Never done a 5k before but officially signed up for my local race for life 5k and got my running number today, yay! I'm aiming anywhere between 40-60 minutes so a lot of training to do as it's on June 14th. Also when I've finished that I found the 'virtual' races on spark so I can compete in them once a week/month/3 months if I want to.

Keep your head high or you will eventually walk into a wall

Good luck Julie! The Foam Glow 5k was great, but it was so cold the foam was freezing in our hair. Would've been much better in warmer weather. I finished in 53 minutes, working to finish eventually in 45 minutes.

I just finished my first 1 mile in 20 minutes. I'm trying to build up to do a 5k by July 4th.

Life is short. Enjoy it while you can.

Haha, I LOVE the sound of loads of foam everywhere. You'll have to come back and tell us how it went afterwards emoticon

They really are Jacqueline! They still have a cause that they are donating towards which is great, and since I'm not a serious runner it gives me something to look forward to. Just hoping its not freezing on Saturday when they are throwing all this wet foam on us while running :)

2 years ago I did the Color Me RAD 5k and finished it in 45 minutes. I have the Foam Glow Run this Saturday. I haven't been able to train, so if I can finish in under an hour I'd be happy. Planning to do the Insane Inflatable 5K in October.

Blaziken, that is awful how disappointing for you. They should do it in exactly the same way as the run!

Emmacorrigan - we have a colour run where we live too. It looks loads of fun :-)

I had a bad experience a couple years ago. I set my goal to complete my first 5K walk, Signed up for the walk (my husband ran) But when I got there they hadn't set the walk up like they did the run. They just said come inside and walk around the track. No one could tell me the distance nor did they time it. I was disappointed.

I have found that many walks are like that. Due to back and foot surgery I will never be able to run. (dr's orders)

I would love to a walk that has competitive feel to it and could actually tell that I completed the correct distance.

Unfortunately it blew my momentum out of the water and my progress too.. I am hoping I could get advice and support here.

(sorry I dumped that emoticon )

I did my first one last year! I didn't run the whole way, but my sister, cousin, and niece and I loved it! It was called the color run. Every km their would be a station set up where people would throw this chalk like dust that had bright colors all over you! By the end your shirt and body is covered!
This year my sister and I are doing a less colorful one, and more one that I can try and run the whole thing. Been trying to train for it!

Life is short. Enjoy it while you can.

I've done several 5Ks! They are a lot of fun, just long enough to be challenging but short enough to be completely attainable! It's been 2.5 years since my last one though and I'm considerably heavier now. I'm working my way back to a half marathon I registered for that is just under six months away though! I am planning on doing 2-3 5Ks and a 10K before, incorporated in to my training!

Time2loseisnow - I am exactly the same as you. I would love to try one but could not put myself in a large crowd like that

I like the idea of a virtual one, thanks for the link Kendrastic

I have a good tool that might help you! Spark People has a virtual 5K that you do on your own, but you get the online support of others. www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/virtual-

I haven't! I have been thinking about it though!! I don't know how I would feel about being in a large crowd though. I'm working on my social anxiety. This is something I may do down the road, as I'm feeling more confident in myself!!

Have you walked or ran in a 5k race?

Did you finish? Have you done it again? Would you do it again?
