You can most easily switch from burning dietary fat to body fat (back and forth) with the least changes in body chemistry to make that happen.

How many calories a day? I'd say 1800 minimum for just about anyone, and that would be when wanting to loose weight.

Dawn,
you have no reason to be hung up on anything. You are doing incredibly well. I can easily find 20 other people who'd say so too!

I've been watching (as you know), your last 4 weeks are down 2, 2, 3, and now 2 pounds. Down nine pounds in under a month, and consistently down week after week.

You may have a wish of loosing 3 pounds a week (or more) consistently, but I don't see that for anyone. In other words, you are loosing as fast as anyone can loose long term. Are you feeling healthier, lighter ..., are you starting to think you need new clothes, but don't want to buy them because they'll be too big in a few months?

P.S. What is special about the 23-rd?

Good Morning, Happy Friday! I Hope everyone had a nice 4th.

Two days of upping my fat and lowering carbs and protein! I feel pretty good, except sleep is an issue and has been for awhile. Trying to get that under control!

Will spend the weekend preparing for my brother and sister in law who are coming to visit my mom. My mom is 92 and lives in assisted living, but has suffered from a few mild strokes and heart issues. She is currently in Hospice and declining over the days. Not sure if she will make it through the summer, but then again 3 years ago I didn't think she would have made it to her 90th birthday, which she did. She is confused and unhappy about being here on earth still, and I support her in having those feelings. That is why she is on hospice. Hopefully her day will come and she will finally be in peace with my father, sister and the rest of our family.

Anyway, have a great day! And Keto on!!

I’m so sorry your mom is ill.

Yes I was talking about the CSK calculator.
Be warned..Jacks a great guy he was my first coach. He is ultra strict..and I just can’t live worrying about my food every second. So I read, because he does his homework and can back everything up. But I don’t comment there.
I think in your circumstances you do the best you can. Concentrate on carbs down and fat up..and if you are over on protein no big deal.

I think you were talking about the Common Sense Keto TDEE calculator. It explained on the site about the protein. I will give it a try in the coming weeks, but I am going to have some struggles as my mom is in Hospice and my brother and sister in law are coming in on Monday to stay with me (not keto) and I am heading out in 2 weeks to California for my granddaughter's 3rd birthday. My ability to remain in Keto during this time will be my main goal, but this may actually help (except maybe the protein which I struggle with sometimes). Fat will be no problem hahaha!

Ahhhh! Thank you for the explanations and your recommendations! I appreciate all the effort and yes, the TDEE calculator would be helpful as I am not sure I understand about the protein. I ended up breaking my fast as I was really hungry. I don't really enjoy fasting so, you are giving me good reasons not to...lol!

Anyway Thank you!!

NO you put your current weight not goal weight. protein is figured by yoru goal but not your TDEE. then you adjust that as you lose. i have a good calculator if you want it.

the exercise...i am mandated by my doc to do 2 hours a day. i lift weights 30 mins a day. the rest is walking and/or swimming. i had a knee replacement that, due to a previous surgery, had major complications. the quad tendon..patellar end, peeled off the bone. its never happened before, they had no clue how to fix it called everywhere..ended up screwing it into the tibia, but i was put flat in bed for 8 weeks and told i'd never walk again. i did exactly as i was told, and worked my tail off to be upright again. i list a little to the right, but i can walk. but if i dont keep it moving, it will seize up. so i again do as i'm told..and do the exercise.

Jack is pretty extreme but has scientific backup for everything he says. he is totally against fasting and it was he who figured out that the fasting screwed me up so bad. he feels that it can be detrimental due to lowering metabolism. i think its an individual choice. he said if someone is really really damaged doing a breakfast to breakfast fast up to 2 times a week may be ok..in other words, you eat a big breakfast, then when you get up you eat breakfast. then your normal 3 meals.
again scientific evidence..the "dawn effect" raises your insulin just by your getting up, so it is like your body has already broken the fast. made sense to me.
Many on ketovangelist fast.
i just see, for me, no reason for it. people scream autophagy..but keto in itself does that..no need to fast for it. and i dont like going so long without eating. those are my reasons for NOT.
Ketovangelist does promote it. the one thing i dont do that they suggest.

as far as the rest...i see old ideas, no updates, so misinformation. conflicting statements and ideas. i do get recipes from other places, as well as make my own.

So, I was thinking about it and if I put in my GOAL weight it takes me down to 1400 because I am sedentary.....so I am not sure what the difference is. I see you work out about 120 minutes a day. I can barely get in 30 minutes a few times a week. If I use the weight I am now, that would make me maintain. Can you explain your thinking?

Interesting!!! My TDEE is 1866. I have been reading a lot of the info out there, and a lot of the info agrees with what you are saying. I am 61 and 5'2" I will rethink things. Now I am hungry lol! I have been fasting since 8pm last night. so about 20 hours, I will plan to make it until tomorrow morning to make it a 36 hour fast. Until then, I am going to consider what you are saying! I do go by Net Carb but I often only eat around 20-30 total carbs. I will definitely switch to total in any case.

Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into your response! It is very helpful and definitely giving me something to think about. Which Keto folks do you think have the best info. I have been reading info and checking out their books over the past 6 months and some of the info is very confusing. They all tend to contradict each other sometimes too.

Again thank you!!

That REALLY is amazing Holly. I think that I was so hungry because I was working outside most of the day yesterday. The water and sun combination tired me out faster & I FEEL more hungry. I was actually craving FAT so you are probably correct. I will eat a fat if I am hungry in the future.

THANK YOU!

we all feel like we will gain if we eat the right amount of calories. Most of the reliable experts say you should eat at or close to your TDEE (total Daily energy expenditure)
when you fist start doing this you may gain a little..(one more reason to stay off the scale) but it will turn around once your body realizes you are no longer starving it. My TFEE is 2300 cals. i just cant, most days, eat that much, so i lose slower. when i do force it i lose much faster..but i'm at a point now where if i lose great..if not great..no worries. I'm 61 and 5'8.
very few people should be under 1800 cals...

the thing about ketosis is, just being in ketosis isnt good enough. I know so many people that cant figure out why they arent losing, ask me to take a look at their menus..then i see tons of veg and they are eating fruit. because the saw the old info that net carbs is fine..well its not...not if you want the good health and weight loss results. under 20 g total carbs..the doc that came up with the net carb thing (for Atkins) has since recanted, said hes wrong, and that people should be doing total carbs. I agree with him.

then theres the group that claims "fat is a lever". nope. been proven. it IS a goal..you need to eat a minimum amount . most say a minimum orf 120 grams but really it should be more. theres facts, and result data on all the above. and a TON of misinformation/old information out there. Its hard to weed through.

one coach i used at one point did an experiment. He had himself and one of his colleagues do 5000 cals a day..i think for a month. she was at her correct weight or slightly above. he was still a little over. They did strict keto..just upped amounts. She lost amost 5 pounds. remember she was at or within short range of her perfect weight. They did body analysis. I want to say he gained 2 pounds..but when they did the analysis he had lost fat and the 2 pounds was muscle. they have had others do it, also, with the same results. people didnt gain. they lost or stayed the same. 5 thousand cals a day. pretty amazing.

I do a lot of research as well, and thankfully I am a nurse for Johns Hopkins, so I try to find info in their library as well. But I am still new at Keto and still working out a lot of my struggles, like why I am so hungry sometimes and then go over my macros for protein and fat. I eat about 1400 calories a day but maybe I need more? But I feel if I eat more, I gain weight. Such a struggle to figure it all out. I am in ketosis. Check my ketones and sugars on a regular basis. Had a fasting insulin done recently and was 4.4, my A1C was 5.1. Fasting sugars are anywhere from 85-100. My ketones are in the 1.5 range generally. So it goes.....

Dawn..is it possibly you had extra carbs somewhere? they could account for the hunger..its really unusual to be hungry if your carbs are up. if that isnt it..go ahead and eat some fat!! dont get too rigid on the cals..they are a reccomendation..and if you need more have more!!

Jodie i've been keto for 2 3/4 years. down 150 pounds. i teach keto classes at our local adult ed which is run by cooperative extention. i work pretty closely with 3 keto coaches if i run into something i am not educated in.

I do not fast.
Yesterday I went to bed hungry for the first time since going KETO. I am focused on staying within caloric range this month. My top is 2500. I had reached 2442. I drank some hot tea. I played some mah johg. Finally, I just went to bed early (I was exhausted from a long day in the outdoor pool) and slept. I woke up....HUNGRY. I’m already at the pool. Will get to eat when I am finished in about 3.5 hours. In the meantime, i’ll Try not to eat anyone in the pool. LOL

You really can’t go over on fat. Maybe your calories are too low? When I stalled I didn’t budge until both a coach and my research showed that eating at a deficit will eventually stall you.
I have the same problem with fasting. It stalls me. I lost 150 and never fasted but one short period..which is when I stalled. Never again for me. That one is a personal choice...if it works for you great!!!

Hello all! Fasting today, first time in awhile. It never seems as hard when I am done as I think it will be before I start!

Struggling staying within my Macros as of late, usually going over on fat and protein. Carbs are generally not my issue. Weight is fluctuating in the wrong direction. Frustrating.

Hope you all have a good day! emoticon

Well where I live in Canada a toboggan is a wooden thing you slide down snow covered hills on. A sled has runners, but a toboggan doesn't.

Nothing to do with warm head ware.

Oh!! And here I was thinking a trash compactor. I don’t have either. Ancient house.
The rest are common here on the border. Except we say beers for more than one.
Want to know what threw me? My brother in law was here once. He’s from West Virginia. He asked if he. Could borrow a toboggan.
I thought what a strange request. Said sure and went to the garage. Dig around. Found it . Came back said it’s out I’m the driveway.
He looks puzzled but goes out. Comes in says I don’t see it. I look out the window point at it say right there..we both think the other is nuts!!!
He points at my hat and mittens..a toboggan!!!
Good lord..they call a touque a toboggan!!!! That was a new one on me...

NIGHTSKYSTAR,
I've never seen them installed in a single sink, but in half of a double sink. The other side drains like normal, but the side with the garburator has some spinning parts to chop up stuff before going down the drain, like soft leftover food.

Oh my goodness, "garburator" is Canadian English ..., says so on Wikipedia:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garbage
_disposal
_unit

For you Holly, a Garbage disposal unit.

OK lets see what other "Canadian English" expression we can find, eh?

- garburator
- eh?
- Loonie (Canadian dollar coin ... it has a loon on one side)
- Two-nie (Canadian two dollar coin)
- Tuque (winter hat)
- Beer (The plural of beer, like this: "I drank three beer.")

A busy day today for me.

I'm out of protein powder waffles, ... so first things first. Then pickle ball (about 90 minutes of "running" around in the gym), then fix a sink.

The garburator quit. Some not so nice sounds from right after we bought the house. Now its totally dead, not even a buzz when you flick the switch. So I'm removing the beast and just putting in a simple drain (like the other side of the double sink).

Then sorting screws and tools. I have been negligent on keeping that organized.

I don't know what Keto things I'm doing today, other than the waffles, but it will be a Keto day.

Dawn,
yes, there are some surprising things that have more carbs than you think. I never would have thought of oysters as having carbs at all. I would have thought like fish, zero, or so close that its practically unmeasurable.

I know those cheap fake "crab sticks", made from pollock or something, a fish, and crab flavour added, once I read the label, something like like an 85 gram portion has 14 grams of carbs, this is added of course. But it makes about 16% of the weight carbs. No wonder I liked them.

Dawn,
I just looked them up, and yes about 10% of the weight is carbs (well 9.9 is what it said). So you must have eaten about 300 grams of oysters.

All in all, avoiding carbs is indeed a learning experience, and heck 30 grams more than you were planning on, just one day, ... no big deal. North American adult average, ... yup freaking average, is about 300 grams a day. So you are doing very well indeed.

It's the journey, and the path travelled that counts the most.

just looked them up...man..glad i dont like them. no clue why they would be high. maybe its what THEY consume that makes them higher?

just move on..nothing you can do about it now. you are fine...it was an unintentional slip. I've done it, i'm sure we all have. i have taken to looking up carbs on anything new i'm going to have before i eat it just for that reason. some things totally shocked me...one was spaghetti squash..i saw all these keto people eating it saying how good it was..it always tasted sweet to me. then i saw the carbs and knew why!! havent had it since.

I've no clue. I've never eaten oysters. They are not Kosher, according to the Bible.

Anyway I went looking on search engines for why shellfish have such high levels of carbohydrates - the science is kinda beyond me but here's the links:

I do not understand why oysters are high in carbs. Does anyone know why? I thought I would change up my Tuesday lunch out & had steamed oysters. Delicious! When I entered into my tracker later, I almost passed out. 30g carbs. I am trying not to freak out because it made my carbs over for the day.... but help me understand.

Mine are just 2 eggs 2 Oz cream cheese 1/3 tsp baking powder a few drops vanilla and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I have 2 slices bacon. Around 2 carbs for all 6 waffles!

When I make a batch (80 grams protein powder, 2 eggs, 45 grams oil, 45 grams heavy cream, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder), makes about 6 waffles.

I eat 2 for breakfast, so a batch lasts 3 breakfasts.

I made my protein powder waffles, made them with chocolate protein powder, and that gives them a hint of chocolate, ... you can taste it if you are told about it, but you might miss it if not told, its subtle.

They ended up fairly moist, not as dry as the vanilla ones. They were leftovers from yesterday and had cooled in the fridge. I put butter on them, took low carb maple syrup, plastic plates cutlery ... not heaps of them, a taste for about 8 people, about 3 waffles.

After pickle ball I was going to give them samplers. But after pickle ball, nobody stayed in the food area of the YMCA right by a little snack place at the front door.

They all came home with me.

Each waffle has well less than one gram of carbs ... don't panic out of concern for me.

Denise (DAP1313),
feeling better today?

I always feel happier when it is sunny with blue skies. I'm lucky that in my part of Canada its like that in the summer for 2 weeks straight, then it rains for 2 days, and it repeats.

I feel down when the skies are grey, or in the winter when there is only about 6 hours of daylight each day. My wife tells me that my mood shouldn't depend on the weather ... but it does to some degree.
